List of people from Kingston upon Hull[edit]

Thanks for adding entries to the List of people from Kingston upon Hull article. When adding to lists such as this you need to provide a reliable source for the person having a relation to the place in question. Thanks. Keith D (talk) 12:30, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Keith. Sorry, i'm a bit of a starter on this, if you could point out in particular what needs amending I will be more than happy to do so. In relation to some of the entries - I have not put a reference, as they use internal links in which details of the persons connection with the city can be found. Radiator4612 (talk) 13:17, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have done a couple, take a look at this edit which adds a reference for James Evans (linguist) association with Hull. You need to add one for each of the entries that you added to the list. If you get into difficulties then let me know and I will see if I can help out. You cannot use a link to another wiki article as a reference as it is not classed as a reliable source. But you may find the reference you need on a linked article. Keith D (talk) 18:17, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to say nice work! I hope you'll put some more work into it, as it's nice to see an article on an event like that (especially one that takes place in the UK!!). I'd suggest searching Google and Google News for some good sources- you never know what you might dig up! Do get in touch if you need a hand. All the best, HJMitchell You rang? 16:42, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Crap towns[edit]

Crap towns is a RS as it's democratically established from a wide user base. You should be proud that Hull has ascended to such well-recognised heights of crapness. The link was internal and if you have concerns about it, edit the relevant page. Andrewjlockley (talk) 01:11, 15 June 2010 (UTC) To aid any committed pedants reading the page, I've placed on-page references to the info which was already properly referenced at the crap towns page. I hope you're now satisfied that Hull's democratically-established crapness is properly recorded in a sufficiently encyclopaedic manner. Andrewjlockley (talk) 01:19, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No it isn't 'democratically established from a wide user base'. Hull was established as 'the winner' after a small amount of votes cast by a very narrow demographic of readers of The Idler magazine's website. As I stated earlier, the 2003 blog entries that led to the book being published are hardly up to date, and the whole basis of your argument that this trivial, outdated, ignorant and bigoted tripe should be included in a Wiki entry intended to record a city with 700 years of history is curious. The day that Wikipedia accepts on-line opinion polls, or information from blogs posited by people with no proven knowledge of the subject they are discussing as encyclopedic is the day it loses any integrity it may have had.

It is opinion, and nothing more.

Discussions on Hull article talk page[edit]

Hi Radiator, I've added a section to the Hull article talk page regarding some issues stemming from all the recent edits dealing with the Larkin 25 festival here; your input is welcome at the discussion.

With regard to the Crap Towns issue with Andrew: I certainly understand the frustration; I had to walk away from the computer for half an hour before entering my response. After seeing his response to that, I'm of the opinion that the best thing we can do is just let him get the last word in and jog on as he offered to, and let us get on with improving the article.
