I like your page. It would be a pain to keep it up to date with the speed at which they are created at the moment, but at least it's visually pleasing and not aimed directly at editors but more at the casual reader. Let me know when it's finished. Mgm|(talk) 08:42, Feb 16, 2005 (UTC)

Wikifun[edit]

You appear to be the leader in the scores, and the last question is likely not going to be answered. I have decided to close the round by 00:00 19 March 2005 (UTC) if no one answers it. The honor of preparing for the next round is left to you, so it seems, unless you like to refuse and pass the honor along to someone else. -- AllyUnion (talk) 23:11, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I'd love to host the next competition :D. I just hope that no one answers the question correctly by then (I'm pretty glad that FreplySpang got 14 right, so im still in the lead). BTW, do you know how long time should there be until the next round? Gkhan 23:55, Mar 17, 2005 (UTC)
Whenever your done with the questions. Be sure to use the Template. -- AllyUnion (talk) 23:57, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Congratulations on winning! FreplySpang 21:20, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Gkhan, just to give you a heads up. In order not to keep the game from going stale or inactive, I will have to ask you to post a new round by 00:00 UTC April 4, 2005 or otherwise allow someone else to put up a new round. -- AllyUnion (talk) 05:05, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi Gkhan, thanks for the contest. Looks like fun.
Can you move the old answer pages to an archive location? I've done it already for question 8 (Wikipedia:Wikifun/Answers/Question 8 to Wikipedia:Wikifun/Round 4/Answers/Question 8), but at the start I had placed my answer on the wrong page. Eugene van der Pijll 23:33, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Sorry, no time to talk now... Am looking at all links from Max Weber. Wikipedia:Goings on, user talk pages of former contestants... Eugene van der Pijll 23:46, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I've just moved my answers on questions 8 and 20 to their proper places... Eugene van der Pijll 00:43, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Wikifun again[edit]

Thank you for this round of Wikifun, because it was, indeed, fun. As I seem to have too much time on my hands, I would post the questions for the next round in the near future. May Wikifun continue! Grue 18:58, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Once Upon A Time[edit]

Since you were the one that came up with the plot for Once Upon a Time I think that you should be the one to start the story, then have everyone pitch in. If you don't want to though, I'll gladly start a couple of paragraphs. --Rentastrawberry 05:08, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)

Since I was going to start the once upon a time thing, I created this tag that I thought was sort of funny and cool. You can use it if you want.
The neutrality of this story is in question. However this story isn’t meant to be neutral.

--Rentastrawberry 16:44, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)

I was going to write it, but I think everyone thought that you wanted to. So your writing it. What I did was just write about the first 5 paragraphs. If there is anything you want me to do, I'll do it. About the front page though; if I did the front page, it would be a disaster. I tried to do a front page last night, but it turned out like crap compared to every other front page. I really don't think you would want me to do a front page. If you want to see what I wrote, I can put it on your progress page. --Rentastrawberry 17:04, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)

The storys good. The busman 18:39, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I've signed up for a chapter and left a note/suggestions on the discussion page. I think the time constraints are creating difficulties for the writers. So, I've started my chapter and we can merge as things progress. I've read your workpage and taken what information is there for my "Bible." I did add a character -- the manor can't run with just a butler, so my character is the upstairs maid. The cook is snowed out. My biggest question is the timeline -- does the murder occur the same night the guests arrive or do they have a snowed-in day together for murderous tensions to arise? For your reference: User:WBardwin/Chapter Character: Ethelynn. Hope we manage to get the thing moving. Comments always welcome. WBardwin 19:43, 28 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

saw your name come up on a voting page (Go Dodgers!), so I thought I'd leave you another message. I've continued to mess around with the site - in lots of places. But I wouldn't want you to think I'm taking over your story - after all you are Chapter 1! Please look the site over -- and my chapter -- and give me your opinion. We already have another person starting a chapter, so maybe it will get off the ground now. Thanks for your inspiration and your work. WBardwin 17:20, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree that the concept doesn't really apply here, but, as we are in a development phase, it would be nice to establish a format and methodology before transferring it elsewhere. Evidently, the page has already survived a vote:
"This project page has been kept following this VfD debate. Sjakkalle 11:40, 26 May 2005 (UTC)"[reply]
Time is fluid here, and people get distracted - and I think the date constraints really created a problem for the initial effort. But I was charmed by the site when I found it, and by your initial draft, and wanted to participate if possible. Think about it and drop back in a while. Everything in Wiki moves away from the creator and initial vision anyway. It will be interesting to see just where it goes. Best wishes. WBardwin 21:07, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please see http://www.perantivirus.com/sosvirus/hackers/alamo.htm

Lamo is Colombian by parentage, and a convicted felon. Not all entries in the Crime section imply terrorism.

There's a large Colombian expatriate community. Not residing within the country doesn't make them less Colombian.

Sorry for any confusion. Hope this helps.

a thanks for your welcome message[edit]

I started today my page here at wikipedia and I saw you put a message in my talk just minutes after I created it. So, since it's the first message I receive I wanted to reply... I took a look at your page, it's interesting... A suggestion: don't be proud and don't be angry about vandalism on your page, it's just the rules of the game. Wikipedia lets everyone edit any page, even personal pages, and the most interesting thing is to see how wikipedia is built by the apport of everyone. There are people who work hard to build wikipedia, others who use it just to search things and never edit it; just like in every society there are people of every kind, even vandals. We just have to accept it, it's part of the game. Ok, now I stop telling you what you should do, you seem to know so much more than me about wikipedia, I have been here only for two days... Keep up with the good work! --User:jmcmegamega 16:46, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Mostwanted[edit]

I took the liberty of fixing all the diacritics on your Mostwanted page (how I did it: copy into vim, save as latin-1, load as UTF-8 (the encoding I use), copy back to Firefox, and let it do the final conversion). --cesarb 23:10, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Awesome job! Thanks a lot. And such quick service, too! --Dmcdevit 23:22, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Railroad data pages[edit]

Well, you certainly found someone interested in adding railroad content. I've been creating and updating railroad data almost exclusively (and I list pages that I create on User:Slambo/Trains and graphics that I create for them on User:Slambo/Gallery). I suspect that most of the railroad articles showing up on your list are the result of the footer navigation templates, especially Template:Whyte types, Template:EMD diesels and others. We've got quite a few navigation templates as shown on Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Article templates, so I wouldn't be surprised to see many more appear on this list. I've stubbed out a couple more from the Whyte types list, and I'm slowly adding information for the EMD diesel types as well as articles for other railroads as shown on Template:US class 1, Template:US class 2 and Template:US class 3. slambo 13:49, May 10, 2005 (UTC)

Oops, replied to the wrong user. It was Dmcdevit who left me the note about the large number of railroad locomotive articles on the mostwanted list in your userspace. slambo 16:58, May 10, 2005 (UTC)

Mr. Arbitrator man...[edit]

What's going on with Wikipedia:Chess championship/Tournament 1/Game 8? Ugen64 put down 1-0 (and he's right, White wins: ); Jasabella changed it into ½ - ½. Neither have left comments on each others' talk pages. JRM · Talk 07:41, 2005 May 18 (UTC)

Nope, it doesn't. 34... Kf8 (34...Kh8? 35. Qxc8+ Qd8 36. Qxd8 mate) 35. Qxc8+ Kf7 36. Qf5+ Kg8 37. Re8 mate (or 35... Qd8 36. Qxd8+ and White wins). That rook is dead. JRM · Talk 09:13, 2005 May 18 (UTC)
I think Ugen64 resigned, he was playing Black and wrote 1-0 as his move when he realized that the rook is gone. Sjakkalle 14:16, 18 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

While we're both here maybe we could get a few moves in? :-) Before I have to go to bed... Evercat 00:32, 19 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Heh OK fair enough. I'm off now myself.

Your go board[edit]

Sorry for mercilessly abusing your go board. I was the "newbie" - for templates, anyway. I was going to revert change, but due to server lag I didn't get around to it. I have been trying to check History of that page ever since getting your talk:Ed Poor note. -- Uncle Ed (talk) 16:46, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

Could you reconsider your delete vote? I've rewritten the article. RickK 05:20, May 29, 2005 (UTC)

Mostwanted[edit]

Here's a few, though I don't know much about computer language, so this may be the wrong format:

  • If the article title starts with "USS_" it should go under subcategory "United States Ships".
  • If the article title starts with "British_Rail_Class_" it should go under subcategory "British Rail Classes".
  • If the article title starts with "U.S._House_election,_" it should go under subcategory "U.S. House elections".
  • If the article title starts with "EMD_" it should go under subcategory "EMD locomotives".
  • If the article title starts with "List_of_radio_stations_in_" it should go under subcategory "Lists of radio stations".
  • If the article title starts with "New_Zealand_general_election_" it should go under subcategory "New Zealand general elections".
  • If the article title ends with "_United_States_Congress" it should go under subcategory "US Congress sessions".
  • If the article title ends with "_Province" it should go under subcategory "Provinces".
  • If the article title ends with "_rock" it should go under subcategory "Rock music by country".
  • If the article title ends with "_at_the_2000_Summer_Olympics" it should go under subcategory "Countries at the 2000 Summer Olympics".
  • If the article title ends with "_City_Council" it should go under subcategory "City councils".

That should clear out most of the template-caused repeats. How's it look, can you do it? Thanks for all your help. --Dmcdevit 05:40, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey, I notice you're away, and I don't want to sound impatient, because it's not urgent, but I'm just wondering what your status is on this. If you can fix this up, I wanted to copy this to the actual Wikipedia:Most wanted articles page. --Dmcdevit 03:30, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Your comment on speedy overkill[edit]

I just ran into a slightly old comment of yours [1] After reading the entire thread I was, quite frankly, alarmed with the harsh and callous words you used against the newbie. I understand that you probably did not intend to come off that way, but it is certainly the way I read it and I believe almost certainly the way the newbie read it. In the future please make an effort to consider your words from the eyes of the receipent... it will do a lot to help make Wikipedia a more cooperative, friendly, and productive place. Gmaxwell 4 July 2005 23:38 (UTC)

Yes I realise that I might have sounded harsh, and i did apologise for it later in the discussion, but did you read the original post? The guy was incredibly rude and arrogant and unwilling to cooperate. He came with an unjustifiably angry attitude, later he engaged into some serious personal attacks after I had apologised and offered to help. Even worse, later he pretended to be someone else, a quite transparent effort. I had had a long day and I was tired, but even so I should have known better. But I still say that the discussion about whether the "newbie was bit" got WAY out of hand. He had no intention of trying to learn about how we do things here. Just read the first post Golbez did (now hoplessly smashed to bits), a very long, nice and helping post. The guy started going after him like there was no tomorrow! I will apologise for my first post, but the subsequent ones (where I told him to calm down and read WP:C) where totally justified in my opinion. gkhan July 5, 2005 08:24 (UTC)

Appreciation in order[edit]

Appreciate the info. Thought that a virus had terminated this site. You say that you've been vandalized ? Did you take this matter before a Administrator ? Catch who has been doing this ? I may be new to all of this, but it sounds like you're being attacked by a sockpuppet.

Inputed joke below in your submissions file for these jokes.

POSSIBLE Culprits to Vandalization problems[edit]

I had looked at the history section of your talk page, and I had found two POSSIBLE culprits who may have vandalized you.

The two POSSIBLE culprits are a "Hedley" and a "SPUI"

Hedley's quote found there is:"Stub sorting. You can Help! (Vandalised per request)". SPUI's quote is:"ommug i am so original". I hope this has helped.

I do'nt want to go after innocent people.

I'm NOT accusing anyone at all, just reporting what I've found. Move this to MY talk page as well.Martial Law 20:12, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I REALLY hope that these two are only joking, see the two quotes used AS evidence. Martial Law 20:24, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

profanity/obscenity found in article[edit]

As to its content, I did'nt repeat it, nor am I going to,due to policies held by Wikipedia. I was told to terminate anything of that nature, and if it persisted, to report it. The other user and I do NOT know who inserted the obscene material. What is the policies concearning obscene material, especially if I or another user were to encounter it ?Martial Law 04:01, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Some of my kin are either retired military and/or retired police, and that is "in the blood". Martial Law 03:49, 22 October 2005 (UTC) :)[reply]

ALERT !!!![edit]

In the topic "Okay", examine the word located in the 2nd sentence line, 4th word is referred to here. This may be a Possiblevandalisim attack. I am NOT going to repeat what I had seen here. I HOPE THAT IS ANOTHER JOKE. How do you want to handle this ? Martial Law 04:16, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Did you see THIS ?! Martial Law

I REALLY hope this is a joke or, at worst, a innocent error.Martial Law 04:19, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Two UFO links[edit]

Got two external links on two seperate UFO articles that are RED in color, these are UFO Casebook and Malevolent Alien Abduction Research. How do I make them where these external links may be accessed ? See UFO Casebook and Malevolent Alien Abduction Research. These two articles were created by me when I had a Borg designation, depict two research organizations that conduct research into UFOs and aliens. Both have a list of aliens that people have allegedly encountered, and both lists state that the Grey Aliens are hostile to humans.People report their alien encounters to places like this to AVOID the ridicule and abuse initiated to silence all who have these types of encounters, you know, one guy reports a UFO/alien contact, another says,"Did it say, 'Take me to your leader?' ", or make some obscene reference regarding what the aliens had allegedly done to him.Not only have I seen this in all media, I've seen it personally. I was in Roswell,NM. at the International UFO Museum, when a patron told me how he was treated for reporting a UFO/Animal Mutilation incident. Since this place has protocols regarding obscene, profane matter, I cannot tell you WHAT he said. Martial Law 06:31, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of Borg designations, I need my old designation:"66.112.105.212" terminated, so that a sockpuppeteer can't use it at all.Martial Law 06:08, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A "I" in the "links referral" ?!Martial Law

So, how do i turn a red link into one that is accessable, such as http//:www.earthfiles.com for instance ?Martial Law 05:58, 27 October 2005 (UTC) :)[reply]

Appreciate the info. Obscenity found[edit]

Appreciate the info. I do have a concearn on your "Okay" topic. In the 2nd sentence line, there is a obscenity that rhymes with "truck" in there. Seen it while discussing another topic. Thought you might want to know about this matter. Is THAT another joke that was pulled by friends ?Martial Law 22:41, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your "OKAY" topic line, 2nd sentence, 4th word. It is signed by a Fascist Chicken, is No. 47 in your topics list.

Link tip failed[edit]

Tried what you said on the http//:www.earthfiles.com link. It has failed. Go and input "Earthfiles" into the Wikipedia search area, and see the RED link.Martial Law 23:02, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Chess compo[edit]

Hi, it seems to me the chess compo is stagnating and I think you need to give it a gentle nudge. IMHO, you should declare game 12 for JRM, Jasmine has kind of agreed to it anyway. DE game 1 try to contact them to restart it. If you can't contact them, cancel it at let Jasmine win DE 5 by default and perhaps if only one is still interested get them to play Jasmine. I suppose if DE 1 restarts you could ask Jasmine and JRM to restart 12 if they're interested. You also need to push DE 6 to start, obviously it doesn't matter until 5 is started or decided but in case DE 5 is cancelled it might be wise to start as soon as possible. Other then that, everything seems okay I suppose altho give Game 13 a nudge to start as well perhaps. Nil Einne 13:44, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A "Spirituality" portal[edit]

Hi Gkhan,

Some editors have been discussing the possibility of creating a “Spirituality” portal. What do you think of the idea? RichardRDFtalk 14:46, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I entered some basics to get the ball rolling. I look forward to your participation in the Spirituality WikiProject and reading your contributions to the Spirituality portal. :-) RichardRDFtalk 00:49, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Inquiry[edit]

In your vote against my candidacy you stated that you were a "weak oppose". May I ask why? Kelly Martin (talk) 20:47, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

With regard to my vote against John's candidacy for bureaucracy: I simply did not know him well enough to form an opinion as to whether he was qualified to be a bureaucrat; or, more specifically, whether he understands well enough how to determine consensus in the context of on requests for adminship. I've since come to know John and would now probably support him for that position (were he to be under consideration for that position at this time), but I tend to vote defensively on RfBs because bureaucrats have such an important power. I'm not sure how this relates to Alkivar's first failed RfA, which I opposed because he had a tendency to attack people who voted opposite him in VfD (and then more strongly because he attacked me, and others, for opposing his RfA). What I did in John's RfB was vote against a candidate for bureaucrat whose competency I could not be certain of; what I did in Alkivar's RfA was vote against a candidate who had recently demonstrated that he lacked the temperment for the task. I must admit that I do not understand how there is any connection between these two things, but I hope my response clarifies matters for you nontheless.
Responding to your first paragraph, I would point out that choosing the least objectionable Arbitrators will likely yield an Arbitration Committee that is inoffensive, but it might not yield one that is effective. Having served as an Arbitrator for the past few months, I would say that the source of much of the bile and loathing in the community is the factionalization of the community into interest groups, each pushing its own interests; the bile and loathing arises when two of these factions clash. (This is especially bad with respect to people pushing nationalistic interests, but I've also seen it with respect to religious and other political opinions as well.) My actions were intended to remove something which was facilitating factionalization. My methods were offensive to many, and for that I apologize, but I firmly believe my goals were in furtherance of the best interests of the encyclopedia, and I think after the furor dies down Wikipedia will be better off for it.
