Line scoring in 1947 Rose Bowl article[edit]

The best place to start with an edict such as replacing Convert or PAT with kick is the Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Style Guide. I see your point with the edits to the 1947 Rose Bowl article. However the original terminology was taken from the UCLA Football media guide. Thanks Much, Group29 (talk) 00:27, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cyrillic rendering of Russian names[edit]

I have noticed that you have deleted Cyrillic names from a few Soviet politicians. Having the names of foreign people in the native scripts is standard in Wiki. It is quite useful as the transliteration rules are quite tricky (check WP:RUS as an example). I have reverted your change. Please do not delete the info again unless you get some consensus on talk pages Alex Bakharev (talk) 04:31, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I want to reiterate the above point of Alex Bakharev. Please stop removing cyrillic spellings of the names of Soviet politicians, like you did here[1][2][3][4][5]. I have reverted your changes. There is a well established practice of including spellings of the names in their native alphabets in biographical Wikipedia articles. They are used by various scripts and also facilitate navigation and searching for sources. Nsk92 (talk) 03:26, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

February 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit that you made to the page Mikhail Gorbachev has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Please use the sandbox for testing any edits; if you believe the edit was constructive, please ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing for further information. Thank you. Bradjamesbrown (talk) 03:07, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE: I cannot believe...[edit]

A few notes:

  1. There is no CEO. It's a foundation.
  2. There is no owner. It's a foundation.
  3. With certain exceptions, the Board of Directors of the Foundation play no part in determining editorial content.
  4. Look up "negligence". Learn what it means. Learn that the Foundation and its directors have absolutely no duty of care to readers, and that no loss is suffered by those readers due to whatever article we choose to display.
  5. It was not a Featured Article, it was a Did You Know article.
  6. Wikipedia is WP:NOTCENSORED.
  7. We aim to be a compendium of all verifiable knowledge. This includes things you might find adolescent. We do not exclude knowledge because some people might find it "adolescent"; we aim to have a system whereby if somebody has something notable they want to look up, they can find it here.
  8. Wikipedia does not cater to the "intellectually earnest", it caters to the public.
  9. Did you read the article, or just the hook? It has no relation to pornography.

Names[edit]

Please do not remove original names from biographies (in their native languages). Maybe they don't show up in your browser, but this would be unusual and would be a local problem. Their English transliterations are often awkward, not widely accepted, or just plain wrong. Materialscientist (talk) 22:34, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please stop removing Russian spelling of their names from biographies of Russian politicians, such as Gorbachev, Putin, Brezhnev etc. Including such spellings is a totally standard Wikipedia convention. Nsk92 (talk) 02:41, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Who are you, and no I will not, because it is substandard referencial and encyclopedic paractice. I own two Encyclopedia Brittanicas and I have read several other editions of both EB and other encyclodepias, and this useless convention appears nowhere.

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Nsk92 (talk) 02:49, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is the final warning you will receive regarding your disruptive edits. If you vandalize Wikipedia again, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Nsk92 (talk) 03:56, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop[edit]

Several editors have explained that the removal cyrillic rendering of Russian names runs counter to Wikipedia convention. I do not want to block you as you have stopped doing this after a final warning. However, you have stated that you will not stop. If you resume this activity, I will block you. Please find something constructive to occupy your time here. Thanks Tiderolls 09:15, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I absolutely agree with this. If you continue to remove names written in other alphabets from articles, you will get blocked. Your opinion on this does not agree with consensus on Wikipedia: see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English), which notes that "The body of each article, preferably in its first paragraph, should list all common names by which its subject is widely known. When the native name is written in a non-Latin alphabet this representation should be included along with Latin alphabet transliteration." Fences&Windows 13:26, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On a related point, I notice you removed the text "Автомат Калашникова Модернизированный [Avtomat Kalashnikova Modernizirovanniy]" from AK-47. I doubt this is an improvement, as AKM is a Russian acronym - I think it would be a good idea to retain the original Russian text.
Wikipedia covers more than just the Anglosphere, and its readers are not just monoglot anglophones. If the subject of an article was named in a foreign language, it is often helpful and informative to show the original name as well as the English transliteration.
bobrayner (talk) 20:38, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looking through your past contributions, it seems that you also removed معركة القصر الكبير from Battle of Ksar El Kebir (and 麻 from Hemp). Are you on a crusade to remove the original names from wikipedia articles?
However, you've toned your language down; whereas before you might call other wikipedians holocaust deniers, now you merely try to remove the "goddam shitass useless stupid Russian language" from articles about Russian people and things; I suppose that's an improvement.
bobrayner (talk)
Just for the benefit of other folk who have expressed concerns about ncdane's behaviour - ncdane posted a response on my talkpage: [7]
There's no need to be so hostile. There really are many people reading wikipedia who can read other languages. If you're not one of them - if you are ignorant of a foreign language - then you are not harmed by the presence of a few letters which you cannot read but which other people might want to read; and you can hardly be surprised that when you choose to read an article about somebody or something foreign, a foreign version of the name is present.
Wikipedia is no place for language chauvinism. "I don't understand it, therefore it must go" is no way to build an encyclopaedia. Few people understand Telomerase reverse transcriptase or Semistable abelian variety, but we let that content stand, because it can benefit the people who do understand it.
It might be a good idea to read Wikipedia's policy on foreign names: "The native spelling of a name should generally be included in the first line of the article, with a transliteration if the Anglicization isn't identical". If this policy offends you, perhaps you should push for a policy change; but in the meantime articles about Russian people are better - and more accurate - with the original Russian name in them.

Blocked[edit]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 31 hours for repeated abuse of editing privileges. You are welcome to make useful contributions after the block expires. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Tiderolls 02:53, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since you have made good your commitment to continue your editing against consensus, I have temporarily blocked you to prevent further disruption. You have been told that the use of non-English names is an accepted Wikipedia convention. I understand that you disagree with this convention. However, instead of approaching editors at the appropriate venue you choose to unilaterally edit against convention. This cannot continue. Tiderolls 02:53, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AN/I notice[edit]

Please stop[edit]

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 72 hours for continuing to delete non-English rendering of names against convention and without discussion.. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Unblock Request[edit]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

blocked for deleted pharsee text in article about person born in US, Canadian and or US citizen, resident North America all his life except for 1-2 years as child. Foreign language text imo therefore uncalled for and edit/delete appropriate

Decline reason:

Wikipedia operates by WP:Consensus. There is no support for your view that the English-language Wikipedia should not contain references in other scripts and languages. You have been warned, and blocked, before for removing them; the present block is a lenient one, and if you continue the next is likely to be indefinite. JohnCD (talk) 11:40, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I don't think that's accurate. You have been blocked for this and this. Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 10:49, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

October 2010[edit]

I have reverted your deletion of non-English content here. This deletion, along with your dedication to drawing the line, make it appear that you continue to resist editing according to established guidelines and convention. Please, if you feel so strongly about the issue, take your concerns to the proper venue. Discussion is the method of change here. Tiderolls 00:30, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have responded to your post on my user talk page. Tiderolls 23:52, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted your edits to this article to restore the images and replace the article name in the info box. Again, if you are dissatisfied with the guidelines as they exist take your concerns to the proper forums. Tiderolls 05:57, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will not warn you again[edit]

I have reverted your edit to Uli Hoeneß has been reverted. Your edit did not follow Wikipedia's accepted guidelines as explained at Wikipedia:Manual of style and elsewhere. You should acquaint yourself with WP:NOTBATTLE as well. If you continue your disruptive editing I will be forced to block your account indefinitely. The concept of consensus has been explained to you many times by many editors. This disruption cannot continue. Please stop. Tiderolls 04:05, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, NCDane. You have new messages at Tide rolls's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Blocked indefinitely[edit]

You've received repeated explanations as to why your continued removal of non-Latin characters from our articles is disruptive and contrary to consensus. It does not appear that any amount of discussion, nor multiple blocks, has dissuaded you from this course of action. To prevent further disruption of our articles I have indefinitely blocked this account.

This is not the time nor the place to argue your basic point as regards whether or not Wikipedia should use diacritics or non-Latin characters. If you wish to argue that in individual cases a Latinised name or title should be used, then the onus is on you to obtain consensus on this position on the article talk page before proceeding (assuming that there is disagreement), not to continually reinstate your preferred text while multiple other editors object.

You are welcome to contest this block on the grounds that you 1) understand what it was for and 2) agree to desist from your disruptive editing.

Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward: not at work) - talk 12:10, 27 December 2010 (UTC) [reply]

For the time being I have unblocked the account as your last edits on the subject were to talk pages. I will not, however, hesitate to reblock if you edit war over this in future on any page. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward: not at work) - talk 12:26, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at User talk:TonyTheTiger. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:14, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would like to remind you not to attack other editors, as you did on User talk:TonyTheTiger. Please comment on the contributions and not the contributors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. You are welcome to rephrase your comment as a civil criticism of the article. Thank you. My76Strat (talk) 04:22, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop removing the name in cyrillic script of Vladimir Vetrov as you have done several times earlier. You have been banned before for such actions. If you continue, you will be reported to the moderators. If you have a problem with scripts other than the latin script, start a discussion to change the policy of the English language wikipedia instead of removing such script from individual articles. - Takeaway (talk) 04:01, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Stop removing text in other scripts than latin script from articles[edit]

Stop removing text written in scripts other than the latin script from articles such as you have done with Vladimir Vetrov, Seljuq dynasty, Irene of Athens and probably countless other articles that I haven't detected. As I have written before, if you have a problem with this, start a discussion on wikipedia policy instead of sneakily removing such script from articles. Also refrain from indiscriminately changing non-English language links in to English language links if that breaks the link to a legitimate article such as you have done to the articles German submarine U-550 and Ilya Muromets. - Takeaway (talk) 07:16, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning. The next time you remove or blank page content or templates from Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. - Takeaway (talk) 07:20, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Font size[edit]

NCDane, the changes to font size that you made at Mike Krzyzewski and NCAA Men's Division I Final Four appearances by coaches are highly irregular and at odds with basic style practices on Wikipedia. If you want to pursue such changes, please discuss them first at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College Basketball or some other appropriate forum. Let me know if you have questions. I'm happy to help. Thanks. Jweiss11 (talk) 15:49, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Warning[edit]

If you write a summary such as the one here (now deleted) again, I will block you. Such behaviour is offensive and totally unacceptable; you should know better. PeterSymonds (talk) 22:32, 19 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since you clearly have no desire to change this attitude towards your editing, I can see you are totally unfit to edit a collaborative project such as Wikipedia. You have been blocked indefinitely. PeterSymonds (talk) 22:45, 19 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
