Obamacare

I saw your note on my page. I think threatening me with a block is unwarranted. My intent is not to be disruptive. I am working toward adding factual content based on reliable sources. Whether you agree or not, there are some who compare Obamacare to Hitler's T4 policy. Go online; and you will see the conversations in that regard. I understand that it's not a Wikipedia article's place to validate or support that belief; but I do want to report on the fact that that discourse is out there.

Just to give you a heads up, I will be trying to restore my work. In the meantime, however, I will try to find a better source than the discussion board/blog I was citing earlier. If you do see my continued edits, please note I am up for discussion about the topic.

Fascism

The definition of fascism is out of keeping with existing norms in encyclopedias.

It is always defined as "rightwing."

It is also not a form of nationalism. Even the two citations justifying defining it as "nationalism" do not say that. They say it espouses nationalism. Very different from essentially being nationalism (and nothing else).

All existing encyclopedias define it as "rightwing political movement that was authoritarian, nationalist, xenophobic, etc."

The idea of nationalism can be retained but the essence of fascism is something else--a rightwing political movement that used state terror to impose rightwing values on a community.

Protection template

Hello, I noticed that you fully protected User:Kuyabribri. As the page still has the {{pp-semi-indef}} template, it causes the page to unnecessarily appear in Category:Wikipedia pages with incorrect protection templates. Sheldon Chumir article

Thanks for your advice Orange Mike. I tried to nutrealize the article as you suggested. I agree, it was a bit flowerly. This was caused by probably two things. 1)Sheldon Chumir died in early 90's, as such most of his material are point form fragments that people he has worked with remember fondly. (a better source would be the data of his work with the 10 years he was an MLA), 2) He died with lol internet coverage, or no internet coverage. In this day and age of hash tags and tweets politicians can post. Chumir's work was lost to the sands of post internet politics (meaning. I'm going to have to march down to the Glenbow museum and manually scan these and file them over to the UofC, or something). I could barely find anything on him despite his work. I datamine this information and write descriptively with facts as per the scientific method, and let the reader make up his own mind. This was probably the reason why the orginal author of the article wrote a very non-descriptive article, because he had very little facts (only 3 sources), to go with. (because that's all that exists again... until we dive into that mountain of paperwork. The archieves were only since released in 2003. so this is the problem. Most news articles from wayyyy back machine don't exist anymore, and this is a sad fact of archaeology we lose our artifacts and data to the sands of time. Dust in the wind :_C Tears in the rain... As well, Calgary at the time was a small cities, he lived a remarkable life, but it was short. Thus he gets no grand memorial like say Martin Luthur King a fellow civil rights fighter.

So please understand we're trying to do the best we can with what little we have. (again until someone is brave enough to look the data up). But this man was remarkable, as was ANYONE who advocated to make the world a better place. He spoke about AIDs, when it was emerging, he spoke for the homeless, founded the civil liberties, and his foundation provides free care for the mentally ill. He was very active for ALL human rights. Certainly as the archives open up then we can scientifically express how significant he was. But thanks for your and future editors patience with this and other Canadian politican's pages.

Anyhow, can you please take a look at the page and let me know what you think now. Again it's under construction.... more data will flow in, as I make a more detailed search, and eventually soon the neutrality will be neutralized.... Thanks in advance. Help with Rambus article

Hello Orangemike and others.

An employee of Rambus is attempting to heavily rewrite the article on the company "Rambus", changing the introduction to heavily favor the company. Although you had banned the account "Rambus Marketing", the banned account requested to be renamed to circumvent the ban. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:RambusMarketing

I note that there is an entire paragraph of criticisms regarding patent trolling where Rambus is not even mentioned in the source and the Lawsuits section starts with four paragraphs of unsourced contentious material. Using Wikipedia to promote ones personal views can also be abusive and if an editor has a relationship with the company, such as working for one of the company's Rambus has sued, this is also a COI. In any case, if Rambus is still their client, I know the PR agency that supports them. I'm emailing their CEO now to suggest they tell their client to knock it off. While the sign is on a Guiness warehouse and Guiness certainly prospers from St. Patrick's Day as celebrated in the U.S. and Canada in particular, the motto (or one like it) is widespread wherever those of us of the Irish diaspora are thick upon the ground. Note that the sign with the sentence has no ™ or ® mark upon it, meaning they don't claim the sentiment or its manner of expression is original with them. you're right, he said that--but I'm not sure he intended it in the sense you use, meaning rather that he is the administrator in the program responsible for getting them a WP page. At worst, he's confused the roles of author /editor and administrator. Not done and will not be done The article was not deleted for lack of references and citations, but rather because the subject does not meet our standards of notability for an encyclopedia article. Additionally, it was written in a fulsome and smarmy manner that failed our requirements of neutrality and our prohibition on promotional editing. Bluntly, it read as if it were written by a press agent, or perhaps a doting mother with a business background. Bluford Series Deletion

I appreciate hearing criteria for impartiality, but there is a gray area here. These words HAVE been said by "objective" parties such as the ALA (American Library Association) and the Journal for Adolescent and Adult Literacy (JAAL), and the books have sold over 9 million copies, so there is something to the idea that they are popular! Links to these authorities were in the deleted page. I can edit to address your concerns, but what was on that page is what others--not me--have been saying.

Also, the content of those pages took a while to compile and does not exist anywhere else except on Wikipedia. While I certainly can edit to add reference and more objective or third party language, I would like to get back the content as a baseline from which to start editing. Is that possible?

Hi Mike, I hope to find you well. We have never gotten an opportunity to meet, and I am sure we would be able to speak under great terms. I write because you made an interesting comment that I would like to discuss with you, and shed a few things to light. You said that I should only comment on content and not on contributors. To let you know, I am a very peaceful person, and I am only interested in exploration of knowledge. However, there is an individual that is stalking and harassing me for the past few days. I know you are filled with things to do, but I would appreciate that you can assist me with this matter. I don't care for insignificant online debates that have no real life bearing on things that really matter. Hi-I did some research about Peter H. Engle. Apparently he was born in Pennsylvania in 1808 and died in St. Louis, Missouri in 1844. I got that information from some genealogical information. Okay I checked the Iowa General Assembly's website database on Iowa Past and Present Legislators and the Missouri Secretary of State's website database of Missouri Past and Present Legislators about the possibility of Peter H. "Species in Defiance" deletion

I request that you undo the deletion for "Species in Defiance" - the page needed an overhaul due to Original Research/Synthesis concerns, but due to events beyond my control I was Away from Wiki for a few weeks (semester started up) and unable to work on it.

Did it fail a Notability test?

As for the citation issues, we'd removed most of the Facebook/Tumblr posts, and the plan was to ask some of the production staff to repost the needed info in a blog (they have been fairly interactive with taking fan Q&A) so we were in the process of removing the Facebook/Tumblr stuff.

Separately, I am baffled at why a Youtube citation is inappropriate....when it was the official Youtube channel of the TV series, was a publicly released promotional video, and featured appearances by the writers and development team themselves.

I am also confused why you said that Facebook/Tumblr/Youtube sources were "at best" primary sources, I don't know what the rules on that are.

At any rate, we were getting rid of the Facebook/Tumblr stuff, and I don't know why an officially released YouTube video is not a good citation.

The Original Research/Synthesis was another problem entirely. Yes, there were some concerns on this; but I repeatedly asked that...those criticizing these elements in the article, those complaining about Original Research, point out or list exactly what was Original Research and what was not. Indeed, without a list, have any actually proven that the level or amount of Original Research was so great as to warrant deletion? It needs some refinement, but refinement can't take place if it's deleted.

I've been away from wiki for nearly a month, I knew there was a deletion discussion, but events were beyond my control. If the article is undeleted.

If nothing else, as mentioned on the deletion page, some felt that it would be better to shift it to a sub-wiki on Defiance; in which case I wasn't able to save a backup copy and need brief access to the original so I can transwiki it. I've been very open for years that I am a member, but I would like to help work on the article here, according to the Wikipedia guidelines. Another editor keeps reverting edits and making false accusations of vandalism saying that a listing of user ratings on IMDb and user ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and a Wordpress blog are reliable sources, when they are not. Blogs and IMDb are not reliable sources.

The section that keeps being reverted where the Wordpress blog is supposedly listed as a reliable source is this:

Specialist review site NordicFantasy praised the uniqueness of the film and said it "manages to seamlessly blend a crime mystery with a triller in a fantasy wrapping. Thale does things that fantasy movies almost never do."

I suspect, though I could be wrong, that this Wordpress blog belongs to the editor who keeps reverting these edits.

The section that also keeps being added back about Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb user ratings is this:

Rottentomatoes is less positive. Six out of 11 critics gave the movie a positive review (55% on the 'Tomatometer'). The audience on that website was even less positive; the movie has a 31% approval rating based on 1258 user ratings. IMDB rates the movie unfavorably as well, with a score of 5,4/10 based on votes from 2264 users.

Please correct me if I am wrong if these are in fact reliable sources, since it seems to me they are clearly not going by Wikipedia.

For a bit of context, the account Jdzarlino (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) was blocked by you (Orangemike) for spamming back in 2011. He came back as Kiwanis2015 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), once again trying to promote his favorite neologism. He's been rather problematic in his new incarnation, just because he's extremely difficult to communicate with. I don't know if it's a language barrier thing, or just a lack of understanding of how Wikipedia works, or a very...distinct...worldview, or some combination thereof, but he's heading for a plain WP:CIR block under the new account.

He doesn't seem to grasp how to participate in talk page discussions; I tried to engage with him at User talk:Kiwanis2015#Brending, but it was just getting too bizarre and too badly mangled. He also seems not to get the distinction between article (and user) pages and their corresponding talk pages. His edit summaries are rather curious. Hi. I noticed this userpage: User:North8000. Please can you either answer my questions on my talk page, or would you or another Admin. have a look if any action is required. I thought that very few editors could maintain more than one username and account not run by a bot. Even if someone adopts a new username should they not sign their own work?! Curious why you would strongly recommend against having a new editor starting up "under my wing" having a user name similar to mine. I was viewing it as a public indicator of such, including "shouting from the rooftops" full disclosure that they may be someone who is somewhat influence-able by me. Thanks to OM for clearing up the reason! I wouldn't make a flat-out sock-puppet accusation until I ask a trustworthy editor/Admin. first. Then, if something is awry, let the trustworthy designee Admin. take it from there. I met Mike the only other time I had a confrontation with someone I'd met decades before, and no longer speak of him. Best to try to be kind and "nip it in the bud" if problems do exist. Mike was very helpful- it's how we met. Whenever I ask for his help, he never fails to disappoint!

Back to begging for help! I recently uploaded photos but didn't notice the watermarks on them in advance. They include nearly all band photos for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and most of the photos on each of the four members' individual articles. Would someone help, or does anyone know who can remove some watermarks from some top-grade photos I placed on their articles?! Yet another issue needing Admin help..

Howdy. I have two problems for you.. the first has to do with watermarks on photos (I hope). Lately I haven't been too well, and maybe that's the reason I have not scrutinized the photos I upload as often as before, or maybe because I've uploaded more than about 2,000 photos separately... Almost every photo on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young band article, as well as the articles for each member of that group have watermarks that need to be removed. Can you, or do you know of an individual editor who can removed the watermarks? It is embarrassing that I don't know how to do so, and am sick, and know nothing of computers!

Worse, I uploaded both photos of Brian Robertson, which also both have watermarks needing removal. Worse than that, in looking at that article history, I found a user who used an IP address and who left a message that they "quit" after being under-appreciated. One answer on the talk page, also using an IP address discussed what a shame it was and extolled his virtues. Then another IP address pops up, etc. All use one or two sentences tops, and it appears to be a series of the same person. I lost the thread, and must get back into bed to avoid another hospital stay, but should I find it, I hope you are a proper person with whom to report it. (stalking) As long as the licence is a compatible one with ours, anyone is free to crop the watermark out and upload a new version without needing to ask the uploader. The only conditions are you continue to give them credit, but the file's history does that for you. However, Robbo lives near a friend of mine and has been known to turn up to jam nights, so she might actually have some photos of him. I'll see what I can do. I noticed on the Kokomo, Indiana page you removed several listings under the festival subsection due to them being "non notable". What is your definition of a "Notable Festival"? I agree with you about the fact that many festivals while notable to local residents are not really well known. My question is more about who decides what is notable. Having lived in Kokomo for 33 years I can atest that The Howard County 4-H fair is more notable than Koko Mah. Why leave one and not the other. Who sets the criteria for what is notable? As I said, I was uncertain about Koko Mah so left it, because it seemed more distinctive; another editor has purged it as well. I've got country roots: I understand that every town of Kokomo's size has 4-H exhibitions; but frankly they are not distinctive in any way, however much folks may look forward to them locally. The Dane County county fair does not make Madison distinctive; Wiscon, by contrast, has a global reputation, and does make Madison stand out culturally. I apologize if I did something erroneous. Prior to posting this note to user:Orangemike, I made an inquiry regarding an outstanding issue regarding the same article to user:Mark Arsten - as he had previously been involved in that issue (a Sockpuppet case I had initiated and he had served as the blocking admin on). I did not ask him to comment on the RfC in question, however - my post to his Talk page was a technical request only. Locked out of my account

I'm not entirely sure who to speak to about this... back in the day, I was a frequent editor both here and on Wikiquote who went by the handle Jc-S0CO. I never tied my username to my email address, unfortunately. I started editing less and less frequently, but whenever I popped in, I could always log in because my password was remembered by my computer. I must have cleared my cookies at some point, because now it isn't there when I go to log in. I don't suppose you'd know how I could recover my account (both here and Wikiquote)? Edit-warring with PR rep

Hi Orange. User:Drmies recently asked me to take a look at an AfC on Harold Brierley, written by a PR rep from Ogilvy. The article had previously been deleted as unambiguous advertising and the AfC relied mostly on primary sources, brief mentions, and sources that did not actually say what they were cited for, but with Drmies help, they were able to dig up enough sources for a very short article (I think). I did a lot of cleanup of the low-quality sources and am now edit-warring with the PR rep, user:TylerHayleyOgilvyOne. I don't think you can actually block a disclosed rep for merely edit-warring, or maybe you can, and I haven't had time to look through the edits in-detail, but was wondering if you could help do... something about it. Orange, I am not a PR rep. I am making a small contribution and have been very accommodating with editing my submission per other user's suggestions. We are at a point now where I believe that any further edits ruin the integrity of the information. The information is properly cited now with solid sources. There has been a lot of clean up. This bio has come a long way and the matter is really only over a couple of sentences that establish time, others involved and chronology. Thanks, they have stopped edit-warring at least, so I can go back to working on something else until they start a proper discussion on Talk. Hey, btw, there is another PR rep from Ogilvy at User:HOgilvy who has actually been very patient regarding the article on Matthew Bryden, which currently contains a lot of contentious material using mediocre sources. Despite some mild concessions from Drmies, I felt there was mostly consensus that the article was over-politicized, editorialized and generally not fair to the article-subject.

However, there is an editor with a strong opinion against the secession of Somoliland, which Bryden supports, who - in my opinion - is engaging in persistent counter-consensus editing that unfairly damages the article-subject's reputation. He has even gone so far as to accuse Kiethbob and myself of secretly operating an organized conspiracy funded by Bell Pottinger to whitewash the article. I don't really know what to do about it at this point, because I don't have the same time/interest as the POV pusher, who has essentially won through persistence. You recently said I was a valuable editor in my COI capacity, which caught me off-guard, since I consider you to be one of the most adamant anti-COI editors. Qnet NPOV and General Improvement

Hey Orangemike, thanks for posting on my talk page. I've been meaning to message you because it seems that you've been on the project for a while now. So, with Qnet, I feel like the article does not meet wp:NPOV standards. I thought that by introducing RYTHM it might balance it out, especially because there were a few secondary sources to back it up. I do still feel it deserves mention at least, if not its own section. Yes many corporations use these charities for PR, but there are dozens of wikipedia pages which have philanthropy sections, or at least charitable activities sections. But I understand that just adding sections alone won't fix the problem. So, in the name of fairness, and of creating an article that will rise above its current C-class rating, do you at least agree that the article as a whole is not-neutral? If you do agree to this, I feel like we can come to some consensus on how to make this a more readable and neutral article. Isn't that our job as editors? I think we can come up with something we both can be happy with. If not, well, I'm open to hearing your side in full. Looking forward to your thoughts. I warned Mr. Liccardo and his campaign staff that Wikipedia was not to be used as a cut and paste for their campaign rhetoric. I gave them the benefit of a doubt by editing the page and leaving in the factual information concerning career employment, educational background and even political offices held. They then proceeded to cut and paste with exact formatting his policy positions as it resides on his campaign website. With that I asked for your help and you decided to delete the page. The GA article is presently not sufficiently on the orthodox side since two-thirds of it is on Hick and could probably stand to be trimmed or even shortened about him. I have presented an alternative version of the article, and I believe it would be appropriate for me to update it as one with industry expertise and one who has done extensive scholarly research to create a proposed new draft that is much easier to read. Surprisingly, I am the one who contends a "Criticism" section belongs in this article, while CorporateM would confusingly divide this up among many headings. I do not seek to minimize criticism. Yes, you'll need to reply to this - specifically why this one article qualifies for A7 and not the rest of the forecast office articles, when this one is arguably the most notable of them all. Also, having been an article for a long time, never been tagged or deleted, an AfD or PROD would have been much more appropriate and polite to the creator, instead of a deletion that is clearly not uncontroversial. ~Charmlet ^-talk- 20:54, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

The MacArthur Fellowship opens with the phrase "Genius Grant" and "exceptional merit and promise for continued and enhanced creative work" as well? Awards are meant to have some element of fulsomeness. The second, the word distinguished does have meaning in the world of public service, namely the Distinguished Presidential Rank Awards https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_Rank_Awards#Distinguished_Executive in which even Wikipedia has a subsection on Distinguished Executives? Maybe a better part of valor would have been an AfB or PROD instead? I do agree that the user may have poorly chosen their username associated with the article, but at least they weren't being covert about their identity which they could have done instead? Thanks for that block. I had reported this on 17 August, but the response by Daniel Case was "Not a blatant violation of the username policy. It might have had something to do with the children's game and the user might not even be aware of the corporation's existence (I wasn't until about a month ago)".

We don't know if user Duckduckgo has a connection to DuckDuckGo. He/she won't say. I pointedly asked. In fact, Duckduckgo keeps deleting discussion on their talk page, including my explanation of the unfortunate events surrounding their good faith name change request.

Yes, it's a "gorram" username, but it is identical to a U.S. corporation. As such, it carries obvious weight, as if the edit is coming from the corporation, to anyone who's ever heard of the corporation. It's not allowed, plain as day in WP:Usernames. We don't do that. Conjecture about possible reasons for the choice of the name, such as in the response by Daniel Case are of no use. There's no actual user named User:Jim Beam or User:Jimbeam, right? Hi Mike. I'm giving some thought to unblocking this user. I declined a UTRS ticket from him purely because he'd failed to suggest a new username; now that he's done so (it still implies that he works for the company, but it meets WP:ISU) I can't see a good reason not to lift the block. There's no evidence in his edits of any promotion of the Canadian Sugar Institute, and whilst some of the edits may have been a bit problematic, they look to me like genuine attempts to improve the encyclopedia. My concern is not so much the name as it is the edits, which were taking the straight white-sugar-industry party line on what treatments are used on sugar to make it white and why they aren't "really" bleaching. I realise the issue with the editing, but I think that's something that should be addressed through discussion - whilst it's easy to see it as whitewashing, from this chap's perspective he's adding more detailed explanations to the articles. If I unblock him, I reckon it might be wise to include a condition that he use proposed edits on talkpages for sugar-related pages, at least for a few months. Most of his edits were to support the bogus assertion that bleaching which does not use one or two specific chemicals should not be called "bleaching" (apparently because the industry finds that people don't like to be reminded that their sugar was bleached). I am not sure where to report this but I have been getting potientail service disruptions on the English wikipedia and the Simple Wikipedia, the errors are as follows:

Simply looking at the book and thinking, "Hey, the whole Demosthenes/Locke thing is a lot like modern blogging," isn't sufficient; it constitutes original research. If somebody has published a claim in a suitable source that specifically says Ender's Game described blogging, then we can use it, but to make the claim based only on your personal reading of the book isn't enough for Wikipedia. Richard M. Smith redirect overwrite

Your overwrite of the Richard M. Smith redirect in September 2012 resulted some accidental inbound linking. The Newsweek, School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University, and Benjamin Drake Wright pages wound up linking to the nineteenth century representative, rather than the modern editor and journalist :-)

These incorrect links were easily fixed using the What Links Here tool, [[12]]. Also the article on Benjamin Drake Wright's work makes me wonder if Newsweek's introduction of their "Best High Schools in America" ranking perhaps was influenced by Mr. Smith's time with Dr. Wright. I was completely unaware of Dr. Wright's work and this quick fixup taught me quite a few neat things.

I also added a line and citation to Richard M. Smith's article about his service as the Chairman of the Committee on Railways in 1856.

The "multiple issues" tag was placed on the WisCon page back in 2010. Last spring, I and several other editors (including yourself) put a lot of effort into cleaning up the page, adding appropriate data and citations, etc.. Mike, regarding your edit to the Grafton page, about the Nazi group... Several years ago, we agreed to remove the references from the page. We had heard from someone who was there. His parents owned the place, IIRC. He said there was no Nazi activity there. Additionally, the article you cite is not clear as to the location of the camp it refers to. Due to the sensitivity of the subject and the inconclusiveness of the historical record, editors agreed not to report these facts. It is not even present in the related article: Grafton (town), Wisconsin. Seems to me that something about German Americans owning a piece of land used casually for German-American parties and picnics, the land occasionally used by Nazis for speeches and to practice parading, should be in the article. This parcel of land once called Camp Hindenburg is just south of Grafton at a bend in the river. It has been in the news quite a few times: 1939, 1940, 1940, 1942, 1943, 1943, 1943, 1944, and 1993. I hadn't seen those links to the earlier article. All I had seen until now were a couple of articles that didn't conclusively tie the Bund to the camp. So... yes, "a third party denying what we have from reliable sources is not how Wikipedia works," but eyewitness accounts that don't disagree with the published record can help us decide how to write our articles. I see now that there's more to it.

So the question is now, do you really feel this is important enough to add to the article? Is this newsworthy? Is this an important part of our history? I suppose it is, if you're very interested in Nazi history. Do we really need to include every aspect of the town's history? Today the parcel, Grafton Dells River Park, is listed as 622 Green Bay Road, Cedarburg, but it is much, much closer to Grafton than Cedarburg, just a stone's throw from the south border of Grafton, in what appears to be unincorporated county land. Nothing else is closer to the parcel than Grafton. Back in the 1930s and '40s, people from Grafton went there for picnics and such; it is only one mile (walking distance) from Grafton post office. It's part of the historical record. I'm sure the people of Leith, North Dakota and Roswell, New Mexico can sympathize. Arbor Brewing Company

Hi Organgemike. I came across this company because they seem to have been chosen (according to an edit by another editor) or at least to have been in the running to occupy the NRHP listed firehouse in Fenton, Michigan. They have been in business since 1995 and also seem to opening a brewery in India, which has gotten some coverage, and to have received some (moslty local) but also some regional recognition as an outstanding brew pub. They have two locations in Michigan. Would you consider moving whatever was there to my userspace so i can have a look at it? I am not an admin so I can't see what was there and I am not questioning your speedy deletion, but I think I may be able to work it up into something worth keeping. I was surprised to notice both the "edit"/"edit source" buttons and the gold lock on Jessica Nigri, since I'm not an admin.
