Why, it's the lovely Uta von Ballenstedt! I've known of Uta for a long time, she's quite the standout medieval sculpture- specifically tho I ran into her again while translating a bit on the Naumburg Master. There's something so appealing about that gesture of lifting up her collar- like she's hiding her face but not really trying. I recall reading that Umberto Eco once said that if he could have an hour with any woman from the Middle Ages, it would be her. Can't say I blame him. Oh and hi yourself. Cait O'Riordan is very nice indeed. Pronounced facial features are definitely a plus for me... I've never understood why so many people think plastic-smooth round faces are attractive... Steal away. Well, I've been reading a bit on early modernism in the US. Dunno if that's your thing. The centennial of the Armory Show, which was the major catalyst for modern art in the States, is coming up in 2013 - and as luck would have it, the German article on it is FA. Same thing with Nude Descending a Staircase, the centerpiece of the show. I mentioned these to Modernist a while back, and he seemed interested. It seems likely that between the three of us, we could easily (as far as anything at FA is easy) get these to featured. I'd translate the German sections and we'd go from there. I've tried starting on them myself, but for some reason it's easier to start from nothing than it is to try and integrate translated text into a pre-existing article... Im listening Lith, but I find modern art is very difficult to right about. I've tried recently with Degas and Klimt, but found the sources too abstract for me to summarise and went down in flames in both cases. Freud and Bacon would be more my avenue, I suppose because both are figurative and both had, eh, interesting social lives, so there is a lot to write about and hooks are easy. By the way are you still living in Germany, and what part? As I said before we have a big ex pat community of germans here in cork, and I've lived there a few times myself, its a great place, a faciniting and resonant culture. Yeah, if you thought the geographic and chronological problems in defining Early Netherlandish Painting were bad-- with modern art there's always a risk of it degenerating into "the formalists say X- however, feminist scholars have said Y about it, and semioticians reject both views in favor of Z; meanwhile, post-structuralists have deconstructed all three views, and by the way some random mathematician has analyzed the compositional vectors of..." --- But seriously, consider the Armory Show. We don't have to stitch an "analysis" section for an artwork together out of 15 contradictory sources- it's a history of an exhibition, its reception, legacy, etc. Though if you're really bent on something earlier, I'd like to improve the Isenheim Altarpiece and Matthias Grünewald.

Unfortunately I'm in school and splitting my time between Cincinnati and Lexington. Over-the-Rhine is about the closest I get to Germany at this point, but some day... Next time I'd like to visit Weimar and the rest of the former GDR. Supposedly there are fewer English speakers there, which would be great. It could be incredibly annoying in Munich -- You make one grammatical error and then - aha! It's a native English speaker! It's Christmas! We'll practice our English! You can recommend English-language authors for us! So that we can practice our English! Can you tell sat I am Cherman when I talk English to you? What? You want to improve your German? Oh yeah man Isenheim Altarpiece would be a great thing to work up, its proto goth he he, and I have already tried with Crucifix (Cimabue, Santa Croce). Have been to Weimar a bunch of times, but mostly I was in Erfurt, with months in Munich, Stuttgard, Hanover and Dresdin. I liked Erfurt best. Munich is well, Munich. Too big, too serious. Moving Blake articles

Hey Lith, I noticed that yesterday someone moved There is No Natural Religion to There Is No Natural Religion and All Religions are One to All Religions Are One. I don't really see the point of this, but if we're being pedantic, don't the pages now have inaccurate titles? The correctly formatted titles now exist as redirect links. I was checking through some of Blake's other poems to see how the page title corresponded with the poem title, and I note they all match exactly except Milton a Poem, which has been moved to Milton (poem). That's just inaccurate surely; the name of the poem is Milton a Poem, not Milton. Strangely, the user who moved No Natural Religion and All Religions is not the same user who moved Milton. I'd be inclined to move all three back to where they were, but I wanted to get your take on it first. Bertaut (talk) 02:39, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Move them back. This is User:Headbomb, right? He also moved Jerusalem the Emanation of the Giant Albion to Jerusalem: The Emanation of the Giant Albion, and I moved it back. I saw the Milton move too and wasn't happy, but I wasn't quite as certain about that one. If you agree, that's enough for me. It's simply what's in Erdman, the authoritative edition. Earlier writers on Blake, and unfortunately most anthologists today, tend to "correct" his writing. So people who've only read Blake in anthologies come in and think that our spellings are "incorrect". The same is true of the poems from Songs of Innocence and Experience - it seems like every other week some joker comes in and wants to punctuate them. BTW, did you get my barnstar? I really appreciate your work on those articles. Speaking of Jerusalem, that article needs work... I'll have to get to it one of these days... Thanks, Lithoderm 02:51, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

I moved Milton, but I can't move TNNR or ARO because the article I'm trying to move them too now exists as a redirect; There is No Natural Religion is now a redirect to There Is No Natural Religion, so when I try to move the article back to it's original address, I'm getting told I can't do it. Glad you got it, I'd hate you to think I was unappreciative! As for the two pages, I think it's because the redirect link and the article title are identical apart from a single capitalised letter. I've had a look through the help (which is never easy), and I think we may need to request a move and get an admin to do it. I'll let you take a look first and see what you think, if you can't do it, I'll request a move on both pages, you can agree with it, and it will be moved in 7 days. The section on Occupy is definitely notable, no question about it. It is well referenced, and there's even more information that could be added, such as the fact that Jesse Jackson was there in November to address the protesters. What's annoying is that he also removed the bit on it being popularly referred to as "Garfield Park". Now I've lived in Cincinnati for some years and know this to be true - big statue of Garfield, located on Garfield Place right next to the Garfield Suites Hotel - but the link I used to cite this has gone dead. Found it on the Internet Archive. I've reverted the removal and updated the citation. We could stand to add a little more on Occupy, as the two sentences we currently have make it sound like a one time event, when in fact it continued into November and I believe was briefly revived in the spring of 2012. GLAM and The William Blake Archive

Hello, I noticed recently that you have contributed to a number of the high quality William Blake articles. I thought I might reach out to you. I am going to be working with content from The William Blake Archive this summer as a volunteer and then into the fall as an Graduate Student Intern with the archive. I was thinking about setting up some volunteer GLAM-Wiki activities, and was wondering if you interested in helping/supporting?

Also, I would be interested for any agenda suggestions you might have for my time with the Archive. I would appreciate feedback at User:Sadads/Blake under the Agenda Items heading (Please don't spread it too widely, I am going to use that page as mostly a working document and I haven't had the internship and "GLAM-Wiki cooperation" 100% officially recognized by the Archive).

All images sorted by book and copy on Wikimedia Commons would be a start. I began to manually upload them, but that was quite a while ago. I haven't been very active with Wikipedia since last summer, when a GLAM project I attempted to initiate fell through. Just demoralizing, I guess. I wish you better luck with the William Blake Archive. I didn't even know they were a physical institution. Anyhow, I've been nabbing their images for years despite their false claims of copyright over public domain artworks. I'll think about it and take a look at the page, if I get a chance. I would be interested in helping, if what you initiate goes through. If you're interested, I can advise re what not to do in GLAM projects, as I'm certainly experienced in that. Here's a free one - don't count your chickens before they're hatched ("haven't had the internship 100% recognized by the Archive"). Also, are you part of the GLAM mailing list? Sorry I didn't respond earlier, I wasn't watching your page. I am part of the US GLAM list, and will be on the main one again in the near future. I know somethings of the problems with GLAM initiatives, I was on the team when we first started talking with the Smithsonian, and that was flop for a little while....

The Blake Archive isn't a physical institution, they are entirely web based, but I am working with one of the editors and with support from their editorial board (and will try to run physical events in England and in the States). I have, since my earlier comments, ironed out the details. I am well aware of their copyright claim problem, and they are as well (they do that claim to ensure that private donors will still give them copies of Blake images. I am going to try to find a more reasonable copyright claim for them to publish or give us on commons while I work with them over the summer and into the fall). Semi-retired status

Hi: I was doing some work on Blake materials because I have been supporting a class that has filled in the missing poems from Songs of Innocence and of Experience, and I realized that you placed a semi-retirement a year ago. I was a bit surprised:Its sad to see someone who created such great content, go away. I was wondering if I could tease you out of retirement, with anything: I find that the most refreshing parts of my work is outreach with projects like WP:GLAM, the Education program and the The Wikipedia Library. Anyway, I hope you are well, and its a shame to see someone with so much experience doing humanities working missing from the community, Sadads (talk) 22:27, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

I guess I just became disillusioned with the whole project, between my WiR attempt falling flat and some other factors. It became clear to me how little my efforts here mattered to the real world, and my academics had begun to suffer besides. I've spent time in the last year or so devoting myself to rectifying that and developing more social hobbies. Ohio Wikimedians User Group - Invitation

Hi Petropoxy (Lithoderm Proxy),

I'm Kevin, one of the founding members of the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. Created in July 2016, we're working to be a central group of Ohio Wikimedians who organize and support offline events, promote the Wikimedia movement in Ohio, build connections throughout our state, and above all, support each other. We already have a handful of members and have worked to support multiple events, including Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States and several Art+Feminism edit-a-thons at universities throughout Ohio.

I wanted to reach out to you and invite you to join the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. Being a part of the user group will allow easy communication between active Ohio editors, notifications of upcoming events in the Ohio area, and, if you're interested, the opportunity to help organize events such as edit-a-thons or workshops. Some notes:

• All members receive a monthly newsletter with recent happenings, upcoming events, and more. Check out our April newsletter here.
• This Thursday at 8:30 EST, we're having our first online meeting. Check out our meeting page here for more details, an agenda, and a section to sign up if you'd like to join us. Topics will include introductions and brainstorming for future projects.

2019 US Banknote Contest

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.
