General references

Plase don't remove the "General references" as you did with J. T. Wise. Collapsed references

You didn't explain in your edit the reason why you collapsed the references. I had spaced them that way to make the wikitext legible, so that editors don't have to wade through a morass of ref info, and can instead skip past the ref tags, which are more easily found with that spacing. I've restored the spacing, but kept your changes (with some modifications, though I'll touch those up too at some point). Mindmatrix 00:49, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

I usually remove excess spaces and collapse references when I see them inserted like that because it adds excess data to the article. I won't begrudge that, but you undid too much. The detail about his callup and debut don't need to be in the lede (but should be in a consistent date format). Doug Drabek should really be in a personal info section, but I won't harp on that as there is no other personal info. However, the minor league baseball category is now inappropriate as he's made his major league debut, and so I'm replacing it with the Blue Jays category. --Muboshgu (talk) 01:00, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

First, my apologies for bombing away parts of your edit - I was trying to avoid that, but goofed anyway (esp. the bits about the category and infobox). Regarding your points - the only reason I merged the bit about his dad to the lede was because there was nothing else in that section (as you surmised), and I did shift the callup info out of the lede in a subsequent edit.

Regarding the ref formatting, is there a standard for this? I typically format them this way because I don't use the standard editing toolbox (or any of the additional ref formatting tools), so the wikitext appears as a jumble to me when there are so many refs. I don't really care how the refs are formatted, so long as I have some way of suppressing or avoiding all that text when I'm editing. Mindmatrix 13:13, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, while doing something like this it would be nice to post a link while you are doing it in the edit summary. As is, I'm sure a consensus at WP:BASEBALL doesn't matter for a hill of beans relative to WP wide policy (see WP:CONSENSUS). But in general, they need to be notable and there shouldn't be many, and probably just hanging out there in a quotes section is a bad idea. Free agency

This year, MLB has changed the way they handle free agency in an effort to speed up the process and not have so many players left in limbo so close to spring training. Part of that is they did away with "declaring" free agency. Borders?

Why did you remove them from the MLB Championships template navboxes? I was extrapolating the usage of borders on the NFL version of them and the Detroit Pistons had them done already on the NBA side, so I was doing this to make stuff uniform across all sports disciplines. Yankees Roster Template and Date

Hi! One of the IP addresses changed the date again, but he changed it to November 7 instead of November 6. Wausau Timbers don't equal Wausau Mets

I have come across at least one instance where you categorized Wausau Mets players as playing for the Timbers. You don't do that, just like with the city of Tacoma, a minor leauge baseball city with multiple team names, gets a category for each. The Tacoma Tugs, Tacoma Yankees, Tacoma Twins, Tacoma Tigers. Salt Lake City is another example. Teams in that city with a category include the Buzz, Bees, Gulls, and Angels.

To straighten this out, I created a separate Wausau Mets category and will edit player article pages to recognize players who played for this team.-William 12:39, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

It is. It's predicting the future. You are predicting who will and will not play where in 2011. We don't know who will be traded, released, non-tendered, suffer a career ending injury in spring training, etc. They can be signed to a team and that can be mentioned in the text, but the infobox is only for teams with which they have played at least one game, and to this point nobody has played a game in the 2011 season. --Muboshgu (talk) 17:00, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Bad Form

See, what I think is "bad form" is everyone I've encountered on Wikipedia defending someone who has stolen photos and is not only passing them off as her own but who is giving everyone permission to use them when they aren't hers.

Every normal route we have taken to get this matter fixed has been rebuffed. Apparently, Wikipedia nor its regular contributors care much about the law, just about protecting each other.

Moves to manager lists

Is there any reason that you undertook changing a lot of stuff with the MLB managers lists? Or was there a discussion somewhere that I missed? — KV5 • Talk • 13:42, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

There wasn't a discussion. I noticed that about half of the franchises had "owner and executive" pages and that they were horribly unstandardized, so I put them in the same format and created them for the franchises that didn't have them. They should either all have them or none should. Then I noticed that some of the manager pages had GM info, and that some of them were at featured list status. At that point I thought about stopping and holding a discussion before moving that info, but I noticed most of the manager pages didn't have any GM info so aiming for standardization, I thought I could move forward and explain my actions later. --Muboshgu (talk) 14:45, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Philadelphia Phillies Opening Day starters template

I was testing it, it seemed okay on Template:New York Yankees Opening Day starting pitchers. Point is it's way too long when it lists each one by year in the template, and I like what you did much better. You can revert back to last names only if you want, doesn't much matter to me. Brian Anderson

Are you sure about changing Anderson's page to outfielder/pitcher. He hasn't pitched a single Major League inning yet so it seems premature to me.. His career to this point has been as an outfielder. #8 for Berra

I'd think Yogi Berra is to be considered a PLAYER who's number was retired, not a player/manager like Billy Martin for example. Yes, he did have the managerial job with the Yankees on two brief stints, but his number was retired exclusively as a catcher. Plus, his second stint hadn't even happened yet at the time the number was being retired in '72. You are right that while Martin was recognized as a player/manager, Berra was recognized predominantly for his playing. You make a good point, but we typically list all relevant positions, even if Berra's two managerial tenures were forgettable. --Muboshgu (talk) 02:12, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

In other words, rather than reverting, you should have taken this issue to the BLP Noticeboard.
