Okami article

I was wondering where the {{toomuchtrivia}} tag disappeared to, with the game references sorted into a separate section. It is still technically trivia though, i.e. interesting but not important to the article. In which case WP:LC may apply. --Stratadrake 05:04, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Why on earth isn't "roll-'em-up" a genre? Is "third-person action" really more descriptive of the game?

Apprentice 6 article

Thanks for your good work already on The Apprentice article. There are a couple of editors who confuse their point of view about what happened on the show with verifiable things like why someone was fired, etc. My time on Wikipedia has been limited lately, and I don't have the mental energy to go to war this season, BUT if you ever need any backup please let me know. Also, you might want to consider putting something on your user page. Even if it's something simple like "This is my user page". That will change your name on people's watchlists from red to normal / someone that's been here before.

Amazing Race 9

I have reverted your revert to my edition to Amazing Race 9. I watched the end of Leg 3 this morning and as Eric and Jeremy arrived at the Pit Stop in Munich, Germany Phil told them that as they had the Travelocity Gnome they won the trip. I stand corrected; I could have sworn that E/J got the prize for being first and there was no mention of the gnome, but going back through forums on TWOP I see that it was along the lines of Phil saying "E/J you are first. And I see you brought your gnome. You win a trip.. ", but he didn't explicitly say "because you brought a gnome to the pit stop first, you win a trip", which lead to a lot of confusion if the gnome was connected to the trip. However, the CBS recap confirms that the first across the line with the gnome won the trip. --Masem 16:21, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

PW/GS Canon

Ema reappears. But in GS2, they clearly say that after his trial, Edgeworth never set foot in a court again.

That's the point every one seems to want to be picky about, but given that 1) they wrote out PW1-3 in Japanese, 2) wrote case for PW1's DS release, 3) localized PW1 prior to starting to bring out PW2 for the DS, and finally, 4) wrote a new PW4, there's bound to be some continuity errors either from the original writing or from localization, particularly if they didn't know the plot of PW2 at the time. --Masem 13:10, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

What was wrong with Armor sets in Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters?

I added the armor section then you deleted it. I want to know why. I read your reason and reread over Wikipedia's stance on the subject. In my mind when I go to Wikipedia to look something up I find information, especially that. I don't see what's wrong with it since it could easily be thought of as cannon relating to the Ratchet and Clank story line.--David McLaren 00:26, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

It's more specific for video games: Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Article guidelines and related discussion around that WP project has discouraged all "Lists of X" save for characters, with only some notable excepts. Survivor occupations

I'm sorry to say this, but why are you deleting Survivor occupations? There appears to be an inconsistency for this. For a while, I've keep adding the occupations in Cook Islands and you remove it. Wasn't there an agreement earlier? Also, how come Fiji and Guatemala have theirs on? Are you being unfair to sites and concealing information or something? Please let me know because I really don't get your point in this.

Portmanteau

In the Survivor article, you put "treemail" is a portmanteau of "tree" and "e-mail". Isn't it more likely a portmanteaur of "tree" and "mail"? (please reply below) --TeckWiz is now R ^ParlateContribs_@(Let's go Yankees!) 23:16, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

True, it could be that, with the resulting word phonically similar to "email"; as "treemail" came from the survivors themselves and has latched on since, the initial derivation is unknown, just that it's "tree" + ("email" or "mail"). Future Race Spoilers

In this diff, you reverted a user added future race spoilers. The user made a point in that edit, with an HTML comment saying that the episode aired already, so it's not a spoiler. I kind of agree. I've seen you revert this many times. Why is it a spoiler? It's already aired. There was discussion on this I think on the TAR11 pages, can't remember offhand. I know that WP doesn't work on tape delay, but the way the discussion came out and how I see it, given that each blurb about what racers were selected in TAR11, the user is one click away from knowing the results of the race; this way, the earlier race page can remain free of TAR11 spoilers while revealing everything about that earlier race, though nothing prevents the user from finding this out should they click further. --Masem 14:31, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Gyakuten Saiban 5, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Masem,

Freakazoid tv show

I added links for voting for the tv show on certain available websites. I am in no way affiliated with these websites or the original production team for Freakazoid show, I just want to make the ability for fans to vote to be known by anyone who liked the show. Even without being affiliated with the sites, links such as this aren't appropriate for Wikipedia which is meant to be a reference guide and not a general link warehouse. If there was a verifiable source that stated that a lot of people are trying to revive Freakazoid, that would be usable, but if it's just links to voting sites, it's not. --Masem 19:41, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Computational chemistry

Thanks for your comments on the talk page of that article. I think it became classified as a good article before I started edited WP at the end of October, 2005. I certainly did not think it was that good at that time, but thanks to several people it has become a lot better. I have been intending to put it forward for a GA re-view, but have not got around to it. Could you give us any suggestions about what does need to be fixed up? For some, take a look at what some of the other editors have said over at Good Article Review. You do need a lot more in-line references (doesn't have to be new references if the existing ones adequately state the necessary details, use the (ref name="") tags to repeat them, but you do need more); make sure to properly format references using the correct WP:CITET; the article structure is a bit in question - I think you can move History to be the first section, and then have "Concept" (your current "Introduction"), "Methods" (which covers most of the rest of the article) and "Computer software". I'd also look at other articles in the Physics and Astronomy section of WP:GA to compare against. You also could probably do easily with one or two more pictures to help enhance the understanding of the article - make sure that that tone is written for general understanding (which mostly seems to be there) which pictures can be used to help significantly. --Masem 13:23, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Endgame tablebase - everyday life

I saw that you gave the Endgame tablebase article something about "everyday life" in the GA tag. Althogh I think it is a great article, I don't think that it is something that the casual person would be interested in in everyday life. Okami improvements

Thank you for jumpstarting some much-needed improvements on the Okami article. Many of the unsourced statements are true and easy enough to find using a search engine. That first one, though, saying that Hideki Kamiya had major Zelda influence in creating this game, is giving me trouble. I'd dismiss the whole statement. However, I did find an interview where he states that The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is one of his major inspirations, but not necessarily for Okami. A question

While I have few reservations about freaking out in private when it's necessary, it's best done only after verifying a good reason to do so. I'm sure you understand. Since you're more acquainted with the fiction notability policy (namely, at all), please tell me: do we stand to lose the bulk of our articles on fictional subjects, and even if they're merged, lose what content isn't? --Kizor 01:13, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

A strict reading of the new policy does, in fact, suggest that most of the lengthy articles on solitary fictional characters, things, and locations, are going fail in the notability for fictional works, basically because to try to find reliable, verifiable sources outside their fictional universe is going to be near impossible. --Masem 01:26, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

BioShock edit

As I stated on the reply that did not show up in the talk section for BioShock (since I think I've been blocked from even editing the talk section), there is precedent for the type of wording that I used. It is found on every single article for a successful game - take half life 2 for instance. The words "overwhelmingly positive acclaim" and "universal acclaim" can be found everywhere in the reception section. They are not weasel words and should not be treated as such. Maybe you would like to try removing those statements and see how fast your edits get reverted? While this is an encyclopedic site and editors should follow suit, there is no reason encyclopedic data, as long as it is sourced and does not violate NPOV, should not be able to describe something that stands out of the crowd as exactly that - something abnormally successful and well received. Hypothetically, you would not call something that IS absolutely perfect in every way possible merely "well received by critics." It is not properly descriptive.

I do agree with what you said about the word "perfect," that did not belong in my statement and you took the right approach by bringing the issue to the talk section. So, that being said, maybe you would like to take a look at some examples and fix things up properly, rather than Parjay's approach of tearing my edits down immediately without directing me to the talk section or giving me any direct contact. I'm fairly certain he violated the 3RR rule as well rather than simply asking me to take it to talk or elsewhere, and therefor whatever admin blocked me is not following the rules, since wikipedia says any two people involved in a reversion war should be treated equally. I had no idea what I was doing wrong, not enough experience with wikipedia unfortunately.

My point is that the game has been out for less than a week in the states, less than that in other regions; it is too early to make an assessment like "universal acclaim" (eg Metacritic has 42 reviews for BioShock, but 81 for HL2 , 87 for Gears of War -- we're only halfway there at this point). I know you're including the words "to date" in what you're adding, but I personally think it's jumping the gun a bit too much. That's why I noted in the talk page that I think if you give it a month to accumulate the ratings from both online and print sources (which may reflect some of the issues that cropped up post-release), and it's still above a 95% rating, then sure "universal acclaim" is quite valid. (While "Universal" isn't a cut-and-dried weasel word, it can be taken the wrong way if used incorrectly, as it does approach WP:Peacock terms, so application really needs to be appropriate). --Masem 15:05, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

The sub-article issue

These edits refer: Diff 1, Diff 2, and Diff 3.

I did not mean we should stop discussing it, but it might have helped if you linked Category:Lists of Pokémon.

With lists I meant those that can meet the requirements of Wikipedia:Featured list criteria. Specifically "Comprehensive". List of Pokémon is. List of Pokémon (1-20) can never be—it is already limited by the name. In the same way: Episodes of show can be comprehensive, as can Season X of show, but Episodes 1 - 20 of show cannot be comprehensive. I guess it is a matter of an arbitrary criteria for the list versus a given, external, criteria.

But we can discuss that later. (I will watch this page for a while, if you wish to discuss it.)

Gotcha, I understand what you mean; my concern is that we then need to make sure the guidelines identifies comprehensive lists as valid that people don't jump and make a "List of characters in X" just because (with "X" being a non-notable topic), with the reasoning "There's a list of Pokemon, why can't there be a list of X?" As I remember it, it basically said what the score from IGN was, that it was "fantastic", and currently has the best score to date from IGN. Given how large the reception section is right now, if you want to include the IGN there needs to be something from the review that is more substantially different from the other cited reviews to make it worth including, as the score itself is included via the table. The aspect of the score being IGN's best ever is something trivial, likely this will be trumped by its end of the year GotY awards where it will be clear that IGN likes the game. Its not so much this isn't a valid citation or the like, but we are showing a bit too much bias to the game presently. --Masem 15:04, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

- In response to the message you left me about the new downloadable International tracks for the 360 version: No, I actually haven't seen any announcements from any major sources (IGN, 1UP, etc.)...Yet. Minor sites & various blogs have noted them, though, & videos of them are online via sites such as GameTrailers. They have just been released today, of course, so it may be a few hours at least until an official announcement of sorts is made. Nonetheless, all are online & ready for download.

As for localization...Well, I'm in Canada, so I can't speak for those of you down south. But I would assume if tracks from three countries are aviliable for one North American country, The U.S. has them as well. If not, then the article can be altered.

Sorry to revert your edit but I did spend a lot of time compacting the plot description so we could lose the "too large" tag. A lot of stuff which is in the plot description could be moved to, e.g. list of characters, such as Luke Perry in the "cameos" section. I already took a lot of stuff out such as the unnecessary references to Korben's mother's phone calls, which add nothing to the plot. I'm not bitching here but the description should not just be a rehash of the action of the movie otherwise there would be no point anyone watching it. I've just seen your latest update, and although it's 04:45 here and I really should be getting some sleep, I really do not understand what you're doing. I don't want to get into an edit war with you but when it comes to economy of words, I don't see that anything you have added back in is necessary. You are not writing a description of the plot for a blind person. To enclose a year in [[]], for example, is pointless. Changing "assisted by" to "with the assistance of" is pointless. Putting [[]] round "reporter" and "priest" is pointless. "when planets are in alignment" is minor detail which anyone watching the film will pick up on. I'd go on, but I don't want to annoy you, but fear I might have. I'll just say that I believe in the best an article can be, but not [WP:OWN]. I don't want edit war, and maybe some of the language choices are a bit off. However, I keep in mind that we're written the plot to someone that may never see the movie, so that only reason I added the planet alignment is that it comes up a bit later, but though it could be removed. Also, I think wikilink 1914 is important only to provide context for the war; but maybe second date could. But at the level of detail the plot is actually at, I do agree that its exactly has what it needs, it's only wordsmithing beyond that. --Masem 04:12, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree, up to a point. To someone who may never see the movie, well, why would they bother ploughing through the mass of detail that is there now? The only reason I can imagine that someone would come to the WP page is to find out in broad terms what it's all about, with wanting to have the whole thing spoilt for them. I'm also looking further ahead than that. When you and I are both dead, the digital form of this, and other movies, will still be around. Which means that people will look at them, and see them as perhaps historical or quaint, in the same way that perhaps you and I now see the music of Buddy Holly, Bill Haley or Elvis Presley. The difference is that they will be able to look at the digital movie and in a different way, and the current plot synopsis should not assume any particular value system, as it currently does. It's a fine distinction, but here's how I see it. The way we've got things laid out in the articles, the individual game pages are directly about the game and game development only while the series pages is for the influence of the overall series. In the case of Bang Camaro I would argue that not only is their article better suited for inclusion on the series page, there's value in actually adding a section about groups that were featured in the games getting fame and recognition through it, so you can do more than just link that article, you can add more there. Now, if I consider that same approach as for how to add a section about Bang Camaro to either the GHII or the list of songs, it really doesn't work out or fit in to what's already. In eccense, the news article you're bring in fits right at home on the series page but is out of place on the other pages because it is exclusively about the game itself. --MASEM 04:47, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

I put it on the page you suggested; unfortunately, I have five interviews I have recently done that I have yet to transcribe, so I can't really expand sections, although if someone else does there's a lot of information about guitar hero fans being their base, and observing that they know the notes when they air guitar. Hey, I have submitted this to Peer Review (link), and someone has asked for a screenshot of the actual gameplay - you know, just normal shooting, moving around, using a plasmid... whatever, to add to the gameplay to demonstrate normal gameplay. Help with Anarchy in the U.K.

Hey, I know you work on the Guitar Hero pages and I need some help. I've been trying to reason with some IP address on the Anarchy in the U.K. page. He keeps on deleting any mention of GH3 on the page saying it isn't relevant to the article. But it is, seeing that Sex Pistols re-recorded the song for the game, when asked by Activision because they couldn't find the master. The article reads like "Sex Pistols re-recorded the song because they couldn't find the master." It sounds dumb without giving a reason why they're re-recording it/why they needed the master. Hi. This recently passed GA, and since you are a key contributor to this article, I thought I'd let you know. In reagrds to FA - I really think that this is ready, despite your concerns about the GotY awards. Stability is defined as such in the FA criteria: "Stable" means that the article is not the subject of ongoing edit wars and that its content does not change significantly from day to day. One thing that caught my eye is that the references are not yet all fully correct (each should, at minimum, have an accessdate on them, which I can tell many don't, but I haven't checked to see what other problems might be there). This is generally meant to be caught in GA, though can be missed if there's a lot, so its understandable, but also fixable (though a PITA, as I found when doing Gears of War, which is why I know now to always always always use the citation templates from the start). There's something that tells me there may be more than just a handful of corrections that need to be done if you do go FAC, unfortunately, I can't place my finger on what I think those will be - just that something feels off about it. --MASEM 13:56, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

I am not sure about the accessdate thing, because it would take an extremely long time finding every single unaccessdated ref, matching it with every diff, and then fixing every instance of non-accessdate. I'm not sure that's a huge problem anyway. BioShock FAC

I've tried to do a couple things with respect to the MOS issues and the invisi comments left by some editor to better refine the gameplay section. There's two things that looks like its left from the oppose. First we still have the ref consistency problem which itself leads to reliable sources as the one opposer has mentioned. I can do this, but I need to wait until it looks like the article's stable (100+refs to run through is methodical, I'll probably use AWB to make it faster). The other issue is the language and general copyedit. My suggestion, as fresh eyes help, is to put a call over at WP:VG 's talk page to ask for a couple. --MASEM 00:00, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I started to work through some of the references in the gameplay section but I see where that guy is coming from in the FAC review. Most of the sites cited in the gameplay section are not reliable. It is much MUCH better to cite the big names in gaming (IGN, 1up, and the like) or even better, the game manual, to describe the gameplay elements. The same is likely going to apply to the reception areas, we don't want to be going too far off major gaming sources to back this up. I know we're trying to find support for the more literary aspects of the game (the Yale review has this) but I would see if the article could stand without it, or if you can find a more esoteric source (like NYTimes or other such papers) to replace it. --MASEM 05:55, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Couple more notes in case you catch this while I'm still working on references. the cite web "date" field should be YYYY-MM-DD whenever possible and wikilinked (this is not done automatically); you can also just use "accessdate" instead of the split fields, and it should be formatted the same way (YYYY-MM-DD), but it will automagically be linked for you. (You know exactly when you accessed a web site, but you may not always have the complete date of publishing). I'm now working from the bottom up on those refs and looking for anything out of place. --MASEM 14:32, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

re. Just a note on GA passing

Whilst I agree that the version I passed wasn't perfect in referencing, I couldn't see any glaring discrepancies that were worthy enough to place it on hold. I'm a bit more lax than some other GA reviewers, I guess - I'll only place an article on hold if there are a lot of refs which simply contain a URL, and nothing else. This wasn't the case. That would be the actual image (eg click on the thumb to get to the image page) that needs to be under 300px, not how it appears on the page.

Guitar Hero II - Ready for FAC?

I've done quite a bit of work on the article in the past, as I see you have, and I think that at this point there is little more that can be done to make it better enough that, were it not FA-ready now, it could be later. Bioshock

You seem to be the one doing most of the work on this article. I copy-edited it a while ago and left some queries/suggestions in HTML comments, some of which have been addressed and others which you may have missed. You can see the comments highlighted in the diff here (or just search for <!-- in the edit box). Another editor dropped me a note with some ridiculous justification for removing the hidden comments, so I thought I'd let you know before another zealot passed by in case you want to act on them.

I've just seen your comment on the talk page about the latest addition. As far as I can see, the massive controversy it supposedly caused isn't cited. The posts are cited, and there are about six people commenting on it on one of the forums which is used as a source. I suspect the vast majority of people who purchased the game wouldn't know a thing about it. It might be being giving undue weight to the incident unless some evidence of the public outcry can be cited. I wouldn't say it was pushing a point of view, but it certainly looks too detailed even if the controversy is real. Who cares what the guy's username was? The whole thing can be dealt with in two sentences (at most) rather than a paragraph. Andplus 17:50, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

You seem to have got the PC/XBox review one: I wasn't clear whether the 11th place was overall or for both the PC and XBox; it appears it was just coincidence that it ended in 11th place on both. There are still a couple of points I think could do with clearing up:

You changed "goal" to "location" here: Atlas says his wife and child have been hiding on a submarine, and just as they reach the location, but it doesn't really help; we still don't know what the location is. Is it Atlas' location? Jack's location? Rapture? Somewhere else? Perhaps: and just as they are about to reach safety would work.
The comment that was removed was concerning Both games also have a focus on play choice and emergent gameplay. This means little or nothing to the general reader, and could perhaps be reworded (or "play choice" and "emergent gameplay" linked). Andplus 11:41, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

That's much better. The note is a little confusing, I'll admit; I commented out as well as the graphics being slightly better with higher resolutions as it was simply repeating IGN noted that...[the] graphics of the Xbox 360 version are inferior to those of the PC version from earlier in the sentence. You expanded on the control difficulties well, but reiterating the graphic failings seemed extraneous.

One more thing: there is a sentence near the end of the Story section that ends, ...becoming an inhuman monster that resembles the famous bronze statue of Atlas.. It was added by a user as their only edit since four made in May. I suggest you remove it unless there is something to back it up. I can think of a famous marble statue of Atlas: the "Farnese Atlas", which is probably the archetype for statues of Atlas, but I'm not familiar with any bronze ones that rise to the same level and, unless he transforms into a naked man with a globe on his shoulders, I doubt the comparison holds. I know what you mean, but we should add a section explaining the writings on the wall, because i mainly believe many people wish to come online on wiki to find out more about this. Don't you think if you had played the game, the synopsis would be more of a clarification, while an explanation of the writings may shed some light upon the writings? Unfortunately, Wikipedia is not a game guide - we can tell what the plot is, but we should not be going into every detail and we certainly cannot go into speculation on what the events mean.
