Your recent edits[edit]

Hi. I saw that you've recently edited several film articles. I wanted to explain why I reverted some of your edits. First, {{infobox film}} says that the infobox should contain only the information relevant to the theatrical release. This means that we only list the runtime of the theatrical cut, not various extended versions. This is to keep the infobox from getting cluttered with too much trivial information. Second, when we write an opening sentence in the lead, we define the film's year of release by the earliest public showing. Because films sometimes premiere at a festival, this means the year of release may be different than when it received wide distribution. For example, a film that premieres at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004 and is theatrically released in the United States in 2005 would be labeled a 2004 film. You can see some more at our guideline for writing film articles. I know many of Wikipedia's guidelines may seem counterintuitive at first, but I think they make sense once you understand why we do things a certain way.
