Getting the round

Have a beer on me.

Let the amber nectar flow all day and night. Let it run down the mountains and through the caverns and across the rich lawns to swamp the streets. Let it rain beer. Let the heavens open and shine forth beer. Let it all be beer. Wonderful beer. And let it be as deep as the heart of a lion.

This is an acknowledgment of your participation in the RfA of: SilkTork *YES!. 19:12, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in my RfA

I just wanted to take a moment to say "thank you" for taking the time and effort to participate in my recent RfA. As you may know, the discussion closed 66/0/1 and I'm now a holder of the mop. I will keep working to improve the encyclopedia and appreciate the trust which you have placed in me. - Dravecky (talk) 23:04, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Ping

Could you take a look at my last few contributions to AfD, RfD and TfD please? In particular these: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7] and [8]?

It's Cyclonenim (talk · contribs) by the way, I've just changed my signature to be a little more friendly. —Matt (talk · contribs · email) 23:10, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Admin coaching

It's been a while since my admin coaching page was updated - have you given up on me?

If you want to end the coaching that's fine - if you want to carry on that's fine too - in fact, I don't mind if you keep me waiting for another month or 2, but I just want to know where we're at.

Cross-posting to User talk:Garden. Dendodge TalkContribs 22:20, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I think I'm ready for a nomination. I received an offer about a month ago from Wizardman, so I'll contact him. Would you be willing to nominate me (or co-nom if Wizardman still wants to)? Dendodge TalkContribs 19:53, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for your careful consideration at my successful RfA. Your "strong support" was generous and appreciated. Please let me know on my talk page if you have any suggestions for me. - Dan Dank55 (send/receive) 21:25, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Sock puppet

You might want to note User:Thefreakjohnson is apparently a just-created sock puppet of User:Chrispole. Thanks. Boston (talk) 06:36, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the notification. Another admin already blocked Thefreakjohnson, so no worries. Happy editing! Malinaccier (talk) 20:06, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Cyclonenim

Hi. I like the way you think, my own approach would be to ask open-ended questions, get the user to think about what they're getting themselves into, and maybe get them to think about a few situations that they might not have given much thought to. The only thing that did concern me was that CSD comment, and as an admin who works a lot in this area, I planned to drill him fairly heavily on it (especially A7, which still seems to cause a lot of confusion). If you like, and if he is interested, I can concentrate on CSD and you can look at XFD, so that we're not duplicating our efforts?

This is my first admin coaching run, and I picked Cyclonenim because I figured he'd be a nice gentle start before I start helping candidates who have a lot further to come, so if you have any advice for me on the whole business of coaching, I'd be grateful to receive it! Lankiveil (speak to me) 07:30, 7 December 2008 (UTC).

I'm a bit confused, what's up with my CSDing of A7? —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 21:31, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Ah right, it's just the way it was worded I assumed it was something to do with one of my contributions! I've posted my interpretation under Lankiveils questions on my page anyway :) —Cyclonenim (talk · contribs · email) 21:37, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

I assume Alex43223 will also be blocked for violating WP:3RR on this page? Tool2Die4 (talk) 21:13, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

AfD deletion of Pet society

Hi,

Just to let you know that since the debate started someone moved the article to Pet Society, and that page has not been deleted yet. All you deleted was the redirect that resulted from the move. -- roleplayer 01:50, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Ooh, my first barn star! Thank you. -- roleplayer 01:53, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, any chance you could have another look at this close, because I think it's going to cause us problems in the future (plus I really don't like DRV because most people believe it to be AFD2). The bright line of notability for footballers per WP:ATHLETE is having played in a professional competitive game (da Silva hasn't - yet) or passing WP:BIO per substantive coverage (practically all his press is related to his twin brother, and notability isn't inherited). Due to the obsessive coverage of football in the UK, coverage of even reserve side players is quite easy to find, so this could set a precedent. Of course, he's almost certain to play professionally at some point, so this will end up being irrelevant, but at the moment he doesn't pass the notability guidelines. See also this. Thanks, Black Kite 10:33, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

While perhaps the player is non-notable by WP:ATHLETE, he does pass WP:BIO because of the coverage he has received (even if football coverage in the UK is considered obsessive by some). Not only this, but there was no consensus to delete the article, and the arguments for both sides were valid. I stand by my closure. Thanks, Malinaccier P. (talk) 14:37, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
My argument would be that he doesn't actually pass WP:BIO, and that the Keep !votes were flawed. But regardless, this is being continued at the venue above. Best, Black Kite 19:10, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Steve Gatena: 3-3 would probably equal "No Consensus". --Bobak (talk) 17:27, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

And that's how I closed it. What are you trying to say? Malinaccier P. (talk) 14:40, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
and now it has been resubmitted wp:Articles for deletion/Steve Gatena (2nd nomination) (Merry Christmas by the way...) GtstrickyTalk or C 20:25, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

RfA thankspam

Thank you for your participation in my recent RfA, which failed with 61/52/7; whether you supported, opposed or remained neutral.

Special thanks go out to Wizardman and Malinaccier for nominating me, and I will try to take everyone's comments on board.

Thanks again for the trust the community has placed in me. A special Christmas song for you all can be found at the right hand side of this message!

Apologies if you don't like RfA thankspam, this message was delivered by a bot which can't tell whether you want it or not. Feel free to remove it. Dendodge TalkContribs, 17:30, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Merry Christmas

VPP

Regarding "I can see unstoppable edit wars and system message change abuse", I believe the proposal is to lean on the devs to allow the community to decide which protected pages can and can't be edited by these people ... system messages would be off-limits. Regarding "unstoppable", my thinking is to handle that by taking the privilege away. I think we really want to ride the admin who hands out this tool to keep an eye on the people they're handing the tool out to, and get medieval on them if they have a habit of poor oversight or poor judgment. (I'm watchlisting for a few days.) - Dan Dank55 (send/receive) 03:16, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

I stand by my comment. I still think that there will be overlooked pages and general problems with the userright. Thank you for the concern. Malinaccier (talk) 03:21, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Is there a different admin userright that we could break off with less risk of abuse? - Dan Dank55 (send/receive) 04:03, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm not really sure. Rollback and account creator has done well, but the other tools (blocking and deletion mainly) will often be abused. Maybe a vandal-fighter userright could be created with access to blocking and unblocking, but this could not be given out as simply as rollback is. Malinaccier (talk) 23:36, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

simple checkmate

I noticed you added "simple checkmate" to checkmate. What does that do, I haven't seen it before. Bubba73 (talk), 01:44, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

offer for admin coaching?

I know u didn't offer me, but will you possibly coach me too? I think it would help in my "rise to power" thanks either way!
