There is a lot of issues discussed in this article about the issue of patriarchy in church. Women, clearly, had limited rights in the early Christian period because the fathers were mainly patriarchal and sometimes misogynistic. To add on, that influenced the males to have power over their women and lack of equality in their marriages. It was necessary for women to be virgins before their husbands would be willing to value them. Lots of females stay out of the catholic church because of the patriarchal power that men have. Men can be priest, pope, bishop, and cardinals. This cause women to stay silent in their thoughts rather than to speak on their thoughts. It explained how nuns’ life are also being limited to their rights. Nuns had to have permission for almost everything from their local bishop. The article also mentioned that they were nervous of speaking out of turn or taking any initiative. Women were being affected by their religion because they didn’t want to disobey the fathers.
