Hello, Rostodo:

I just read your comment on the history of "gospel" songs, and revised the article. Check it and see if you think it is good. Richard E. Davies (talk) 02:11, 27 June 2009 (UTC)Richard E. Davies[reply]

 Richard, Thanks - your change is a welcomed improvement. Found titles using "Gospel Songs" (or Hymns) were actually
published first in England after P. Phillips and others had introduced the genre. Bliss likely picked it up from Moody's
team after their early UK visits. E.S. Lorenz provides a great summary of the history in his Church Music (p. 342)
which is available on line at: http://www.archive.org/details/MN41689ucmf_1. Rostdo (talk) 16:44, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

+++++

Of course, the genre was being developed throughout the 19th Century, but it never got a "name" until the 1870s. The problem is that there are a lot of people, including some who had earlier contributed to the "Gospel music" wikipedia article, who presume that "gospel music" is whatever they buy today in the store or hear at church. The confusion of terms often causes us to talk past one another.

Thanks for your scholarship. Richard E. Davies (talk) 15:16, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Richard E. Davies[reply]
