Recent Changes Patrol[edit]

Welcome, Oleaster, and thanks for your efforts at RC Patrol! I noticed that you are manually Undoing bad edits which presents two problems 1) it's tedious and 2) using the Undo function only reverts the very last edit, so that if the vandal left two or more consecutive edits the others will remain.

I suggest that to get started with RC Patrol, get an anti-vandal tool here. My personal favorite is the User:Lupin/Anti-vandal tool, a powerful tool which shows recent IP edits in a feed. Also, in your Preferences page, enable "Twinkle" under your Gadgets. Twinkle will allow you to quickly leave the vandal a warning and to report repeat offenders.

Thanks for the tips. Thusfar I've been manually checking the vandals' contributions to see if they made multiple edits to the articles, which should catch most of it, though I image I missed a few. I've wanted to pick up Twinkle, but it seems I'll have to wait until I'm autoconfirmed to use it :). On Kazakh lang entry[edit]

Hey, Oleaster,

I've removed the entry in question simply because of its factual incorrectness. Being a native Kazakh speaker, I can attest to the inaccuracy of that entry. My inexperience with editing Wiki-articles prevented me from expounding upon my rationale for removal. As the entry lacked any adequate sources, and clearly contradicted my practical knowledge of the language, I thought it best to delete it, lest it import erroneous information to the reader unacquainted with Kazakh. As I don't have any grammar books currently at hand, being in the UK and all, I can't redraft it. You're quite welcome to remove the information yourself if you feel it's inaccurate. Because articles on Wikipedia are commonly vandalized by people removing information without a good reason, it's not always easy to tell the difference between legitimate deletions and vandalism. October 2014[edit]

Hello Oleaster. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1), or content (CSD A3), moments after they are created. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. The template states that pages nominated under CSD A1 or A3 should definitely not be tagged as patrolled, but WP:NPPLOG, which it links to, states that they should. I find that to be somewhat confusing, but I'll refrain from marking these pages as patrolled for now. As for the timing, are there any nominations that you object to, specifically? The policy urges caution, and I may well have been too eager, but I can't think of a page I tagged that could plausibly have turned into something not covered under CSD. Just a note that you shouldn't be too hasty in tagging pages for speedy deletion. WP:NPPNICE holds that speedy deletion tags should be added 10 to 15 minutes after the article is created. Regards. KJ^Discuss? 02:05, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Oleaster: It seems clear the user in question (134.71.214.11) believes comments like "She is super Jewy" are appropriate for Wikipedia.
