Thanks for pointing this particular user out. I agree that 3 hours isn't enough. However, it is a shared-ip address, meaning that other legitimate editors use it, so it will have to do for now. Not sure why you sound so offended about a small edit that left most of your addition, and just trimmed it a bit. Are you sure you're not confusing me with somebody else? - DavidWBrooks 21:29, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

You're right: I did remove the entire edit, not just part of it (my error). I put an explanation in the "Edit summary" box when I made the change - did you see that? Geocaching is already a long, cumbersome article, so we want to keep peripheral material to a minimum, and the history of a different pastime (which is available on that pastime's article, of course) doesn't make the cut, it seems to me. - DavidWBrooks 10:32, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Mark - I'll place this answer on both talk pages in case you miss it. Given what is now on your talk page you will probably understand that it is not just my view that these links constitute spam as far as Wiki is concerned. A problem you have is that while you continue to only add external links from an IP address rather than an account you will be seen as placing spam by almost any editor. If you want to get an account and join Wiki and contribute your knowledge - fine, if you continue to place links they will probably get removed (and you might find you IP address blocked). -- Nigel 07:45, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Well thanks you for getting back to me Mark. The question that occurs to me (other than why you don't get an account) is are you interesting in people learning more about the Cape Verde area or in bringing people to your website? I'm sure you have a great deal of knowledge about the area so to get an account and put useful information into the pages concerned would be good. However otherwise any number of editors on Wiki will merely take the links out again - I guess it's your choice. It would be good if you would sign your posts to talk pages to - it is quite simple -

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also push the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you!

Eastern Mediterranean University

I added that the Eastern Mediterranean University is situated in the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, because the readers will assume that the university is situated in the legally recognized Republic of Cyprus. Regina

What I have added to wikipedia concerning the entry Regina, is completely factual and intended to assist the reader. It is a fact that the city Regina rhymes with "vagina". This is a common mistake for people talking about our city, and the clarification is useful to the reader. Hi, there are some types of vandalism (including hate speech) that get less warnings than others. The user did many vandal edits in a short period of time with misleading edit summaries, which pretty much guarantees that (s)he's here for just vandalism. Judging by the edit summary here, I'd say you've found a bug. This is the first instance I've seen of this occuring, and my apologies for the programme breaking. I'll do some debugging and see if I can resolve the problem. My current concern is that it allowed you to edit without logging in to wikipedia [2], which means that there are 2 bugs I'll be working on today :P, Thanks for trying it out, even if it didn't work. One less bug for you - I did login but maybe not before I tried clicking. I do have this habit of trying things out first and then .... (RTFM is an alien concept to me!). I'm actually at work (wispering) so I may not get to try it much today but I'll hope to over the next couple of days. Is it very tied to IE (if you have time to answer if not fine)? Ok, after a bug report and a discussion on the MWT mailing list (As well as the IRC channel), we've been unable to replicate it, but we've traced it down to a certain subroutine in the programme, which can be avoided using the following method (if you're still interested)

• Open up Internet Explorer
• Go to Wikipedia
• Log in, ticking the "remember me" check box
• Close Internet Explorer (finally)
• Open MWT, it *should* now add your name to the list, properly now that you can be sure you're logged in. - it should now be working :D

No promise that it will work, but hopefully it will. If it is of interest to you, the bug report can be found here, and as of yet this is the only solution that we can find that does not require editing the programme. Michael Billington (talk • contribs) 11:54, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

I can't understand, I never added commercial links, but what's wrong with private websites? Searching wikipedia, you can find lots of private websites and even weblogs ! in external links or even at refs ! no matter it's private or anything, the usefulness is important I think. If wiki have a goal to became the best so let make it best by correcting harassing situations together, one thing harassing is that things like Internet, Newspapers, TV channels, etc. have been invented to make people of the world closer to eachother; but! look what's going on! I know wikipedia's law very well but until when these strict laws must make us farther and farther from eachother! for example, all the Americans think that Iranians are zombies !

If... I linked a website, be sure it wasn't for advertising or something like that; Persian beside French is the second-most popular language among bloggers, so I can easily asked 10 of my favourite bloggers to advertise my website and BANG! 1000 vists per day ! seems great ? but this's not what I want, this's not what which should happen. I repeat again, I've never broken any laws; but if you do think that my links may cause any problem so delete them, I won't insisting on them; but never say me my feelings and my way of thinking are incorrect ...

Well, thank you... All I noticed is that there was a Vandal Edit war going on, and I managed to catch something, well, not so nice. It might be because of your use of Vandal Proof. The error we're getting is a VB runtime error, which is how pre-.NET versions of Visual Basic deal with untrapped errors. If I had a good look at the source code, I could probably figure out what is causing the error, and modify the code to trap/fix it. I'm a little busy at the moment (as is Michael, presumably), but if I find time, I'll see what I can do. I suspect it may be Internet Explorer-related (I'm assuming it uses the IE WebBrowser control, in which case the pages are rendered using IE regardless of what browser is set as the default) – what version of Internet Explorer do you have? If I do find anything, I'll leave Michael a message, and he can upload a new version – Gurch 16:23, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. IE is 6.0.2800.xpsp2 tho I don't recall looking at that (or it) in ages. Opera for me was good but using wiki more Firefox becomes choice. Hmmm, in that case it may be something else. I have the beta version of IE7 installed (though I use Firefox normally), which I thought may have broken something. But since you have the same problem, that's evidently not it. We're both using Windows XP Pro, but I can't think of any reason why that should affect MWT. Thanks for the heads-up. FYI the notice the original creator kept deleting was for a proposed deletion not an AfD, and there's nothing technically wrong with removing one of them. Your advice is very useful, I might seem strange that I kept deleting it, not because I was ignoring the advice. I made corrections, then I delete the advice thinking that the editing was done. Again, there is a whole category in Wikipedia dedicating to Unites states Law firms, then the whole category is doom to be delete if my page is the problem.

If the deletion is because of my user name, which i chose after I decided to write the article, then all I am at fault is for being honest and not trying to cheat the system. Then I don't think I should be reprehended for honesty.

I would sincerely ask the editors and administrators to reconsider deleting my page.

SIM lock

You removed the External link I added to SIM lock. I think you thought I was advertising the web page or something. I wasn't. I have been trying to unlock my phone and it took me a while but I found this site, which works and is FREE. Check it out. When I started trying to unlock my phonr the first place I looked was Wikipedia but ther was no external links to the article. It would have saved me a lot of time if this link had been ther when I started. (I do understand you objection to commercial sites hijacking Wikipedia articles)--Trounce 11:23, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I can't do anything, but yeah they've a register form which takes your information, but if you think I've get something in iloveahvaz to spy on anybody or something like that ! Link on "Desolation Row"

Before you accuse people of adding commercial links or private websites, you might want to actually look at them. The wikipedia story on Desolation row stated in the tag at the top "This article or section does not cite its references or sources. You can help Wikipedia by introducing appropriate citations."

I happened to have come across an article on the Minnesota Public Radio website (a subsidiary of NPR) which also suggests the link between Dylan's song and the lynching in Duluth, Minnesota.
