I wasn't watching my talk page on this one. But since it is the lead image on Great Basin National Park webpage [1] for many years (and it was licensed as PD-NPS) and shows up twice in a Tineye search, I don't really think due diligence was done before nominating and deleting this. Sault Ste. Marie

So what is WP to do then? True, the place was not Michigan at the time that La Salle sent his men there. But the place where he did send his men eventually became the place that is referenced by the Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, article. The link you set (sending readers to the disambiguation page) does not resolve your concern because all of the articles listed on the disambiguation page are about places or entities that also did not exist at the time, so the topic's ambiguity is not resolved by the disambig. So, does WP need a Colonial Sault Ste. Marie or Sault Ste. Marie (French Mission) article to reference to the place that was not yet Michigan?

On the other hand, the article does (accurately) say "they went on to what is now known as" SSM, Michigan. RedJ 17 (talk) 01:02, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

No, the line wasn't set until 1817 according to the cities' articles. And both sides are equally Sault Ste. Marie (the place he sent his men to was not now the Michigan one - it was just Sault Ste. Marie -both sides of the river, one community, two countries now). Not every link to a disambiguation page is bad. Note the comment on the talk page there. You indicated that you wanted it deleted here: Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities#Letter Zyu. It was already tagged for deletion by someone else, as nonsense, which I believe you have admitted yourself? You may be referring to the {{hang on}}. I have restored a copy of your text to your sandbox. I still highly recommend you get help with this article through a process like Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Sorry about that, I'm using an automated program and have no idea what article you're speaking of. Sorry that I missed seeing the {{under construction}} template. If you don't want any edits at all made while you're creating an article, you may want to consider adding the {{in use}} template. G12 of India-Paraguay relations

Sorry but I disagree with your denial of the G12 deletion. There's numerous direct copies and the structure's even the same (the elements are in the same order). In my opinion this is a blatant and obvious copyvio as changing a few words does not remove the copyright problem. I have asked one of wikipedia copyright expert's for a second opinion here. I'm aware of that - I'm pretty active in copyright - but I don't think it reaches that level of complexity as there's only one main contributor and no chance of the text being released. Yours is the first G12 I've had declined in quite a way hence the request for a second opinion. I'm not necessarily expecting it to be deleted immediately but it would be nice to know if it was down to a difference in admin opinion rather than anything more fundamental - especially as I'd hope to be running for adminship reasonably soon myself. Speedy deletion is designed for undisputable actions. Painfully obvious cases, blatant copying. In that article, I see one properly attributed quote, a few reworded lines, a couple instances of direct copying of non-copyrightable simple expressions. Not a clear case at all. MSU Interview

Dear Rmhermen,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.


So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. List of areas in the United States National Park System

Tis a silly argument we're having with the IP over at List of areas in the United States National Park System...the IP is right about the full official name which is Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreation Area...but the Recreation Area bit was semi-officially dropped long ago and even the signs, brochures and related material omit these two words. I did some research on the matter and found that there are apparently some anxious battles between off-road vehicle owners/interest groups and conservationists regarding access...but where the truth is and isn't over the entire matter seems pretty difficult to get adequate info on, even from supposedly reliable news sources...it hasn't appeared in detail on a national level. I left a note for the IP and since the NPS doesn't have any designation of Seashore/Recreation Area and this seashore isn't an actual recreation area (per designation such as in Lake Mead National Recreation Area) and the NPS seems to call it by its original name, there isn't much more that we can do except to follow the preponderance of evidence. I updated Cape Hatteras National Seashore with a reference and some cleanup...maybe that will suffice.--MONGO 03:19, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Camp Dearborn and photos

I do not think being mean and saying learning about copy rights is difficult. I do not know what is so difficult about my family taking photos and wanting to donate them. All the photos of Joseph M. Ford I have uploaded were taken by family members not a professional. The Lake photos might have been taken by a professional so I am okay with you deleting them. As for deleting the content I was unaware that siting word for word and referencing it was forbidden on Wiki. I will use my own words in the future. Also, Why did you delete the content regarding Joseph M. Ford on the page and the new format? The page looked a lot better the way I had it formatted. Page Deletions

For what ever reason you are very possessive of YOUR Camp Dearborn page. I feel sorry for people like you. I started a new page because I felt it could be done a better way and I was tired of fighting with you. You should learn to work better with others. Instead of running around critiquing and deleting pages you should be working with others and contributing. Plus your references are videos and you have no real references to any of your pages. I have all original news articles,books and photos from that time period in Dearborn. It is a shame that you want to keep pages that are not factual and based on one video. You listed it as dependent on a deleted page but Seattle Mariners minor league players has not been deleted. It would probably have to go through Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion but since Kevin Rivers is mentioned on the page targeted by the redirect, I personally wouldn't support a deletion through that process either. Re: Princess Pauline pages

Thank you for the response. I apologize if the following is confusing, but I will try to lay out my intentions simply:

I probably went about all this incorrectly, for which I apologize. The "non-Princess" was born a Princess of Württemberg, and thus I think she fits on the dab page (better than any other dab page). I should add that including royal titles in article titles is the norm (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (royalty and nobility)#Other royals).

If possible, I would like you or another editor to delete the re-direct page Princess Pauline of Württemberg so that I can make it a dab page (rather than do an improper copy and paste move). Dunmore War

Rmhermen Thanks for finding all of the member roles for the Dunmore War. I am looking for Peter Hull and Peter Zickafoose. They served under a commander named Wilson who was killed at Point Pleasant. They were Roll #64 for Augusta County in West Virginia. They were listed as being paid in the Dunmore War in 1774 and not the American Revolution in 1775. We are trying to find them to verify information for acceptance in the DAR. Any other help you can give would be greatly appreciated.Moseleysr (talk) 02:38, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Paige Clark

Could you reconsider your speedy deletion of Paige Clark for A7? The article made a claim of notability (named 2012 International Junior Miss Maryland) and a claim of notability should be sufficient to defeat a speedy deletion nomination. Well, you didn't nominate it for AfD while two people did nominate it for Speedy. Not every claim is a claim of notability (or any statement would satisfy the criteria). I don't really think that deletion review is based on whether it will survive an AfD, only if a CSD was appropriate. I also don't have any particular interest in the specific article, only the process, and it was my understanding that any claim of notability is enough to defeat a CSD. If the claim is a claim of notability, it was also my understanding that AfD was the proper venue rather than CSD. Anyway, if you think I should go to deletion review with it, that's what I'll do - I do appreciate you taking the time to respond and the explanation that you gave me. You could take an article which would never survive AfD to deletion review, but it would be very unlikely to pass. And then would be deleted at AfD - so what would be the point? The article would still not exist. The process is only to support building the encyclopedia, not to check all boxes, jump all hoops. (As an aside, I, personally, would not have speedy it if it had been an active AfD - although other admins might have.) Rmhermen (talk) 03:18, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
I'm sorry, per your earlier advice I was submitting the article for review and did not see your last comment until I came back to let you know. A quick check of Google had already found several refs from different locations, so there is a possibility that the article, once expanded, could survive an AfD, although I don't believe that is the standard for review. Follow up: The article was speedy restored by JClemens, who thought, and I agreed, that the standard for passing speedy A7 is only an indication of notability and nothing more. My own practice if I accidentally delete something for which any reasonable good faith claim can be made, is that if asked, I restore it. Older version of our article have a less muddled plot description: He did not commit any crimes in the garage because he was working under orders, then defending himself then framed for crimes. Shooting the marshall may have been a crime but the government could not prosecute him without exposing itself and it would be hard to find a jury to convict him when the government had already framed him and tried to kill him. It served as a POW and diplomatic repatriation/exchange ship sailing under Red Cross non-combatant protocols - we don't currently have any categories that cover that class. And I've had the same users for months who always argue with me and they look at the user not the content. Numbers on Death Row in States

The question is: Are the numbers I use correct and up to date? The answer to this is yes. Your assertion that the numbers are updated from time to time by use of other sources carries very little weight and or relevance for a numbers of reasons. Not the least of which is The Anti-Capital Punishment bias of Wikipedia. The amount of disinformation, propaganda, lies, half truths and blatant intellectual dishonesty is staggering. In future please take care to not correct others. When your sources are so completely laughable.

I haven't edited the numbers recently. They come from a given source on a given date and are WP:Verifiable. If you do WP:Original research and subtract the executed from death row when they are executed, you no longer have a verifiably true number and probably an incorrect one if you haven't also added new death sentences, exonerations, re-sentencings, commutations, deaths on death row, etc. If you have an alternate more up-to-date WP:Reliable source (perhaps from the DOJ or state prisons departments), we can work that into the table.
