Your edit to User talk:Kurmaa[edit]

I must admit I am a bit puzzled as to why you made this edit [1] which added extra characters to the six-year-old signature on a message to user who is now indefinitely blocked, and whose ability to edit said talk page I revoked about fifteen minutes before you made the edit. Being an apprently very new user it seems quite odd that for your seventh edit ever on Wikipedia you would be digging around in old talk page messages of blocked users and changing them for no apparent purpose. Beeblebrox (talk)

Your submission to AFC[edit]

I don't mean to be a pest but your draft submission at articles for creation is also a bit puzzling as it is apparently a Finnish translation of our article on the Monmouth Archaeological Society that is intended to be used on a the Gibraltarpedia project. Is that right? I guess I don't understand at all why Gibraltarpedia would want a Finnish translation of an article about a Welsh organization submitted to be an article o the English Wikipedia. Since we already have an article on it and all our articles are in English AFC is obviously going to decline said submission. I guess what I am getting at is that you seem a bit lost. Are you sure that Articles for Creation on the English Wikipedia is where this was meant to go? If you need any help please ask using any of the methods outlined in the welcome template at the top of this page, I'm sure this can all be sorted out easily enough. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:09, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Beeblebrox. Yes, I am a very new user and I am still trying to learn how to use Wikipedia. As for your question in your message about why I submitted a Finnish translation to AFC - because Gibraltarpedia spesifically is requesting translations into other languages on the Gibraltarpedia page, I find it difficult to understand why some one would think the page should only be in English, considering that the Gibraltarpedia page already exists in two languages other than English. And the article I translated was one of the articles for translation on Gibraltarpedia. The reason why I added my translation to the AFC was that I couldn't find the appropriate place to add it on the Gibraltarpedia page. My translation was accepted into the Finnish Wikipedia and I followed the guidelines given on the Gibraltarpedia page. Could you kindly help me find the appropriate way of adding my translation to Gibraltarpedia? I'm sorry that you find new users to be such a nuisance. (Marianne Terese Olenius (talk) 10:16, 16 September 2012 (UTC))[reply]

I never said you were being a nuisance, I quite clearly said I was trying to help you find the right place for whatever it is you are doing. We don't have pages in other languages here as this is the English language Wikipedia, that's all I was trying to communicate to you. I am trying to find the answer myself and have asked for help with this [2]. Hopefully someone from that project will be along to clarify the situation for both of us.

(I am still a bit curious about the other question I asked about your odd edits to old talk page comments, which is what initially brought all this to my attention, but that is a separate issue) Beeblebrox (talk) 23:00, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Marianne, I think there seems to be a bit of confusion here. Your article would have absolutely no relevance to Gibraltarpedia, which is about Gibraltar; are you thinking of Monmouthpedia? See Wikipedia:GLAM/MonmouthpediA. Prioryman (talk) 17:45, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Prioryman, If you go to the Gibraltarpedia page and see wich articles are requested for translation by Gibraltarpedia, you will see that they are almost all about Monmouth or Monmouthpedia. If you study Gibraltarpedia a little, you will find that Monmouthpedia and Gibraltarpedia are connected. Monmouth was the first Wikipedia town and now Gibraltar is the first Wikipedia city, so in order to understand what Gibraltarpedia is about, you must first have a good idea of what Monmouthpedia is about. I'm sure you will understand the relevance. Marianne Terese Olenius (talk) 06:30, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hi Victuallers, Thank you for your support. Yes, I would like to learn more and yes please, I would like to be adopted by a Finnish editor. I'd be happy if you can help. Marianne Terese Olenius (talk) 07:03, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

October 2012[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. At least one of your recent edits, such as the edit you made to Template:Xx, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at the welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make some test edits, please use the sandbox for that. Thank you. Dan56 (talk) 21:57, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

An award from us (and the signpost :-) )[edit]

The Signpost Barnstar
This month the Signpost said that the Gibraltar project was a " ludicrously productive GLAM project". Thank you for helping us with that achievement. We have got behind with the barnstars so this is one to say thank you for helping. Gibraltarpedia.org is now showing the list of about 100 plaques - do take a look and see the languages we will be featuring.Victuallers (talk) 22:15, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom run[edit]

Unfortunately, you are not eligible to run for ArbCom this year because you do not meet the required edit count. Please read WP:NOTNOW - it is written to those applying for administrator, but is also applicable for ArbCom candidates, as the standard for ArbCom is even higher. Thank you. --Rschen7754 02:15, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name pages[edit]

Hi, thank you for adding info to the page Guillaume. I moved it to Guillaume (surname). The latter is an article about anthroponymy i.e. human names, whereas the former is a "disambiguation" page, i.e. a sort of index to pages with similar article names. I hope that's clear, but if not MOS:DABNAME has more info on the distinction between these types of pages. I know that all the internal guidance in Wikipedia can seem arcane when you are new, so I hope this does not put you off from contributing further!

I also rewrote some of your contribution to avoid direct copying from the cited website.

Best wishes – Fayenatic London 09:45, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fayenatic, thank you for your help. I also need assistance with adding the Guillaume Coat of Arms to the page. Could you please describe to me how to do it?

Hi, and Happy New Year!
Assuming you have a copyright-free image, look in the Toolbox (top left of this window) for "Upload file", and upload it to the Commons. (The Commons is better than hosting the image on English wikipedia, as other-language wikis can also use it from there.) You will be prompted for info about the origin of the image file, etc. Do let me know if you have any problems. – Fayenatic London 16:15, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Actually the Guillaume Coat Of Arms is not a copyright-free image, so I can't upload it to the Commons. But thank you for your help anyway. - Marianne Terese Olenius (talk) 20:10, 25 July 2013 (UTC)Marianne Terese OleniusMarianne Terese Olenius (talk) 20:10, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Monmouth arkeologinen seura, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 180 days. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 15:38, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HasteurBot, I have edited the page now. I noticed the Gibraltarpedia web site at gibraltarpedia.org doesn't seem to work, but the same article also exists in English on Monmouthpedia.

BR - Marianne Terese Olenius (talk) 02:08, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've deleted it. I tried to explain this to you in September of last year but you don't seem to understand that we already have an article on this subject at Monmouth Archaeological Society. I don't know why you think the Gibraltarpedia project wants Finnish translations of articles about Wales, but you are mistaken. Beeblebrox (talk) 15:49, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Beeblebrox, because Gibraltarpedia and Monmouthpedia are both international, multilingual projects with articles in numerous languages, I really don't understand why neither of them would like this article in Finnish, only in every other language except for Finnish. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the languages this article is available in on the Gibraltarpedia and Monmouthpedia sites.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/MonmouthpediA/New_and_Improved_Articles#New_Articles Last september I asked for help from you with submitting this very same article to Gibraltarpedia, if you remember. Neither of us could find a more appropriate place to submit it than AFC. Now you have deleted it while it was still waiting for approval. Would you please explain your behaviour to me? Marianne Terese Olenius (talk) 10:13, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Responding to your request at WP:REFUND#Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Monmouth arkeologinen seura: the right place for an article in Finnish is the Finnish Wikipedia, and this one is already there at fi:Monmouthin arkeologinen seura, and has been since you posted it there on 15 syyskuuta 2012. I have added a link to it from Wikipedia:GLAM/MonmouthpediA/New and Improved Articles, so that it is in the Monmouthpedia projecy's records. I do not see why we need a copy of the Finnish text here on the English Wikipedia, but I will email you the text, if you like. By the way, when you translate a page, you should provide attribution to the authors of the original article by placing the equivalent of Template:Translated page on the talk page of the translated article. I have done that for you at fi:Keskustelu:Monmouthin arkeologinen seura. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:54, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much, that's what I was trying to do. And no, we don't actually need a copy of it on the English Wikipedia, just the link from the Monmouthpedia site was what I wanted. You solved a problem no one else could help me with. Thank you again. Marianne Terese Olenius (talk) 07:06, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
