Speedy deletion nomination of Barry Karr

Hello NHCLS,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Barry Karr for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Ging287 (talk) 21:30, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick revert. Much appreciated. Dr. Sood's contributions leaving a long trail, I would check up with other editors as well, just the way you suggested. Still, your intervention prompted me to have a second look and it helped a lot. I am also working on the other article you have tagged, Sunil Pradhan. Meanwhile, if you feel the grammar part of Sood article is taken care of, please remove the tag. That would make it look better. Hello NHCLS,

Thanks for patrolling etc. Ernie Yard & for moving the page, (can't believe I missed the lacking capital!). I have added categories, which I was advised, when asking at the Teahouse, not to do for new articles, until they'd been accepted. However, I have a couple of questions. Firstly, the article already contains refs. for name date/place of birth & death & just about everything else is sourced from the neilbrown stats site, I.e. here, which is included in Ext links. It seems unwieldy to repeat the same ref. for each change of club & I've not seen other similar "stubs" (basically only a lead) referenced in that way. Perhaps you could advise what could be done to improve this point? Thanks. Secondly, I note persondata has been deleted, & again I was advised this should habitually be included so wonder if you could clarify for future reference? Thanks. Regards. Eagleash (talk) 20:25, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

  • First, sorry for the delay in my answer. In response to your questions:
  1. Why repeat the same reference for each change in club? I'm not entirely certain what you were asking here, so forgive me if I don't answer that question. The reason I added a refimprove tag to the page was not because of the lack of inline citations (there is a separate tag for that). It was more that the total number of references for the page (the Purkiss & Sands book & the neilbrown web site) is very small (2 references). The tag is there in order to prompt editors to find new references and add them.
  2. Why was the persondata deleted? As for that, I generally just delete persondata, to keep the page clean. I don't actually know if that's good editing practice or not... I didn't pass through the teahouse when I started editing; I pretty much just learned as I went along, essentially improvising... I would suggest consulting another editor (esp. an admin) as regards to that question.

I hope that I have answered your questions. Of course, if you have any other questions or comments feel free to contact me. Merci beaucoup!NHCLS (talk) 18:46, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello again NHCLS
Thanks for replying. (No probs. re time!) I think we are perhaps looking at things from a different perspective. Firstly, by way of explanation, my point re the “unwieldy” refs. was really more to do with in-line citations. Yard’s career details were all sourced from the neilbrown site, (which is something of a “go-to” source for obscure ex-footballers) so to repeat that as an in-line ref would be overdoing it a bit. I see what you mean by the lack of additional refs., but it’s only a stub article, with very brief details, for a bit part player from 50 years ago. Refs. other than Purkiss/Sands/King are probably a bit like hens teeth, & the basic details are referenced/sourced. Sands BTW is the official Crystal Palace F.C. historian and also co-wrote the -2011 book with King but declined credit as author. I will try to find other refs. or links though.
As far as persondata is concerned it says here that these should be added, so if you are deleting them, I guess that might be frowned upon by somebody! :) I’ve already restored them as it happens. Thanks. Regards. Eagleash (talk) 20:33, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the link regarding persondate; I will change my ways! As for the inline citations, I agree with you, I do not see the point in adding inline citations for every little detail; esp. since it's all from the same site. Merci beaucoup! NHCLS (talk) 01:42, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks ofcourse

Thanks for the heads up! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChoiceNZ (talkcontribs) 20:11, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Regarding Empty sections

I'm assuming you mean empty section under general elections? Well I'm adding those sections for a reason. There was an election in 2013 and 2008. And so it'll be easier to add info from those years. Regards Saadkhan12345 (talk) 21:09, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

  • Yes, it would be easier to add information afterwards, but, in the meantime, they just add informationless clutter to the page. And so it would probably be better not to add them until they contain info. Merci beaucoup! NHCLS (talk) 21:14, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Actually...it also keep the information about elections on constituencies the same. If you remove them, info added later on might be different on one constituency than the other. Saadkhan12345 (talk) 21:26, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Could you please clarify your point? From what I understand, you wish for the info across all ridings to be standard. That is a good idea, however, I don't believe that is sufficient reason to include empty sections. (In fact, if you look at other riding pages from other countries, you should find that they are generally not standardised). Merci beaucoup! NHCLS (talk) 21:31, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Exactly. I know its a good idea...thats why i added them. Saadkhan12345 (talk) 21:39, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
It is a good idea, but my point is that good ideas are still only ideas - they do not necessarily make good practice. I believe this is the case here. Merci beaucoup! NHCLS (talk) 22:14, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Hey do you think the following makes good practice
Constituency. I have added "empty sections" under G.e 2013 and 2008. Can you please check them out and give me some feedback as to whether make the other const. like that or remove the entire general election section. (im going to add to those empty sections later -on my to-do list-). Saadkhan12345 (talk) 12:48, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi, although I do prefer not to have any empty sections, adding that tag does constitute good practice (n my opion). HOwever, you might want to check with another editor, just in case... Merci beaucoup! NHCLS (talk) 14:11, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

Page Deletion

Why did you deleted my page bruh?

Hello. I didn't actually delete the page myself (I'm not an admin). However, I did nominate it for speedy deletion. I did this because it has no content. An article needs to have some sort of content for it to actually be an article. (I assume your referring to the David Lauzier page). If you add some good quality content (with reliable sources), there is no reason why the page shouldn't be deleted. Of course, I would be happy to help. (And don't forget to sign your posts!) I replaced the speedy deletion tag on the Mingle2 page, not because I necessarily believe that the page is promotional, but instead because the tag had been removed by an editor with one edit (the removal of the tag). The user in question is Randy043015. I replaced the speedy deletion tag in order that an admin can review the page and decide if it is worth keeping. I hope you understand my reasoning... (And don't forget to sign your posts!) Merci beaucoup! NHCLS (talk) 01:46, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for May 2

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Martin Dannenberg, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page America. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Information icon Hello NHCLS. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1), content (CSD A3),or significance (CSD A7) moments after they are created, as you did at Die Dame (The Lady) Magazine. It's best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

The article Algonquin Students' Association has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

fails WP:GNG. No coverage except primary sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —usernamekiran(talk) 07:26, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Modo Hockey Dam moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Modo Hockey Dam, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Women's Ice Hockey Task Force Newsletter: October 2020

Hello WHOCKEY editors!

The Women's Football/Soccer Task Force uses periodic newsletters to keep its members looped in on task force happenings and adopting the practice may serve useful for WP:WHOCKEY – let’s give it a try! If you have any feedback or ideas regarding the WP:WHOCKEY newsletter, please post on the news talk page. This newsletter is sourced and minimally altered from the WOSO April 2018 newsletter created by our own Hmlarson.

Drawing further inspiration from WP:WOSO, work has begun on a few initiatives that will emphasize making more WHOCKEY links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles. The hope is that the initiatives will make it easier for editors to find the pages and topics of most interest to them.

Initiative pages are currently in the works and will be fully functional by the second week of the month. If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, once the initiatives are up and running, you’ll be able to sign up on an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles. If there is a subject that you feel ought to have an initiative of it’s own, creating your own initiative is welcomed and encouraged.

During the spotlight on diversity, editors are encouraged to celebrate the array of identities represented within the sport by improving or creating bio pages for ice hockey people of various cultures, ethnicities, heritages, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities, and other diverse characteristics.

Next month kicks off the NOV-DEC-JAN spotlight on Collegiate Leagues!

Thanks for your help!

Saw that you added content to the diversity initiative page and wanted to thank you for the help! Since you’ve looked it over, do you feel like the format makes sense and is accessible? I worry that the amount of links and subsections might scare off new editors but I’m not sure how to make it easier to navigate without losing vital information. Do you think collapsible lists would be beneficial for the subsections of each country or am I overthinking this? If you’re interested, I’d love your input and feedback. Either way, thanks for what you have already contributed and a huge thanks for the incredible number of player bios you’ve been turning out – you’re really making an impact and it’s wonderful to see all the red links turning blue. Cheers, – Spitzmauskc (talk) 20:03, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

  • Collapsable subsections might make sense, yeah. You could also always add a message at the top of the page saying something along the lines of "there's a lot of links, but don't be afraid to just start wherever you want" or what not. And thank you so much for all the work you've been putting in! It's great to have someone leading the charge for the project and for women's hockey on Wikipedia! NHCLS (talk) 18:00, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
I’ll definitely test out some collapsible options. Thanks for the feedback and kind words :) Spitzmauskc (talk) 19:54, 8 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello WOSO editors!

What a year to be alive. As usual (but perhaps even moreso since there have been unexpected quarantines), there has been a lot of activity on player, team, league and tournament-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of women's football / soccer. Great work!

Fall Focus: FA WSL articles

You may have noticed lots of great things going on for the top English league this year: the FA WSL. More (international!) broadcasts, top international player signings, improved media coverage, and increased viewership. Let's keep the momentum brewing, shall we?

Here's a sampling of articles that could use creation, expansion or updating. What will you commit to working on?

Historical Topics

Other

Every little bit helps! Thanks for your contributions!

Spelling

Hello NHCLS. Thank you for your edits and updates in regards to women's hockey. I have noticed you use spelling variations common to British English on Canadian and American team pages. Please note that per MOS:ENGVAR and MOS:SPELLING, we use the language variation common to the sources primarily used for each subject. So in this case, it is fully appropriate to use "honours" in the Toronto Six article, but should be "honors" in the other NWHL teams that are all based in the United States. Furthermore, in this edit, it would be "organize" and "prioritize" in both Canadian (where both versions are fine) and American (only uses -ize) styles. It's not that big of deal, but it does help with maintaining page consistency on a specific subject. Thank you, Yosemiter (talk) 18:03, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Women's Ice Hockey Task Force this month

WHOCKEY Task Force | Mid-November 2020

NOV-DEC-JAN Initiative: Collegiate Leagues!
College leagues are a huge part of women's ice hockey and over the next few months the task force is highlighting the important role these leagues play in the growth of the game. Naturally, the spotlight is on the NCAA Division I, but contributions related to any college league are welcomed – so long as they meet WP:GNG, go wild!

Though there are plenty of new articles to be created, current and former task force members have built up an incredible library of pages for conferences, programs, tournaments, and more, so there are plenty of ways to help – from small updates and cleanup to creating entirely new pages.
Check out the initiative page, where you can add any pages for creation, point out needed updates or additions to existing articles, and help us realize the collaborative power of the task force!

Tori Sullivan

I see that Tori Sullivan is the only remaining Boston Pride player without a published page and you've done most of the work already with your draft. Do you want me to add to that draft and see if we can get it published? Thank you for contributing to all these pages. Puffycoombes — Preceding undated comment added 23:34, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

  • Please go ahead! The more people working on the drafts, the merrier. And thank you for your contributions to Boston Pride-related pages! I'm not a Pride fan, but they're going to be a hell of a team this season. It's going to be great. NHCLS (talk) 10:31, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
  • Thanks. I added career stats, honors, photo and some new links, etc. I'm not sure how to tie it to the wikidata and I think you still need to be the one who publishes it. Puffycoombes — Preceding undated comment added 15:01, 10 January 2021 (UTC)

I was very sorry to see you have moved from active to inactive status with WP:WHOCKEY and I’ve missed seeing your username on my article watchlist and in the new articles section of the task force. Since you’ve blanked your user page, I’d imagine it is unlikely that you’ll see this message but I couldn’t leave without thanking you for all you have done to further women’s hockey coverage on Wikipedia – your contributions have fundamentally changed coverage of ice hockey for the better. I hope you will consider returning to active status if you are ever in a position to do so again. Best wishes and thank you a million times! – Spitzmauskc (talk) 21:46, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Happy Spring WHOCKEY editors!

After more than a year without international women’s ice hockey, we’re finally just a month away from the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship! The IIHF Worlds, in partnership with the Olympic Games, are the most watched annual women’s ice hockey tournaments in the world and spark more interest in the women’s game than any other events. We have a great opportunity to enrich the fan experience by offering up-to-date and informative articles about players, national teams, and other subjects related to the tournament.

The only women's players included in WP:NHOCKEY are players who have competed in the Top Division of the World Championship – meaning a bevy of player bios will get to be created in the next month. Hungary is set to make its Top Division debut and Denmark is returning to the Top Division for the first time since 1992. What an exciting time to be editing!

Articles related to the 2021 Worlds that are in need of creation, updates, or edits are collected at the National Teams & International Tournaments initiative page. Please add to the list if you find something in need of attention so we may collaborate and help one another in the coming weeks.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NHOCKEY (which only includes players on women's national teams at the highest tier of IIHF competition)? Often times there is enough media coverage to meet WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. Be sure to tag the task force on the talk page of new articles with: {{WikiProject Women's sport|icehockey=yes}}
