Reply to Gospel music suggestion

I would also suggest mentioning Thomas A. Dorsey in the history section. Mr. Dorsey is often refered to as the Father of Gospel Music and is credited with coining the term "gospel" as a reference to this type of music. I was surprised that he wasn't mentioned in the article. Optimistmb (talk) 22:57, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Map-making

Greetings! I noticed that you had posted a message to User:Arkyan about map-making; as I am also making maps, I hope you don't mind if I comment. I use MapServer to do it -- specifically, the PHP MapScript module that comes with it (though there are also modules for Perl, Python, et cetera). The software is open-source. It allows one to take shape data from various sources, even if the sources use varying projections, and produce a single layered map in whatever projection you want, and in one of several formats (including PNG and SVG). Suggested Edits to Villa Rica article

Hi Michael. I appreciate all of the work you do in maintaining the article on Villa Rica. Although I no longer live in Villa Rica I am a native of Villa Rica, a graduate of Villa Rica High, and proud to call Villa Rica my hometown. In fact Mary Anderson was my fifth grade teacher. I have been interested in Villa Rica's history since I was a child.

I would like to suggest a couple of edits to the history section of the article. One is I contend that Villa Rica has been called Villa Rica since its founding in 1826. The earliest maps of the area - this one is from 1839- [[1]]clearly shows the community was called Villa Rica long before the community was relocated to the railroad in the 1880s. Census records from the time also indicate the community was named Villa Rica. The original town was centered at what is now the intersection of Pumpkintown Road and Dallas Highway. The orginal city cemetery is there in fact. The orginal First Baptist Church was still standing (albeit in ruins) there when I was a child.

I have seen handwritten documents from the 1850s where Villa Rica church became a member of the Tallapoosa Baptist Association. Again, it would not have been called Villa Rica Baptist church then had the community not been called Villa Rica. (By the way, there is no mention of a Hixtown Baptist Church ever being a member of that association.)

The other edit I would like to suggest is to designate the present campus of the Revolve Student ministry of the Church at Mirror Lake as one of Villa Rica's historic sites. Before the Church at Mirror Lake bought this building it was the home of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church. This church was the first church west of the Chattahoochee River in Georgia. In May 1832 this was the site of the organizational meeting of the Tallapoosa Baptist Association. This was the first baptost organization west of the Chattahoochee River in Georgia. Orginal members included what are now the First Baptist Churches of Carrollton, Marietta, and Powder Springs. The Tallapoosa Association spun off numerous other associations including the Carrollton Baptist Association, Noonday Baptist Association, Floyd County Baptist Association, Polk-Haralson Baptist Association, and the former Concord Baptist Association. The Tallapoosa Association merged with the Concord Association to form the West Metro Baptist Association. I believe this place is of tremendous historical importance due to the tremendous impact it had on the religious life of western Georgia. As you will see, there is a large cemetery behind that campus where many prominent Villa Ricans were buried before Hillcrest Cemetery was established.

location / pics of round barn

Pic by Optimistmb, is this the right place?

Hi, Optimistmb, I was just adding to the stub article on Dorough Round Barn and Farm, and I used Google maps' satellite view to find what I thought was the round barn, which I found on Hickory Level Road. Google's satellite view indicates it is 2016 imagery. At coordinates: 33.701235°N 84.968505°W / 33.701235; -84.968505 (Dorough Round Barn and Farm).

But then I come across your photo, which is used at the Carroll County list-article on NRHP-registered places, showing it demolished. What do think is correct? Could these be two different round barns? The NRHP nomination document mentions 4 existing in Georgia. Could you perhaps please comment at Talk:Dorough Round Barn and Farm?
