Jerrias vowel system

To answer your question on the phonology, yes all of it, including the vowels, are sourced using Liddicoat (1994) Fdom5997 (talk) 17:20, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello, thank you for the clarification! I think Mari Jones (and also Spence) may be better source to use here, as the vowels and orthographic examples seem a bit off to me. For example, 'â' is definitely a long back vowel and 'ê' is [e:] not [ɛː]. Likewise, I am sure Jèrriais does not use the [ɥ], or at least I have never heard anyone use it. I don't have my Jèrriais books with me, so I would need to consult with such before making any definitive changes.

This does not surprise me much to be honest. Martin Neudorfl, a respected scholar of the Norman language, has told me that Liddicoat is not a very reliable source. Apparently Liddicoat never actually did much on-ground research and his work on Sercquiais has little do with what the language actually sounds like. From my own experiences and study of the Jèrriais language, I will have to concur with this assessment based upon the odd explanations given by the Liddicoat source cited.
