New Year greetings

Hi Ralph. Nice to see you've still got a finger in the pie here. I think that Veropedia might work out rather well for you. You contributed a lot of high-quality content here over the years, and I can understand the disappointment you must feel seeing articles deteriorate without constant input (or simply becoming victim to the ever-increasing but inconsistently applied Wikipedia standards). The idea of Veropedia appeals to me too, although I am too busy to join that project at the moment.-gadfium 18:06, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Please remember not to bite the newcomers as you did on User talk:Rach6892. You warned them as if they were a blatant vandal. A welcome template and a notice to do test edits in the sandbox would have been much more appropriate. Mr.Z-man 09:47, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi PMDrive1061,

So by some amazing coincidence, I was reading through User:Ginkgo100's short essay on speedy deletions, which has a great section on A1, and just decided to pop over to Category:Candidates for speedy deletion to take a look-see. I then clicked on the article above and noticed it was improperly tagged with that very criteria, so I removed the notice per WP:CSD and came over here to pass on the handy link. Enjoy! --jonny-mt 08:14, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Mmm I'm not sure that an unsourced statement of being "on the National Registry of Historic Places" is a claim to importance. No source, no context, no contest. Then again I'm very liberal with my interpretations of certain policies. I too have a section on speedy deletions. While it didn't fall under A1 wholly, it fell under it enough in my view that I would have deleted it. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 00:35, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

I've declined the speedy tag you placed on Image:Pasoalogo.jpg. The reason is:

unused images only speedy-deletable if under a non-free license

For your information, עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 09:29, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

I've deleted the image, it was uploaded solely for use in an advert article, it's been orphaned for a while now, and Wikipedia is not here to host images that serve no purpose, be it article or personal use. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 00:39, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello again!

I just saw your name pop up in the RC page. Glad to see that you're back, of sorts. I did get your last message that you left me, but I didn't reply back as I thought you had left. Anyways, I'm glad that you were able to take care of that cactus incident and are still around somewhere. =) -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 01:25, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Are you sure you don't want your bit back? It would be less work for me. ;) -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:19, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Re your message: I can understand not wanting to deal with being called a moron or a loser. (Hmm, does that last one make me rouge?) If you do ever decide you get the mop and bucket back, I'm sure that you will be welcomed back. Since you left on your own accord, at least you won't have to go through an RfA. I still think you are/were/whatever one of the best admins I've seen. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:35, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Re your message: So I see. I checked the deleted contributions and I see what you mean by the article. In a funny bit of irony, the editor had another article deleted that was a text dump of a current article. And guess who deleted it? Yup, you've seen this editor before. =) -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 19:44, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

This article may just be a sentence, but it does have clear context, so doesn't qualify for speedy deletion under WP:CSD#A1, which says "Very short articles lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article." It's very easy to identify the subject of this one. If you really think it should be deleted you should take it to AfD. Phil Bridger (talk) 09:49, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: My actions

Sorry that my edits put you off. No one will prevent you from expanding on the article, it was not tagged for deletion, just for improvement. I tagged it with as needed more citations because at the time there was only one source which I assume is managed by him. Articles need multiple sources that are not involved with the subject to be verifiable. And while he certainly sounds notable, Wikipedia's guidelines for notability require coverage in secondary sources which weren't present (similar to the first issue). If you want to avoid people tagging your articles you may want to try creating them on a subpage of your userpage, or use construction templates. Sorry again -- pb30<talk> 22:43, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi, I'd like to thank you for adding the under construction template to my page. It could've been deleted! :( You're really nice! Thanks, once again! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Beautiful-Nightlife (talkcontribs) 07:15, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I wouldn't tell him this, of course, but he's only been blocked for 24 hours. I think some of the admins are a bit uneasy about indefinite blocks on the first instance since there's a case pending in arbitration about an admin who abused an indefinite block. At least he's gone for now, though. ;) Redfarmer (talk) 09:22, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

I must say, that was a very funny block notice. Never seen anything like that, but I hope to see more similar notices. A cookie for you for a funny block notice. DodgerOfZion (talk) 09:42, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi

Thanks for the "warm" welcome. I created the pages about the Bosnia and Herzegovina and San Marino passports, because my goal is to have a passport page done for all European countries. At this point, we don't have much info, but once the article is created, I think the Wikipedia community will gladly contribute and fill it with valuable info bit by bit. Please don't delete it or revert it! San Marino may be a small country, but they deserve the right to have a page written about their passport. Thank you for your understanding, (Einstein00 (talk) 00:50, 18 January 2008 (UTC))

Thanks. I appreciate your help. Have a good one! (Einstein00 (talk) 00:57, 18 January 2008 (UTC))

Thank you for making a report at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn against, and report vandalism. Your report was not a case of obvious vandalism, and as a result, the user has not been blocked and the request may have been removed from the page. Next time please use Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents for reporting a complex abuse or refer to Wikipedia:Resolving disputes if you have a dispute with the user. Thank you. Copyvio

Hi. If you tag an article as a copyvio, you need to specify the source, otherwise your claim cannot be regarded as valid. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 22:33, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Blocking Policy

I have reviewed the Wikipedia Blocking policy and cannot figure out what content you might be referring to. My only submissions have been good faithed attempts to add what I believe to be appropriate content.
You also comment that "this guy had a lot of previous deletions" and that I should know better. Do you have me confused with someone else? I only began working on Wikipedia this week and have only submitted two items. Please explain. - Operknockity (talk) 05:50, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I want to make sure I'm clear on something else though...you mention that reposting of deleted material is frowned upon and "not taken lightly", however the Speedy Deletion notification itself states: If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources. Is that contradictory?
All advice is welcomed. - Operknockity (talk) 15:10, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Evil frickin medicine school

LOL. Thanks mate. I rarely get people thanking me and it means a lot to be appreciated. If you are referring to my mad editing today on french towns, at least five of the smaller wikipedias had these articles years ago and some of them are quite detailed. They may only be basic stubs to start wuith but given time I hope to see 36,000 detailed articles resulting from this. It is very important that these red links ar emoved and we begin developing this to the next level. As for adminship, the evil super villain that I am I am actually anti-admin and antiwiki councilling and turned down adminship long ago!! but I could really use admin tools at times I agree. Talk: Faith Lutheran Church

Is there any reason why you added the CSD G8 tag back on the above talk page after I removed it? It clearly did not apply and I was not the author of the page. I suggest you take the main article to AfD if you want to see it deleted. -- Mattinbgn\talk 01:19, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Skull Riders Redux

Some films, like Riders of the Whistling Skull (I'd like to check it for similarities to Raiders of the Lost Ark) more or less defy anyone trying to find much about their plots. Only providing cast and crew information and maybe a little background doesn't bother me, though, what makes me sick is spoilers, even when they're labeled. In some instances, Wikipedia is spoiling great films for a lot of people, the prime example being The Unknown with Lon Chaney, Sr. and Joan Crawford. The shock of seeing that great 1927 masterpiece for the first time is like no other, it's a life-altering experience, but the Wikipedia article blithely describes the whole plot, which I consider to be beneath contempt. It's made me reluctant to start an article about certain films. As for the "Star Wars" sentence you quoted, I think it would constitute a stub (albeit a heinously weak one under the circumstances), since it did provide some cast information--if it had just said something like "Star Wars is a movie," that would be something of no value to anyone. Anyway, I was writing up a few of those Three Mesquiteers westerns (John Wayne actually did 8 of them during his purgatory between masterpieces The Big Trail and Stagecoach) when I came upon Riders of the Whistling Skull and had to put in that one and Hit the Saddle..... Wastetimer (talk) 12:56, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Talk about a "puff piece!"

I noticed the username on that big ol' bio is, probably not by coincidence, the same basic name. Think we have us a bit of a conflict of interest here?  :) --PMDrive1061 (talk) 21:40, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Most likely i would say. To bad COI alone doesn't warrant for a CSD, but this could just as well be a G12(Copyright) since it looks a whole lot like a cut and paste page. Either way, there is so much wrong with the page (I never had to add 5 tags before) that it might be better of deleted, as starting from scratch will probably be easier then fixing that monstrosity :) Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 21:44, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Agreed. We may not even be dealing with the subject of the article, either. Even if it does stay under the notability guidelines, it's just a disaster the way it sits. I may Google some of the text and see if it comes back as a G12. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 21:48, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
  • What a surprise(not), it actually was. I hope you don't mind, but i replaced your DB-BIO with a G12 tag on copyright. I think the G12 is a little more convincing to hit DELETE then the bio, as he might actually be somewhat notable. Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 21:53, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for keeping an eye out on article quality. :) With specific regards to your speedy tag on Daniel Fryd, I just wanted to point out to you that WP:CSD#G4 is exclusively for articles that have been deleted following deletion debate and does not apply to articles that have been speedily deleted, though the original deletion criterion may still be applicable. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 03:05, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi. No, just to XfD discussions. You are appreciated. I spend a lot of time looking at articles, and I have a pretty good idea what would happen to the quality of Wikipedia if people didn't watch out. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 03:19, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

By all means. The tag you placed did not cite a criterion, but if it is indeed a copyvio, then please do tag it. seresin | wasn't he just...? 05:48, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I won't act on the CSD tag, but do be aware that what you listed this time is still not a criterion, and it will be up to the reviewing admin whether or not to assume it is a copyvio based on their history.
