Thanks Spebi! I couldn't have done it without you! Actually, you did more than anybody on that one (likewise with the doscog page, more of late) and all I've done is filiagre; just the fluff to try to make the page look nice and accessibly presentable (you might notice the trend that that's the majority of what I do around wikipedia in general). --lincalinca 06:52, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Mine's cooler! Discog time :)  — Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 07:44, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you made each table heading a section title, and then suppressed the table of contents. I believe that generally, such markup is used to add sections to the article itself, rather than to the table, which isn't really intended to be split up (from Manual of Style (Headings)). I've reverted you for now, so the article has a working TOC, but if you disagree, please post on the article's talk page. Thanks! 124.148.73.199 01:06, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

I didn't realise that those two infoboxes depended on those links. However, I'm confused as to what they have to do with the article on DVD region codes Ahh! I see...they link to that region table. My apologies...I didn't get what you were on about the first time. And that was probably me that removed the headings last time - I assumed the intention was to bold the table headings. For example, in HTML, people often use <h1> to <h6> tags, not for headings, but to get a heading style, when really CSS should be used. I assumed the same things had happened here. Sorry!
However, I still don't think having (a) no TOC or (b) having a TOC with an entry for each region and (c) having ugly [edit] links everywhere is optimal. Instead, why don't we use a span class like it says here and here to get an anchor for the infobox links without actually making them HTML *headings*? To show what I mean, I've created a demo for linking to Region 4 (as an example) at User talk:124.148.73.199/Temp to show how such a thing can work. Let me know what you think. 124.148.73.199 03:44, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Works for me. Using span, it's just as easy to take out the "edit" tags, but nevertheless, as I'm not really a resident editor of the region page (and you appear to be). I'm happy to go with your way of anchoring each line in the table. I didn't realise exactly what your resistance was, but I do get what you mean: it is pretty ugly with so many [edit] tags bandied about. Would youlike to do the change, or would you like me to? --lincalinca 03:48, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Never mind, I've done it now. lincalinca 03:56, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Yep, I think it's ready. I can't spot any errors, and any errors that pop up in the FLC, in turn, help the article. I'll nominate it and do all the steps, etc in a few minutes. ACC

Hey, you posted a request for an account at WP:ACC; are you trying to change your username? 'Cause, then, you should go to WP:CHU. Just wondering! Thanks. Love, Neranei (talk) 02:21, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Nah, I don't want to change it. I want to separate my watchlists, because it's easier to distinguish (for me) if my lists are separate. I want one watchlist to be able to see what changes my other one has processed, to include the general adjustments I myself have made (it's more just from a matter of interest). I actually don't want to make any changes at all using the new account and want to continue to use lincalinca as my user name. --lincalinca 02:24, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I see. Thanks for the clarification! Love, Neranei (talk) 02:30, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Was watching this 'cause I came here to ask you why you wanted the account created. You probably know this, but you might wanna put the {{doppleganger|your username}} template on the user page for the other account like my twin here. Accomplishes two things; makes sure you have an edit history on the other account (so no one can usurp it later) and also acknowledges openly that you have another one. Cheers, Into The Fray T/C 02:47, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Cool itf. I've never done this before, obviously, so thanks for the heads up and approving it!! --lincalinca 02:51, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure whether I can be of any help here. I don't have Toolserver access, nor a way to run Perl scripts, but someone who has access to the toolserver may help. Apparently, there is a similar script at http://tools.wikimedia.de/~escaladix/larticles/ , but I can't get it to get any meaningful results. Perhaps you could contact Escaladix, the owner of that tool, and see if he could help? Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 18:11, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Image restoration

I'd be happy to undelete Image:Jarsofclay valleysong.jpg. As an aside, the only contributor, and, author was notified of a missing fair use rationale on 9/28/07, Approximately 11 days ago. CSD I6 states among other things: "Non-free images or media claiming fair use but without a use rationale may be deleted seven days after they are tagged. " and, "The boilerplate copyright tags setting out fair use criteria do not constitute a use rationale.". Therefore, I do not beleive that my deletion was inappropriate. However, I'll undelete it, and, check back on it in a few days. Thanks, for the heads up! SQL(Query Me!) 04:12, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Not a problem at all! I've deleted 100 or more, today, however... So we're clear, you're referring to:

  2. Image:Jarsofclay work.jpg
  3. Image:Jarsofclay waitingfortheworld.jpg
  4. Image:Jarsofclay unforgetfulyou.jpg

  6. Image:Jarsofclay thestone.jpg
  7. Image:Jarsofclay thesingles.jpg
  8. Image:Jarsofclay stringtown.jpg
  9. Image:Jarsofclay stjapan.jpg

I'd be happy to restore them so they can be fixed. SQL(Query Me!) 04:32, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Done, I've pushed the CSD date on all of them back, to today, but, once you add a valid fair-use rationale, please, feel free remove the CSD tags. Thanks, for your help! SQL(Query Me!) 04:49, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I haven't added the AFD twice. I reverted the edit of yours that removed it, as the AFD itself was still open. There is a (proposed guideline) on songs; I recommend you make your case at the AFD itself instead of removing the tag (which would not allow others to comment). Image help?

Hey Linca...since you're somewhat of a wizz with images, I was wondering you if you were any good with resizing and changing resolution? Per this comment here, I could really do with resizing for the following images: [2] [3] [4] (All changed to 800x600 is what I need). If you could do this, it would be so awesome! Thanks, Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 07:28, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm hardly a wizz. Just a graphic designer. LOL. I don't have any proper quality stuff here at work (since i don't work in the industry I'm qualified in, ironically) so I can upload substitues that will suffice as approximates for you. --lincalinca 07:48, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Re: Mama (My Chemical Romance song)

Sorry about the time it has taken to get back to you. As for the page though, the “wikidate” format is by no means the official style (see here: Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers). The “wikidate” is only used in talk pages. As for the removal of WEA/Warner, I only did that because it is the parent company of Reprise Records and the source (in this case Billboard magazine’s Web site) only lists the parent companies on band discography pages. Basically, I removed it because it was redundant. – Zntrip 03:08, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

FL Main page proposal

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 19:25, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Lincalinca,

Thanks fr your contributions to Lambeosaurus. Much appreciated. You've recently added a see also template to the page, but now the tribe name Lambeosaurini shows up in italics (italics are reserved for species and genus-level names). Would it be better to include this as a separate link, or do you think there's a workaround in this template? Firsfron of Ronchester 04:21, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Ah! I didn't know that. This could be a very useful template. If you can work it out so that it works for higher-level taxa (above generic and specific), that's going to be one cool template! I'd use it. :) Firsfron of Ronchester 05:06, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Oops, sorry! I should have made it clearer. If you look on the Lambeosaurus page, in the pink taxobox, there is a list going down. Lambeosaurus belongs to the Kingdom Animalia, the Phylum Chordata, etc. At the bottom, you see it belongs to the Genus Lambeosaurus and there are four species. The species and genus level names appear in italics, but the rest should not. What I meant was, if you can make the template work for all these different levels, (no italics on the higher-up level names, but italics on the bottom two levels), the template will be awesome. If there could be some way to toggle italics on or off (some sort of choice on the wikispecies part of the template), that would rock. Then we could use it to link to all different taxonomic levels on WikiSpecies. Firsfron of Ronchester 05:43, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes! That's perfect! Thank you so much, Lincalinca. Now the only problem concerns the names. Instead of "highspecies", could you name it "HigherLevelTaxon" or something? These higher level taxa aren't species: they're far above the species level. And the other could be "GenusOrSpecies"? These are only suggestions for names, and if you think of something better, so be it. Again, thanks for this great template. Firsfron of Ronchester 06:16, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Hey, as long as it shows up properly, I'll be thrilled. :) You have no idea how much time this will save me (and everyone at WP:DINO). Firsfron of Ronchester 06:40, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I'm dropping by to let you know I've deleted this redirect. I'm not here to be rude, I'm here to be honest. It was nominated at RfD (see discussion), since it was a cross-namespace redirect to the userspace, which is speedily deletable under WP:CSD#R2. I hope you forgive the abruptness, we're just trying to follow guidelines. If you have any questions or you disagree with my decision, feel free to drop me a message. Thanks. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 02:41, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

When did you change your signature? - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 04:13, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't understand why you created the shortcut in the first place. Signatures contain piped links, as you know, and are therefore unneeded. You must understand that, although it was used in various discussions, it was just promulgated by you. Yes, now certain users identify you by that shortcut, but I believe it was not the best idea to begin with.
I believe my CSD action was the correct one. WP:CSD#R2 clearly states that redirects (which include shortcuts) to the Talk:, User: or User talk: namespace from the article space can be speedily deleted. It clarifies that it does not include the Wikipedia shortcuts to pseudo-namespaces, but although your shortcut contained the WP: prefix, it directed to userspace, not to wikipediaspace. In other words, the exception only applies to pseudo-namespaces like Wikipedia, Categories, Templates, and Portals. For the full list of pseudo-namespaces, check out Wikipedia:Shortcut#List of prefixes.
Look, just try and see it from my perspective: I have an established and well-respected user, with many exemplary contributions, but who created a shortcut for his own use. I generally don't have a problem with that specific issue, given that the shortcut isn't in use for a policy and it's not harming anyone. But there is a serious underlining problem here: if you have a shortcut for your username, why can't everybody else? Why can't the other 5,500,000 registered accounts have their own shortcuts? And why can't they have two or three at the same time? If I, as an administrator, would allow this, it would create one of two precedents: (1) that I think shortcuts for usernames is acceptable, or (2) that I showed favoritism towards an exemplary user. I don't support any of these two assertions (even if the user has done great things), and I certainly would not make a decision that would appear that I support them.
I didn't want to be put in this situation when I first deleted the redirect, nor do I want to be in it now. I assumed you were aware of the discussion since nominators are pressured to warn the creators. In any case, I'm sure we can find a compromise to the situation. Perhaps a bot can help us in editing your previous signatures to pipe them to your userpage. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 04:35, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
I have restored the redirect for one week, at which time I'll delete it. I'll try to find a bot to pipe the old links, or I'll just redirect them manually myself. Thank you for responding to my concern. If you find a suitable bot, go ahead and run it and let me know. OK? - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 11:09, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

I've found a user, User:Melsaran, who has a nifty bot at doing this kind of repair. It is currently running to fix all piped links. Stay tuned. :) - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 09:50, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

It's done! All links of WP:RAD have been changed to your username, so no need to worry. Cheers, - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 01:41, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Re:John Mayer discography

Sounds like a plan to me. I look forward to working with you! Another think Linca: a long term goal of mine to make John Mayer a Featured Topic. I would love to get there someday, but one article at a time.--Esprit15d 17:05, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah; I agree — that's the sanest plan of attack. I also am really unfamiliar with discographies, so I looked at about 10 featured ones yesterday, just to get familiar with the standards.--Esprit15d 12:51, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Bot help

I'll be able to run it briefly tonight, but if you have AWB access you might want to do it yourself (my bot uses AWB anyway). To do this:

  1. Load an article list using the "whatlinkshere" function for WP:RAD
  2. Filter the list so that it includes all namespaces except user talk (as this may annoy people otherwise)
  3. Use the NORMAL find and replace to replace all instances of WP:RAD with User:Lincalinca. Don't include wikilinking, just change the link value.

Remember not to run this on talk pages; people will get annoyed by the new messages bar. You could run through talk archives though. When I get the chance to run it tonight, I'll try to run through and clean up if you didn't get the chance to do it all. Or you could just request bot access yourself, see WP:BRFA :P Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 23:42, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I've just had somebody else do it, but thanks! I just was told. The reason I wanted a bot to do it was that it doesn't give the yellow message bar on talk pages, because bot edits are ignored for that. But thanks anyway mate! --lincalinca 23:56, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Once we get 2 more GAs (one album, one single, preferably), move pretty much all of the articles to at least high end start, low end B class, the main powderfinger article, the discography and the divide article and Side Projects article up to mid-high B class (not to mention finally passing this bloody discography FLC), and building up bernie's article to be a GA, we're pretty much a shoe-in to get Powderfinger as a featured group, for certain. I have a friend going to the ARIAs, who's a very accomplished photographer, so he said he'd take some pics and put them on CC. That should easily be able to be a Featured Image, based on the quality of his work so far. I'll let you know more as I go.
I do have a request, though: do you have the Dream Days DVD? If so, can you see if the directorial credentials are noted? We're having trouble sourcing directors for some (particularly, Bless My Soul and These Days) and would like them all for the discog article. If you could look and add them if you have them, that'd be great! Thanks mate!
I commented on the FLC - I couldn't find anything in the DVD :( By the way, List of Powderfinger side projects looks deserving of (another) barnstar, but I won't give you one because GODDAMNIT YOU GOT A COPY OF THE BLUE EP!!!!! Now can you email me snippets, for...ermm....encyclopedic purposes? :) Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 06:57, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

The changes you made to the music video section. I like the use of the infobox discography for consistency but the reason I hadn't used it is because it doesn't have the option for music videos. The peach puff color used indicates there is an error, in this case, the use of "Music videos" as it's not an accepted field. Also, in the infobox artist discography it shows pink for music videos, which is inconsistent with the peach puff. LaraLove 03:53, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Powderfinger portal

Just thought I'd let you know that having a Portal:Powderfinger might not be the best idea of ideas... portals about bands and other narrow-scoped topics often end up unsuccessful, forgotten about, and abandoned in a particularly bad state. I know, there are portals like Portal:AC/DC, for example, which are stable. Perhaps when Powderfinger or Dream Days becomes featured we might consider a featured topic... ~ Sebi 01:46, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Matt_Bronleewe.png

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Matt_Bronleewe.png. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:David_LaBruyere.jpg.

  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Fall at Your Feet.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Fall at Your Feet.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:11, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

It still sucks, big time. I'd like to see a Powderfinger portal if you want to make one - I'm not in the mood right now. Secondly, nice work with Transfusion (EP) - I would get close to GA passing that myself. Finally, good luck in the RfA, and read my comment! Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 07:02, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Nah, Powderfinger's not a broad enough scope, much as I'd love it to be, but Australian Rock music would be. Silverchair, the finger, Thirsty Merc, the house etc etc. It'd be a great portal. No wikiproject behind it though. Thanks for your rfa input!. --lincalinca 09:02, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Nice work on the article, that's exactly what I was hoping someone would do. I had actually stumbled across it while working on paring down Wikipedia:Music encyclopedia topics, a really long (40,000+) list of music topics (mostly from the Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians), and just noticed that it looked suspicious. I see you're active in lots of music topics; if you're ever searching for something to work on, there are a lot of ideas there, not so much in recent popular music, but lots of jazz. I'm trying to get more people working on it to get the size of the list down and make more nearly complete the musical coverage on Wikipedia. Rigadoun (talk) 21:40, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

It has been a couple of weeks since you posted it, but i have put in a bit more info for you see here here. .....Todd#661 09:23, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey dude. Reading your RFA reminded me of my first attempt. I think responding to too many of the opposes was counterproductive, it ended up dragging more opposes into the deal. If it was me, I'd just let the RFA continue to its conclusion, you'll get more (hopefully constructive) feedback and should no real consensus be made, you'll have some ideas for when you hit it the second time (like I did).

The big deal here seems to be the fair use for images "problem". I know it's difficult, I've barely got my head around it myself, but should you need to get in some practice/defence for the future, I've got an idea. I've allowed bot edits to be placed on my Watchlist and as you probably know, Betacommandbot is a frequent visitor to many, requiring them to adjust their fair use rationale etc for images they've uploaded. A lot of people whinge about it, but in general the bot is 100% right. What you could do is, once you've got a grip on the fair use policy, follow Betacommandbot around for a while and correct the images it's tagging - a bit gnomish but after a while it'll show a definitive grasp on what's required for Fair Use rationales etc.

A few weeks spending time at XfD/NPP wouldn't do any harm at all, just to keep the persistent oppose "...lack of XfD experience..." at bay. Finally it's worth emphasising your great contributions in getting articles up to GA and FA. A lot of people are keen are encyclopaedia developers as well as encyclopaedia protectors.

So, in summary, stick it out, chin up, and prepare for the next run should this one not go as planned. Let me know if I can help further. All the best. The Rambling Man 08:09, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey dude. Hmm, editing policy pages. Yuck. Definitely not my thing, never will be. My successful RFA's turning point really came when I made a strong effort to get some FA's under my belt and making a bunch of Wikipedia-space edits (so AFD, CFD etc). Edit count is nonsense, my first RFA failed with me on around 21,000 so it's no indicator either way. Obviously a minimum level of experience is required but beyond a few thousand it's much of a muchness. I would strongly advocate doing some bot chasing and see if you can add good, accurate and correct templates and fair use rationales to those tagged by Betacommandbot, it shouldn't be too hard to find some! Hope the gig went well, once again, give me a shout if I can help further... The Rambling Man 14:28, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

More templates deleted

I noted that you chimed in on the recent "colourized" templates deletion. Just an FYI that I have nominated another bunch if you're interested in reviewing this TfD bunch. SkierRMH 23:33, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Talk:I_Don't_Remember#GA_comments - "but do we have info like the key of the song? Or what time the song is written, ie simple duple time 2/4, common time 4/4, compound duple 6/8, simple triple ¾ or whatever . . . or even what structural form it is like a rondo ABACA. Well, I doubt rock music would be analysed in this way." - Any ideas? Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 08:28, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

More Powderfinger business

"Jon Coghill was the only member to not release any music in this time, instead, he decided to dedicate the time towards starting a family. Haug and Middleton both had children in this time, though released music as well."

Did you add this to the article a way back? If you did, would you be able to track down the source of where you heard this (e.g. newsletter)? It's among the only areas in the article that isn't sourced, and it'd be great if we can get this sourced as soon as possible. Google searching isn't promising, and I'm frustrated over the fact that the Powderfinger website doesn't have an archive listing of their newsletters ;) ~ Sebi 09:42, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I did add it. I read it in a magazine (Drum Media, Impress... one of them, can't remember which though). I'll tryt o get something more rock solid about it. Are you near Civic at all? Maybe you should head up to Landspeed Records. The guys in there were always really helpful to me whenever I had musical trivia, and usually they'd be forthcoming with their resources too (mind you, it's been years since I was in there, not since they were above Valentino's in Garema, and I think it's near the Nightclubs now... anyway...). I'll see if I can remember, but you should always use the tangible resources to build Wikipedia. That's my new philosophy. I just made it up. --lincalinca 09:58, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
