Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Al Baxter may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Flags[edit]

Hi there. Just to let you know, I will be reverting several of your recent edits. Flags are not allowed in infoboxes as per WP:INFOBOXFLAG. Please refrain from sticking them in. Also, please refer to WP:DATERANGE to see what date ranges should look like on Wikipedia. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 13:15, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also, as per all the other messages you're getting on your talk page, you're adding an inordinate amount of bad links. Can you please check the links to other pages you're adding in, it's really just causing a big mess! TheMightyPeanut (talk) 13:18, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so a few things. According to WP:DATERANGE, the preferred format is a 2-digit number for the "to" year (unless spanning a century). So, if an article currently has that format, don't change it to a format that's not the preferred format. When you add links, make sure it links to the correct page. For example, in a recent edit on the Brendan Cannon page, you added "Bakkies Botha". The first part is another article name. Since there is no article called "Bakkies Botha (rugby union player)", this appeared as red in the article and linked to a page that doesn't exist. However, there is an article called "Bakkies Botha" which that article should link to. So make sure that's the first thing in the brackets. If something appears in red, do a quick search on Wikipedia to see if there's no article with a slightly different name that you should use.
By default, it will display the article name as the link. If you'd like to display something else, put in a pipe "|" character and the text you'd like to show. Say, for example, you want to say something like "his debut in Super Rugby came during the 2014 season". Typically, you would have links to the competition and the season, but "his debut in Super Rugby came during the 2014 Super Rugby season" doesn't read well, so you can use "2014 season" to present it as "his debut in Super Rugby came during the 2014 season".
As for images, you are only allowed to upload images to Wikipedia that doesn't have any copyright restrictions. If someone else took the photo, it's their property and you're not allowed to upload it unless you get specific permission from the rights holder. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 15:05, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok cool:) tnx for the info :) ill be sure to ditch the flags and the unneccessary use of "19-" and "20-" . I know more or less how to do the links. I just thought that there would be more results for the phrase "Bakkies Botha". Perhaps other articles pointing to his name. I only want to redirect readers to his own personal bio page :) also I have noticed that Jean DeVilliers the captain of the Springboks <---(see what I did there ;) :P) does not have a wikipedia biography page. I feel strongly that we (that is you and I) should create a page for him. I cannot do this on my own as I have no previous experience of creating a page whatsoever and I edit wikipedia via mobile which does not seem to allow me to create a page. Could you perhaps put all the basics (set-up the page and provide references) and I will insert an infobox etc... Much appreciated :) by the way what is your real name? also pls check my most recently edited page Matt Cockbain and tell me if its ok :) the infobox that is :) tnx

Oh, and all check the "disambiguation links" posted on your talk page. For example, in the batch for 10 July, it says that you added a link to "Western Province" on the Selborne Boome page. "Western Province" can mean a multitude of different things - the main article called "Western Province" is a disambiguation page, it's basically an index for a lot of different articles relating to the term "Western Province". Instead, you should've linked to the Western Province (rugby team) page, i.e. change the link on the article to "Western Province".
Jean de Villiers definitely does have a page. All current (and recent) Springboks do! However, if you do want to create pages, start it in your sandbox (you should see a "Sandbox" option at the top of the screen; if not, it should be User:Matt Leadingham/sandbox. You can use that to play around and experiment with things. Once you're happy, it can be moved into its own article.
And I don't have a real name. ;-) TheMightyPeanut (talk) 15:57, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanx :) that's a relief! I typed in "Jean DeVilliers" instead of "Jean De Villiers" -_- my bad. Will fix the Boome page :) u a man or a woman at least? :D and Safrican?

Two things re the Matt Cockbain article, which are massive flaws with the infobox template. Firstly, look at the way "Cardiff Blues" wraps across two lines, which meant you stuck in an additional
to get it to align. If someone with a much higher screen resolution loads the page, "Cardiff Blues" might not wrap to a second line, which in turn would mean that "World Corporation" would shift up one line – to one line above the corresponding years. So, I would try and avoid using two consecutive
s – instead, you can use xxxxxxxx to ensure "Cardiff Blues" doesn't wrap to a second line. So the line should read:
| ru_proclubs =
Secondly, his record at the Queensland Reds is mentioned twice; once in the "Provincial/state sides" section, once in the "Super Rugby" section, with different stats, etc.
Now, this is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, I don't understand why there is this unnecessary split. If a player plays at the top levels in Australia, Ireland and Japan (for example), if would be listed in three separate sections, which makes no sense to me and doesn't represent it in a nicer chronological order. For that reason, I prefer using infobox rugby union biography to infobox rugby biography. The former also allows for amateur teams, youth teams, there's no need to mess around with
characters anywhere, it's much easier to read (i.e. to maintain) and errors like listing the same team twice won't happen. But both templates are in common use and it's been proposed that they be merged, but nothing has happened yet.
I am male and I am South African, yes. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 16:25, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok cool :) once again thank you ;) the xxxx thing does not show the entire table on my screen so I thought it would be more convenient for my use :) The 2 Reds things on Matt Cockbains page are seperate commpetitions. Super 12 and his state/provincial career with QLD. How old are you? Btw?

There is no "state/provincial" competitions that the Queensland Reds participate in. They're a Super Rugby team. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 16:59, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I know that but isn't there any aussie districts comp btween states? E.g. New South Wales, Queensland, act, Western australia???

Nope! There was a competition called the Australian Rugby Championship that lasted one single season, in 2007. They recently resurrected it as the National Rugby Championship, which will kick off next month. But, besides 2007, different state or state representatives never played each other. The only competitions they had before and since were state championships, such as the Shute Shield competition in Sydney / New South Wales. That was the reason why, when Super 14 became Super Rugby, conferences were introduced. It was the only opportunity Australian teams got to play each other. Hopefully the National Rugby Championship will turn out to be a success and (eventually) be on par with the Currie Cup in South Africa and ITM Cup in New Zealand. Hi there :) I seem to have been blocked from editing welsh rugby players biographies. How might this have happened and how can I rectify it?

What do you mean? You've not been blocked, you would've gotten a message on your talk page if you were... TheMightyPeanut (talk) 11:26, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think it was a glitch. I logged back in and then out again everything seems to be good. Some of the pages didn't let me edit them. Said I had been blocked from editing the page. How do you get blocked anyway?

If you persistently vandalise pages or something, a Wikipedia administrator can give you a temporary ban from editing. Sometimes, if pages are subject to a lot of vandalism, they might also increase the protection level of pages (which might mean you have to be logged in to edit, etc). TheMightyPeanut (talk) 12:18, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I'm safe then :) 2 things have discovered though rugby players Quinton Davids and Marc de Marigny do not have pages.

Loads of pages don't exist. If you'd like to try and create some of those, start using your sandbox (as described above) and I'll help you out, if needed. Once done, we can more it to the main space... TheMightyPeanut (talk) 18:19, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok tnx :)
