The article you made on Tenga Rinpoche seems to be copied from another website. What is its copyright status?—Nat Krause(Talk!·What have I done?) 04:10, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, thanks for getting back to me on this. FYI, in the future, it would be preferable if you looked in the copyright situation first. Content on Wikipedia is not usually copied from other websites, and copyright issues are the main reason for that.—Nat Krause(Talk!·What have I done?) 03:06, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.benchen.org/sangye_bio.shtml. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 14:57, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the guide to requesting and formalizing permission to use copyrighted works on Wikipedia. Note that, in addition to copyright requirements, the article must still comply with notability guidelines, advertising prohibition and avoid conflicts of interest. — Coren (talk) 15:38, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

the requirements[edit]

It is not enough that it be licensed for wikipedia!! it must be released under a GFDL license, which permits the further use by anyone in the world for any purpose, even commercial, and modification by anyone in any manner. See WP:Copyright DGG (talk) 00:00, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You said on my talk page:

"I indicated this and the exact web page corresponding to "the guide to requesting and formalizing" to the webmaster of www.benchen.org. He responded for me its ok to use the text of Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche on wikipedia. But as they say on the page, it needs more introduction, because not everybody is so much into it" Therefore, it is clear that the text can be used for wikipedia. However, it needs clarification, and probably simplification. --Rédacteur Tibet 14:32, 28 August 2007 (UTC)"

however, this is not sufficient. It is not enough to give us permission to use it on Wikipedia. it must be licensed according to the GFDL, or it cannot be used here. We cannot make exception to this, because other people are permitted to make further copies of Wikipedia for whatever purpose they choose, and rely on our license GFDL license as the right to do so." A convenient alternative to sending the license to us is for the webmaster to put a GFDL license on the original page. If your webmaster is unable or unwilling to do one of the two, the text must be rewritten completely. Not just paraphrased with different words, but rewritten. If he needs further clarification, he can contact us directly--either me or Coren, either here, on our talk pages, or by email from the link on my or his user page. DGG (talk) 15:26, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All right. I understand. I'll get back to the webmaster and give him your e-mail address. --Rédacteur Tibet 15:42, 28 August 2007 (UT

List of Buddhists[edit]

Hmm, most or all of the names added to "List of Buddhists" used to be included in earlier versions of that article, but they were removed because they were unsourced. I don't think they should be added without sources. I do agree, however, that there are abundant sources for Richard Gere, so he should be included.—Nat Krause(Talk!·What have I done?) 21:44, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reply[edit]

Dear user. See the Talk:2008 unrest in Tibet talk page about this article you wanted to post about GCHQ. The reference you posted [1] at first was inaccurate. More so, the majority of Western media did not report this article, with the exception of this website [2], which is a Pro-Tibetan news agency (this news source violates the NPOV aim).--Sevilledade (talk) 21:01, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Gordon Thomas does. However, the article wasn't carried by the majority of Western Media. No major news outlet mentioned this article. See the discussion on the Talk:2008 unrest in Tibet, there were several sections that discussed this topic.--Sevilledade (talk) 21:26, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tibetan unrest[edit]

I don't think we need the extra cites. By the way, you shouldn't feel threatened. As long as your edits are substantiated, I'll make sure that no one removes them. Thanks for your contributions to the article. Alexwoods (talk) 21:07, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Historians argue that China and Tibet remained two separate units"[edit]

Hi there. Are you sure that sentence (which you added to Amdo) appears in the source cited? (The Story of Tibet: Conversations with the Dalai Lama, by Thomas Laird, Grove Press, 2006, ISBN 0802118275)

I couldn't find it in there. Could you give me a pinpoint (i.e. page) reference?

The same sentence appears in History of Tibet, where it is tagged "Citation needed". If you can give me a pinpoint citation for the sentence, it should also be added to that article. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 12:18, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind. I found the statement dealing with the issue on p. 105, though it doesn't mention anything about "historians"? I will update the sentence and reference. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 12:20, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further on Amdo[edit]

Hi, I appreciate your additions to the History section in Amdo. However, regarding the latest addition: "According to Tibetan Government in Exile, Chogyal Phagpa, the head of the Sakyapa school of Tibetan Buddhism, became the religious instructor of Kublai Khan. In exchange, Chogyal Phagpa received the support of Kublai Khan and assumed political power over the three provinces or cholkas of Tibet. This intereaction called priest-patron (in tibetan chöyön) relation was the first in history of Tibet and was also developped under afterward circonstances." I wanted to query two things.

First, the Amdo article is about the Amdo region, not Tibet, and not the "sovereignty debate". While I can see how the relations with the Mongols can be relevant, since the Mongols first incorporated Amdo into other commandaries/provinces, I don't think we need too much detail on the relations between the Mongols and Tibet - that is dealt with in other articles. Furthermore, it is bad form to use internal reference: i.e. another Wikipedia article cannot be used as a reference. Finally, this statement presents only one point of view when clearly there are several. I don't want the History section of Amdo to turn into a rehash of either History of Tibet or Tibet sovereignty debate.

I propose to cut the added paragraph to ", a relationship which the Tibetan Government-in-Exile now terms a "patron-priest relationship" whereby Tibet exchanged political control for the power of religious instruction of the Khans.[ref]". Please let me know if there are any problems with this proposal. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 05:40, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Salut RT. I am the former Alexwoods. Someone has proposed a move back to the original title of this article. It would be great to have your input. Please chime in. Thanks. Yunfeng (talk) 21:15, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the only source I had was this, which says "Tibetan National Emblem". However, since Tibet isn't a country I figured we could just say Emblem of Tibet (the old name was "Coat of arms of Tibet" which was inaccurate). If you search Dalai Lama letter you can see the same emblem there. I'm not sure the history of it however and when it was first used. Khoikhoi 03:52, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. In the future, unless a matter is particularly sensitive, I'd prefer if you contacted me on my talk page, just so I can keep all of my Wikipedia stuff together. I also procrastinate terribly on my email, which is why I'm only getting back to you now.

Regarding education in Tibet, that's listed on the the main Tibet talk page as a requested section. There's really nothing for you to translate into French right now, sorry.

Regarding the Shugden issue, the thread that you pointed me to seems to have been deleted. Is this still a concern that you want me to look at? --Gimme danger (talk) 03:21, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Constitution of Asia[edit]

The template you have added to the constitution articles for Asian countries have created a nasty red link in each article. Can you fix it, please? Thank you. --Zlerman (talk) 02:17, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 • For your information, I have now created a template Constitutions of Asia, which gives the proper navbox without redlinking the title. I have added this template to the constitution articles for the countries that I work on, and also to your source article, Constitution of Burma. You may wish to insert this template in all the other articles to which you have recently added the red-linked Constitution of template. --Zlerman (talk) 13:12, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Redacteur: Did you follow through with the instructions on the copyright violation template? It does not appear that you have posted the notice on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Copyright_problems#21_November_2008, according to the instructions. Thanks! Emptymountains (talk) 14:09, 21 November 2008 (UTC) Hi, Redacteur. The copyright violation notice that you placed makes absolutely no sense ... the section you marked is a clearly cited quote from a Newsweek article. The reasoning that you gave for this makes even less sense: "Citations from celebrities are accepted on wikipedia, but citation from journalist might be viewed a form of copyvio". What are you doing?? Peaceful5 (talk) 09:41, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Redacteur, if you need certain help in a special case with respect to the Shugden articles, maybe you let me know. I have a big exam on 12.12.08 and less time, and it is already exhausting to look from time to time to the NKT and Kelsang Gyatso articles. If I do not react on your talk page notices then probably because I do my studies and don't wish to be distracted, but in important cases just give me a note via email and I will look what I can do. My email you'll find at the talk page of the Shugden controversy article, user:emptymountains has made there the impressum of one of my websites known, so just follow this link, then click on the address, then you can get my email. best wishes, --Kt66 (talk) 16:05, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Claude-Max Lochu[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Claude-Max Lochu, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. A tag has been placed on Neten Chokling requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. – Hysteria18 (Talk • Contributions) 21:00, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shigatse article[edit]

Hi! Thanks for your note. The main information was taken from Tibet: a travel survival kit, p. 168. (1986). Michael Buckley and Robert Strauss. Lonely Planet Publications, South Yarra, Vic., Australia. ISBN 0-908086-88-1. The full quote goes: "The Dzong was dismantled stone by stone during the Cultural Revolution, apparently by hundreds of Tibetans, some from a commune outside Shigatse, at the instigation of the Chinese. Whatever happened, the Dzong is gone (the memory lingers on?), shaved off the mountainside where it once dominated the whole town. Only a few ramparts are left." Unfortunately, I can't find the other book I used for a reference, Tibet: A Fascinating Look at the Roof of the World, Its People and Culture, p. 115. (1982). Elisabeth B. Booz. Passport Books at the moment. My books are in a huge mess - hopefully I will come across it soon and will send you the information. I think I mainly got the date from that book.

Oh good! I have just had a search on the internet and have just found it on the book section of Google - you can see the main information at http://books.google.com.au/books?cd=6&id=5qm6AAAAIAAJ&dq=Elisabeth+B.+Booz&q=dzong#search_anchor. Warren W. Smith[edit]

Rédacteur Tibet, please don't ascribe bad motives to editors who haven't shown any. Your edit on Serfs Emancipation Day was not "suppressed"; with the new history text it was clear that Warren W. Smith was attacking a straw man. All sources (including Chinese) agree: 28 March was the day of the dissolution of the Tibetan government. However, the Chinese Internet Information Says, "That meant the end of serfdom and the abolition of the hierarchic social system characterized by theocracy, with the Dalai Lama as the core of the leadership. About 1 million serfs and slaves, accounting for 90 percent of Tibetan population in the1950s, were thus freed."[3] That Smith points to a different date for the "democratic reforms freeing the serfs" is irrelevant, because he is not arguing that the serfs were freed on the democratic reforms; nobody is. Finally, the allegation that the government declared the holiday to 'avoid the situation in Tibet' was also included in the article. So out of three of Warren's points, two were included in the article, and one was not because it didn't make sense. I hope this makes my reasoning clear. Splittist (talk) 17:20, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I have asked Bertport first, as he contacted me about this article long ago, but thanks for defending your deletion of my source. I do not think this info by Smith is irrelevant, as there are other references pointing to the date of july as the official date of freedom for "serf", according to some pro-chinese propagandists, surch as Anna Louise Strong. At least I found this on the french wikipedia : Anna Louise Strong, When Serfs Stood Up in Tibet, op. cit. chap. VII Lhalu's Serfs Accuse : "The accusation meeting (...) was a local affair, a hearing on Lhalu's treatment of his local serfs. It was being held under the Fourth Inhabitants' Committee of the Western District of Lhasa. (...) It was clear that Lhalu, like other serf-owners, had a large number of nantsam, and that those who were house and stable slaves, being in frequent contact with their master, were quickly detected in misdemeanors and at once flogged, and sometimes also cast for periods of various lengths into the "private jail" which all manorial estates maintained in their cellars. (...) At times some response was forced from Lhalu. On some charges he admitted that he had been "too harsh", had "a touchy temper", had "made mistakes" or "gone to excess". (..) Suddenly a loud shout rose like a war cry from the audience: "Burn the debts! Burn the debts!" (...) Lhalu's steward, was bringing in the "titles of debts". (...) All "feudal debts" had been outlawed by the resolution passed July 17 by the Preparatory Committee for the Tibet Autonomous Region. (...) Matches were put to the pile (...) [Lhalu] gazed without expression at the fire which was burning away the documents of his feudal power. Then a few of the guards came to take him away. He went without handcuffs. So, I guess Smith is right. --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 17:41, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now that's usable information. I have added information on Strong's July 17 date, and also Warren W. Smith's comment on the date here. Splittist (talk) 18:07, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ICJ, Agee[edit]

Sorry, I can't verify this. I don't think I have the book anymore, which was the Stonehill or Allen Lane first edition of the book - see. http://books.google.com/books?id=DEIVAQAAIAAJ or http://books.google.com/books?id=O_O3QgAACAAJ - which indicate a smaller number of pages than the edition viewable on google. It's likely he toned down his criticism in later editions, and that is where the discrepancy comes from. If it's not there, then I have no explanation, other than that I should drink less.:-)John Z (talk) 22:47, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Temple for Peace for deletion[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Temple for Peace, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Temple for Peace until a concensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. SchuminWeb (Talk) 21:38, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Foreign relations of Tibet[edit]

Dear Fred Bauder, I have translated in french the paragraphe Foreign_relations_of_Tibet#The_trade_delegation_of_1947. If I am correct, you contributed in writing it [4]. Do you have any reference to it? This would be of help to me, since I was asked to provide references. With many thanks for your good work and for your help.--Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 13:09, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That material is from the first few chapters of Orphans of the Cold War, which I own, and have, after a short search, found. I'll reread it and insert detailed references in the current version of the article. Fred Talk 15:13, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem: Tenga Rinpoche[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! I have already responded here [5], but I will rewrite the article, so as to avoid future problem. --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 17:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is a page that describes how to document consent to use material from other sources. Like many outside sources, this source is not written in the encyclopedic style expected of Wikipedia (it assumes the reader has too much knowledge, uses unfamiliar jargon, etc), so its usefulness may be limited. License tagging for File:Logo-jiats.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Logo-jiats.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 23:10, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of JIAST[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on JIAST requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hang on to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Melaen (talk) 23:33, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Advocacy Group[edit]

You asked as question on my talk page about the meaning of a word in the English article.

I have to say first that this was a very difficult article to work with because there were lots of different names for possibly the same concept and also different meanings for the same word. Here is my understanding of the different terms in English. There is still a lot more to do. This is an important article and thank you for working on it in French. There should be no reason to delete it as non-notable, that is nonsense. It may need cleaning up but that is a different issue.

The phrases have slightly different meanings in English. Here is my take on it:

 • Lobby group. A group that lobbies directly for changes in legislation, ie purely a relationship to persuade legistlators of the merits of their case. In my experience most Lobby groups also do advocacy as well to put pressure on legislators indirectly as well. Lobbists often call what they do 'public affairs' or 'public relations' to make it sound nicer.
 • Advocacy group. A group that Advocates for change in many ways, including possibly lobbying. This is probably the best term for what most groups do. The article probably also mention Astroturfing if it doesn't already!
 • Pressure group. Another name or Advocacy Group, but one that implies great use of real mass public support than large amount of money. Corporates are more likely to be paying Lobbists; Environmentalists can't afford that but can get loads of people to write to the papers and MPs etc so might be termed Pressure Groups.
 • Interest Group/Special Interest Group seems to either mean a 'Advocacy group' or might just mean people interested in a specialist subject with no desire to change anything.

I always use the term Advocacy Group unless the activity is over 90% lobbying.

You may wish to contribute some more French information or references to Lobbying#France. Refer people to this article if they think the subject is not notable.

-- PeterEastern (talk) 22:39, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

 • The word 'also' is being in the lead sentence of Advocacy group to indicate that the other terms are alternatives to 'advocacy group' using a format similar to many other articles including Sidewalk. PeterEastern (talk) 04:43, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Tibetan naming conventions[edit]

A while back, I posted a new proposal for Tibetan naming conventions, i.e. conventions that can be used to determine the most appropriate titles for articles related to the Tibetan region. This came out of discussions about article titles on Talk:Qamdo and Talk:Lhoka (Shannan) Prefecture. I hope that discussions on the proposal's talk page will lead to consensus in favour of making these conventions official, but so far only a few editors have left comments. If you would be interested in taking a look at the proposed naming conventions and giving your opinion, I would definitely appreciate it. Schäfer Expedition[edit]

Thanks for your POV marks on the Talk Page of 1938–1939 German expedition to Tibet. This articles includes dubious sources like Trimondi. I inserted one WP:RS, changed the strangest things, and added the template "unreliable sources": Maybe you find time to improve a bit what I did or what needs to be done still. I lack time to engage. Thanks a lot. 213.182.68.42 (talk) 15:01, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank your for your reply. This is all quite crazy. Tibet and the topics around it are by far too complex for many, and most seem to rely on highly inaccurate and unreliable sources. Thank you for trying to improve whatever is possible. It would be good to keep the unreliable source template as long as the article is not using WP:RS. Also Pringle is used too often I think, besides this dubious source not even the pages are given, where these claims can be found. Good bye and thanks. 213.182.68.42 (talk) 19:57, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your note. It's a matter of WP:RS. Pringle, Hale or Trimondis (especially Tromondis) don't fall into this category. At least with respect to Trimondis this should be obvious for everybody. The others two might be more difficult to prove. 213.182.68.42 (talk) 14:11, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I added to the article the fact and sources, that Schäfer changed the letterhead to "Deutsche Tibet Expedition Ernst Schäfer" and I also added what his own objectives in that expedition were. It would be nice if you could have a look that these things are not removed without a proper reasoning. Thanks 213.182.68.42 (talk) 14:51, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rédacteur Tibet, I can understand now better why the French Schäfer expedition WP Article is that bad: there is a lot of occult literature in French about the alleged "Nazi-Tibet connection". The paper by Engelhardt might be useful in this. It's now online and I inserted it just as a link in the first two footnotes using it in 1938–1939 German expedition to Tibet. In case you need it (I didn't mention it on the talk page), here is the link again: The Nazis of Tibet – A Twentieth Century Myth. Happy New Year, Rédacteur!

You wrote to me a couple of days ago about the article being created on Victor Chan. I was not really sure what you wanted me to do and was going to write to you anyway. I made just a couple of small edits before I was interrupted by family affairs. I just had a look at it again this morning but, for some very strange reason, I cannot find a copy of your letter to me. I am sorry to inconvenience you - but would you please write again and let me know what you would like me to do? I am very happy to proofread the draft article and make any small changes. The article Khawa Karpo-Tibet Culture Centre has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Davin[edit]

I noticed - purely by chance - your comment about the leaving by Davin of Dutch Wikipedia. ( Talk: Ngapoi Ngawang JigmeAugust 28 ) The actual reason is quite another. The real reason was the enormous number of mistakes, blunders, but especially the fact that Davin refused to take any responsibility for that.

He was unwilling or unable to use quality sources. As you can see on Dutch Wikipedia this has led to the fact that dozens and dozens of articles by Davin had to be rewritten. A task that will take years.

Renevs — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.195.47.21 (talk) 20:24, 12 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh really? I do not beleive this without proof. --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 11:14, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How many rewritten articles do you want to see? I will post them with the last version of Davin and the present version. 62.195.47.21 (talk) 21:01, 18 September 2014 (UTC) Renevs[reply]
Rewritting articles is not a proof of any mistake. It only shows that other people write it diffirently. This issue here is that of sources, references. --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 21:08, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fine. Sources and references then. I have limited myself to 20 examples . This is a more or less random choice that could be done in about 10 minutes. ( The writing of this post took far more time. ) I could present you a manyfold of more examples, but as you can understand I do not want to spend hours on this discussion. The rewriting of this articles had nothing to do with the fact ´´ that other people write it diffirently ´´ but was necessary because of the amount of often ridiculous mistakes, due to the fact that Davin either did not use sources at all of refused to use quality sources.

In the following examples A. = the last version for which Davin was responsible in terms of content, B= the present version, apart from some possible textual improvements by others, my responsiblility. Even if you do no read Dutch, you will be able to see the difference in term of use of sources/references.

I.

Buddhism in Mongolia A. [6] B. [7] B.
History of Tibet. A. [8] B. [9]
Tibetan Empire A. [10] was Davin's last version of the Tibetan empire. It only describes some events in the mythical past before 600. See for example the difference in sources in the two versions. B. [11]

Kathog A. [36] ( In this version Davin describes a visit of Vairocana 400 years after his death to the monastery) B. [37]
Mani kabum A. [38] In this version Davin translates Mani Kabum as The Clear Mirror of Royal Geneaology. B. [39]
Tibetan Improvement Party A.[40] In this version Davin calls The Tibetan Improvement Party a communist party B. [41]
Thubten Kunphela A. [42] Tibetan Improvement Party is a Maoïst party and Kunphula worked for the maoists during his years in Nanking. B [43]
Wengcheng A. [44] B. [45]

II.

I cannot withstand the temptation to illustrate the work of the sheer fantasy of Davin with a ludicrous example.

In the following four articles Davin describes the reasons for the sealing of Cave 17 where the manuscripts of Dunhuang were placed. These are all versions by Davin.

[46] Here the reason is an impending invasion of the Tangut.[47] Here an impending invasion of the Mongols. In [48] and [49] the documents were hidden ´´ to serve as terma in a later age´´.

I realise you may have some difficulty in believing this. However , I give you a correct translation from the Dutch.

One of the other ludicrous events was his article The Chronicle of Tibet. This was deleted after the completion of the appropriate procedure on Dutch Wikipedia. However it can still be read on a Wiki-like site that some people use to post deleted articles from Wikipedia. here

Even if you do not read Dutch, but you must be able to detect that the Zhangzhung Kingdom existed for 3500 years, that Tonpa Shenrab was born in 1063 B.C. , that Langdarma was a Bonpo, that Sakya Pandita acts on things long after his death, that Karma Tseten becomes King of Tibet 40 years after his death, etc. etc. All together there were some 50 mistakes like that in the article.

62.195.47.21 (talk) 14:55, 20 September 2014 (UTC) Renevs[reply]

You know, WP is a collaborative work. It would be intresting to have response from Davin him self. I do not think he invented mistakes, he certainly used references, some of which may be contain mistakes. Even good quality source may contain mistakes. Anyway, I consider his absence a big loss for WP at large.--Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 20:20, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is a very remarkable answer. You asked for proof, you had the opinion that ´ ´This issue here is that of sources, references ´´. I present the proof and I give 20 examples of work of Davin concerning sources and references. You must have noticed that for example key articles like History of Tibet had only one source, Tibetan Empire two sources including the most ridiculous source of Henk Spierenburg. Both Tibetan annals and Old Tibetan Chronicle have no source at all. And I can present hundreds of articles of Davin that have no source at all either.

A last comment on your remark ´ ´ Even good quality source may contain mistakes ´´. Show me a quality source – or any source at all – with mistakes like Cave 17 was sealed because the documents were hidden ´´ to serve as terma in a later age´´, that the Zhangzhung Kingdom existed for 3500 years and The Tibetan Improvement Party was a Maoïst party , etc. etc. etc. And again I could present hundreds of examples like that. Of course Davin invented things. 12:13, 23 September 2014 (UTC) Renevs — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.195.47.21 (talk)

Going into detail of all the examples you indicate here would take me a long time. I suppose Davin advice on all this would be important. I do not believe he invented theses "mistakes". They may represent minority views, but may also represent some intresting ones. Yes, I could indicate some similar mistakes under the name of Alexandra David-Néel, or other writers on the French wiki, if you understand French, you could also be impressed... It takes times to improve referencing, but there is no need to accuse WP users of mistakes in references. WP is a collaborative work, Davin did an enormous one on WP. --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 15:07, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You avoid answers to my remarks and questions. Show me the sources where nonsense like that or ´´ minority views ´´ is written. You wanted proof, but you do not want to spend the time to see the evidence. I do not consider it as fruitfull to continue this discussion with someone who has nothing to contribute then only his/her personal opinion on Davin and ignores all the hard facts. This was my last contribution on this issue. 62.195.47.21 (talk) 17:31, 23 September 2014 (UTC) Renevs[reply]

I am not Davin, toward whom, I have the impression, you're strongly opposed. Neither was I requested to judje who is right or wrong in this. This is why I feel I have no obligation to respond tou your "remarks and questions". I only think you should not criticised WP users as you do, this is highly conterproductive. --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 10:48, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Advice about using photos from WP[edit]

Dear Redacteur Tibet, first, thank you for the great job you have been doing for years on Tibet. I have seen it often on my own work on matters Tibetan. I need some very simple advice. I have written a book about the Fifth Dalai Lama and now I'm just collecting some illustrations. The problem is copyright, permissions, licences etcetera. From what I understand, image files uploaded onto WP have free use by anyone, including copying them from WP and putting them in a book. Otherwise they would not appear in WP for anyone to copy and use? For example, I would really like to use this file among many others: https://www.google.com/search?q=gushri+khan+and+sonam+chophel+images&tbm=isch&source=univ&client=firefox-b-d&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi8gcazw6nnAhWz8uAKHa6oBVsQsAR6BAgIEAE&biw=1138&bih=503#imgrc=RNY8onSwMZ08WM

The photographer is Brian J. McMorrow and he claims copyright, although the image or part of it has been used in several WP articles without crediting him.

How can he claim coypyright if he has uploaded it to WP? It also says: "Public domain. Cette œuvre est également dans le domaine public dans tous les pays pour lesquels le copyright a une durée de vie de 70 ans ou moins après la mort de l'auteur. "

So I'm a bit confused. What if I take a copy use it in my book and credit the photographer? Would I be liable for infringement? It doesn't make much sense to me but obviously for my book it's very important.

There are a number of other similar images I would like to feature in my book, which is more or less finished. Thanks for your comprehension! Please excuse me if this question is out of order or not your concern. MacPraughan (talk) 12:28, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In principle, you are right, any file from commons.wikimedia can be used freely. In practice, you should verify (as somme user upload copyright file). Best wishes, --Rédacteur Tibet (talk) 11:29, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
