Dear Nancy

You deleted my entry 'Flexitricity' on the basis of coprighted materials. i am the copyright owner and followed instructions including sending an email to confirm this and adding a tag at the bottom of my submission. Can you please explain further as to why the item was deleted ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gary Swandells (talkcontribs) 13:58, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi Gary, there was nothing on the article or the corresponding talk page to indicate that any copyright release was in progress, but now looking at your contributions I can see the problem - you had put it on your own talk page rather than that of the article. Kind regards, Nancy talk 14:09, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

M apologies for not following procedure, this is a new experience. Are you able to republish or do I need to do this from my end ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gary Swandells (talkcontribs) 14:11, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

You could post the material again but to be honest I would expect that it would be probably be removed as promotional - obviously there is a great difference between the tone and language used in an encyclopaedic article and that which is appropriate on a company's own website. You could try re-writing it in a more encyclopaedic style although a general rule of thumb is that you should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability - all edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability. If the achievements, etc. of your company, are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about it sooner or later. Kind regards, Nancy talk 14:18, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

deletion of persons named sperry

Hi Nancy when researching "Sperry" I found serveral contributors to society so I added what I have been able to contribute to society. My book "What Gravity "IS" via Einsteins Space Time ... " available on Amazon has a steady volume of sales for the last year so persons are interested in it.

Please help me understand why "Stefan Tony Sperry" is not relative to key phrase "Sperry" Thank you Stefan Tony Sperry —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sunlover32 (talkcontribs) 04:34, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

I've done some digging and I am guessing that you are referring to this edit when an editor removed your name from a disambiguation page. The reason they did this was in the edit summary which contained a link to MOS:DABRL. MOS:DABRL is our specific manual of style section about redlinks in disambiguation pages and explains why we do not keep redlinks for non-notable people, in essence it says that if the article is unlikely to ever exist or would be deleted if it was created, then the entry should be removed. Sorry if it sounds a bit rude to call you non-notable but I am using the term in a Wikipedia context and if you look at our rather strict guidelines for the notability of authors you will see why I do so. Hope this helps to explain, kind regards, Nancy talk 08:48, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi Shahadat. Popping in as Nancy is busy. The page only consisted of a link to a website and an info box with little content. Basically, you need to read WP:CSD#A7 and also WP:NOTLINK. Articles need to be about notable subjects and contain encyclopedic content - not just "see www.whatever.com". I'd recommend you read WP:YFA and start the article in a sandbox like this one. Then you can develop the article and thus mitigate the risk of it getting deleted. Hope that helps. Pedro :  Chat  20:10, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Could you please choose a country to contribute with? Please take a look on Yekaterina Gamova, Hélia Souza, Serena Ortolani and Kenia Carcaces for a model to follow. Please can you please improve some volleyball players with infobox and some addons? References are very important. Let me know. Oscar987 23:10, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

A copy of the original text

Nancy,

I appreciate the work you put into your guidelines and criteria for articles. Could you get me a copy of the article I wrote with the username Str82u entitled "County Jail Inmate Search"? My original text was over the top, overenthusiastic, "Unambiguous advertising (G11)". If I remember correctly, there were basic guidlines written for finding counties by abbreviation which still apply and are the actual methods used to compile that website, so it's a proven method. The site is in post production now and the format is the same with addresses and phone numbers along with weblinks. Writing an article about doing an inmate search or finding a county jail is going to involve the website somehow, but it can be done in a non gratuitious, non advertising manner. The brief time between then and now has also taught us a few more tricks and lessons that can be explained.

Thank you for taking the time to look for that. If it's not available, please let me know to start over or if you think I should anyhow. I'm going to follow the suggestion to write/edit the article using "Special:MyPage/County jail inmate search" and would really appreciate if I can contact you for approval or suggestions before trying to present it for formal approval. There's no reason to BS you, I do want to promote that site even if it's just as a reference, there's allot of honest work in there. The purpose was and is to serve the users, to get them where I promised to take them, so I could use your help if it's available.

Please Undelete Student Advantage

Hello! I think I made a mistake in my original creation of this article. I thought that I was writing it in a draft format, and that I was free to make more changes before it would be eligable for review/deletion by administrators and others. I know that the article that has been deleted did not meet the proper criteria (and was thus rightfully deleted) but I believe that is because I was not finished. I would greatly appreciate it if you were able to undelete my article and send it to my page so that I can continue to work on it. I would also be very greatful if you could explain to me how I can save my information on my wikipedia page while I am still editing so this problem does not occur again. That being said, I do understand that if after I edit and my page is still not qualified, it will have to be deleted. I would really appreciate your help with this matter. Thank you so much! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Students Save! (talkcontribs) 13:47, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Fair use images in userspace

Please replace the HDL logo image you deleted. I'm building up a page describing the company and logos of companies are deemed as fair use. I don't want to upload it myself as you said you would consider that vandalism. Your page seems more helpful then everyone else's I've dealt with. So far, in attempting to create this one page I've had three different admins delete things and two have told me they wouldn't undelete them. I'm trying to work within the rules here but it's very frustrating as no one will discuss the situation and just point me to rules I don't think apply to the content I'm trying to build up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ctwise (talkcontribs) 15:35, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Nancy,

I am Yv Corbeil. I own www.yv-chris.com. I tried to create YvChris page on wiki english. I form an advertising team with Christophe Berlandi. We are notable because we do PCF (french communist party) campaigns. You deleted my page before I had time to fully insert references such as :

Le POST (newspaper) http://www.lepost.fr/article/2010/04/29/2053039_la-campagne-provoc-du-parti-communiste-sur-les-retraites.html Liberation (newspaper) http://www.liberation.fr/politiques/0101632771-retraites-le-pcf-affiche-ses-positions 20 minutes (newspaper) http://www.20minutes.fr/article/401183/France-Le-PCF-se-saigne-pour-creer-un-buzz-autour-de-la-reforme-des-retraites.php

where our campaign and our names are cited. We also appeared on french BFM TV. We also got media attention at the latest Fête de L'humanité (French popular music festival) always in regards of our work.

We also appear often in specialized medias such as www.strategies.fr direct : http://www.strategies.fr/recherche/ www.cbnews.com direct : http://www.cbnews.fr/recherche?filtre=all&keywords=yv+corbeil&chp=articles-videos-shortlist-all

we have been in advertising for over 9 years now. OUr work get notice in the public. I humbly believe we, as a creative team, deserve to be in wikipedia and that our page is notable.

Hi Yvchris, the page was deleted as a copyright violation. In order for copyright material to be used on Wikipedia it has to be released under very particular sorts of copyrights. You will also need to prove your identity as obviously anyone could log on to this site, paste a load of copyvio material and claim to be the copyright holder.
One simple way to grant permission to copy material already on line is to put that permission explicitly on the site where that material is posted. This is commonly known as a "copyleft" notice. This notice must state that your site (or portions of your site) are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA) and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts) or that it is in the public domain. For text, a good statement of release might read, "The text of this website (or page, if you are specifically releasing one section) is available for modification and reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License and the GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts)."
If you would like to allow Wikipedia to use your content, but don't want to put a license statement on the site (note that you still must release it under those free licenses), you can contact [email protected]. See here for an example permissions granting email. For text, after sending the email, place {{OTRS pending}} on the article's discussion page. Someone will reply to your email, indicating whether the content and your license is acceptable and update the page to indicate that the confirmation of the license has been received.
However, there are three things that you should consider first:
  1. Are you happy to release your copyright in such a manner?
  2. Is the released material actually suitable for use on Wikipedia?
  3. Does YvChris really meet the general notability requirements for companies?
Further,as a general rule of thumb editors are usually discouraged from writing articles about themselves. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability - all edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability. If your achievements are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about it sooner or later. Hi there Yhon4. Please see User:Nancy/Why?. Best, Nancy talk 07:55, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

No, this topic is not covered at Blanchard, Bailey, and Lawrence theory. The creation of the article is meant to address the very paraphilia that is not described by BBL taxonomy. BBL taxonomy is a (highly controversial) way of differentiating transsexual women by sexual orientation. The mere presence of autogynephilia (a man's tendency toward sexual arousal at the thought or image of himself as a woman) does not imply that the person's behavior must be viewed in this way, primarily (but not solely) because a person need not be trans in order to experience it. The paraphilia exists separately from this trio's controversial views about it, just as Autoandrophilia does. The term exists in the DSM, not solely in BBL's Big Book O' Ideas. Please reverse. Riverstones (talk) 11:16, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

I think it best that you should discuss this at Talk:Blanchard, Bailey, and Lawrence theory - that is the appropriate venue to seek agreement for any reversal of the merge agreed at Talk:Autogynephilia. Kind regards, Nancy talk 16:24, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Notability

I wrote an article about Thomas Angus Morrison. He was Minister of the Church of Scotland for over 40 years, built a church, was also Provincial Grand Master for Dunbartonshire for 20 years - unusual for anyone who isn't royalty in the UK. It was the first in a series of contributions I was looking to add on to Wikipedia. I wasn't looking to promote myself,or my band or other examples frowned on. The information is historically accurate, it was original work, so no issues on copywrite.

There is an entry in Wikipedia making reference to St Mary's Kirk. Does the builder not warrant a write up? There is an entry about a fictional character Nancy Blackett

Nancy Blackett From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaJump to: navigation, search This article is about the fictional character. For the sailing cutter named after the character, see Nancy Blackett (cutter). Nancy Blackett is a fictional child character in nine of the twelve juvenile novels in Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons series. She is a bit of a tomboy—acting as captain of the dinghy, Amazon and usually directing her friends in their various adventures. Nancy apparently has no real-world counterpart as an inspirational source for Ransome but appears to be completely the author's creation. Nancy is sometimes critically viewed as a subversive character for girl readers, suggesting an alternative choice to feminine domesticity, and one commentator obliquely hinted Nancy would have fulfilled a lesbian destiny. The character appeared in a 1963 BBC television adaptation of Swallows and Amazons as well as in a 1974 film adaptation of the book.

Have I misunderstood the purpose of Wikipedia - to share knowledge of real people and events? It seems greater respect given to a fictional character!

Douglas Stuart 86.164.82.189 (talk) 22:05, 20 September 2010 (UTC) [email protected]

That's not quite the purpose of Wikipedia - i.e. it is not an indiscriminate collection of information & we do have inclusion criteria which define what is and is not notable enough to be included. We also have policies around the use of original research which I think is also relevant in this instance. Possibily the best place for you to start would be to have a read of the Five Pillars of Wikipedia which will give you a really good grounding in the basics of what we do and how we do it. Kindest regards, Nancy talk 17:50, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

No I hadn't seen the challenge - my effort was prompted by the AFD of Maud (wherry) which reminded me that after Albion (wherry) which was one of the first articles I ever created, I had meant to do Hathor but had never got around to it. Hey there Nancy,

Hope you doing well.

Just as I was editing the professional gamer's page, I went to save it and realized that it had been deleted by you.

After a comment from an Admin already, I edited the player information to make it more in-date, and also edited the references to make them more reliable.

However, the page was still deleted, please can you tell me why.

Thanks, much appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MLG Players (talkcontribs) 18:21, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

If we're talking about the page you wrote full of made-up claims of "lifetime achievement awards" about a 15 year old boy who in reality (well, according to his own bio on MGLPro) is "...currently studying Business, Graphic Design and Physical Education at Sunbury Manor, and I am looking to either go into video game design or a general graphic designer. Outside of gaming, I enjoy going out with my mates, and playing rugby, something that I have done for over 6 years now." then I think the answer should be pretty obvious. Edit wars

Hi Nancy! could you please take a look at this editor Diodecimus. Having reverted a couple of edits by him today that has created ambiguated wikilinks from disambiguated ones on the and also noted his propensity for edit warring on his talk page, I thought it best to have his activities reviewed by a non involved admin. I do not want tolet things carry on and have another long term build up to a 'LarkinToad2010' style series of problems. Richard Harvey (talk) 08:31, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Larkin 25

I have made some changes to the Larkin 25 article. I want to agf but I am concerned about an editor who recently came off a block for problems regarding this article, user:LarkinToad2010. I know you are really busy, and please don't construe this as a request for preferential treatment or page protection...but could you please (or could you refer me to an admin who is willing to) keep an eye on the article just to make sure history does not repeat itself. Since this article is prone to edit warring I have set up a place for (hopefully) civil discussion about the newest version and any changes on the article's talk page. Was there any political motivation towards your deleting one of the most theatrically important protests of the war, the Smoketown Six. The artistic merit of that bit of street theatre, combined with the absolute denial of their rights of free speech when a swarm of law enforcement "hid" them from Bush, merits mention. It is now nowhere to be found on Wiki. I get your explanation, but I think that would have to come from someone who doesn't get it. Was disappointed not to find any mention for my daughter, as she writes a paper on war protesting re: iraq. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.94.164.242 (talk) 00:43, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

No there was not. You might want to check out our inclusion criteria, particularly our general notability guidelines which might help you understand what we use to judge the merits of a topic. Kind regards. Nancy talk 18:47, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Heads up

Hi Nancy! You may recall your message left on the talkpage of LarkinToad2010 here:- [Block Evasion]. I therefore call your attention to his continued use of Sockpuppets , even though his initial block has ended, which are getting noticed for continued vandalism and disruption; IE:- User talk:109.153.243.76. See this talkpage section for comments, where he uses two socks today. Richard Harvey (talk) 12:07, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Hmmmmm. This is a difficult one Richard. As LT2010 is no longer blocked then there is no block evasion and and he is perfectly within his rights to edit logged out - he even self-identifies as LT on occassion so it's not even covert. The multiple IPs are down to his ISP (BT) issuing dynamic addresses so with every browsing session he could pick up a different one from his pool. Blocking is also difficult with dynamic IPs the only real option is a range block which could affect perfectly innocent editors whose only crime is to be with the same ISP & in the same geographical location as LT.
In the circumstances the best that we can do is keep a watchful eye and revert as necessary. If a particular article is being disrupted by him then semi-protection will do the trick - as happened at Theresa May where he was repeatedly inserting irrelevant trivia against consensus. If it gets completely out of hand then we might need to look at a range block but that really would be a remedy of last resort. Sorry I can't give you a more helpful answer. Benjamin Cyrus Benjamin_Cyrus

Hi I´m sorry to disturb you , but you have unfortunately deleted my article about Benjamin Cyrus. He isn´t very popular but at least so popular that i thought his fans want to have a page where everything is written about him.You deleted my page because of it (Article about a real person, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject (CSD A7)).I read it and i still don´t know why you deleted it. It took me a very long time to write it and it cost me a very long time to find all the informations about him.So please tell me why did you deleted it , i really want to know it so i can fix the problem and create it again but better. I created the last page just a few minutes and i wanted to fix it , but when i came back to fix it it was already deleted. It would be really great if you could undo the deleting of this article , because i unfortunately lost all my informations about him. It would take me more than a half year to get the informations again. I had the old page ( www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Sych Benjamin_Sych )made but with his unknown name , but i could´nt fix the title so i cut and pasted it into his real article which is Benjamin Cyrus. All informations i got are true and Benjamin Cyrus even thanked me for that XD. (youtube.com/user/ben1992zone) I would be grateful if you could somehow undo it so that i can fix it. Greetings Girly1988 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Girly1988 (talkcontribs) 16:55, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Girly1988. The reason that your page was deleted was because it didn't show why Benjamin might be notable - see WP:BIO for what we mean by notable. It talked about films he has made and how he did some volunteering but there was no indication that he really is a global teen superstar - & if he was I'd guess he'd have more than 14 subscriptions and 7 friends on youtube. The time to create a Wikipedia page about Ben is when he really has hit the big time and then I am sure there will be many people queuing up to add to it but for now I'm afraid that he is just not notable enough.
Btw I think you are mistaken about the page being deleted after only a few minutes, most of it had somehow survived since October.
Kind regards and good luck with your future editing. Nancy talk 17:39, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

CSD for Gerardo Huidobro

Greetings Nancy. Thanks for your message. My reason for proposing SD was that the chap is a junior athlete and I didn't consider that notable enough, however many medals he'd won. My son's junior rugby team are long-standing national champions and have also won international competitions and it wouldn't occur to me to create an article on them, conflict of interest notwithstandin'. Please note, I'm not questioning your decision, just explaining my criteria. Cheers! --Technopat (talk) 18:38, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Technopat, I'd agree with you that he's of borderline notability and at AFD I would probably vote delete, however the bar for speedy is oh so much lower and I think I would have been wrong to delete as A7 especially as Google threw up so much. Best, Nancy talk 18:44, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Yep, I've seen some pretty noteworthy academics and scientists get AFD - tho' to be fair, the vast majority of the ones I've been involved in have actually managed to scrape through. I don't suppose the mindless stats exist, but it would be interesting to see how many second-rate sportspeople have articles at Wikipedia in comparison to second-level academics :) But that's for you admins to worry about - I can afford to put my foot in it occasionally. Thanks for being out there. Cheers! --Technopat (talk) 19:06, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

LarkinToad

Hi Nancy, sorry to bring up this character again! Could you please take a look at the last section of the Philip Larkin Talk Page. If you check his edit history there today you will see he made several uncivil unsigned comments, which he removed when another editor ID'd him, with his own LarkinToad2010 login, plus another as an anon IP. He removed part of a message I had placed, inserting his unsigned comments mid text. I have reverted his deletions and moved his comments to the end of the message and ID'd his messages individually. The Anon IP he used was also used to leave a 'hidden message on one of my talkpage archives, presumably so I would not see it. That same Anon 86.166.65.123 is the one he used on the Theresa May Talk Page where you have warned him about bad faith edits, disruptive editing etc. Would this activity constitute enough of an issue to have a Checkuser investigation and possibly instigate a rangeblock? Especially in light of his prior and current history in the various Philip Larkin based articles. Incidentally he has blanked his Talk Page of all the warnings and your block evasion message and the tags noting his prior identity as WilberforceHope, which he used to extensively edit Theresa May, along with his numerous socks, and disrupt the Kingston Upon Hull article. Richard Harvey (talk) 01:28, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Richard. I have left an extended comment and final warning on his talk, where amusingly he makes reference to a fresh start; as far as I can see there is nothing fresh about it. We'll see if he takes heed & if he doesn't I'll just have to dust off the old block button. Best, 06:44, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Since I left this message he has made it clear at Talk:Theresa May that he has no intention of changing his ways so I have indef blocked the LarkinToad2010 account and put 4 week blocks on his three most recently used IPs. Shame it had to come to this but some people just won't hear what is being said to them. Kind regards, Nancy talk 10:33, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Hi Nancy, thank's for that. It's unfortunate he does not want to contribute in a useful manner. I had noted your temp blocks on some of his socks. Would it be worthwhile me moving those you have identified and blocked from his Suspected sock list to his Confirmed sock list? Richard Harvey (talk) 10:46, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Wouldn't harm. He's comfirmed through his edits that they are one and the same. Nancy talk 10:50, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Done! His Confirmed sock list is quite large and checking through them they appear to be static IP's that are only used by him, rather than dynamic ones used by several editors. If he comes on again as an anon it will probably be through those addresses. Richard Harvey (talk) 12:20, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

External links

Hello Nancy, I noticed that you removed a number of external links to Ordnance Survey and Google maps, I can understand why you did that as they just led to a map of Britain. The reason why I used Ordnance Survey was to find out what civil parish the hamlet was in, which is also quite tricky as the boundries are not very clear. Can you suggest a clearer and more reliable way to find out what civil parish a hamlet is in. Also thankyou for dealing with my coppy-vios, as writing in my own words is not one of my strong points, when I was at school I used to coppy and paste a lot. Also all the articles and redirects, I'm not sure that they are harmful at all, and I would also be grateful if you could suggest an argument to keep them as they are buildings in a small hamlet, which I would have thought are useful. Thankyou for your time. Crouch, Swale talk to me My contribs 09:15, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Crouch. As I mentioned on your talk page, the problem with using maps for information is that they are subject to your personal interpretation, and as you say it isn't particularly clear on the maps anyway. On Wikipedia we call that Original research and we avoid it at all times. If you need to find out and/or reference what parish a settlement is in then the best (and most reliable) source is to use the website of the local authority. Most Council websites have "Council and Democracy" section which contains all the information about its constituent districts, parishes and wards. In the case of Round Maple it would be Suffolk County Council which hosts the information for Edwardstone Parish Council. The golden rule is that whatever you reference it must be in words not in pictures, and of course must be from a reliable source.
I can't really help with suggesting redirect arguments. I think that if you start to view Wikipedia as a global resource which does not just cover Suffolk but actually covers every single settlement in the whole world you might begin to see that having a redirect for every single one of the billions of dwellings within those millions of settlements is not practical or helpful to say nothing of the disambiguation problems - do a google for "Little Thatch" and see how many there are just in Suffolk (of which at least two are listed), let alone the UK & the rest of the world - hundreds. The way we have decided to deal with this as a community is to limit ourselves to only creating redirects for notable buildings which are likely to be search terms and even within that limited scope there are still problems with disambiguation.
Hope this helps, kind regards, Nancy talk 10:33, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Please reconsider deletion

Dear Nancy, I recently uploaded an article regarding an event that is soon to be held, which apparently got deleted being categorized as 'promotional'. However, I request you to reconsider your decision and undo deletion as the purpose of the article was not to promote but provide knowledge about the event. In our country, this event is an important one, and not many people know about it. The purpose to put it on wikipedia was to make information available for all those people who seek to know what exactly this event is about as naturally, wikipedia turns out to be a primary source of information for many. I considered the need for that article to be listed particularly, because earlier, I myself needed to know what DICE was all about and could find no source to explain. I do agree that maybe, the write-up was not so much in accordance to requirements of wikipedia, but that can be fixed. Thereby, please review the article and reconsider. Awaiting a positive response from you. Regards, Asma Javed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asmajaved90 (talkcontribs) 17:39, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Question about Al-Akhaa Al-Ahli Aley nomination for deletion

Nancy, thank you for giving this article your attention. I guess what concerned me about it is the fact that there are no references, other that the organization belongs to the Lebanese Premier League. The Lebanese Premier League is itself a largely unreferenced article. The only reliable source on that page is a link to a very short summary on the FIFA homepage. I'm just struggling to find the "beef". If I lived in Lebanon, maybe the significance would be perfectly obvious. Any thoughts? Slayer (talk) 11:01, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

What you must remember is that the bar for speedy deletion is set deliberately high. It may well be that if this article were scrutinised at WP:AFD then the consensus may be to delete but as it stands, the fact that the club is part of the highest division in the Lebanese Football League is enough to protect it from an A7 deletion. Put it another way; if you this was presented to you as a speedy/not speedy question at an Request for Adminship, what response would you expect if you said you'd speedy it? - the WP:RFA test is one I find quite useful when triaging CAT:CSD :) Best, Nancy talk 13:32, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Just to add to what Nancy said, all that is needed to avoid A7 is a claim of importance, not proof. If a claim is made, but its veracity is in doubt, it should be taken to AfD, not tagged for CSD. Best regards -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 16:09, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I've contributed a fair bit to Wikipedia in the past, but today was the first time that I have contributed any biographical articles. You deleted an article that had been posted today entitled Jane Wilson. This was a short, 4 line, non-promotional biography of the chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, outside of the US, probably the largest trade organisation of PR practitioners. It is included in Wikipedia. Jane was profiled in Communicate magazine, a magazine I occassionally write for. It is the UK's leading magazine for corporate communications.

Now, I;ve not written biographical articles for wikipedia before, but I did my homework, and the fact that this person was in charge of such an august body, was cited and referenced in a four page feature in the leading magazine for her profession, and was, ultimately, at the top of her game in her field seems to make her notable.

Please give me guidance here. Because if I've got it wrong, then I wont do any more biographies. But I don't think I can have done. It seems that I ticked all the boxes I needed to. Regards Mathir — Preceding unsigned comment added by MathirJayanadine (talkcontribs) 00:27, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Jane Wilson, please provide clarity

Hello, (resending, as I don't think I signed off) I've contributed a fair bit to Wikipedia in the past, but today was the first time that I have contributed any biographical articles. I put about 8 biographies today. All people who were at the top of the game. People who were, for instance, running comms for FTSE100 firms. All people who have been quoted extensively, and featured in big interviews in trade titles. Please give me guidance here. Because if I've got it wrong, then I wont do any more biographies. But I don't think I can have done. It seems that I ticked all the boxes I needed to Regards Mathir MathirJayanadine (talk) 00:39, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Being CEO of an organisation does not automatically confer notability (by Wikipedia's definition) and coverage would be expected to be widespread in the general (national) media rather than confined to the area that the subject works in. Mentions in a trade rag can be used to cite fact but they are not an indicator of notability in the way that for example a profile article in The Guardian would be. Hope this helps, best, Nancy talk 05:48, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello Nancy, the reason I turned Southey Green into a disambig page, without redirecting Southey Green, South Yorkshire to Southey, South Yorkshire is that Southey Green is not covered in Southey, South Yorkshire at all, so it makes more sense to have a Redlink rather than a redirect, thankyou. Crouch, Swale talk to me My contribs 13:41, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

  1. Did it not occur to you that there was a reason that Southey Green had been a redirect to Southey, South Yorkshire for the past 18 months?
  2. If your reasoning is correct then why create a DAB page at all as your contention is there is nothing to disambiguate. (and no, I am not suggesting that you overwrite Southey Green with the Essex "hamlet")Nancy talk 13:47, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
The idea was that Southey Green, South Yorkshire would stay as a redlink untill someone created it, rather than a redirect to an article, where the subject is not covered. Crouch, Swale talk to me My contribs 14:23, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
You are, not for the first time, entirely missing the point. Southey Green was a longstanding redirect to Southey, South Yorkshire but your actions meant that that association was completely lost and people clicking on Southey Green in Sheffield articles were instead of helpfully being taken to the Southey article were left with a redlink and no way of getting to Southey, South Yorkshire. Can you explain to me how that was a positive contribution to the encyclopaedia or in anyway useful to our readers? Btw, Southey Green is a neighbourhood of Southey as the most perfunctory research would have told you. Nancy talk 11:17, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Stripper (band) page deletion.

hi, nancy! happy holidays to you. i was just reading about the stripper page deletion, and i was wondering if you could let me know what criteria is missing from this page as far as notability goes. i didn't want to re-submit a page without further fleshing it out if need be, and i wasn't sure exactly what to include. i see wikipedia pages for bands at all types of stages in their growth (as long as there is a measurable and notable documentation to such growth, of course), and i feel this band belongs somewhere in there, but riding that line of citing newsworthy details vs. blatant promotion can be confusing, and the stripper page definitely errs on the side of modesty (not that stripper is U2 by any stretch, but there are other notable stats/details to the band that was left out because it seemed the page was significantly rounded). the stripper page has been integrated into so many other areas online where there is a stripper presence that it would be a shame to not somehow find a solution to this (i.e. it's pretty much been where the band directs festivals, promoters and labels to gather their bio info for their respective promotional materials (citing wikipedia, of course...it's what many bands do if, in fact, they feel the page is a good representation of their project...not to mention most people defer to wikipedia for the basic background on anything, really). the stripper page was also pretty well-integrated into many other wikipedia pages of relation, and to lose those easy-to-navigate channels would prevent the band from being part of that endless informational web that wikipedia weaves so well. anyway, please let me know if there's anything that can be done, or, in some wonderful stroke of shared thinking, you agree that the page's omission was, in retrospect, some kind of error. thanks and happy new year, nancy! On the ropes movie

Hi,

I've been informed that you have deleted a page that I submitted. Unfortunately I can't understand why, all I did was create a page for a UK comedy film (www.ontheropes-themovie.com). It certainly wasn't blatant advertisement.

Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielle Kidman (talkcontribs) 14:56, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree, but some of it was. However, the main reason it was deleted was because most of it was a cut and paste copyright violation of the film's website. Anything which you contribute to Wikipedia must be in your own words or from a source with a licence compatible with CC-BY-SA 3.0 and GFDL (properly attributed obviously). Best, Nancy talk 15:02, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Just a note- when you deleted the page Booby Julia, you didn't delete two redirects that depended on that page. Since those redirects no longer go to any page, they can be deleted under G8. To check for those redirects, you can visit a page and go to the "What links here" button on the toolbox to the left part of your screen. --Slon02 (talk) 15:43, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Reconsider deletion of Adriatia

I see that it.wiki deleted the page since the beginning, but for one reason. A troll (or a group of trolls) was operating and was constantly posting the same page (indeed we can read that the reason of deletion was "reiterated insertion"), so they, logically, deleted the page since there was no explanation behind this behaviour. However, the English page is connected with List of Internet phenomena and Internet meme which is used to describe a concept that spreads via the Internet. Adriatia is not like a hoax, but it’s a meme that now is on newspapers and also radio shows (just check the links put as references. It's plenty.) Or check the internet under "Adriazia". This an example of internet phenomenon, so, since the category exists in wikipedia, Adriatia can have the page. The name M.O.N.A. has a double meaning (constituent of the meme itself), but if it's considered vulgar, THAT can be deleted. The page can be properly rearranged, naturally. Thanks for your patience.

FrankieFarang (talk) 15:14, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Well, it is indeed M.O.N.A. a wordplay, but it's part of the meme itself, not a way to mock wikipedia. Btw, what about the sources? They're absolutel... what? They are NEWSPAPERS and RADIOS. Have you checked? LA REPUBBLICA, VENERDI' DI REPUBBLICA, RADIO POPOLARE are national press and broadcast, not school journals.

Eschatos1 (Eschatos1) 20:30, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

No. The article presented Adriatia as a real place, which is clearly is not. Go play somewhere else.Nancy talk 14:19, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
What? this is how the article begins:

Adriatia (in Italian Adriazia) is a fictional country created in September 2010 as a provocative reaction to the Northern League's claims for the independence of Padania, a territory composed of the northern Italy regions. Adriatia corresponds to the Italian Adriatic coast, from Venezia Giulia to Salento, splitting thus the eastern coast of Italy from the rest of the state.

A real place? IT'S CLEARLY STATED THAT IT'S A FICTIONAL COUNTRY. Your reason to delete it doesn't stand at all, so why?

Blues

Just a courtesy call to let you know that per a db-move request from User:JDDJS I have moved The blues back to Blues. The briefness of the move discussion on the talk page would normally have lead me to decline the request but in this instance I felt that in the event that a more protracted discussion was going to occur (not looking especially likely but who can say) the article should be at its original title for the duration. Hope this is OK with you, best wishes for 2011. Nancy talk 10:54, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Trout slap Nancy. That was a breathlessly brief discussion. I wasn't even aware of it. I have opened a new discussion, and informed significant contributors and WikiProjects. SilkTork *YES! 13:07, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Slightly longer though than the absolutely no discussion which preceded the original rename. ;) Best, Nancy talk 13:15, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Swale

Hi Nancy, could you take a look at User:Crouch, Swale contribs for today please. Thanks.--Kudpung (talk) 13:45, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

I've done a bit of clean-up, including closing the Cliburn "peer review", and left (another) note for him at his talk. One thing I mentioned to him was The Test Wiki where he can "experiment" to his heart's content. nancy 10:56, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
He's still creating hamlet pages as fast as he can. I really think this has to be stopped. Nothing personal against him, he thinks for sure that he's editing in GF, but it's all making too much work for us, even just having to write 'delete' on the dozens of AfD and MfD. I'm worried what he's going to think up next. Quite honestly, I really think the only solution to get him to slow down or even stop for a while would be to put him on a short leash for the next seven days - or at least until he takes notice of your messages. :) --Kudpung (talk) 16:31, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Used one of your photos

The photo I was using for Repudre in this article was deleted from Wikimedia. I was thrilled to see that you had one I could use. Did I tell you that we cruised the Briare Canal last June. It was nice, but is certainly not as nice as the Midi. As always, cheers GloverEpp (talk) 01:20, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

HI Glover, good to hear from you again. If you're ever in need of any other C du M related photographs then do give me a shout as I have hundreds that I haven't uploaded. They are mainly of the section east of Trebes to the Med. All the best for 2011 & happy cruising. nancy 11:00, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Arceye (Band)

Could you please tell me the specific reasons why the page Arceye (band) was deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scream Aloud (talkcontribs) 19:35, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

It was deleted because it was an article about a band that did not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability. Kind regards, nancy 20:09, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Deleted Kemo the Blaxican page

I was looking for a short summary of information on this artist/group (?) and it was deleted. Sure, they are obscure, but what criterion decides that they shouldn't be included? It just seems strange to me... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mllorensmwikip (talkcontribs) 21:37, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Gosh that was almost three years ago! See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kemo the Blaxican for a full explanation. nancy 18:40, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Re-adding a page

I'd like to re-add te Andy_Harter page you deleted due to lack of secondary notability sources. I think he is a reasonably notable figure in computing and I have a secondary source of this as well. However I added him back on the Andrew_Harter page and FWIW I think Andy_Harter is more appropriate so I'm going to simply redirect Andrew to Andy. I am supposed to let you know, as I am adding back a similar page to the one that was deleted, only this time with an added source. Janderson99 (talk) 19:03, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

No need to inform me. Good luck with it. Best, nancy 13:24, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Can you please explain why you deleted Scaleby, Cumbria, and said " Please stop doing this", you are starting to treat my edits like they are Vandalism, not constructive edits like they are, thankyou. Crouch, Swale talk to me My contribs 13:12, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

There is a growing consensus that your edits are not constructive as is apparent from your block log and from the comments you have received from many other editors as well as me.
Could you also please do me the courtesy of replying to the question I left on your talk yesterday? nancy 13:16, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
And what about The Old Rectory, Cliburn, that was a very usefull redirect as it is covered in the target. Crouch, Swale talk to me My contribs 13:41, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
I think I explained myself perfectly clearly at the talk page[3]
As you are obviously online, could you please do me the courtesy of replying to the question I left on your talk yesterday? Or would you prefer we open a WP:SPI? nancy 13:51, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm trying to build this encyclopedia, I really don't think It's a good idea you deleting pages I create when they are perfectualy useful pages. I would much appreciate it if you tried to expand the articles I create, not delete them. Thankyou Crouch, Swale talk to me My contribs 14:21, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Again, you have been blocked before for creating similar redirects so you really should know why it is a problem. If you still don't understand then may be another block will be required to stop further disruption. nancy 14:28, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
There is no disruption, I'm a good faith editor, whoes trying to build this encyclopedia. Thankyou. Crouch, Swale talk to me My contribs 14:44, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
I think a perusal of the edit history of your talk page would give the lie to that one. It is an unending catalogue of warnings, block notices and deletion discussion notifications. Whilst it is undeniable that you have created some acceptable content the net result of your presence at the moment is decidedly negative, not least because of the amount of other editors time which is wasted clearing up after you.nancy 15:42, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello Nancy I have had a look at the user named Groton Wood and the article named Groton Wood and the only thing I have noticed is this edit, maby you will have to do a Review on User:Novice7 (talk) as well as they have coppied and paisted text from http://www.suffolkwildlifetrust.org/reserves-and-visitor-centres/groton-wood/, thankyou Crouch, Swale talk to me My contribs 14:05, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

That doesn't really address the possible sockpuppetry issue. I have replied in detail on your talk[4]. Let's try and keep all discussion on this matter over there. nancy 14:25, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

pic permission

Hi Nancy, regarding this deletion discussion that I sadly missed - I asked the up loader the user Christiaan here that commented in the deletion discussion but he failed to reply, do you see any evidence of permission? It is also not a commons compatible licence and I am unsure as to its true status - it clearly says it is copyrighted, so it appears the pic is actually far from commons compatible - I will ask my experienced pic friend about that, my question to you is really, do you see anywhere any evidence for permission? Off2riorob (talk) 16:23, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

I've looked at that deletion discussion & my comments but can't for the life of me fathom where I was coming from! But to your point, no, I can't see any evidence of permission and indeed this, on the website of the photographer strongly suggests that any release would be more than a simple "yeah, fine, so long as you credit me" - celebrity pictures being a professional syndication co. nancy 19:34, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
I do that sometimes, look back and think, was that me.. - Ah, yes I had seen that also, contact me for permission seems pretty clear from the copyright holder but we at wikipedia don't appear to have his permission anywhere, thanks for looking at the claim, I was thinking I was missing something, I have tagged it as missing permission so lets see if any is presented, regards. Chris Montague page

Hi,

You deleted the page for copywrite. But I went back about 20 minutes later totally restructured the content as well as removing a bunch. I also put links to his profile on his organizations website. The final edited was significantly different from the profile referenced. Can I send the final copy to you for approval or something? NunatuKavut has little web presence and Mr. Montague has contributed significantly to the Inuit community and deserves recognition. I will take time to learn much more about proper format for content for any future edits! Thank you so much for your time! Brian — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bthomd (talkcontribs) 15:33, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Your edits did not remove the copyright problem. You had simply changed a few words, paraphrased here and there and deleted some sentences. Anything that you contribute to Wikipedia must be entirely in your own words. Starting with a copy/paste and then editing through it is always going to be problematic as at best you will end up with a derivative work. The best way to approach article writing is to read the sources thoroughly, perhaps taking some notes in your own words and then create an article without looking at the sources as you write. You can then go back and check you have correctly reported the facts and add the appropriate inline references.
WRT to your comment about Mr Montague deserving recognition, this is not how Wikipedia works. People need to have achieved recognition before they get a Wikipedia biography not the other way arounsd - see our inclusion criteria for biographies. If you think that he does meet the criteria then you are welcome to re-create the page - in your own word of course :) - no need for approval. In general it would probably be useful for you to read through some of the links on the welcome message on your talk page. Best of luck, nancy 16:22, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Chris The Russian

I understand why You deleted the page, and I am sorry I did it wrong. I did not intend for it to be an article, but just something that linked to my user page. I was only trying to do what I had been asked my others and make sure the link to my nickname The Russian did not confuse people and take them to the article on the comic book character. I use Contact Wikipedia a lot, and when I ask or answer question I type the four tildes to allow what I have written to be signed, and it signs it as The RussianChristopher Lilly, with a time stamp. So I edited the thing to make it say Chris The Russian, a slightly different link, not directing people to the article on The Russian. Could You tell how to have a link with my nickname the Russian that directs people to my user page ? Thank You. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Christopher1968 (talkcontribs) 07:01, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I did wonder if it was supposed to be a userpage but as you already had one I presumed not. Whatever, I have userfied it to User:Christopher1968/Chris The Russian for you. If you want to create any more pages in your userspace, just prefix them with User:Christopher1968/ Best, nancy 07:07, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank You so much - I appreciate that.[[Chris The Russian Christopher Lilly]] 07:12, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
