Your new userboxes are ALL copyright violations!![edit]

I see you added a bunch of user boxes with the logos of various car clubs on them.

Sadly, you're going to have to go and delete them all again because every single one of them is a copyright violation of that companies logo. You simply aren't allowed to go around using copyrighted images like that just anywhere in Wikipedia. The images are used in articles about car companies under the provisions of 'fair use' - which is a special excemption under copyright law that applies when the imageis being used for purposes of commentary about the company. Within Wikipedia, we have a set of ten conditions that must ALL be met in order to use an image under 'fair use' provisions. You can find that list in WP:FU - and your user boxes only meet about half of the conditions. So it is imperative that you remove these new userboxes immediately.

Any day now, you'll find your Talk page filled with automatic complaints from tools that run within Wikipedia that search for illegal uses of copyrighted images. Please don't wait for that to happen before acting!

I have removed them all. Many thanks for letting me know. Philaweb T-C 18:02, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Lund Central Station, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Lund central station. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. January 2008[edit]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently copied the contents of a page and pasted it into another with a different name. Specifically, you copied the contents of Østerport Station This is what we call a "cut and paste move", and it is very undesirable because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. The mechanism we use for renaming articles is to move it to a new name which both preserves the page's history and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself by this process, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves to request the move by another. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. KurtRaschke (talk) 21:34, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I did not realize there is a move feature. Many thanks for letting me know. Philaweb T-C 21:37, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re[edit]

Many thanks for moving and splitting the pages as requested. Ir seems to me that User:Ivan Bogdanov and anon-ID 89.216.91.129 has similar preferences for articles on heads of states etc. I am not able to determin whether the article moves can be justified. All I know is that both users move and revert without communication in any way with other editors. Philaweb T 15:46, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

No problems, Philaweb. Feel free to drop by my talk page if you need any help in future. I'm going to keep an eye on User:Ivan Bogdanov - I'm quite concerned about his shifting articles about without discussion and some of his edits look a bit peculiar. Sarah 07:34, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback[edit]

I reviewed your account, Philaweb, and you look like a good candidate for 'rollback' so I gave you permission for it.[1]. Rollback is a special fast, one click feature that allows fast reversion of edits. It is used by administrators who can also enable it on the accounts of trusted editors; currently there are around 900 editors with rollback permission. Please be careful that you only use it for reverting vandalism - editors who have misused the tool, using it on good-faith, non-vandalism edits and in edit wars have had it removed without warning. Here are some helpful pages:

Cheers, Sarah 07:34, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks, it already came in handy. Philaweb T 19:18, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've blocked Ivan for 72 hours, but please make sure that you only use rollback for reverting obvious vandalism. Don't use it on edits that appear to be good faith if misguided edits as Ivan's edits appear to be. If you aren't sure if an edit is vandalism, don't use it. It's only made available to trusted editors as an anti-vandalism tool. Sarah 02:38, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ivan blanked warnings of his talkpage more than once, which indicates: 1) He is well aware of what a talkpage is 2) He has no intention of communicating. I do not see hes edits as being of good faith if misguided. Philaweb T 07:12, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that may be but I'm just telling you because you will lose the rollback privs if you keep using it like that. It is only a anti-vandalism tool and as easy as it is given it can be taken away by any admin who notices it being misused. It's up to you what you choose to do from here on but I know that those edits would not be interpreted by other admins as obvious vandalism but rather as something warranting an edit summary. Remember that edit summaries aren't just for the user you're reverting but for other editors as well - if you're using any automated reversion tool it should be very obvious to other editors looking at the edit history why it's being reverted, and if it isn't obvious it needs to be reverted by normal means. Even blanking warnings isn't vandalism and can't be interpreted as bad faith - people are allowed to remove messages (even warnings) from their talk pages and we simply take that as confirmation that they've read the message and can't claim in future when we block them that they never saw it. Sarah 07:22, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I have most likely misunderstood the concept of rollback and would like you to remove the privilege. Philaweb T 07:35, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to take the last part of that sentence back.
Since I was in a hurry this morning and did not have time to elaborate, I would like to elaborate on my (07:12, 26 February 2008) answer now. Naturally, people are allowed to remove messages from their talk pages. That was not my point. My point is when people remove or revert messages to their talk pages, they also confirm they are actually aware of their existence and the likelyhood of the messages actually being read. Not answering the messages confirms unwillingness to communicate, which then further strengthens the impression of not being of good faith, even if misguided. Philaweb T 17:37, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I noticed that you put the article at Start quality. What would it take to get this to be a Good Article, in your view? Do you have much experience with the GA criteria and process? Thanks. Pls reply to my talk, HG | Talk 22:54, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I assessed this article at Start quality on the basis of the philatelic content, the biographical content has to be assessed at the same level. The article is well referenced, even though you could do some additional work on the citing technique. To improve the article I suggest you to dig into the procedures of preparations for the postage stamp issues - the why's and how's of the story. Furthermore, you need to take out words like "ironically", since it may just be ironical to some people (POV). After some days I will have a look at the article again for a second view. Philaweb T 23:57, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! You marked the article as unreferenced. Is the Bertelsmann-Lexikon not a good reference? Kind regards, — Tirkfltalk 08:54, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is nothing wrong with the Bertelsmann-Lexikon. The article is missing in-line citations. Philaweb T 10:52, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PrivatBank[edit]

I would ask you to reflect upon your removal of PrivatBank from WikiProject Latvia. AS Banka Paritāte was a significant business bank in Latvia during the 1990s, and its re-branding as PrivatBank last year does not change this fact. Perhaps SEB Unibanka and Hansabanka also, despite their histories, should now be considered purely foreign (i.e. Swedish) banks? Being primarily related to Latvia is not, to my knowledge, the guiding criteria for inclusion of an article in WikiProject Latvia. Cf. DJ Lethal, for example. — Zalktis (talk) 09:03, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AS Banka Paritāte is now AS PrivatBank (Latvia) - a subsidiary of PrivatBank. They are two different juridical entities, as well as SEB Unibanka is a subsidiary of SEB and Hansabanka is a subsidiary of Swedbank. The article AS PrivatBank (Latvia) would be a perfect candidate for inclusion to the WikiProject Latvia. Philaweb T 10:41, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Message about the Latvian SSR 1919[edit]

Hi Phila, if you can correct/revert my edit then please do so. I was trying to clean up the English of some of the articles so I may have made a few errors in terminology. I substituted "Soviet" for "bolshevik" in a lot of cases because it was a more neutral term but obviously in this article I will bow to superior judgement. In later articles I have done this substitution because it could be regarded as NPOV but here obviously you believe it is necessary. Thanks for your contact. Stamps and postal history template[edit]

You don't seem very active, so adding a link to Postage stamps and postal history of Latvia seems rather unproductive to me unless you are intending to write a Latvia stamp article. Maybe you have started it in a user sandbox already; in that case let me know, otherwise I will revert it. This template was ridiculously overcrowded with redlinks so was drastically pruned and revised recently. Since then we have been trying to keep the redlinks to a minimum, not adding more until articles exist. ww2censor (talk) 14:54, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Latvian Names[edit]

you simply mean 'Lativan name' not 'official name'. This page also needs moving Riga

I mean "official Latvian name" as opposed to "official name in English". Since most Latvian towns, cities and villages does not have English exonyms, the use of official Latvian names in Wikipedia articles is correct. One exception is Riga, a city that has an official name in English. Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 13:44, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Laimnesis (name)[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Laimnesis (name), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Please consider whether all the articles about Latvian names you are creating are notable. Stifle (talk) 11:59, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
They are notable in the sence that they are not spin-offs of Christian names and names from other cultures than Latvian. They are unique for the Latvian language. I will find some literature on the topic before I create further articles, since Latvian names and their name days are notable - even though some of them perhaps should be in a list. Hi - I thought I should let you know that I've undone your changes to this, because for now it is upmerged to Europe-church-stubs until there are enough articles - ie, 60+ - to justify making a separate category of it (stub cats don't work like ordinary cats). Hi Phil,
I had noted the navbox you mentioned, but I thought that a corresponding list navbox would be appropriate. Many of the "Regions of x" articles are actually lists, and this should be reflected in their titles. As far as I can tell, each country should have an article about its regions as well as a list of its regions. Would you disagree with this assessment?

Barnstar[edit]

The Geography Barnstar
I award you this barnstar for your recent Latvian parish articles! Rosiestep (talk) 00:14, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When you create new geographical articles without coordinates, you might want to consider adding the {{coord missing}} tag, which will (invisibly) add them to a hidden category that indicates that coordinates need to be added to the article. For an article on Latvia, the format is {{coord missing|Latvia}}, and the corresponding hidden category is Category:Latvia articles missing geocoordinate data. The coord missing tag is normally placed on a line by itself towards the end of the article, just above the first category tag or interwiki link. When real geographic data is added later, either directly with the {{coord}} template, or indirectly via an infobox, the {{coord missing}} tag can then be removed.

If you want to add coordinates to articles yourself, Wikipedia:Obtaining geographic coordinates has more information about how to add coordinate tags. If you need any more information, the participants at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geographical coordinates should be able to help. -- The Anome (talk) 09:23, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tikpat labi arī pilsētām un pagastiem (parishes) vajadzēja saukties par municipality - atšķirība nekāda - tie visi ir pašvaldību veidi. Hello Philaweb! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. House of Prayer vs. Church[edit]

Yeah I know. But if it is a church as opposed to a mosque or synagogue and is in Riga then you may as well debloat the main Latvia church category and have a cateogry for churches in Riga as a sub cat of both of them. That is, if we intend at some date having a lot of articles about other places of worhsips across Latvia. Good work on tsarting them. But what are you trying to say. You object to Category:Churches in Riga? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:19, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No no, I object to deleting the "house of prayer" category and just want to tell you that the last one in that template is not a church, so you need to keep the "house of prayer" category anyway. Re: Reducing Ogg files[edit]

Hey. I do tons of work with audio files. I use two apps. One for manipulating the file and the other for converting to WAV format and back to Ogg. I use Nero Wave Editor for the actual manipulation and just use Audacity for converting and reducing.

Audacity doesn't use a scale of bit rates that you can choose from. Instead, they use a scale (0 - 10). Wikipedia recommends a setting of 0 and that comes out to about 64Kbits per second. I got started by looking at WP:SAMPLE. Dawnseeker2000 20:27, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 23:32, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!

I started working on the Saulkrasti article (currently in my userspace to avoid initial mess). I got a nice brief 2-page newspaper history article. Also got a page-long article on Skultas osta — local lumber and former fishing port; that should go nicely in Economy/Industry section. I also got an old Soviet guidebook, though I'm told it has some colourful Soviet propaganda; in any case it may give a great historical perspective.

I'd be happy if you helped with this — with references, corrections, or otherwise. It's always hard for me to keep myself motivated/focused, so additional input would be great. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 20:00, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! I think I am partially finished with History section - from end of 19th century to middle of 20th century. This part will most likely not change a lot in content, as I may not be able to find much more information. The newspapers themselves were summaries of the most important stuff. I am missing earlier and 2nd half of 20th century history, but I hope to get these from some books or other newspapers. I wouldn't mind if you roughly looked over the history section to point out if the text loses sense or comprehensiveness at any point. My head is a bit steaming as it really sucked combining 8 articles that basically talk about the same period but from different perspectives. I got lost in it many times, but I am hoping it came out more or less illegible. Cheers! —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 13:57, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Architecture[edit]

Hey, you're in deep mess there - people who writte about historic architecture seem to go to their happy place when they know you will require a dictionary to understand. Perhaps look at a picture of the building in question. IMO The former (a.k.a. the house in question) has different decorations for each window (aila is an opening in which you put the window frame in), and under the bay windows there are hermes (these?) — supports with sculpted upper part ~~Xil (talk) 23:31, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting view on whatever people thinks or not, that is quite a judgemental statement. When it comes to the specific text that I asked for your assistance: "Pēdējai katras logailas apdare ir atšķirīga, bet zem erkera veidotas hermes — balsti ar figurālu augšgaļu", I am able to decipher all but one word, which is "erkera". Do you by chance know what it means? Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 07:39, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Aha, seems like bay window is erkera, I was just being a bit slow there... thanks for your help. Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 07:51, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, why judgmental ? I've been searching for information for Riga and noted that the authors ar high on architectural terms and low on explinig what they mean (that and part of the books are from Soviet era, which means that street names are all wrong). And I translated the whole sentence for you, if you didn't understand just one word you could have said so ~~Xil (talk) 21:28, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"people who writte about historic architecture seem to go to their happy place when they know you will require a dictionary to understand" — seems judgemental to me, perhaps some of them don't (go to their happy place)? And I did thank you for your help. Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 21:35, 4 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yeah, I know, Riga city council also has its own version. There is though a thing - the order isn`t necceserialy a court order, most sources do imply it was, but one said that order came from city council and ailab.lv has it that the trial was cut short by war. Also they are not refering to great guild being under cat`s tail, but to the fact that they are facing oposite directions, which appears to be current situation i.e. after the cat was suposedly turned around. Vietas.lv probably are generating that text automaticaly for everything they`ve marked as arhitectural monument, note though that it is located within UNESCO world heritage site, so it ight be protected ~~Xil (talk) 21:30, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic[edit]

I am not party to whether certain actions of this world are legal or illegal. I was trying to make a point clearer. I feel it is better to say that one "recognises an occupation as illegal" rather than "recognising an illegal occupation". In the latter, the term illegal is an adjective modiifying the key object that is "occupation", and it is also using "illegal" with the official language of sanction when perhaps not all international bodies accept this. Evlekis (Евлекис) 19:07, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see. I have re-added your intended contribution. Unfortunately, your edits removed the word "recognises" and replaced it with "viewing", which gave the sentence quite another meaning. I hope the sentence now reflects your intended contribution? Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 19:18, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely. You did the right thing and I am grateful you respected my edit. I was never going to engage in an edit war on this one, not even with one more revert. I appreciate the source you added. Just one thing, with me and my background, it is Balkans not -tic!! We have some similar experiences in some areas but just out of interest, the non-recognition of the Baltic states as SSRs - is this now universally accepted? Even by Moscow? I know that a united Communist party continues to have branches in most of the former SSRs allbeit behind closed doors in some places where they have been banned (eg. Lithuania) but this doesn't constitute a world government. And because of the de facto status (that was beyond anyone's physical control), is it still all right to refer to the likes of Estonian SSR as you would Ukrainian SSR when applying birthplace details for persons born before 1991? Sorry about all the questions. Evlekis (Евлекис) 19:35, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Baltic states are still highly controversial here on Wikipedia with some heavy edit warring on certain articles, mostly about history and politics. Using SSR's as place of birth in Wikipedia articles is not controversial, merely a fact... at least in articles on Latvian topics. Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 19:44, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your welcome in English Wiki....I am Italian (Milan) and I write USUALLY in It:Wikipedia, but I love English language and sometimes I come to En:Wikipedia (that is the most complete Wiki with an high number of pages) to pick up some news or translate En:Wiki pages from English to Italian. And sometimes I add some news in En:Wiki expecially for pages dedicated to Italy(our Italian history, our Italian geography or Italian art or Italian music or.....our...Italian food like....Pizzaaa!!!) or Lombardy or Milan....Ciao. Bērziņš[edit]

I will not, because this has been a precedented standard to place presidents-elect/prime ministers-designate in the infobox, so long as is is properly shown that they are the (Elect) or (Designate) as thia does. It is not a confusing concept, as long as the infobox does not show the term end date, preventing it from saying the outgoing president/prime minister is no longer the incumbent. The edits are clear and I can't see how with these factors delineated that it could possibly be confusing. Therequiembellishere (talk) 14:36, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article The Case for Latvia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The article does not supply any sources which give it notability in an encyclopaedic setting. As it stands it is a dump of chapter names and sub-sections.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your HighBeam account is ready![edit]

Good news! You now have access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research. Here's what you need to know:

  • Your account activation code has been emailed to your Wikipedia email address.
    • Only 407 of 444 codes were successfully delivered; most failed because email was simply not set up (You can set it in Special:Preferences).
    • If you did not receive a code but were on the approved list, add your name to this section and we'll try again.
  • The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
  • To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1; 2) You’ll see the first page of a two-page registration. 3) Put in an email address and set up a password. (Use a different email address if you signed up for a free trial previously); 4) Click “Continue” to reach the second page of registration; 5) Input your basic information; 6) Input the activation code; 7) Click “Finish”. Note that the activation codes are one-time use only and are case-sensitive.
  • If you need assistance, email "help at highbeam dot com", and include "HighBeam/Wikipedia" in the subject line. Or go to WP:HighBeam/Support, or ask User:Ocaasi. Please, per HighBeam's request, do not call the toll-free number for assistance with registration.
  • A quick reminder about using the account: 1) try it out; 2) provide original citation information, in addition to linking to a HighBeam article; 3) avoid bare links to non-free HighBeam pages; 4) note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate
  • HighBeam would love to hear feedback at WP:HighBeam/Experiences
  • Show off your HighBeam access by placing {{User:Ocaasi/highbeam_userbox}} on your userpage
  • When the 1-year period is up, check applications page to see if renewal is possible. We hope it will be.

Thanks for helping make Wikipedia better. Enjoy your research! Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 20:57, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Accuracy of Latvian mythology[edit]

I stumbled upon Latvian mythology because its accuracy was disputed and I noticed that you have been involved with the article in the past.

If you are interested in helping out, we would greatly value your input and opinion on Talk:Latvian_mythology#Inaccurate_information.

The article as it is needs a lot of work: it has no sources for its content, it is factually disputed, and it is in sore need of an expert's attention. If you could help out at all, even in a small way, we would all be grateful for your improvements to the article and discussion. Thanks, Matt (talk) 22:53, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I did a roundtrip from Switzerland to Sweden, that will be published in a Swiss magazine (L'Officiel Voyage).

The print run is 7'000 copies, it paperers in German and French (5'000 German, 2'000 French).

I like this picture very much – what do I have to do so I'll be allowed to publish it?

Hi. I see you are listed as a member of a WikiProject of a Baltic state. I was wondering if anybody who actively works on Estonian, Lithuanian or Latvian articles, would be interested in launching your own Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Baltic), based on the Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic) and Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea would be to try to bring about 1000 article improvements and creations on this region as an enjoyable challenge and potentially things like National Contests with prizes. If you'd be interested and think it's something you might regularly contribute to, comment and sign up at Talk:Baltic states. If there is interest we can move this to a project somewhere and set something up, thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:26, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Undoing my edit[edit]

Hello, I see that you undid one of my edits here. It is unclear to me why you did this. This category meets the empty category speedy deletion criterion. In fact, it appears the category was created over a year too early. Surely you cannot expect this category to be unused and ignored for over a year? Please undo yourself or provide a reasonable explanation for your edit, or I will be escalating this matter to WP:AN/I. Thanks, 73.11.16.51 (talk) 23:30, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@73.11.16.51: Hello, I found an article that I thought can be indexed to the category. Unfortunately, another user has reverted my edit, which is why the category is empty again. You may have a look at my contributions to get clarity on what I have been doing. Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 14:20, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I took a look at the edits you are referring to. It looks like someone removed the category because there is a chance the election will take place in 2017 and not 2018. In any case, this is a dispute that should be resolved on that article's talk page. If that's accurate, then the editor who removed the category is probably right to remove it. However, until that dispute is resolved, the category is currently empty. It has to be tagged for 7 days before it can be deleted, so tagging it like I did is proper. If there is consensus to re-add the category and it becomes re-populated, then the tag can be removed. If the category has already been deleted, then the category can be recreated. Either way this category should not be sitting around empty through all of 2017 waiting to see if Latvia has an election then or in 2018. I'll be undoing your edit and re-adding the empty tag for now - please don't remove it again unless the category no longer meets the requirements for speedy deletion. 73.11.16.51 (talk) 19:09, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it looks like you un-did yourself already. Thanks! Again, the category can be re-created when populated. 73.11.16.51 (talk) 19:14, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Could you move more of the parishes to the standard name format with upper case "Parish"? Both forms are correct, but English Wikipedia mostly uses upper case.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Aina Muceniece, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Soviet occupation of Latvia (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Edit war warning[edit]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Aina Muceniece shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Abuse of Wikipedia for promotion[edit]

In these diffs you restored unsourced advertising in WP. You now own that content.

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on ZamPost requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.zampost.com.zm/about.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. S Philbrick(Talk) 12:36, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Sphilbrick:, the above chosen text says that "your addition will most likely be deleted". Please note, that I have not added the text that constitutes a copyright violation. Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 13:31, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. It is our general practice, when nominating an article for deletion, to attempt to contact the initial editor of the article. That's why you receive this notice.
I do see that your initial edit has not been flagged as a copyright issue. It is possible that the admin looking at the copyright issue will pair back to the article to the original sentence. Is my personal opinion that an article consisting of a single sentence without a supporting reference should not remain as an article, but others may disagree.--S Philbrick(Talk) 14:39, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for your response. Without our communication recorded on this page – and an eventually deleted ZamPost article, it would be difficult for any readers of the speedy deletion notice, to decide for themselves, whether I am the culprit, or not. I can see that the IP-user who added the text that constitutes a copyright violation, has not been cautioned. The IP-user is from Zambia and could perhaps want to learn how to contribute to Wikipedia in a proper way? Talk/♥фĩłдωəß♥\Work 14:58, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Notice

The file File:Clear - Cybotron.ogg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Inadequately/insufficiently supported by critical commentary of article subject(s). May fail WP:NFCC#8.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Naukšēni Parish moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Naukšēni Parish, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Replaceable fair use File:Alsunga.ogg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Alsunga.ogg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Category:Aizpute Municipality indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Friedrich Voss (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
