Commenting in move discussions

Thanks for participating in the move discussion over at Talk:Chronology_of_MUDs#Requested_move_8_January_2016. Please take moment and familiarize yourself with the preferred methods of participating in such discussions over at WP:RM. Thanks Tiggerjay (talk) 01:38, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

@Tiggerjay:, I am aware of the guidelines, but the Chronology of MUDs-move was to be more of a technical move rather than a controversial one. I quickly brought in a simple support to give the suggested move more weight, following the article in the process in case anyway opposes. I always feel kinda uncomfortable when a requested move has no response ^_^;
But, to quickly look through the guidelines suggested in WP:RM#Commenting in a requested move:
  • "Support" or "Oppose" in bold text is optional. I would have added that for clarity if an argument had started, but it still isn't needed for the closing admin.
  • I forgot to use a bullet rather than simple indentation - my bad.
  • I have no edits on this topic at all.
  • I have a good grasp of the current incarnation of the article.
  • I'm familiar very with the three guidelines given.
  • "The debate is not a vote" is a difficult one: seeing as there wasn't and isn't an argument, I wouldn't even know a reason not to move it. I don't think I really voted either... Where do you think this lies?
  • "refrain from repeating [the nominator's] recommendation on a separate bulleted line." - I suppose this is my biggest mistake. I assume this is why you contacted me? Either way, I see these kinds of comments often ("same as User:name"; "Support per User:name"), so I wasn't even aware of this being a thing...
I hope this makes my response a bit more understandable. ~Mable (chat) 08:07, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
No problem, I've just been seeing a lot of people place what might be appear at first glance to be flippant replies or comments, so it bears the semblance of a week sort of support. Sort of like, I have no problem with the suggestion, but I really don't have an opinion on the matter. I would expect to see something more like Support because this clearly just an unorganized list, etc... That being said, casual or flippant replies are probably better than nothing. Tiggerjay (talk) 16:19, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
Ah, so that's the reason. Well, as I said, I didn't expect a discussion to follow, so I just wanted to get out a simple approval before moving on. I suppose it would have looked quite awkward if people started opposing en masse ^_^; Thanks for talking to me about this, anyway~ ~Mable (chat) 17:11, 19 January 2016 (UTC)
FWIW I have closed the discussion and performed the move as requested. Have a good day. Tiggerjay (talk) 17:24, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

Storylines in Ménage à 3 (webcomic) edited out

Hi! I noticed you edited out the storylines section in the Ménage à 3 (webcomic) article. While I feel that the most of the information was unfit for Wikipedia as per WP:PLOTONLY, the current Plot section of the article only touches the webcomic introduction. Do you think the Plot section in its current state is worth expanding? I want you perspective on this, as you were the one to make the article much shorter (take no offense). Sergey WereWolf (talk) 13:16, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

@Sergey WereWolf: I personally heavily prefer short plot sections, where only the setting and general feel get explained. I tend to cut back on in-universe content a lot. This is particularly so because no publications, besides fanwikis, give detailed information on the plot of long-running stories such as webcomics. A short plot section, or a synopsis section, also makes it much easier for casual readers to get a quick grasp of what the story is about, while it is a lot easier to edit for us Wikipedians. Personally, I even want to get rid of the characters section and incorporate it in the plot section, but doing so would prove particularly difficult...
If you have a way of figuring out which events or trends from the last eight years of Ménage à 3 are vital for the general understanding of the work, feel free to add such info to the plot section ^_^ Well, honestly, the plot section can be improved quite a bit - all that I want is that in-universe content is kept to a minimum if possible. ~Mable (chat) 16:32, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Pings need signature

Hey! Just wanted to let you know that this edit didn't ping the user, because you didn't add new lines and a new signature of yours in the same edit. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 13:22, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Oh, after I made a typo in the first edit, I repaired it and redid my signature in the same edit. This wasn't effective? ~Mable (chat) 13:49, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Nope, it needs to be a new signature (timestamp has to match too). The edit also needs to add lines (not just modify them). There's details at mw:Help:Echo#Technical details. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 13:54, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I never knew about the rule of adding new lines. How annoying. Thanks for messaging me; regardless, I assume the user is following the page, and the primary purpose of the ping was really to show I was talking to them directly ^_^ ~Mable (chat) 13:56, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Ah, the Kotaku and Joystiq sources. Still not sure what to do with them... I suppose your implementation of them in the reception section is pretty good, though - I'll use that when I have a bit of time in a few hours :) ~Mable (chat) 05:02, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
There you go - fills out the article a bit more, which is nice. Establishes notability better as well. the sources are a bit spammy, though. I limited it with three each, seeing as the content is basically the same each time and doesn't add much research value. ~Mable (chat) 10:32, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I am looking to review your DYK request but I'm a bit confused. You have added "source needs translation" though I am not sure what you mean. I presume you have read the sources as you added them? You've also added a sentence with a 'citation needed' tag, if you don't have a source just don't put it in. I don't want to fail the DYK based on the tags, can you please have a look at this so I can complete the review. You have made a massive improvement to this article, well done ツStacey (talk) 13:07, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

@Stacey: Thing is, I wrote the entire article based on Google Translate translations. I'm very sure that all the information is accurate, but the "source needs translation" tags are primarily used because I believe a lot more information can be extracted from the sources. In the case of the DYK nomination, I am not 100% sure that my interpretation of the two sources is accurate. That's why I asked both at TDYK and at the Korea-WikiProject if someone could check it. I believe it is accurate, but I'd rather have someone confirm it. Lastly, there is no "citation needed" tag in the article. I've made sure only to add information that I am at least 99% sure is confirmed by the source. I hope that clarifies the issue somewhat. ~Mable (chat) 15:36, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply, I appreciate how hard it can be to work through sources in a different language. My concern is that no-one can verify the accuracy of the article and so unless we find someone to translate (which seems unlikely) - Maybe the front page is not the right place for this article? Sorry about the citation needed message; I meant "clarification needed" which you have explained.
P.S. Can you have a look at the Source needing translation tag page; I don't think that's what you meant - I don't know what would be the appropriate tag but you might want to remove those as they don't seem quite right. ツStacey (talk) 08:45, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
@Stacey: Ah, thank you. It's alright, I'm just rather sad that no webtoon-related article has ever appeared as a DYK, and wanted to change that. For what it's worth, the sources related to Infinite are in English, so that might still be an option.
As for the translation needed-tags in the article: I'll remove them. The talk page already says exactly what I need from it, if anyone ever happens to care about the article. I'll keep the clarification needed tag in.
Again, thank you for you time and input ^_^ Perhaps some day I will learn Korean and I'll be able to get it to GA and try again ;) ~Mable (chat) 11:06, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
I think if you put it forward for DYK it would get torn apart at the front page so I would withdraw it if I was you. I will keep my eyes open for anything Webtoony which could be improved! I'd never heard as such things either so I am sad too that we didn't have a first. Unfortunately it seems the English speaking world hasn't done much on this topic.. yet. This seems like the perfect excuse for you to learn Korean - How hard can it be? Haha, thank you for being a normal, reasonable person - dealing with DYK sometimes makes me feel like everyone just likes to argue! Thanks, ツStacey (talk) 11:23, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
Don't worry about it; I am aware that I was asking for more than people usually do on a DYK ^_^; Being the "only member of the Webcomics WikiProject" puts me in a weird position sometimes. ~Mable (chat) 11:31, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

I need your help shaping up Steven Universe character list

I've seen your work on the articles for Steven Universe characters Garnet and Pearl (plus your contribution for Steven himself), which makes me wish the List of Steven Universe characters reflected the same kind of quality. I've attempted to rework the article on my own a few months back, but I bit off far too much than I could chew, and I haven't worked on it for a while. Now I've updated my main sandbox in hope of making the article my top priority, which you can view here. Keep in mind that most of what I have was written from scratch, and it's largely incomplete, though I have the general structure mapped out. Even if you decline to help me rewrite the article directly, I would really appreciate an evaluation of what little I have and what can be done to make it more appropriate, at the very least. User:SubZeroSilver (talk) 03:14, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

I just wrote a decently sized response and now it's all gone and I have to start over > ~ < What I was saying is that your list already looks a lot better than the current article. I really like where you're going with this. I generally don't like working on "lists of characters" because they can really attract garbage content and I personally don't really like to describe fiction. I'm also really busy this month, so I won't be taking up any major projects. I'll be sure to put your sandbox in my watchlist, however, and I'll definitely copyedit it at some point and I'll see if I can add to it.
Two things I suggest is to add some prose to the "Main characters" section to describe who the Crystal Gems are and how their group protects humanity and all that, and to add some prose to the section listing fusions explaining the concept better. As for the list itself, I really love how all the minor humans only have one line describing them. Most of them really don't deserve any more in the grand scheme of things. I'm lobing the direction you're taking with this :) @SubZeroSilver: ~Mable (chat) 06:27, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
Why, thank you. I took a page out of featured lists such as Characters of Carnivàle for my approach. I even helped reshape the List of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic characters, which was also kind of hard to look at before, using the same format. As for writing about fiction, I can do that just fine; it's getting the right sources to properly describe them in an out-of-universe style that's a challenge, and your articles (how could I have forgotten Stevonnie, which is currently in better shape than Steven's himself, and he's been in 50 times more episodes than them) do such a good job of it that it's such a shame the article doesn't capitalize on all the sources the other pages have. User:SubZeroSilver (talk) 15:41, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
@SubZeroSilver: Oh, I remember looking at the Friendship is Magic list before – back when I sat through the whole show – and it does look a lot better than I remember it being. You might even be able to get it to Featured List if you want :3 Thanks for all the praise, I'm glad you like my articles, eventhough they're far from my best work on here ^_^; Keep up the good work! ~Mable (chat) 17:10, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

DYK for Moving Pictures (webcomic)

On 24 May 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Moving Pictures (webcomic), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in the Moving Pictures webcomic, World War II is used solely as a backdrop to tell a "fucked up love story"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Moving Pictures (webcomic). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Moving Pictures (webcomic)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

List of fictional intersex characters

Hi there, is there any chance that you could be more specific about the claim of original research on this page? There is only one substantive addition since you last edited the page in December 2015. That addition is cited, but I acknowledge that not all items are. Thanks! Trankuility (talk) 09:42, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

@Trankuility: Oh sure. The article, as it stands now, is approximately 95% original research. Non of the entries are sourced, with two exception. Sure, some of the items in the list are indirectly sourced, in a way, by that they link to their own Wikipedia article. However, basically the entire scope of the list is original research. Why is a list of intersex in fiction worth talking about? Some of the entries of the list, such as Desire (DC Comics), don't seem to have ever been described as "intersex" by sources and may not fit the definition given in the article ("born with sex characteristics ... that do not fit typical binary notions of male or female bodies"). I was surprised when I checked out the article today that it didn't even have any issues tags, so I just added one. I'm not particularly interested in the article myself, but I have it on my watchlist with the hopes that someone will pick it up someday.
If you want my opinion on how to improve the article, you can look at List of fictional non-binary characters (which I created myself), which has a similarly limited scope. Here, every entry has at least one of more sources that specifically describe the character as "non-binary" (or "genderfluid" or "Fa'afafine" or what have you), and there is a background section describing why this topic may be in some way important. I'm not saying the style needs to be similar (I don't care if a list uses a table or not), but I do think those two things are important.
Intersex isn't alone in this, by the way. List of LGBT characters in film is at least as bad as intersex, if not even worse. I also don't believe any of these lists will ever reach FL status, but I think the verifiability issues are big. ~Mable (chat) 11:15, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for that. It appears that the data largely matches material from Category:Works about intersex, so it doesn't come from original research in my view, but the comics, in particular, are not listed. Trankuility (talk) 17:25, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
So I've added some analysis, mostly using a cited journal article, and I've added many citations. I've changed the maintenance header from "original research" to "refimprove" as this seems more appropriate/accurate. Trankuility (talk) 00:20, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
@Trankuility: Items added to that category may also be done so as original research. Perhaps those works were added to the intersex category because they were listed in the intersex list. Either way, I took a quick look at your changes, and the article currently looks so much better. I'm gonna go through some of the sources later (primarily because I am surprised at how much you've been able to find for this topic), but I'm already incredibly happy with what you've done with the list! ~Mable (chat) 06:58, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
@Maplestrip: Occam's razor would stay that it was simple and fast because items in the categories are typically not original research. It is something that you could have done yourself, of course. Trankuility (talk) 08:01, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
I'm sure I could have. Well, either way, you did an amazing job! ^_^ ~Mable (chat) 08:06, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

I was expecting Tokido to be the new FGC page, but when I saw the EVO 2016 results it seemed that someone with excellent knowledge made a Fuudo page. @UltraDark:"Someone with excellent knowledge" - the day I wrote that page was (probably) the first day I've ever heard of the guy! I watched the EVO final, tried to look him up, wasn't able to find him on Wikipedia, and figured I could probably change that. I don't have much esports knowledge really, but I'm very glad that my work was accurate and that it is appreciated :3 ~Mable (chat) 18:13, 9 August 2016 (UTC)
@UltraDark: I actually just did another! Sadly, there's not nearly as many sources available on Latif (video game player) due to his lack of overall success at Street Fighter, though I think the article turned out pretty decent. I like how it manages to tell a coherent story, primarily due to the amazing Red Bull source :) ~Mable (chat) 19:46, 9 August 2016 (UTC)
One thing's for sure, Latif is an EVO champion, he won EVO 2009 for Guilty Gear. He also beat Marn (an American GG player notable for almost killing the Guilty Gear scene, he now lives in Vietnam) in Grand Finals to take it. Due to this victory, Latif is the only Saudi player to have an EVO title. ULTRA-DARKNESS:) 2 CHAT 20:11, 9 August 2016 (UTC)
@UltraDark: I wish I could find a source for that. I saw it on the EVO page, but no news website seems to have taken note of it. Even the in-depth Red Bull article doesn't make note of it (though it does describe Latif as a "Guilty Gear champion at the highest level"). Seems like it is painfully considered non-notable > ~ < ~Mable (chat) 20:16, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

@UltraDark: This you're gonna like. Took me all day to write ^_^; ~Mable (chat) 01:29, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

To be honest, this is really really well written. I fixed some errors regarding information and added some stuff here and there. All and all, it looks fantastic. Thank you for making this wonderful page. :) ULTRA-DARKNESS:) 2 CHAT 17:34, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
@UltraDark: I'm glad you like it. I'm not sure what came over me to write all that, but I hope this more in-depth coverage of Evo will carry on in the future. It's ridiculous that Evo doesn't have individual articles for at least its more recent events. Either way, I seem to be moving back to writing about speedrunning, so that's more up my alley :p Someone should probably really write an article about Poongko - I've seen that name pop up a lot, so I'm sure the sources are there. I won't be writing about Street Fighter for a while, though. ~Mable (chat) 18:13, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Then the image size should be reduced, instead of having artifacts like that. nyuszika7h (talk) 11:03, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Time (xkcd)

The article Time (xkcd) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Time (xkcd) for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. Removal of eSport games in the template

Could a bot be run and remove the template from all the games it previously included, now they they were removed? I would do it manually, but it's a lot of tedious work that I know a bot could easily do. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 06:25, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

@Dissident93: Oh boy, I wasn't aware the template was actually added to all of these games, as it was just some commented-out stuff when I got rid of it. I have no experience with bots myself at all, but maybe? We could also just leave a message on the VG project's talk page and watch the problem fix itself eventually as people just remove the template whenever they come across it. ~Mable (chat) 09:16, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Your most recent post in the Video games project

I'm willing to help a bit, I more of an editor and keeping pages consistent. See I've got a lot of experience since I worked for Gamepedia and Esportspedia (Now EsportsWikis) so I know what I'm doing. But I would like to make things consistent. I want eSports athletes to have appealing infobozes like football players (soccer) and basketball players. I want eSports to be seen as a popular convention for gamers but as a real legitimate sport. - Larcombe (talk) 13:54, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

@Larcombe: Thanks for the interest. I honestly don't even know where to start. I've been trying to give fighting game tournaments some due coverage lately, but that is really just the tip of the ice berg. I think there's a lot to talk about as to how to improve our esports coverage, but the only place where such discussion can exist is the Video Game talk page. I don't want to bring every little thing up there >.> The issue is that there is very little activity in this field, though... ~Mable (chat) 14:39, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
@Maplestrip: When you say coverage you mean keep tournaments and things up to date right? If you mean news and team changes I think we should leave that to EsportsWikis. Tbh right now we should focus on teams and players. - Larcombe (talk) 15:18, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
I find teams and players difficult to write about, but you're right that we need to improve our coverage on them as well. There's a lot that Wikipedia isn't covering, though. I think creating an article on a long-running tournament like Community Effort Orlando is important, as is writing generic information about professional level play like I did at Professional Hearthstone play. The nitty-gritty of teams changes is usually irrelevant, unless you're writing about a player's history of course. I'm not sure what you mean with "news"? ~Mable (chat) 15:29, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
@Maplestrip: what I mean't by news is like when there is a roster change or a player retires and all. We do need to keep teams and players up to date but we shouldn't be the ones announcing it, is what im trying to say. - Larcombe (talk) 02:44, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
Oh no, of course. In general, I think we have more than enough work simply catching up to every that has happened in esports in the past five years. ~Mable (chat) 07:34, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
