Orphaned non-free image (Image:Erie flag.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Erie flag.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. An important letter

Dear roads editor,

You may have noticed some changes at WP:USRD lately. Some of them, like the cleanup templates and the stub templates, have been astounding and great. Unfortunately, others have been disturbing.

This has become evidenced by the departure of a few prominent editors at USRD, a few RFC's, and much fighting among USRD editors.

After the second RFC, many of us found the opportunity to take a step away from Wikipedia for a while--as a self-imposed wikibreak, or possibly on vacation.

The result of such introspection was that many of us were placing ourselves in a "walled garden" and on a self-imposed pedestal of authority over the roads department. Also, we were being hostile to a few users who were not agreeing with us.

In fact, IRC has been the main incarnation of this "walled garden." Decisions have been made there to conduct grudges and prejudices against a few valued USRD users with poor justification.

For this, we have come to apologize. We have come to ask your forgiveness.

In addition to this, we hope to work as one USRD team from now on and to encourage cooperation instead of the promotion of interests.

All users are welcome to collaborate on IRC, the newsletter, or anywhere else at USRD.

In the future, please feel free to approach us about any issues you may have.

Regards,

Ordinal mayors

I noticed you numbered the mayors of Erie. It's a good idea, although I've not come across a source that tells me conclusively that all of the mayors are included. I'm going to give Depinit and Saltsman three-year terms and be done with the question marks. They were my biggest concern. I guess we can go ordinal. I'd be more comfortable, though, if the local government had a definitive list from which we could confirm ours. Have you seen a list on display, or a gallery of paintings, etc, at city hall? I've not seen a comprehensive list at the library or online. Have you seen my new Lake Erie Basin page? I've been all watersheds all the time for the past week or so. School is starting, though, so back to the grind.--Pat 05:33, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Presque Isle State Park map

I added the PennDOT map back in to Presque Isle State Park as an inline reference. All 120 Pennsylvania state park articles have such maps, as well as other common features. I do plan to add them to all the county articles eventually too. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:52, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

  • No problemo, thanks for all your work on the article! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:22, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
    • I think it is close to good article quality. You might want to look at Worlds End State Park, which is the only PA state park article that is currently GA (the List of Pennsylvania state parks is a featured list). I would try spreading the images around a bit (there are too many together at first, then the rest of the article has none) and work on switching to inline citations. There is also a website in "External links" listed as the official park website that is not from the PA DCNR (so it is not the official website, which is ref 1). It could probably be cited as a source, but I am not sure it meets WP:EL. Hope this helps, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:14, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:Nashville mta logo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Nashville mta logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:26, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

We had a few urgent matters to communicate to you:

  1. Please update your information at Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Participants, our new centralized participant list. Those who have not done so by October 20th will be removed.
  2. There are important discussions taking place at WT:USRD relating to whether WP:USRD, WP:HWY, or the state projects should hold the "power" in the roads projects.

Kinzua

The Kinzua Bridge article looks really good. How about, DYK...that Kinzua Bridge in Pennsylvania at Kinzua Bridge State Park was the world's largest and tallest railroad bridge at the time of its construction in 1882? This hook might be a little too long. Ruhrfisch always has good ideas for DYK. I would suggest running it by him. Dincher 21:56, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

  • Sounds good - I made two copyedits to the verion above (remove ' and add ?). Here is a slightly shorter version: DYK...that Pennsylvania's Kinzua Bridge was the world's largest and tallest railroad bridge when it was built in 1882 and now its ruins are a state park? Pick whichever you think better and good luck, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:13, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
    • No, the state park was established in 1970, long before it fell. How about: DYK...that Pennsylvania's Kinzua Bridge was the world's largest and tallest railroad bridge when built in 1882, became a state park in 1970, and was knocked down by a tornado in 2003? I think that was the year? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:46, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
      • I think that the final DYK suggestion is the best. Very good. Dincher 04:16, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
        • The DCNR page says the park was opened in 1970 (not 1980), so I will change the list date (and changed it above and in the nomination). I added a bit about the park to the bridge article as all things mentioned in the hook must be in the article. I also played with the pictures a bit. Good luck on the DYK nom and thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:29, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
          • Woohoo! Congrats on the DYK and the coveted first slot too! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:54, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
          • Congrats! Dincher 21:09, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Mayors et al

Thanks for the heads up on the mayors and burgesses merger. I've lost most of my Wiki battles to preserve detail. I'm wondering if people want Wiki to represent their worldview and not attempt to place people back in history. Airport and former airlines are excellent examples of what I mean. Try to find out which airports Eastern Airlines served, or which former airlines served a particular airport. Look at the history of Erie Intl Airport's page to see how quickly any evidence of Delta's former service there was removed. We only want to know today's airports, something you can find on any airport website. We've systematically removed all historical information about the relative size and reach of airports, abandoning a Wiki rich in history for Wiki Yellow Pages. It's maddening to me. I offered my two cents on the mayors, but I'll be content however it turns out. --Pat 23:18, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I guess I'm a hopeless inclusionist in a world of deletionists. --Pat 04:36, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
