somehow... probably because of a similar file name, the pic i uploaded has been replaced by a judge dread jpeg...? -not sure how to fix it...

For File:JIM NORMAN.jpeg you have labeled for use on Wikipedia only, this is not a valid license for Wikipedia, and a free one that allows copying and modification is required such as CC-BY-SA-3.0. The email to en-permissions should confirm such a license. Hopefully the copyright holder will grant such a permission with a low res shot like this. Obituary tag on Eric Tunney

Please do not remove valid cleanup tags without providing an appropriate edit summary, and especially without doing any work to correct the problems therein. The article reads like an obituary because unsurprisingly it was created in response to Tunney's death and is sourced entirely to obituaries. I have re-tagged the article; work required will include examining the tone used (which is currently excessively positive and sympathetic) and removing the "Remembrances" section unless there is reason to believe that said remembrances are in some way a definitive part of the biography. Commons is a different project, sort of

Hi, I saw your message at Commons:Commons:Village pump. I think you were confused because Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are two different "projects" of the WMF. Even though your logon works there you have a different user page there, so it was blank, but as you see this one is OK.

I see that you were making a fair use claim for one image, but you put that reply in the wrong place - there was a link suggested for discussion, but the person making the decision might not read your talk page.

To save you further confusion, if an image is very old you can put it on Commons, and if an image is not so old but you go through some hoops trying to see if the copyright was renewed and then put it on (I think). But if you're claiming fair use then it has to go on Wikipedia (which is what you did, so you could have made an argument for it). Both projects accept image uploads, and Wikipedia's overrides Commons, but images that can go on Commons should so other projects can use them.

Dutch Mason and image on page

I believe that Wikipedia copyright policy only permits album covers to be used in relation to a page on the specific album. It would be permissible to put up a picture of Dutch Mason that you own, or a picture that can be viewed as a public promotional picture from his record company or his management. At some point, an editor is going to take off the image that you have put up. Better to set up a Prime Minister of The Blues album page and position the cover there.

Belittling others won't take you anywhere, so you might want to refrain from using terms such as 'mistakes'. Try and keep your cool when communicating with other editors on Wikipedia. Second of all, I never said anything to the tune of 'there should be no examples of art'. That's something you've assumed. As with art (be they images or videos), they are acceptable to Wikipedia as long as they support and corroborate factual content that is recorded on the article page. Therefore, those do not qualify as promotional. In what way does your YouTube video of the performance corroborate any factual information that is already recorded on the page? If you can provide a rational for including a performance video to support a fact recorded on the article, by all means you are welcome. Simply posting random performance links qualifies as promoting that particular performance, as you know there are countless such performances. If everyone's desire to add such videos is honored, Wikipedia will cease to be an encyclopedia, rather it will end up becoming YouTube. See what I mean? Consider reading WP:YOUTUBE#YouTube

What factual content does it corroborate??? Have you read the article or clicked on the link? It corroborates the essence of the article - that he was a professional singer. This is made evident by the video, which only streams audio and has a still picture. I would agree with you if there were more than one video "linked" as an example, or if a page for one artist was swimming in multiple YouTube links, but that is not the case for this, or tens of thousands of other articles with one relative YouTube link. If you can not see the practicality of someone who is trying to learn about something/someone being able to experience what they have just read by clicking on an external link provided by an experienced page creator or expander, then I'm afraid I'll never understand your point of view. Very sorry to say but your video does NOT corroborate anything of the sort. The video is simply a vocal performance by the Pandit, and does not corroborate any of the factual content provided in the article in an EXPLICIT sense. Second of all, I wouldn't be writing to you if I hadn't checked out the link you posted, so you really need to refrain from making assumptive allegations. Thirdly, you cannot base your argument on the fact that your link is the only link present right now. In the future, you will have many more people wanting to add links of their own. Think about what happens in that situation. Lastly, what I am presenting is NOT my point of view. I am arguing on behalf of established policies at Wikipedia. Additionally, you are requested to refrain from edit warring (which I just saw you did)... I hope you understand that edit warring is grounds for being blocked. You should discuss this on the relevant talk page, establish consensus from all editors and then make changes which are of disputed nature. Upon Aoghac2z's request, I would like to enter this conversation. I think, and general Wikipedia policies state, that unnecessary external links should be avoided. See WP:YOUTUBE for info on what kinds of external links are allowed. This particular video/audio in contention doesn't really fit any of the criteria does it. I must say that personally, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi is one of my favourite Kannada vocalists of all time, and I admire his music a lot.

And actually, to be fair to Paradise coyote, the addition of the link itself doesn't constitute spam or promotion. It isn't about a company or scheme or something. It doesn't constitute promotion, but still, I don't think it should be added. I see Paradise coyote's point in the discussion above, but you know, Wikipedia isn't a hub for hosting of youtube links or anything of that sort, so there you go. I didn't bring 'my friend' to help, rather I sought the opinion of another editor (who I happened to communicate with for the first time) on this issue. Wikipedia is an output of collaboration. If editors did not collaborate and share opinions on disputed issues, we wouldn't be editing here today. No one is ganging up on you. Rather we strive to adhere to established policies on Wikipedia and make an ardent endeavor to encourage other editors to adhere to the same. Your involvement being published in an arts weekly has no relevance whatsoever. Wikipedia does not care about editor credentials. See WP:CAI. About promotional content - it is an established Wikipedia policy to NOT allow promotional content. Therefore, it's not something I 'believe' in.. it's an established policy. Additionally, nothing puts me higher than you. We're all equal here. And for the record, I never 'threatened' to block you.. rather I said that Edit Warring is grounds for being blocked. It was a precautionary advice. Lastly, Wikipedia is not a medium to 'enjoy and share music'. There's YouTube for that.

I have learned to put up with all sorts of garbage entries on Wikipedia - and if I spent most of my time editing, I would easily find better things to work on (eg: the notability of every porn star in the world with a couple of films under their belts). You didn't look very hard for the source. It was right there on the page on the cd baby link. I put the extra info under references and added a note in discussion. He is a company. His cd is an indie release and it is registered with the government - which meets Wikipedia criteria (it is a published work). From WP:MUSIC on if a musician is notable, "5. Has released two or more albums on a major label or on one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years, and with a roster of performers, many of whom are notable)." There is also no reliable sources listed in the article or that I could find... Wikipeida, wix and allaboutjazz allows anyone to edit just and thus are not reliable. I have just received and processed the permission to use this on Wikipedia. I do not believe this permission is sufficient for us to retain the image and have asked the photographer to release the image under a usable license. We do sometimes host images that are non-free, noting that we have permission for Wikipedia, but the images must meet the criteria at WP:NFC with a valid fair use rationale demonstrating how the image meets the non-free guideline. Generally, we do not accept non-free images of living people, per WP:NFC#UUI. I hope that the copyright holder will be willing to release the image under a usable license; otherwise, it will be necessary to submit the image to see if it would meet the requirement of WP:NFC. --Moonriddengirl ^(talk) 14:54, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized).
