Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

The right to sometimes split infinitives

Ha! I laughed out loud when you wrote:

(Yes, I do yell at the television whenever a split infinitive, dangling modifier or failure-to-use-the-subjunctive be heard! It's a wonder I'm not hoarse...)

I don't yell at split infinitives, or at sentences that end with a participle, because I think those things are historically a part of English and rules against them added in later by someone (Henry Alford?) who felt that English should emulate Latin's grammar whenever possible. (Dangling modifiers are more errors of logic than grammar IMO but I do yell at them anyway.)

I am pickier when it comes to grammatical features of English that are historically English. The thing that makes me most hoarse while watching TV is the use of "who" where it should be "whom"! (Take it from me, you don't even want to start down that path; it's far too frustrating! Talk about losing battles...)

Anyway I just thought I'd say hello to a fellow grammar geek!

I found both of these while reading the article on common English usage misconceptions, which explicitly states that it is ok to sometimes split one's infinitives. (Interestingly, it did not say that it's ok to use who as the object of a sentence, so I will continue to yell at the TV whenever I hear my bête noir.) Sorry. I know how much you wanted the whole split infinitive thing to be wrong...
