Discretionary sanctions[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Milo[edit]

Hey there. Just stopping by and perhaps I can be of some help with all the discretionary sanctions things on the Milo Yiannopoulos page. So when GorillaWarfare mentions 1RR she is referring to only being allowed to make 1 revert in a 24 hours period. A revert means undoing partially or fully the edits of another user. For example on that page Calton reverted you and you partially reverted him. For consensus required, that means if an edit you made is reverted you cannot reinsert that edit until you have consensus on the talk page of that article. It can all be a bit of a hassle but if you have any questions feel free to ask me here. I will have this page on my watchlist. PackMecEng (talk) 05:00, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not it looks like I am banned from Wikipedia! All I did was add a couple of new references to an article and then reverted it when someone erased all of my previous work in a single edit. The editor who banned me seemed to say that the two new references I added were fine, so I added them back in. But then I get this message saying that I am banned. I really don't understand what is going on here. Myatrrcc (talk) 05:23, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So what happened was you reinserted material challenged by revision. Which then violated consensus required again and you were blocked for 31 hours. Best bet is when the block is up head over to the talk page and have a discussion with Calton over why he reverted your addition. Looking at his edit summary if I had to guess it was over the quality of sources used. For reference the Gateway Pundint is not considered a strong source. A good cheat sheet to use is WP:RSP, if you look at the section on the Gateway Pundit there is says The Gateway Pundit was deprecated in the 2019 RfC, which showed consensus that the site is unacceptable as a source. It is unreliable for statements of fact, and given to publishing hoax articles and reporting conspiracy theories as fact. I will take a look and see if I can find some better ones. PackMecEng (talk) 05:33, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So I have done some looking around and cannot find reliable sources talking about the book. I see pre-orders[1] and his personal site talks about it but that would not be a good enough source. It looks like it will take some time and the book being released before we can really cover it in the article. Kind of a tricky situation since it appears the book is coming but not widely reported on at the moment. PackMecEng (talk) 06:05, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You are blocked, because you have been repeatedly violating the consensus required restriction on that page, which I explained to you. I would be curious to know where you think I said it was fine to reinstate those edits, or even commented on your sources at all. GorillaWarfare (talk) 05:28, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

February 2020[edit]

To enforce an arbitration decision and for continuing to reintroduce reverted edits without consensus after a clear warning about the "consensus required" restriction, you have been blocked temporarily from editing. You are welcome to edit once the block expires; however, please note that the repetition of similar behavior may result in a longer block or other sanctions.

If you believe this block is unjustified, please read the guide to appealing blocks (specifically this section) before appealing. Place the following on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Please copy my appeal to the [[WP:AE|arbitration enforcement noticeboard]] or [[WP:AN|administrators' noticeboard]]. Your reason here OR place the reason below this template. ~~~~}}. If you intend to appeal on the arbitration enforcement noticeboard I suggest you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template on your talk page so it can be copied over easily. You may also appeal directly to me (by email), before or instead of appealing on your talk page.

Reminder to administrators: In May 2014, ArbCom adopted the following procedure instructing administrators regarding Arbitration Enforcement blocks: "No administrator may modify a sanction placed by another administrator without: (1) the explicit prior affirmative consent of the enforcing administrator; or (2) prior affirmative agreement for the modification at (a) AE or (b) AN or (c) ARCA (see "Important notes" [in the procedure]). Administrators modifying sanctions out of process may at the discretion of the committee be desysopped."
