speedy deletion[edit]

Hi, just a note--Head pope, while certainly deletable, was not a valid candidate for speedy deletion, especially since it was already listed on vfd. Generally, it's best to let the vfd nomination play out. Thanks, Meelar (talk) 20:28, Apr 8, 2005 (UTC)

Dang, and I just changed the tag. I should have stayed with my instincts, I'm still pretty new. Should I change it back?Rx StrangeLove 20:33, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Northeast Minneapolis[edit]

About those brackets: no problem! Good article, too. It's always nice browsing the Newpages section, isn't it?

The Nail[edit]

Hello, Rx StrangeLove. I'm very sorry that I didn't see your note. If I had then I wouldn't have simply deleted your article. Your article on The Nails (of whom I know - I've always liked "88 Lines about 44 Women") was legitimately tagged as a speedy because it was a "substub".

However, because you contacted me about it, I undeleted it and tagged it as a substub: for the time being it is no longer up for deletion. You'll have to add some information to the article soon, however, or somebody else may come along and un-undo what I undid.

Let me know if you have any other questions or problems. – ClockworkSoul 01:14, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Welcome[edit]

I might be a bit late on this one, but I think you are a promising editor, so I want to personally welcome you instead of relying on a template message. In case you have questions, I can answer a few. Not all, but some at least. ;) Nice to have you on WP:WSS, also. It's a project that really grows on you with time. Cheers! --Sn0wflake 16:42, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Nice![edit]

Just thought i'd add a message to say i'm extremely impressed that you managed to revert some vandalism to Cheese (which is a constant target) within one minute! Well done sir!

Dennis Miller[edit]

Things must be going a little slow on the honeymoon, eh? I like your logon name. Anyway, good luck with the nut that keeps messing with the Dennis Miller article. He must check it 100 times a day in order to keep putting back his inane comments. I pointed it out to User:Joy Stovall, who's an admin, and he admits there's not much to do about it except put him on the annoyance list. Wahkeenah 2 July 2005 21:53 (UTC)

RC Patrol[edit]

I'm impressed. You are really fast at reverting vandalism. I keep getting the "rollback failed" message because you got there first. Joyous (talk) July 8, 2005 23:41 (UTC)

aircraft specs[edit]

I see you've been adding specifications to several articles that were lacking them - thanks for your contribution. You might want to look into the WikiProject:Aircraft group for some more standardized specifications layouts, as well as other information on the Wikipedia's ongoing aerospace projects.

One thing we've been trying to do is limit specifications to the one most-produced model. This cuts down on excess information, and since our project standard is to use a non-table text format for specifications (due to standards, mobile devices, and some issues with inline images and tables within the article), it can sometimes be difficult to get all the variants. Even with the old sidebar it was hard, and as some aircraft have dozens of variants it's impossible to cover them all.

Anyway, I'm glad you've jumped on board, and all of us in the project are happy to help. If you've got any questions hop on the talk page or ask any of the active members. -eric 04:09, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Masturbation[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you restored some pretty POV material from the Masturbation article. I was wondering if you meant to do that or if you felt the edits are legits. I was on RC patrol and I saw that edit come through and it looked like blanking vandalism at first glance but it seemed to me that someone was taking out some pretty questionable material. I just wanted to let you know because I'm going to take it back out. If you feel it belongs there drop me a note...Thanks! Rx StrangeLove 03:43, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw that you put a CSD tag on Yosui Inoue, I removed it for now...a quick search seemed to indicate that he's fairly notable in Japan so I thought I'd add some content so we can save it. If not I'll AfD it....but I like to save legitimate subjects if I can. Thanks! Rx StrangeLove 17:18, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy! If it can be expanded, that would be great, My speedy delete nomination was just following WP:CSD section 1.3 article 1, which cites "Very short articles providing little or no context (e.g., "He is a funny man that has created Factory and the Hacienda. And, by the way, his wife is great."). Limited content is not in itself a reason to delete if there is enough context to allow expansion.". If you are willing to expand it, then I agree with your decision to remove the SD. If that is not your intention, please consider the item from CSD I listed above and use your best judgement. Best regards, CHAIRBOY 17:25, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, as it was it's a legit CSD, now as I'm looking I think I'll be able to expand it. I hope you didn't take this as a criticism as none was meant! Like I said, I enjoy saving articles from the bin (assuming of course that they belong in the first place!). Cheers! Rx StrangeLove 17:49, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you![edit]

Thanks for the barnstar. You do a great job, too. I'm always getting the "rollback failed" message, with your name attached. Joyous (talk) 01:57, September 4, 2005 (UTC)

notenglish[edit]

Not being written in english is actually (surprisingly enough) not a criterion for speedy deletion. Tag those articles with {{notenglish}} instead and they'll get cleaned up in due course. Thanks for helping out on RC patrol! --fvw* 00:26, September 5, 2005 (UTC)

  • Good Lord you're right! I would have bet the house on it...I must have scanned article #2 and not read further. And one of my pet peeves is bending the rules on CSD. I'll laugh about it after my face stops turing red :) Rx StrangeLove 00:39, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Popups tool[edit]

Congratulations on being made an admin! I thought you might like to know of a javascript tool that may help in your editing by giving easy access to many admin features. It's described at Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. The quick version of the installation procedure for admins is to paste the following into User:RxS/Archive01/monobook.js:

// [[User:Lupin/popups.js]] - please include this line

document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
             + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

popupShortcutKeys=true; // optional: enable keyboard shortcuts
popupAdminLinks=true; // optional: enable admin links

There are more options which you can fiddle with listed at Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups. Give it a try and let me know if you find any glitches or have suggestions for improvements! Lupin|talk|popups 12:12, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Beech King Air[edit]

Hi. I noticed you removed the BE10 picture. I put up a new one that I took and is PD. For some reason though I'm not getting the little blurb under the picture. Any idea why? Is it a function of the box that it's in? Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather 15:13, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Do you mean the caption under the picture in the article? That's a function of the formatting when you insert the photo. For instance (without the brackets):

image:Brugge_Canel.jpg|300px|thumb|right| A pretty canal scene in Brugge taken on my Honeymoon 2005

The text about the canal scene goes to the right of the | character. You can see it used on my userpage. Let me know if this answers your question! Sorry about the hassle but there's a project that's clearing out unsourced images. Rx StrangeLove 23:53, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

  • I was missing out the word "thumb". No hassle as I didn't load up the original picture. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather 04:40, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't this have been removed from the articles it was on before being deleted? I don't recall what this image looked like, but I imagine it was probably a PD NASA photo.--Pharos 03:04, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes they should, I'm going around doing just that. I'll go back and check that one though if I missed it. As far as PD goes it might be but there's no indication of that status. Thanks for checking though! Rx StrangeLove 03:08, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • Question, I took that photo off of the two pages it appeared in before deletion, did you see another appearance? If so I'd like to get of off there also...thanks! Rx StrangeLove 03:17, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, no, I meant that it might be a good idea to leave an interval between removing images from articles and deleting them, so that anyone with an eye on the article would be alerted and could potentially supply a reference of status. In this instance, though, it's not a big deal, because it's from a NASA source relatively easy to track down.--Pharos 03:26, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I recently noticed that you deleted the map from the Sendai, Miyagi article. I get why you did it and I was sure it was bound to happen sooner or later, but do you think you might know under what copyright maps such as that would fall under. The original creator of the maps (I did recoloring) doesn't put any copyright tags on his/her images on the ja.wikipedia, failed to explain, in detail, what he wanted for in terms of copyrights, and has neglected to answer the question about them I posted on his/her talk page. If you don't know, that's perfectly fine; I've just had a lot of trouble searching for concrete answers. Thanks!

AfD relistings[edit]

Hey there. AfD relistings are a good idea when there's little to no debate. However, can I just remind to you remove the subpage from its original day, after you've added it to the new day? Otherwise, we can't close off the original day properly and it looks like (at first glance) that it has already been relisted. Thanks. -Splashtalk 17:30, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you rewrite the article on Hayle, claiming it was a copyvio? I can't find any notice in the page's history of which copyrighted page you feel it was a violation of. It was not, as it happens. I used some information from a source, but it was original work. You replaced my article, which was a decent stub, with a poorly written page that omitted the information I had included. Why? Grace Note 01:50, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I had a look back through your contribs to try to find what the copyvio was supposed to be. I'm afraid Grutness must have had an off-day. Not only have I never seen that webpage but it bears no resemblance at all to my article. It mentions some of the same things, naturally, because it's on the same subject. But it's hard to imagine that someone could think they were the same piece.

To be a copyright violation, an article has to actually be a lift from another source. Even if I paraphrased the entire original article, which I did not, it would not be a violation of copyright. Worst case, you could claim I plagiarised it if I did not source it. But, as I say, I did not. The two bear absolutely no resemblance. How could they? I have not until now read the webpage in question. I doubt it even existed when I wrote the article (the site it's on seems to be just slightly older than the article and I doubt it sprang fully formed from the author's head, do you?). Now that I have, I'm certainly going to include some of the stuff from it!

Apart from anything else, I'm an editor in good faith. You replaced an article I had worked on, claiming it was a copyright violation. You did not alert me to your concerns, either at my old username or at the one I now use (the old page links to the new). If you think this is an acceptable way to approach an issue where you are making a serious accusation of malfeasance against another editor, think again. Grace Note 02:14, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks for the explanation. I'm not an admin so I can only see the history that's there, which shows my article being replaced as a copyvio. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. As it happens, I do assume good faith, but I think that were you to put yourself in my shoes, you'd come to the same conclusion. Anyway, no harm done. Thanks again for explaining. -- Grace Note

why was this deleted with only three people having had the chance to look at it and discuss? Did you read the article, and if so, what exactly was wrong with it? Regarding the complaints of chairboy, dottoreso, et al...The research was not original, the term has been in use since 1996 (see my links to academic footnotes) and it was definitely not as commercial as many of the other articles in this encyclopedia (i.e. windows vista).

--Maestro44 04:24, 11 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I got your note about this AFD, as the closing admin, I'm not given a lot of latitude when closing them. Sometimes when there's a lack of participation in an AFD we can relist them but there's such a backlog that I generally don't unless there's very limited (read:none or one "voter"). Having said that, I have no problem relisting but if we relisted all AFDs that had this level of discussion we'd never get through them. I am sorry, we do the best we can. Hey Rx. To repeat myself, how does one do a speedy or a vote for deletion thing? Also, how do I get a table of contents on my talk page? Thanks, ZPMMaker 07:53, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, we saw it at the same time and had the same instincts, and after a couple edit conflicts I think what happened is that, in adding what I'd written during the conflict, I accidentally replaced your perfectly good stub tag with a malformed stub tag, and then had to go back and fix it. So, it was all my fault, but it worked out. Thanks for your message. Chick Bowen 04:09, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

jucifer 22:29, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message and for helping defend this article. I was hoping that heads would have cooled while it was protected, but apparently someone's taking this call for attack rather seriously. Personally I'm strongly opposed to page protection of an article except in the direst circumstances, but if that's what it takes to keep the page stable then so be it. It's better that than allowing Brandt and his fellow trolls to run wild. Perhaps if we give the article another 12-24 hours and try unprotecting again? Perhaps the vandals will eventually realize that resistance is in fact futile ;). Again, thanks. Canderson7 23:56, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see from the link, he's put together a list of the Wikipedia users that he sees as his enemies, and is trying to collect as much personal information as he can about each of them. Just thought I should let you know. Canderson7 12:33, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Kim Birtch[edit]

I rolled back your edits to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kim Birtch, as you appeared to have closed an AfD debate I had already closed, with the same result. JIP | Talk 18:49, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Stewielocks[edit]

I voted to delete the hoax article Stewielocks and the Three Griffins, and you took care of the matter, but now it's back. What course of action should be taken now? Robert Happelberg 21:41, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
