Working with Images[edit]

Howdy Ruby K,

Welcome. About images in Wikipedia:

Images at the top of articles go to the right. This is to do some viewers resolution settings and equipment that they may be using to view Wikipedia. If you are real ambitious try viewing a page (s) with a lot of images in it with different resolution and you’ll see what I mean.

When using vertical-landscape images, try putting them to the left, and then use the:

<br style="clear:both;">

command to force the text to drop below the image.

See Dunedin, and Wellington for a good use of landscape photos.

Check out the way I reformatted the Machu Picchu article after your images additions. When putting in mulitiple images we try to go, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, etc. all the way down the page. Machu Picchu is that way now.

If you have enough text in an article, put the second image below the first. Let say you have one on the right, then a second on the left, put the second photo half-way to the end of the main article text, like in Mount Katahdin.

Your placement in Colgan Air was good. I added you SAAB 340B photo to the Saab article. Maybe you can update the Saab 340 article and add what the modifications are for the "B" model?

Also, when you do a caption, like the one in Double Eagle II, add the word "monument". This is not the real balloon, and we don’t want anyone thinking that it is.

We try and never use "PA", but always "Pennsylvania" when putting in the name of states. You have viewers here from around the world, who have NO idea what PA means, PUBLIC ADDRESS? Also on your Johnstown image, in the caption, can you tell us (the viewer) which direction we are looking. Like: "Johnstown, Pennsylvania from the northeast looking southwest", or some such.

Machu Picchu[edit]

Your gorgeous panorama has been nominated for Featured picture status, but unfortunately, there are some severe stitching artifacts in it. Hi Janke, Thank you very much for nominating my photograph. My skill with panoramics has come a long way since I made this one last fall. Unfortunately, I do not have the originals on my computer right now; they are on back-up disks at my other house. I should be able to retrieve them this weekend and either restitch them or upload the individuals. Is there a deadline? --Rubyk 17:18, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no deadline per se, but the voting period lasts approximately 14 days. I think the majority of voters would support this image if the stitching was fixed, however, as the featured picture candidate moves further towards the bottom of the list, it tends to attract less votes, so many potential supporters may not see the improved image. A copy of the original images would be ideal if you are prepared to provide them. I have had a look at some other recent panoramas and I have still noticed occasionally stitching faults. I believe it is more likely to be a problem with the software you use rather than your skills, however. I use a panorama stiching software package called PTGui, which does an excellent job. I'd like the opportunity to use it if possible but this is completely up to you. Just let us know! Diliff | (Talk) (Contribs) 13:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Mackworth Island Aerial.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mackworth Island Aerial.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image.
