Writing about yourself[edit]

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, instead of writing it yourself. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. I notice that one of the first articles you created was Mark Sheppeard, which appears to be an article about yourself. This is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself has been or will shortly be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, but if you want to use the content from it, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

In general, a person or organization added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. You don't seem to get it. Wikipedia is not a place you can come to promote yourself, your radio show, your ministry or other things associated with you (see WP:NOTPROMOTION and WP:NOTHOSTING). It is a place that has articles about notable subjects, but that notability must be demonstrated for an article to exist. (see Wikipedia:Notability, Wikipedia:Notability (people) and WP:CLERGY) Editors do not get to come along and add links to articles that don't exist and then expect to argue that the articles should exist because of all of the links. Editors also should not add items that are not notable to lists. There are a few sets of rules that govern lists. I won't bore you with them here, but I will say that if all of the entries in a list have articles and you try to add one that doesn't have an article, you can be sure that the item will be deleted. If you persist in self-promotion like this, expect to have this account permanently blocked. Having an account blocked also means you are blocked. You should not expect to edit without using an account or by setting up another account because when you return to the same pattern of editing, you will be discovered and the new accounts will be blocked (see WP:BLOCK EVASION, Wikipedia:Sock puppetry, WP:DUCK) In short, you're digging a hole for yourself, setting a bad example in the process, and if you continue, you could cause further problems for yourself in the future.

An explanation of what's going on[edit]

You have been trying to write about yourself. Wikipedia does not encourage that because we're not here for people to promote themselves (or others) and we discourage anyone from editing with a conflict of interest.

We also require new articles to cite multiple professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources that are not affiliated with the subject but still specifically about it. Your attempted articles did not cite any sources.

We ask users to assume that other users are acting in good faith where possible. We've even created a lot of template messages that were specifically crafted to be non-offensive to enable rapid and polite communication. With the exception of the paragraph starting with "you don't seem to get it," Walter Gorlitz has left many of these on your page because you haven't been paying attention and have just been doing whatever you wanted without concern for whether or not that works with our policies.

Now, if I'm going to block either of you two, it's not going to be him.

Looking over your edit history, I'm seeing plenty of self-promotion and nothing that actually helps the site, such that I could have blocked you already. If your next edit isn't something that helps the site, I'm going to have to conclude that you're not here to build the encyclopedia. There are a variety of ways you can help the site, such as fixing typos or grammar issues, adding new content that cites a professionally published mainstream academic source (we do not accept original research), reverting vandalism... Complaining about Walter (or me) does not qualify as helping. Asking questions is usually fine but in your case you should avoid asking any questions about how to write an article about yourself (again, you need to show that you're here to help, not here to glorify yourself). Do not put new messages in the middle of other messages as it gets confusing.
Like I said, new articles have to cite multiple professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources that are not affiliated with the subject but still specifically about it. Your attempted articles did not cite any sources. If there are no sources, then it is not notable.
