Lede copyedit on Asbestos[edit]

I thought your edit was a big improvement to that article. However, it looked like you deleted a couple of references. Was this because the cited reference didn't support the statement? If not, I think they ought to be added back, since a statement with a cited reference (even if it's a trivial one) is much better than one with nothing to stand on.

(You have a few edits to the article, though, that I haven't looked all the way through, so I may be wrong and you may have added them elsewhere: in this case I apologize for the hassle and congratulate you on making the page more readable).

-- Thank you Jacob Gotts. In truth, I never finished my edit because another user kept deleting my edits and reverting to the old lede, as you can no doubt see on the history. He was being unreasonable so I just left it. When I first started editing the page, all the citations were dead so I removed them all and started the lede afresh. Some statements then also had citations to pages part of lifestyle websites, and when I started researching the statement, it turned out to be more or less hearsay. (For example, the story of mining 4000 years ago actually refers to a find in a site dated to 4000BC, which is 6000 years ago rather than 4000 years ago, and I found a paper where multiple archaeologists had found evidence of asbestos mining during the Stone Age, for use in strengthening clay pots, which pushes it back many hundreds of thousands of years). Almost all of the introduction is more or less copied and pasted from different websites, and the citations were put in to other vaguely related websites to conceal this fact. In sum total I think the whole lede needs a major change (my total replacement may be a starting point), but due to some disruptive editing I gave up on doing anything.
