Danish vandal

This situation has gone from WP:(IM)COMPETENCE (no PC update, removal of B-teams in boxes, etc) to downright disgusting behaviour, has inserted several S.L. Benfica players in the squad of a club in whose page they usually "contribute", Boldklubben Frem.

A promise, this is the last time i bother you regarding this punk (i know you operate strictly under WP guidelines, but since no hefty block can be dispensed maybe i stop wasting everybody's time). As of now, my only actions regarding them will be revert, revert, revert. --85.242.133.151 (talk) 19:23, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I though for a while before posting this, because you're an administrator, and the last thing I want to do is antagonise an administrator. In the interest of building an encyclopaedia, I corrected the infobox on the article Callum Robinson after your reversion of the IP's edit. He/she was substantially correct, and I would guess it was their lack of updating the club-update parameter that led you to revert. In view of WP:ROWN (which I appreciate, is an essay, not a rule) it would have been more beneficial to building the encyclopaedia had you fixed rather than reverted. Just my opinion, no offence intended. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 22:34, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Emmerson Boyce

It says on another wikipedia page about him lifting the fa cup. There are also newspapers that mention it such as http://www.wigantoday.net/news/excited-players-forgot-their-medals-1-5664212 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/wigan-athletic/10055609/Wigan-given-FA-Cup-medals-two-days-late.html Sorry for not citing sources, i definitely hadn't meant to have cause a burden. Sluggor (talk) 20:35, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

January 2017

It's not nice tone to throw random vandalism warnings on other people! Don't be rude and don't edit war! Reserve teams in Estonia are competing in the main league system, but they are not independent clubs in their own right. Players from the main club are allowed to play for reserves almost without limits. Which some fans dislike. He was in the roster for the main team while playing for reserves. Klõps (talk) 14:32, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

When people edit in a manner that is not constructive, like when removing cited and notable content from a biography, then there will be consequences. And re reserve teams, why don't we do the same for Spanish and German reserve teams? Because it isn't necessary. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:34, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
Why so rude? I made the article more readable by throwing out useless unsourced trivia and gibberish? It's not nice to attack people throw warnings and rude edit descriptions! Klõps (talk) 14:39, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
I'm not saying all your edits were unconstructive by any means, and assure you I'm not trying to be rude (I'm generally quite blunt). I'm just pointing out where things are unconstructive, like removing valid content and making unnecessary changes to the infobox. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:43, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
What are You talking? You say that my edits weren't unconstructive but were unconstructive :D Your edits were just pecking on silly little things... You gave me warning for saying youth teams instead of pointlessly listing all the teams under-17, under-19, under-21 (these are already listed in the infobox). Whats wrong with discussing things instead of throwing level 3 warning at anybody whose edits You don't like. Take some tea and learn some respect. Klõps (talk) 21:30, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
Except that's not what I warned you for, it was for this edit in which you removed the sourced text "Puri was born in Tartu, Tartu County" without explanation. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:54, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

I found this source (please see here http://www.fuerzaperica.com/poche_y_su_familia-fotos_del_rcd_espanyol-igfpo-5387445.htm), more or less to the upper right corner you can read his mother is named AMALIA TROSSERO and his father HÉCTOR POCHETTINO. I was not even the user that reinstated that tag, someone else did it last week and it was allowed to stay for one week, until i edited there today.

Does not seem like the most reliable of sources this one i retrieved, but anyhow I will not be bothered to edit in this article again regarding this topic. Attentively --85.242.133.151 (talk) 16:07, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

My understanding is that Argentine customs differ from Spanish, based on this. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:12, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

I have seen several Argentine players with two surnames, one from mother and one from father. Don't know if Pochettino is one of those cases, article stays as it is, if someone else adds the info it was not me. Ah, and apologies are in order for my (somewhat false) first paragraph, i DID reinstate the tag just now, what i did not do was reinstate the full name. --85.242.133.151 (talk) 17:40, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

MASSO65 did it again! Now, since he does not want people to know Braga finished in ninth position in 2013-14, now the storyline reads "led Braga to the 2013-14 Primeira Liga", misleading readers into thinking Braga WON the championship! I know they are not going to be blocked, but i leave the message nonetheless. --85.242.133.151 (talk) 21:28, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

  • THREE refs removed in storyline, including one that merely said Braga would not be renewing his contract!! Not only it this disruptive behaviour as you point out, it's downright vandalism (no negative stuff said about this person, even if it's true - lowly league finishes, no new contract, etc), i don't understand how you fail to see the latter. Plus, since this "user" only devotes himself/herself to this article, it's safe to say it's somebody related to the subject (that or someone who saw this article was being taken care by me to great lengths, and decided to troll after they saw i fell in the trap!) --85.242.133.151 (talk) 21:30, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Could you please add the piece to your watchlist? Thanks in advance --85.242.133.151 (talk) 22:14, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

  • No reply, don't know if article is watchlisted or not. Another similar situation, in Gregor Balažic: second time negative stuff is removed (please see his FK PARTIZAN sub-section, regarding the penalties, I think it is a bit relevant, especially when he displays that sportsmanship in the end - please note I did not add anything in the first place - but if you feel it's needless fancruft please re-remove it), including by registered User:StefanovicPFK who from his wikiname you can clearly see which team they support. That was on 13 October 2016; two days later, an anon IP removed Mr. Balazic scored his first ever goal for the club (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gregor_Bala%C5%BEic&diff=next&oldid=744499148)!

Attentively --193.137.135.2 (talk) 13:09, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

IPs warned and articles watchlisted. Not sure we can say for certain that the IP and StefanovicPFK are one and the same though. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:32, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

I agree with that assertion, indeed. The doubt is just this one, ONE vandal or TWO vandals ;) --193.137.135.2 (talk) 13:57, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

  • Newflash! MASSO65 has replied in his talkpage, and the user is none other than Mr. Paixão himself! He says he wants that negative info removed from the article because it is hurting him professionally. You are the admin here, kindly sort it out with the manager. --193.137.135.2 (talk) 13:31, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

The manager has written more in his talkpage after your reply. He is accusing people of trying to hurt his image with things that are written in his bio, especially the "worst league finish in 11 years". I have just been consulting the edit history of the article and the first time I touched the piece was on 18 JUNE 2015, that bit was already mentioned there, I merely composed wording overall. Also, Mr. Paixão wants to have the "he coached two historical clubs" - from his early years - bit reinserted in storyline, instead of the accurate, non-POVish "never coached in higher than the third division", which is in no way denigrating him or anyone else, merely stating the truth!

Where do you think the storyline needs more overhaul? I'll gladly oblige, if need be. --193.137.135.2 (talk) 09:42, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Danny Rose Wiki

Hello my name is ewanreid7, I'm here to talk about my numerous edits from the danny rose page, tbh I'm recently new to wikipedia and I'm trying add in a fact that hasn't been added to wikipedia yet, and the reason for the numerous edits is that the way it edited it I found numerous errors such as puncuation and language so it caused me to edit the page numerous time I could provide a source if you want, regards. Ewanreid7 (talk) 23:09, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Matty, Jimfbleak will be scheduling this one at TFA later this month. I've been work on the TFA text in my sandbox, and I'm stuck on this part: "... 1958–59, when a league reorganisation placed them in the Fourth Division. The same season, they finished third and won their first promotion. They were promoted into the Second Division for the first and only time in 1973–74. By mid-October 1974, they were in fifth place—their highest league placing—before finishing 1974–75 in 15th place." As a writer, I don't have a problem repeating words, so "promoted" and "promotion" are fine. I don't like to repeat the same word with different meanings in quick succession, and place/placed/placing means at least two and maybe three different things in this passage. Could you pick a different word for me? - Dank (push to talk) 21:15, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Dwight Gayle

I would like to apologize for unintentionally changing the DOB to the 20th of October 1990 as I believed that the sources provided the correct information. I have seen the talk page of Gayle about the past confusion. Someone had previously changed it to 1991 which did not match any sources. I now believe that the source you have put on after the date of birth would be correct, meaning the others I've seen (all listed 20/10/1990) are wrong. I have read a reference from the BBC sport website saying he was 23 in November 2012 so hopefully the DOB will not change any more. p.s. thanks for updating my unintentional error. 86.132.114.42 (talk) 21:55, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Phil Jones EFL Cup

Why do you keep on removing the EFL Cup United just won from Phil Jones' honours list? Just because he was injured for the final? Guy made 4 appearances in the cup this season and that means a winner's medal. The club gets about 25 winners medals to give it's players and Phil Jones is 100% confirmed to have got one due to filling the appearance criteria. So the honours should contain the EFL Cup because guess what? He played a huge part in United winning it! KnavishGlobe786 (talk) 11:29, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Leicester City F.C table section issues

Hi, I've tried to fix an error on the Leicester City F.C Page, and haven't been able to. I've had some trouble with it and can't quite understand why. I hope you might be able to help?

This is the issue... The managers history table is currently placed in the wrong section, it is in the (League History) section, meaning where the managers table should be (in the Managers section) isn't there. Do you think you'd be able to put the managers table back to the (Managers) section? The league history table is in the correct section (League History) but the managers table is in that section as well when it isn't supposed to be. I hope that makes sense and if you take a look I hope you'll soon understand what I mean. Thank you. A99 Wiki (talk) 18:50, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello, I am not sure if this is the correct process to in order to 'talk' - so please forgive me if it's wrong. I added a very popular Notts County Fan Site (which does apply to the external link policy). However I note, "Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia". The site is very media rich, it wasn't added to spam or in order to gain traffic from Wikipedia - I simply added it because I feel it offers value to readers. Please do consider re-adding it and taking a look, you will see that the site is driven to producing very good content. https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joeymuk (talkcontribs) 22:38, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Flagicons

Hello Mattythewhite

I was only trying to improve the webpage as per the guidelines set out in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Icons#Avoid_flag_icons_in_infoboxes, which clearly state: "the infobox may contain the national flag icon of an athlete who competes in competitions where national flags are commonly used as representations of sporting nationality in a given sport" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Icons#Avoid_flag_icons_in_infoboxes, which would make my edit productive, not disruptive.

How can an edit/editor can't be declared disruptive, even to the point of failure or refusal to "get the point" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Disruptive_editing#Failure_or_refusal_to_.22get_the_point.22, if he/she and his/her edit is in line with Wiki guidelines that are specifically set out in black and white?

Sergi Roberto

Hi there. I saw that you've done some work on the Sergi Roberto page. I just added a couple lines and a reference related to his goal today against PSG. Someone else did as well right after me. Obviously there's no sense in having the same content twice, but I didn't want to decide which one to keep since I was involved. I thought it best to have someone else decide. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lovetron44 (talkcontribs) 22:26, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Matty, can you please help out and stem the tide? Maybe if you revert next time they will heed and leave it be, but having "He is mainly known for scoring the goal in the dying seconds of the famous match where Barcelona made a comeback from a four goal deficit against Paris Saint Germain" written in intro is hardly encyclopedical no?

You'll be the judge, attentively --193.137.135.2 (talk) 13:02, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Numbers in honours

Half of the footballers have numbers written in their honours. I added numbers to Dani Alves and a couple others and was accused of "disruptive editing" I had the same question about the runners up in honours. Why do some players have them and others don't? Are some players more special than others? What is the context here? KnavishGlobe786 (talk) 21:02, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

Just because some others (can guarantee you it isn't half) have numbers doesn't mean the rest should. See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. It is long-standing consensus at WT:FOOTY that they should not be included. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:05, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

The Bury stats updater

Any chance of getting a rangeblock on 2a02:c7d:2889:6000... ? Don't know how much of a long IP address is likely to be the same person, but keeping giving them cutesy little messages as if they're different people not understanding what they're doing wrong isn't going to achieve anything. I took 2A02:C7D:2889:6000:57A:3433:3B6A:DB30 up to a level 4 warning the other day, at which point they did stop, so regardless of the different IP, they are repeating the same disruptive editing after a final warning. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:31, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

Rangeblocking is above my ability/understanding, I'm afraid. I'll keep an eye out and block if appropriate. While you're here, would you mind taking a look at this discussion at WT:FOOTY and give your two pence worth? Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 16:14, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

IP editor

Hi, I have not recieved any response from other administrators and I do not like to adminshop, but I feel that something has to be done or at least a response to my messages to acknowledge they read it although they feel no action has to be taken. Thats why I come to you know as an active admin (perhaps the others are offline).

Anyway, I am wondering if an editor is allowed to remove "their content" as an IP did at 2016–17 Liverpool F.C. season‎. The IP got blocked after being disruptive and making personal attacks, and today returned as a new IP (block evasion) to remove all of "their" content and making new personal attacks (this led to block, and this was without action taken from any admin). They even threaten to return as an other IP.

If you could take a look and also tell me if the content removal was okay, that would be highly appreciated. Thank you. Qed237 (talk) 15:05, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Once content is saved, it's no longer "yours" as you irrevocably agree to release it under the CC BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL. So the IP has no *right* to remove the content. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:12, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
Would you mind restoring it? I could, but I dont what to be subject of more attacks from this editor. Qed237 (talk) 15:15, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

You realise the stats on Robson's page are themselves unsourced, right? Mattythewhite (talk) 16:08, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Moussa Dembele

Hi, so called, Matty- I have been notified by your good self that I am a Wikipedia vandal. I think you may find this is untrue as found the correct information at your very own source, www.soccerbase.com

(talk page stalker) Your edit updated the Infobox stats to include cup appearances in the Fulham totals. The infobox should contain only league appearances and goals, as per the note at the bottom of the infobox Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only. Copying this comment to your talkpage as well in case you don't notice it here. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 16:51, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Please do not revert sourced content like you did at Roberto Firmino without explaining why you did it, or label well-meaning users as vandals. A user of your experience should know better, and looking at your talk page this is becoming a habit.

Is it, now? Mattythewhite (talk) 18:25, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Why did you do it? Do you read the sources, or do you just revert anything not written by yourself? How the flying fuck is it vandalism to mention with sources that a man is married and has children, that he was the victim of a burglary, and to CORRECT his criminal penalty?

Also, it's not a legal threat to call something libelous, just as vandalism is a real-world crime and you accused me of it

When and where did I accuse you of vandalism? Mattythewhite (talk) 18:32, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
[1] Explanation given is "Rvv" which is [2] jargon for Re-vert vandalism. Then another admin gave me a warning for vandalising the page. I always thought Wikipedia vandalism was changing a player's team as a joke or writing a swear word in all caps at the top of the page but it appears I am mistaken. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.255.104.153 (talk) 18:39, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi Matt,

I was making the change as I work for Crystal Palace FC and Jason's date of birth has been wrong for a long time on wikipedia. It is actually the 18th June. See link to club's website http://www.cpfc.co.uk/team/player-profile/jason-puncheon/42. I tried again adding this link but it has been changed back to 26th again. Reliable Source for Player Honours

Is us.soccerway.com/uk.soccerway.com a reliable source for the player honours? KnavishGlobe786 (talk) 12:33, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

Soccerway is a reliable source, but regarding honours I would use it with caution. They have a habit of listing honours that players haven't actually won, e.g. Premier League title when the player hasn't made the requisite number of appearances. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:26, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
Agreed, with examples: they list Seb Larsson with a Premier League r/u medal and an FA Cup winners' medal for 2004/05 when he played not a single minute in either competition, and honours for the 2004 and 2005 FA Community Shields when he wasn't in the matchday squad for either match. And Curtis Davies gets a 2011 League Cup-winners' medal despite being cup-tied because he'd played in it for Villa that season. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:52, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

My name is Michael Endrias. I am the cousin of Gedion Zelalem. The reason I modified his article is because his younger sister, Mehret Zelalem, does not know of her mother's death and believes her stepmom to be her real father. Nolito edit.

Nolito has so far in his Manchester City career managed six goals for the club, so why isn't it notable to mention the one game where he scored two of those? Besides, his page doesn't really seem to be that updated, which is unfortunate. Sillesen (talk) 17:31, 26 March 2017 (UTC)

March 2017

"Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you made a change to an article, FC Bayern Munich, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so!"

I'm not sure what comment you're referring to. The only changes I made were all common knowledge facts regarding Bayern's historic performances in the competition, that were easily cited by the main source of all the information that was already contained in the existing citations.

However, even more interesting is that none of the other information in that section has a citation at all whatsoever. So, clearly it seems your motivation to remove my comment comes from somewhere else.

But, if you want, you can even look at wikipedia's own source of basic facts on that very competition (which also happens to not be cited).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_European_Cup_and_UEFA_Champions_League_finals

In the future, you may want to realize citations are only for things which aren't widely recognized & easily documented common knowledge facts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.243.82.229 (talk) 00:16, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

List of European Cup and UEFA Champions League finals doesn't have any citations? Think you might wanna double check that. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:22, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Rafael Gaúcho, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:53, 27 March 2017 (UTC) Hi, Mattythewhite. The change in the article was made in players infobox where no references are cited previous. But there is external link section below http://de.soccerway.com/players/rafael-pompeo-rodrigues-ledesma/27423/ where all actual information about the player is updated. The only thing I did - information update using info from existing link in the players page. But no big deal here - it could stay as it was before if this is the rule.Hunter242 (talk) 10:26, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Matty, what's your intake on this please?

I know, you are a "fan" of leagues being written in intro, but this user also: 1 - needless creates a redirect ("AS Monaco" instead of the correct "AS Monaco FC"); 2 - blanks their page whenever they receive a message, so I feel they don't want to interact "all that much" and thus I will not be bothered to do so.

We are both quite close of breaching the 3RR. If you feel I am in the wrong, notify me and I will stop of course. Attentively --193.137.135.2 (talk) 09:14, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

It doesn't really matter if a redirect is used, as long as it heads to the right place. What's more important is the club name that is displayed, and wouldn't just Monaco be correct here? Mattythewhite (talk) 13:00, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

I see, X2. But isn't the other user displaying a great level of despise for simple/basic interaction? Whatever it is, next time he reverts me (he will!) I leave it be. --193.137.135.2 (talk) 13:49, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

  • I have adjusted the intro somehow to meet the fellow user's standards and sent them a polite message. Let's wait... --85.242.133.151 (talk) 14:47, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Stop saying I don't have a reliable source

I clearly have a reliable source. You probably didn't even go to the website and check. I only have one thing. Cheryshev did score a goal for Real Madrid and I want it to be in the appearances and goals. It even shows that he scored a goal for Real Madrid against Cadiz. You have made so much mistakes. You clearly don't know nothing about soccer/football. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TimTishchenko (talkcontribs) 01:06, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

You clearly don't know anything (not nothing, that's a double negative) about what is supposed to go in the infobox. I have explained to you *multiple* times on your talk page that *league* statistics only are included. Mattythewhite (talk) 01:12, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Infobox stats editing

Hi, I see an IP (168.181.182.54) has been enthusiastically editing infobox stats totals upwards, i presume this is for all games rather than league totals although they never cite a source. I have a feeling this is the same user as 179.106.3.250 who did the same thing last week. A shame they are putting so much effort into the wrong infomation! Shall I just go ahead and revert 168.181.182.54's edits, or would you like to take a look first (you already reverted Ruud Gullit)? Thanks. PS while trying to check Cafu's totals I spotted his career stats box is a bit messed up (the Palmeiras bit below Zaragoza), I'm not very good with the formatting of those tables (tried and failed!) so if you have a chance could you possibly fix it? Crowsus (talk) 10:54, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Pretty sure the figures are entirely made up. They've been using a few different addresses, think I've reverted them all now. I'll take a look at Cafu and see if I can fix the table. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:01, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Why have you reverted all my recent edits?

All I was doing was adding the 2017 EFL trophy win to players profiles. Not sure why it has been removed.- skybluecm

As I explained on your talk page, the content is unsourced. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:46, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

I thought it was self explanatory. I linked to the efl trophy final '17 on all of them which acts as a reference? If not I will re add them.

I had said that flags were always added next to teams and you responded with "Since when".
