Specs[edit]

I believe {{aircraft specifications}} came before {{aerospecs}}, just my guess. You can not mix the parameters. I suggest copy the {{aircraft specifications}} from the main A-26 article into a new subpage to your User account... double click on User:PeterWD/Sandbox and insert the copy specs... then change all the specs that is needed for Marksman aircraft. Once you got it the way you want, then copy the "new" specs, delete the old Marksman specs ,and insert the "new" specs.

Catalina[edit]

Looks good just some other suggestions - you dont need the navboxes on what is a related article and I think you only need the Lists of military aircraft and can loose the other cats. It needs a few more refs as it may be considered just a copy of the catalina society website! Perhaps consider splitting serial/reg into Original Serial Number and Current or displayed Serial Number of Registration or something like that. Perhaps we need to ref some of the Wreck and Relics books and Andy Mardens US preserved aircraft or similar. Ive turned off the List cat temporary as your sandbox appears in all the cats! Bay of Pigs[edit]

I received your earlier e-mail direct from WikiPedia, but the return address apparently had an error preventing my response from reaching you. Thank you for providing the more complete explanation on my talk page. I'm not certain I have much more of interest to you. Admiral Dennison's account was not a book, but an article in the periodical Proceedings of the United States Naval Institute. As I recall, the article was based on a tape-recorded oral history project the Institute undertook decades ago to preserve recollections of senior naval officers regarding events of historical significance which might otherwise be clouded by military secrecy and political slant of contemporary press releases.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the publication available for reference, but you might find a collection of the United States Naval Institute Proceedings available in a comprehensive military history library. Alternatively, you may contact the Institute directly concerning availability of their oral history recordings.

Your references appear to be based on the observations of lower ranking officers; and, as a general rule, I believe lower ranking officers were often in positions to better observe (and report with less embellishment) what truly happened as opposed to what was intended. (My college room-mate became an A-6 pilot in Vietnam who flew missions where he found no targets and jettisoned his ordnance over the Tonkin Gulf; but his squadron CO would rewrite his mission reports to indicate dropping the bombs in locations where secondary explosions were observed.) We have been working simultaneously on article on this one, though I named mine Miles M.15 T.1/37 aftersome agonising. By the look of it, you have the better sources but I've written more on development, partly as a comparison with the Magister. Since you also got in 10 min before me, I'm happy to remove my article (once I've found out how to do this: MilbourneOne will know), but would suggest basing the "development" section on mine. If there is anything in yours that's not in mine, I'll add it in. Your Op History should remain as is (I don't have one!). That OK with you?

Peter, just noticed your edit to Heston Phoenix, I appeciate you have added detailed information like serial numbers and owners to the article but some of the information is to detailed for an encyclopedia. We normally leave such detailed histories to others as it is not really notable. Our purpose is not to record the detailed histories of every airframe. Apology Peter I was a bit harsh - I have tried to re-write the aircraft histories to make them a bit later. In Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Registrations we have an exception for aircraft built in small numbers (less than 20) to list some sort of history. See what you think. Eglin A-26[edit]

Accidents/Eglin AFB/A-26 Invader[edit]

Seeing your involvement with Eglin and accidents pages, I'm interested in discovering the serial of the A-26 Invader that crashed in the sea near Eglin on 28 April 1945 while testing Speedee (Highball) bouncing bombs. It was the only A-26 so modified, reportedly at (Vickers) Brooklands. I don't have any expertise on researching accidents, but can you offer advice on how to proceed. By fluke of circumstance, I am visiting my father in Shalimar, Florida, adjacent to Eglin AFB. I will see what I can come up with about this accident while in the area. Checked the local paper, The Okaloosa News-Journal, Crestview, Florida on microfilm today at the Fort Walton Beach Public Library for April 1945, and could not find any article about the A-26 accident. The local publication was only a 4-6 page weekly, published on Fridays, and reading further along, it was not until August 1946 that an accident account appears in the paper (and only a fatal L-5 Sentinel crack-up, at that). I am supposing that the Proving Ground was being very closed-mouth about wartime activities... I may try to contact the history office at Eglin AFB. Jack Hawkins Bio[edit]

Peter - Glad to help out in my small way in trying to keep BOPI NPOV. As for writing bios, I have never had a copyright violation problem, because I always write everything in my own words. Historical facts are not subject to copyright - only wording. I see where you had some problem a while back on a bio of Jack Hawkins. I assume from the discussion above that at least part of the Hawkins article was cut-and-pasted from another website. I don't have access to the now-deleted wiki article on Hawkins, but I'd bet that the problems could be easily fixed by rewording and use of quotations. If you have a copy of the former article that you could post somewhere such as on this talk page, I could have a whack at changing it so that it does not violate copyright. Cheers. Peter - comparing the article in your sandbox to the article on spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk, I don't see where the copyright problem is. Copyright law treats extensive paraphrasing as akin to copying, but I (without any legal background in such cases) am surprised that there was a perceived problem here. Thanks for contacting me. Unfortunatley I'm not in contact with anyone at the base, and haven't been there since 2002. I did a search through Google Maps, and if you look at their link, you can see an overhead view of the planes they had at display at the main entrance of the base. I don't believe that I have any pictures of those planes, but hopefully with the overhead view you can make out the aircraft type. The base's website has a "contact us" page, so if you provide enough details, perhaps they'll forward your request to the person who handles the aircraft (somebody has to maintain them especially in that terrible climate). Hi PeterWD -- in your note you said "Hi, your amendment to the article asserts that Playa Giron is outside Bahia de Cochinos. In all the maps and documents I've seen, that is not the case. I plan to reverse your change within 24 hours, unless you can provide a source or convincing rationale.". This map [1] shows that it's just outside the bay, though I can see how some might disagree. Peter, You got a good start. Leading with a large photo is not standard... should be further down in the article. A photo or logo would be on the right, with text on the left. You have good text content and table of exhibits. Your second second sentence is too long and needs to be broken up and written "encyclopedic", not as text as one would find on a company's website. Any adjectives as "largest","tallest", or a claim of fame must be factual and referenced or documented, and not an opinion. Other sentences are complex. The majority of an article's text should be simple grammer of subject-verb-object. If you like, I could do an edit of your sandbox for you.... either replicate all your text and pics, with mine at top and yours below... OR straight over edit of your text, your choice. Glad to help. Your changes look good. I tweaked a couple of things. The second sentence in the History section is awkward; needs rewording. Yes, the museum infobox is probably the standard, but not consistantly used. Otherwise, highlight and copy your final text, open up the new museum name, and paste. Latin America[edit]

Actually yes, there is a problem, the battle template (which is being used for political events) has been removed from all associated articles and replaced with a new template of the same title at the bottom of the articles. List of Consolidated PBY Catalina survivors[edit]

This has to do with the two aircraft listed for Buffalo Airways. According to the Transport Canada database Buffalo own two PBY-5A, FNJE and FPQM and the List of Consolidated PBY Catalina survivors has FPQM and FUAW for Buffalo. Again according to the database FUAW is now owned by Pacific Flying Boats. On the list FNJE is listed as being owned by Fairview Aircraft Restoration Society (FARS). There are a couple of problems with the TC database. First the serial numbers don't always match the list. Second, the TC database shows all registered aircraft but does not say if they are airworthy or not. So according to TC Buffalo has 14 DC3s but some are in pieces to be used as spare parts. PeterWD: Thanks for approving this link. I've tried to include similar links as projects with which I work offer such historical background on other topics and I thought it would be valuable for Wikipedia readers. However, in the case of Libya and the Operation Eagle Claw links, they were marked as SPAM. Also deleted yesterday, with no comment on my talk page, were links to first-hand accounts from the Battle of Ia Drang. These are all original accounts of the battle from people who were there (or in the case of one wife, her memories of thinking her husband was dead), so I'm not sure why they aren't allowed. Any insight you have would be helpful. I'm not trying to SPAM. Just trying to share some of the info. I've worked to pull together in other arenas. I think that's a good idea. I've moved it to Heathrow (hamlet) and changed the link on the Did You Know nomination. The article for Heathrow Airport is getting quite long now, so a separate history article is definitely worth considering. Also, I've got hold of the 2000 Years of History and Around Heathrow books now, as well as Time Flies: Heathrow at 60 which seems to have plenty to be going on with. Yes I was somewhat concerned by that as well. As it doesn't exist as an area anymore, I'll remove it from the Hillingdon template. I've heard before that Heathrow sits on the boundary of three areas, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Spelthorne. Not sure if that is mentioned in the airport article. Penshurst Airfield[edit]

Hi, I've noticed that there is a "verification needed" tag on the article. I can't get the pdf to open, so am unable to double check this. It seems that you have a book that also verifies the statement. As I don't have the book, would you do the honours of adding a ref. The article uses {{sfn}} for all book refs. I have looked at the original Spanish, and the machine translations. I can rule out the Google translation - it is unreliable and a bad mistranslation. The yahoo-babel and bing translations are better, but they are not valid nor "safe" enough to be admitted without causing a furore. I would suggest my own translation:

I am a total technopeasant (a fact probably evident to all!) and grateful for your comments and suggestions on the Mrs Bruce page. Unfortunately I still find the editing process very complicated and confusing, and on several occasions have begun the process and then quit in frustration. I set up the page for Mary Bruce several years ago because of a particular interest in her life. Years of research have finally resulted in the biography just published; it fills in many omissions in her highly selective autobiography. Much of the misinformation on the Wiki page is due to her casual recollection of her life in "Nine Lives Plus"; I guess writing an autobiography 50 or 60 years after the events accounts for the errors and omissions. There are still several errors on the page (she was not convicted of speeding at age 15; her first car was not an Enfield-Allday; she began racing her several speedboats and set the first of her two English Channel records in 1928, not 1929; she began flying in May of 1930; she took lessons at Brooklands, not from Norman Blackburn in Brough; she didn't have a forced landing in San Diego; she crashed in Medford and Baltimore . . .etc). I was unable to add the reference for the expanded material on Air Dispatch, but at least I have apparently corrected a couple of things.
