How do I know if I had successfully uploaded a video clip?[edit]

"How do I know if I had successfully uploaded a video clip?"

I uploaded a video clip and did nor receive any errors but the clip does not apear on the article that I wanted it to link to. Can you please assist? MBA2012E2 (talk) 13:00, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The file didn't upload, mainly as you are not Autoconfirmed. This happens automatically when you reach 10 edits, and have had an account for 4 days. You can also request confirmed status at WP:PERM, or request it be uploaded at WP:FFU. Mdann52 (talk) 13:05, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the prompt feedback - I registered on the 13th may and have subsequently made more than a 100 edits on one particular page....I am quite desperate to have this video uploaded. Any suggestions? MBA2012E2 (talk) 16:35, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unsure what Mdann52 is on about, since you *are* autoconfirmed, and should be able to upload files. I get the feeling the upload failed - I'd recommend trying again and see what happens. It should appear in Special:ListFiles/MBA2012E2 if it's successful (and you should get a success message or a failure message too...). [stwalkerster|talk] 17:08, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What is the format of the video that you are trying to upload? IIRC you can only upload video in OGG format, see WP:OGG.--ukexpat (talk) 17:10, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In both cases - the video or the image - you'd need to have the copyright holder contact our permissions folks - the directions can be found at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. If the permission is only "you can use it on Wikipedia" then that's not usually a strong enough release, as copyright holders don't often realize that our content is freely reused by many other projects, including commercial enterprises.
