Disambiguation link notification for March 13

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Earlham Street Market, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Seven Dials (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Egg London

You recently added a peacock tag at the top of Egg London. Since as far as I could tell, your issue was with the word 'notorious', which I have removed, I can see no reason for the tag so I have removed it. If you would care to specify which text is in your opinion additionally at fault perhaps we can move forward from there. - Jackpickard1985 4/4/18 22:10 —Preceding undated comment added 21:15, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:47, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

Coordinates not missing?

You might need to update your code to cope with coordinates fetched from Wikidata - see [1]. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 16:28, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

@Mike Peel: Thanks, will do. Is it a bug or a feature I'm misunderstanding that the Wikidata coordinates aren't picked up by the API, where a display=title would be? (eg. a query about that memorial returns no coordinates, where the same query for the city of London does.) --Lord Belbury (talk) 16:44, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
Aah, you're using the API? There is a bug with that, and I'm not sure why. The infobox uses {{Coord|nosave=1|display=inline,title|format=dms}} - which fetches the values from Wikidata, but somehow doesn't add it into the API. Maybe @Frietjes and TheDJ: could help fix this... Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 17:31, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
@Mike Peel and Lord Belbury: Well that's exactly the function of "nosave=1" <---- ;) I;m guessing someone unintentionally copied that from a sandbox or testcase or something. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 19:59, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
Ah, that seems to have fixed it! I'll check through the other templates using the code and change them in the same way. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 21:38, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

List of diplomatic missions of Slovenia

Hi, the photos have nothing to do with Africa. The photos are placed there so that they evenly sit within the article. If you place the photos in their individual continental section, it makes the photos (in Europe for example) look very out of place and creates unnecessary white-space at the bottom of the article. ADULT. (band)

I am disputing two items here.

The band's name is ADULT. It is not stylized or "Decorative" it is how the band spell their name. If it is not in all capitals and with a period (full stop) then it is spelled incorrectly and thus Wikipedia is in error. Your comment that "Decorative punctuation makes the article text harder to read" is frankly not within your judgements as an editor. Here is a link to the bands video on the subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkgQduEbLig You can also see that all of their sites are www.adultperiod.com facebook adultperiod instagram adultperiod twitter adultperiod

The second is the fact that I spent 5 hours updating an outdated (2007) erroneous Wikipedia page. You deleted everything I did without the courtesy of any explanation. Please start by telling me why you did not allow the discography section to be updated. The information there is fact and non-disputable. Everything can be checked on discogs, the record label's pages (which are all listed), etc.

Hello Lord Belbury, thank you for your efforts to improve referencing for this article. But please make sure to double-check Refill-edits - just like any other semi-automatic edit - for possible errors. Promotional content like "Contribute to ... Beer Die Cups

Hello Lord Belbury,

I am not disrupting the Beer Die page. The information, including the photo of the cup and the rules I submitted, are correct. The page needs to be updated, including the rules and the photos.

I have been playing Beer Die for 6 years and I have never used a solo cup. Solo cups are composed of a single-use plastic called Plastic #6, also know as Polystyrene. Polystyrene is the 3rd most abundant plastic in the ocean and it is more expensive to collect, transport, sift, and recycle, than it is to manufacture! It is horrible for the environment and this page is promoting the use of Solo cups by allowing that image to be posted.

Traditional pint glasses, made of glass and steel are better suited for the game. White ODP cups are used for Snappa and Beer Die. They have no other use.

I do not see how you could view it as promotional if the cup I submitted is only used for Snappa and Beer Die. Where on Solo's website does it mention that their cups are used for regulation Beer Die and Snappa matches?

Sincerely, J — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamalogo10 (talkcontribs) 07:19, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

Sources for card game rules

Hi Lord Belbury, thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I see you've removed a couple of references for card game rules recently, for example, one at Black Peter (card game) linking to the rules at cardgamesplanet.com ("whitespace/spam") and one at Conquian to playingcarddecks.com. ("blog entry from commercial playing card website, inappropriate source"). Now I'd agree that the published books, periodicals and non-commercial websites are generally better sources than commercial websites, but I think the latter sometimes have their place, particularly if the rules they are publishing are not linked to a proprietary product of theirs. For example, Piatnik is a highly respected games manufacturer who publish rules for games that can be played with any card pack from any manufacturer. I have even seen their rules being cited in scholarly sources e.g. by Dummett or McLeod, who are renowned card game experts and historians. Cheers.Bermicourt (talk) 16:08, 22 October 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick response. I did wonder myself if TWUJohn was the John Taylor in question. In which case, I'm content. I was just concerned about a possible blanket deletion of website links when some seem reasonable. Thanks again. Bermicourt (talk) 18:17, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
I agree, and I don't think the articles in question need those links. They're well enough attested in the literature. It looks like promotional linking. Bermicourt (talk) 19:38, 22 October 2019 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Lord Belbury. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account until November 27. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Primary sources

Hi there Lord Belbury, The article I created about the British synth-pop band Gravity Noir is still flagged as having multiple issues. One of them that the article relies too much on references to primary sources. When I search for "how do I use primary sources", I found this: Examples of a primary source are: Original documents such as diaries, speeches, manuscripts, letters, interviews, records, eyewitness accounts, autobiographies. Empirical scholarly works such as research articles, clinical reports, case studies, dissertations. Creative works such as poetry, music, video, photography. The article is about Gravity Noir, a band that produces music and video's. The article sums up most, if not all of their music releases and some of their music video's in the articles discography. An entire catalogue of official releases. Can't these official works of music be concidered as primary sources? If not, I can use some help if possible. Thanks in advance, really appreciated. May the joy and peace of Christmas be with you all through the Year. Wishing you a season of blessings from heaven above. Happy Christmas!! --Trix18365 (talk) 14:45, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

Really Laminar flow in the Victoria Falls

Dear Lord B.,

Yes, File:ASC Leiden - Rietveld Collection - East Africa 1975 - 05 - 042 - Victoria Falls waterfall - Livingstone, Zambia.jpg represents laminar flow where the flow is smooth and linear with no foam etcetera. I happen to be a physicist, former physics teacher and meteorology university lecturer, there is no problem here, it is a schoolbook case. Of course there might be better photographs, but it seemed appropriate to show a perhaps less known waterfall here. I mentioned the swift transition over the ridge :"Laminar (at the ridge) and turbulent flow (immediately downstream with white foam) of the Victoria Falls in the Zambezi River, 1975". So you might reconsider your edit or replace the picture by a better one if you like.. But a real life illustration should be present at the top of the article, not just an artificial diagram. Thanks, Hansmuller (talk) 17:42, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

I added some text and YouTube videos that prove the point. It is shocking to find that the famous textbooks on my physics shelf are not interested at all in everyday life and nature examples, but only in artificial applications of laminar flow in pipes and around aeroplanes with nice mathematics. That's why you didn't find these examples easily. So for now my references are YouTube videos! I was cheeky enough to put my Victoria Falls back for the time being, i hope you'll find a better photograph. (I hope to take some pictures myself, but i am not a great photographer, perhaps you are.) Thanks,Hansmuller (talk) 18:52, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Dear Lord B., thanks for your edits. By the way - although i don't want to be finnicky - mentioning the date of an image (or text) is in my opinion always necessary. Waterfalls erode and retreat for instance, there is always a historical context for everything that the reader needs to know, for instance related to the technical quality of the photograph etcetera. So the year of the photograph should if possible be given. Cheers, Hansmuller (talk) 11:21, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

Megagames

Thank you or your comments. This is my first edit so I may not have understood he procedures.

I may my edit on the basis that Megagame Makers has been the main (and indeed virtually the only) body running megagames between 199 and 2014 and yet received virtually no mention in the current text. I thus consider the article is unblanced. My intention of editing was to make the article more balanced. Additionally, Pennine megagames, another established group was not mentioned at all.

In trying to do that, I've tried to provide links to evidence my edit. Not surprisingly, most of my links are to the Megagame Makers site as it is the only source; there are no secondary or tertiery soucres to refer to. Although I'm a member, and have been from the start, I tackled this is a way I consider to be impartial, aiming for accuracy. The group is a co-operative group, neither I nor any other member is an employee. I did not add matters I could not evidence; as a scientist this is the basis on which I work across my life and activities. I should add that I could see no means by which I could declare any interest except in terms of the editing history. By comparison there are several sections under 'personalities' which are clearly self promotional to which no objection has been raised.

I regret to say that I'm not clear how to proceed from here; I don't appear to be able to publish or further edit the proposed edit to remove an claim of conflict of interest. I'd appreciate your advice on how to proceed.

Brink

Why did you reverse this ? There are several references that the English word 'brink' is an 'edge' or 'border'. And i never 'claimed' that "village greens being called "brinks" in England". ... Also, this is a reference.--Just2correct (talk) 12:32, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

You said here ; "expand from a good source, but I can't see anything about ponds in there, or of cattle being moved from village greens to common land" ... but if you look better at that source ->

"Notable studies which can be considered to have made a major contribution to the understanding ofvillage greens in England are limited to Warner (1987) and Mulders and Van der Wielen (1983) both concerning greens in Suffolk, and to Wade-Martin's work on Norfolk greens. Mulders and Van der Wielen compare these greens to similar features in the Netherlands called brinke. They found that although the greens and brinke originated independently of each other in the same period, the two areas had comparable agricultural systems and the same economic function of a place for collecting and pasturing cattle while also resembling each other in shape and size. " --Just2correct (talk) 12:46, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

That mentions cattle, but not moving them to common land? The impression I got from the paper was that early village greens were common land. --Lord Belbury (talk) 12:57, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

@Steve from NYU: Could you add a source to confirm this, if you've found websites that make it clear? Thanks. --Lord Belbury (talk) 09:42, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
@Lord Belbury: I am not sure if you are in academia, but a couple of gold standards for checking an academic is Orcid and Google Scholar. Because both of those verify the person's Institution. If you look at https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6316-2339 and https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=mP3TUx4AAAAJ&hl=en you can see both list iUniversity as his affiliation. I also read a few articles that state that is his University position as Professor in i-University Tokyo Japan. However the ORCID and Google Scholar are fully independent, so I think we can conclude this is his full time position which should go in the top section. Thank you.
@Lord Belbury: do you think the "weak willie" quote is a bit over the top? Although it is quite amusing to read it, but maybe not suitable for children viewers of this article?

About Revert on 5-Minute Crafts

What was the specific reason that my edit was reverted on 5-Minute Crafts? I fully trust you had a legitimate reason- I just didn't see any description in the undo as to why. Should the wording itself have been altered, or did you think it was irrelevant to the article? I don't think my claim on them being highlighted by the media is unsubstantiated (based on the multitude of reputable sources), however, did I need to phrase it in a way that was "less loaded"? I'm not trying to promote hoaxes of any sort, but I've noticed myself (before any media outlets reported it) strange behavior of TheSoul Publishing. Perhaps you have a suggestion of a more neutral or accurate way to state the minimal political content of the company? I added the same text on Bright Side (Youtube channel) as well. Do you think these two articles should be merged together into one article for TheSoul Publishing? Superdadsuper (talk) 13:57, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello

The links you have removed make the page incomplete - notably the names that are missing from noted shadowgraphers, especially Prasanna Rao, Budrugana Gagra and Drew Colby. Currently the page is very much slanted towards magicians when, in fact, latterly many puppeteers also use hand shadows in diverse ways. This is not acknowledged by the article rendering it un-encyclopediac.

Thanks for adding in that image to the Lesbian characters in fiction page!

That really is a better image for the page! How did you find that? Because I was really struggling to find images for that page and I settled for the Elisabeth Holzleithner image (File:Elisabeth Holzleithner at the European Lesbian Conference 2017 - repost.jpg). I'd be willing to use that other image somewhere, but I haven't figured out where yet... maybe on the Dykes to Watch Out For page? Or maybe not at all? Historyday01 (talk) 15:58, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

@Historyday01: Thanks, I thought I'd check Commons to see what relevant categories existed, and Category:Lesbian pulp fiction has hundreds of public domain book covers. I just scrolled down and picked one of the less lurid ones.
Dykes to Watch Out For already has an illustrative fair use comic panel on it, and WP:NFCCP says that "Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information.", so I don't think you'd be able to add a second one under fair use. --Lord Belbury (talk) 16:32, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
That's a fair point there. Thanks for the tip about that Commons category. I have recently been exploring Commons for other images and have added a lot of cosplay images into a bunch of articles I've been editing recently. I was glad there were some for even little-known characters (like Plum in Bravest Warriors, who is a canon bisexual character, but people don't remember her as much, maybe because Bravest Warriors has been sort of forgotten, even though Ian Jones-Quartey voiced a character in the main cast and he is pretty well-known in cartoon circles for OK K.O.!, a show I'd definitely recommend) If there is enough for that lesbian pulp fiction, I may end up writing an article on that pulp fiction in the future. Before that, though, I have a bunch of possible subjects to examine, as I'm planning on creating. I even have notes for an article (or section?) on slow-burn romances too. --Historyday01 (talk) 16:43, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
@Historyday01: Good luck, I'd also recommend the Free Image Search Tool as an easy way to search for creative-commons/public-domain photos across the wider internet, which can be easily imported to Commons in most cases. Lesbian pulp fiction already has its own long-standing article here at Wikipedia. --Lord Belbury (talk) 16:48, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
I'll definitely do that going forward, thanks for that. There are so many great shows coming up this year, so I'm bound to create more pages too.Historyday01 (talk) 16:53, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

He, she, they

Hi Belbers, thanks for your continued improvements on Wikipedia. I must admit I'm not a fan of the 'singular they' because I've come across sentences, especially in games, where you can't work out if it refers to declarer (singular) or defenders (plural). But neither am I a great fan of "he or she" either, although I've sometimes used it to avoid attracting the gender police. Card game authors take two approaches. Many apologise in advance, pointing out that "he" means "he or she" as it once used to. Others alternate between "he" or "she"; usually keeping to one form within the rules of a particular game, but alternating between games. On Wikipedia that's possible but only works if most editors understand that. Meanwhile, I'm trying to be as creative as possible in avoiding "he", "she" or the singular "they" by finding alternative ways to express the rules in a way that is still clear, succinct and flows well. It can be challenging and sometimes I give up and go back to "he" or "she" as the sources do. I'm glad you appreciate my attempts at this, especially as I won't always get it right! Bermicourt (talk) 22:12, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

@Bermicourt:: Agreed that it can hard work to express a rule clearly with the singular they, but I enjoy the challenge of it. Thanks for catching my oversights when I don't quite succeed. I've always found the "he means he/she" introductions a bit of a cop-out in card game collections, but I guess Wikipedia doesn't even have that option, as it doesn't have an introduction. I haven't been seeking out gendered language to correct, I've just seen a couple of cases recently where a passing editor has changed a single "he" and left the rest of the article untouched. Will always approach it with care, though, when I do. All the best! --Lord Belbury (talk) 22:21, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

A game which starts by playing the seven of clubs is called... Eight of Clubs?

Clearly I don't understand card games at all. :D Wikignome Wintergreentalk 21:18, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

@Wikignome Wintergreen: Yeah, I thought that was weird, but it's what the cited source says. Maybe 8♣ is a uniquely strong or weak card in the game, maybe it naturally ends with that card, maybe it's a joke like the 19 in Cribbage. A Google translation actually translates it as "Crucifixion", so who knows. --Lord Belbury (talk) 09:32, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Checking https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ristiseiska the image caption plainly refers to the seven of clubs as "ristiseiska", so maybe the cited source did get this wrong. --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:16, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Sodor (fictional island) coordinates

Hi Lord Belbury,

Just wondering how come coordinates were added to a fictional place ? It's currently showing as located between Wales and The Isle of Man ? Is that intentional ?

Thanks Exussum12 (talk) 21:12, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

@Exussum12: There's a big map at the top of the article showing it between Wales and the Isle of Man, so I added coordinates to match. Not sure what policy actually is there: I know Wikipedia doesn't add coordinates to book and film articles, but this article is specifically about a place with a very clearly described location, like R'lyeh, so I assumed it was relevant enough to add. --Lord Belbury (talk) 21:34, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
@Lord Belbury: Ah I didn't spot the sides of the map thanks. Yeah I'm not sure either, its interesting you mention films as I found this by looking at a map produced by using wikipedia data to map films to locations. In this case Thomas and the Magic Railroad links to here. Thanks for the clarification! Exussum12 (talk) 21:44, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Freely licensed dril avatar in Extremely Online

You have probably forgotten about the edit in which you removed this image, but to me, it burns like a hot coal in my heart. You have no idea how much rancor has gone down over that tweet embed. Everyone loves to have an opinion about where it should be in the article, or whether it's relevant to the references, or whatever. This rancor has gone down directly onto my head, and now I am like a cartoon character who has been flattened by a piano.

I look like an accordion, and make accordion noises when I walk around, due to the force from the impact of these arguments about the tweet embed.

I do not have a PAG-based argument for the image's inclusion, but neither do you for its removal; I could try to come up with one, but rather than do that, I will present you with the simple fact that we are grown adults ignoring our loved ones to go on Wikipedia and dispute whether the substitute avatar looks goofy or whether it looks more goofy to not have one at all. I beseech you to take mercy on my battered soul by restoring the image. jp×g 11:04, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Mneh, it's inaccurate, it's like illustrating Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker by finding some other photo of him from the 80s and photoshopping the makeup on. The conclusion reached by the image's creator at Talk:Dril#Dril's_Avatar seems like the right call. --Lord Belbury (talk) 12:54, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Your removal of an external link

Good day Sir, after you removed the external link I added on the Otto H. Kahn page, I considered your action and the criteria for your judgement. I then checked out the other external links on the page and I noticed there is one external link titled: ‘Otto and Addie Kahn Home, New York City’ * Otto and Addie Kahn Home, New York City that is a website for renting out the Kahn house on Fifth Avenue as a venue for corporate meetings, weddings, and for film locations, etc. I fail to see why that link has remained but mine was removed. The external link I added contains historical information about the Kahn family, photographs of the Kahn family, as well as information about a book about the Kahn family. I then looked at other Wikipedia pages and biographies and noticed external links on those pages pertain to the Wiki subject, but some of the links are not necessarily about the subject as perceived in the Wiki biography, e.g. there could be an external link that relates to the subject/house/property/ etc. in the present day rather than in the day of the subject. Hence, I have decided to revert your removal as I believe the external website I inserted adds additional information about Otto Kahn and his family that is not included in the Wikipedia article that could be useful to scholars and readers, etc. I thank you for your assistance and effort over this matter, and hope you understand my decision. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Americanhistoryw3 (talkcontribs) 16:20, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

Is the miniature art article misleading in implying that "limning" also referred to sculpture? --Lord Belbury (talk) 07:58, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I think so - didn't see that. "Limning" usually meant drawing a portait, so I redirected to Portrait miniature. In fact I don't think it was really very size-specific. Johnbod (talk) 13:12, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Bethnal Green mulberry tree

Hi, I had tried to move the lead image of the Lamppost poster to be slightly lower down in this article, because it obscures the coordinates information. Is there a neat way of placing the image so it doesn't do this? thanks Stellawisdom (talk) 17:30, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation about the coordinates display bug issue, fingers crossed it gets fixed soon. I'm trying to improve the article a bit more, regarding inclusion of references. Stellawisdom (talk) 17:43, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Gendered associations of pink and blue

Lord_Belbury, nice job finding that very appropriate image for Gendered associations of pink and blue. Do you have any time to look into expanding the article? I'm a bit oversubscribed at the moment and don't know when I'll be able to get back to it, although there's plenty of material out there available on clothing, toys, and other aspects of the topic, so a lot could be written about it. Thanks again for your edit! Mathglot (talk) 18:02, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Thanks! It's not an area I know much about, but I'll watchlist it and at least copy across some of List of historical sources for pink and blue as gender signifiers at some point, if nobody else gets there first. Thanks for creating the article, I too was puzzled that it didn't already exist, when looking for it a few months ago. --Lord Belbury (talk) 18:06, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Notice: Placement of this template here is invalid, and apparently represents an attempt at retaliation or user intimidation by a POV-pushing and edit-warring user at the article COVID-19 anti-lockdown protests in the United Kingdom. In fact, User:Lord Belbury did nothing wrong at that article; to the contrary, Lord Belbury is merely ensuring that the article reflects the universal opinion of reliable sources on this topic. See Talk:COVID-19 anti-lockdown protests in the United Kingdom#Let's not mention capacities for details. Response

With respect to BB gun The one link was not intentional in the markup (thanks for catching it), and the other is clearly a reference cited in APA format, along with being similar in nature to the pre-existing reference, and as such is NOT spam. If you wish to dispute the fact that a cited reference qualifies as a reference, or to remove a reference for some reason or another, you should leave a message on the article Talk page and the appropriate User Page, NOT claim that it is "spam" as a means to be "lazy" with respect to being citing applicable wikipedia policy to support your contentions. I have therefore modified your revision on that article appropriately. 98.178.191.34 (talk) 03:39, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

Please Stop Edit Warring

Please stop edit warring with respect to the article at BB gun. The purpose of the given citation is with respect to a demonstration of FPS in actual practice. The link was clearly NOT inserted for commercial purposes, and your continue accusations of WP:Spame are baseless and without foundaton. If you feel this is not correct, you can leave a remark on the article talk page and let soemone else do the edit. If you continue to edit war, you will be subject to the appropriate reporting and proceedings. Again, please STOP. 98.178.191.34 (talk) 20:01, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Milkshaking

Boy, you really fouled up the Milkshaking article. I did NOT add "original research" to the article, but rather general knowledge. The piece DOES need some sort of mention that riot-thrown "milkshakes" often contain more than milkshake. The piece DOES need some sort of mention that riot-thrown "milkshakes" often have results other than wet hair and clothes. NONE of this is "original research". These are important facts which you thoughtlessly deleted. Please fix your mistake. 11:47, 9 July 2021 (UTC)KyZan — Preceding unsigned comment added by KyZan (talkcontribs)

Omaze Lead

Hi, I believe the information I added in the article is repeated from the "Model" section, where it is cited. Per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Lead_section#Citations, it's not necessary to repeat redundant citations in the body of the article within the lead. Thanks. -- 17jiangz1 (talk) 09:10, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

@17jiangz1: Thanks for clarifying, I see what you're referring to now. If you're changing figures in a sentence which already has a citation, I guess it's clearer to add another source, or to drop the one that's there. I'll sort it out. --Lord Belbury (talk) 09:22, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Choking

I recently edited the choking article to clarify that latex balloons are the leading cause of choking death for children among the choking deaths in which children choke on children's products. This is included in the article cited in this section: "Of all children's products, latex balloons are the leading cause of choking death, and most of these fatalities are among children younger than 6 years."

@MattmanCastle: You're right, I was reading the wrong section there, the one that puts the figure at 29% unqualified. My apologies. I've added this back to the article. --Lord Belbury (talk) 14:28, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

How to examine if a website is reliable source or not?

I added a citation in Tourism in Nepalfrom thepronotes.com which you said is an unreliable source. How to exactly know what is a reliable source? thrpronotes.com is one of the leading educational portal from Nepal which contents are reviewed by researchers and teachers. So, isn't it a valid source?

JUNE 2021

Sir, I politely informed you that the dedicated website to Otto H. Kahn and his family link that I included on the Otto H. Kahn wikipedia page has additional information and pictures of the subject and his immediate family that is not included on the Wikipedia page and would be invaluable for students or general researchers of the subject. Your failure to understand this, leaves me to regard your actions to remove the link, not once, but twice, as misguided and incorrect. It is a dedicated website to Otto Kahn and his family. How it can have no relevance to the Wikipedia page for Otto H. Kahn I fail to see. I can point you in the direction of thousands of Wikipedia pages that all have associated external links to websites that deal directly with the subject matter. Your twice removal of the link I added therefore warrants me to wonder if this is a form of internet bullying? I understand you have no right to remove a link without having an open discussion about the matter beforehand. This you did not do. You went ahead and removed the link upon your own decision, nobody elses. I therefore expect you to return the link. If you fail to do so, it will leave me with no option but to lodge a complaint.

Broken Tweet

please elaborate on what you mean by "broken tweet", i saw nothing wrong with what was written, i dont think it linked to twitter.

Hi. This is Greg Walsh. I made the edit to the ^ degrees of Kevin Bacon to remove Chirstian Gardener. We work for Endless Games and specifically with Brian Turtle. One of hte creatorsof the game. No one has any idea who Christian Gardener is. There are only 3 creators of the game. Youc an even see the interview form the Jon Stewart Show of the three men who created the game. My source is Brian Turtle himself. Im not that great with managing Wikipedia so if you can email directly, [email protected] or even call 203-216-6101 that'd be really helpful. thank you.

Regarding Auto Clicker Edits

As a responsible Wikipedia user, I added vital information on the wiki page about Auto Clicker. The page really needed valuable content for the readers such as Applications and popular auto clicker software which I added. Regarding the reference spam, I do not own the website I linked nor I am affiliated to it. I simply searched for the popular auto clicker software and cited the first link from Google. I strongly believe that all my edits are adding value to this page for the readers and should be restored. I also plan to add more content to this page but wanted to clarify this with you first. Hope you understand that Wikipedia is for the readers to have the best information available on the internet.

Gender neutrality

Hi LB and thank you for your continued improvements to games articles. I think we just need to be careful that in trying to solve one problem (gender neutral sensitivities) we don't introduce another (confusion over who is meant). I'm not against singular "they, them, their" but my experience of trying to minimise the use of "he" etc, especially in card game articles, is that it can result in a lack of clarity e.g. "the dealer deals three cards to each player, face down. They then pick up their cards and may exchange them with the talon." Are we talking about all the players now or just the dealer? Most card game compendia, in English or German, use "he", but apologetically explain in the intro that this is for clarity and brevity only and that they intend it to be inclusive. One female author uses "he" and "she" in referring to specific players which works quite well. But this is Wikipedia and we don't set the rules. I usually try to minimise the use of "he" or "she" by recasting the sentence or by pluralising it where that makes sense e.g. "players, in turn, may reveal their cards..." This goes a long way to avoiding gender specific words, but there are some sentences that are almost impossible to recast, so as an absolute last resort I may go for "his or her" provided there are no more than one or two occurrences in the article. It's all quite faffy; much easier in the old days when people were educated to understand that sometimes "him" was a male pronoun and sometimes a "neuter" one. But that understanding's been lost to all but the older generation who can't understand what all the fuss is about! Cheers. Bermicourt (talk) 17:04, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

@Bermicourt: Thanks for taking the time to pick up after me on this one: I do try to keep the clarity in mind on these articles and appreciate the scope for confusion when explaining a game, but clearly took my eye off the ball in a few places there (and didn't even mention it in the edit summary!). Appreciate your skill at picking out the cases where recasting and/or the passive voice can save us from having to use any pronoun at all, I'll keep that in mind in future. --Lord Belbury (talk) 17:18, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll confess this is not an easy area and I'm having to be quite inventive. It's far easier when I write journal articles because readers are more focussed on substance than style. Bermicourt (talk) 18:25, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

Odeon Luxe Haymarket

Hi, can you check out my comment on the talk page of this article please - you've managed to get two completely different cinemas muddled up. The current cinema is what used to be the Odeon Panton Street, a short walk from but completely different from the old Odeon Haymarket (formerly the Gaumont) which closed down in about 1996-7. You can find photos of both online easily enough.

I'm surprised nobody has picked up on it in the two years since you made your edit, but there you are. It's probably better if you fix it rather than me if you take an interest in these things. Regards,Paulturtle (talk) 00:43, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

User talk:97.99.90.245

I noticed that you made comment on User talk:97.99.90.245 "Hello, I noticed that you may have recently made edits while logged out".

We discussed this on October 7. I understood the concern when it was pointed out and I apologized for it here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Psychology#Need review of broad deletion of_usage of category, template and links to "Psychological_manipulation"

I've made 181 edits since October 7. Clearly 5 of those edits (trivial edits) occurring on the 11th were made while I was not logged in. I had no idea that I did this, but those are my edits for sure. Is this what you are flagging or is there something else that is problematic that I am not seeing/aware of?

Wiki-psyc (talk) 23:28, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

@Wiki-psyc: Yes, I'm just drawing your attention to it. Please do try to log in. --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:01, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
I don't think the situation called for that.
LB, I greatly respect the work you are doing at Wikipedia. You make many more edits than I do.
I am well aware that Wikipedia has a vandalism and a troll problem. But Wikipedia also has an over-policing problem - a lot of good faith edits/editors get swept up into overzealous efforts to combat vandalism. Rather than encourage and coach editors, the higher priority is to hunt bad guys and many good people are treated with suspicion and disrespect as a result. This is well documented in critiques of Wikipedia.
Respectfully, my logged out editing is permissible, see -->Help:Logging in#Editing while logged out. It is not grounds for a suspension warning. None of the logged out edits violate WP:SOCK
I am suggesting that you be careful not to be overzealous in your efforts to combat vandalism - just as you made a constructive suggestion to me.
That said, I still respect your earlier suggestion that I post from my registered account and I have been (and will continue) to do that as much as possible (note: 98% of my last 187 edits were logged in). Additionally, I will note the IP address on my talk page so there is full transparency.
I have been making good faith edits, on and off, for seven years and I hope you will take my suggestion as constructive (as I have taken yours) and recognize that I am a good faith editor, just like you,
Wiki-psyc (talk) 12:42, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
@Wiki-psyc: It's a quick and standard talk page template, which was intended as a reminder to you and some context for anyone who might have reason to visit that talk page in the future. If you understand it, that's fine. --Lord Belbury (talk) 12:51, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
My understanding is that making edits while logged out is not against policy, and in and of itself, does not qualify as multiple accounts nor does it warrant a warning. See WP:LOGGEDOUT. I'd to encourage you to be mindful of WP:HOUNDING. "Hounding usually involves following the target from place to place on Wikipedia." If you believe the 5 edits you flagged qualify as WP:SOCK, please explain how, or otherwise please assume good faith and not post generalized warnings. Thanks. Image choice for Video Game

Hello Lord Belbury! I'm just curious why you chose an image for someone playing American Truck Simulator as a replacement for the Pong image on the page Video game. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:41, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

@Blaze The Wolf: MOS:PERTINENCE. Better to have a picture that shows a videogame being played in a regular kind of context, on a computer monitor with a game controller, than a special custom Pong game on a giant fake TV screen and console that doesn't exist outside of that one museum. No reason for choosing that truck game in particular, it just struck me as a good, natural photo from a quick scroll through https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:People_playing_video_games. --Lord Belbury (talk) 15:01, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Coordinates missing template

Thanks for marking articles as missing coordinates! I've got only one request; although using {{coords missing}} works, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could use the template {{coord missing}} instead, as it would make managing the templates slightly easier. -- The Anome (talk) 14:17, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

@The Anome: I'll try to bear it in mind, I guess I'm tending naturally to "coords" when I think of it because there are two of them, latitude and longitude. What difference does it make in practice? I thought that the templates were all functionally interchangeable. --Lord Belbury (talk) 14:26, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
They all end up transcluding {{coord missing}}, but it makes the manual part of my work a bit easier if the template can be referenced directly, instead of indirectly, in the articles. -- The Anome (talk) 14:32, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
@The Anome: Okay, well, I'll try to keep it in mind, but "remember to write it the way you wouldn't normally write it" is always a tough mental note to follow, so apologies in advance for any templates of mine you find in the future. --Lord Belbury (talk) 14:59, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

Revert on The Spectator

The reverts were rubbish, a well known fact needed to be on the article and as it was 1. Not controversial it does not or barely needs any ref or back up and 2. Was totally non-productive and 3. Just wastes time and 4. Lessens the encyclopaedia. The Original Filfi (talk) 10:43, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

@The Original Filfi: Calling a magazine "purple-faced" because a columnist said it once is a good edit that improves the encyclopedia and requires no further time expenditure, is it? The second paragraph did already say "politically conservative", if you missed that. You're still also lacking a source for the claim that "The Spectator Australia is more right-wing than the British publication". --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:55, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
Your revert I was referng to above was not the purple-faced one, the purple-faced was my third edit and was sourced (and added out of frustration for these poorly thought out reverts), but that is not the point, the first two edits said right leaning which is correct and common knowledge, the Australian almost far-right opinion pieces is also common knowledge, however if you had an issue with that add the citation tag or re-edit it down a notch, do not revert, just horrible waste of time, see points 1 to 4 aboveThe Original Filfi (talk) 03:09, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
@The Original Filfi: Got it, you were disrupting the article to make a point. Please don't do that. I've flagged your take on the UK-vs-Aus editions as original research if you still aren't interested in providing a source. --08:59, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello, between me and the painter, who approached the art of digital painting recently, there is only one knowledge that has allowed me to appreciate her works. @Frediemie: Both: don't use a poorly-written blog on a commercial website as a source (a blog entry that seems to have been written at the same time you added it to Wikipedia?), and don't mark your edits as "minor" when they aren't. --Lord Belbury (talk) 14:49, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
Anyway, thanks but you know some of the dead link resources not even available on Wayback machine and the original sites aren't accessible anymore. Guess, blog with related updates should be a consideration. Nevertheless, fine, fine..... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frediemie (talkcontribs) 15:49, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
@Frediemie: No, a badly-written blog entry that quotes the Wikipedia entry it's being used as a source for should never be considered as a resource. --Lord Belbury (talk) 15:53, 12 April 2022 (UTC)

Dead cat strategy image

This cat doesn't want to be used as an example

not sure it helps to illustrate an idiom with a literal image, and the fact that this red-splotch photo looks superficially like a violent death (until you read and understand the caption) makes it almost as WP:ASTONISHing as an actual dead cat photo would be here

Or, it perfectly illustrates the subject of the article by distracting the reader for a moment. ;-)

To be honest, I was just seeing how long it would last as one of those rarely kept humour elements here; just over an hour. I'll wait another decade before trying another. (Hohum @) 21:01, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

@Hohum: Oh, right. I guess people having different senses of humour is one of the reasons why Wikipedia shouldn't try to crack jokes. --Lord Belbury (talk) 21:17, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
I was aiming for the edge of relevance but apparently missed. With all the crap currently going on, I hope you'll forgive a harmless attempt to lighten the mood. (Hohum @) 21:33, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
@Hohum: Sure, and forgive the deadpan policy response, it was written on the assumption that you meant the edit seriously. --Lord Belbury (talk) 14:44, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

Facing an issue to publish the Wikipedia page.

Hi, I am facing an issue to publish the Wikipedia page. Can you assist me to make it live?

This is the page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Torglenn1776/sandbox#Tor_Glenn_Melhus, It's currently saved as a draft, I need to publish it live. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Torglenn1776 (talkcontribs) 16:34, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

@Torglenn1776: Hi Tor. The one to publish would be Draft:Tor Glenn Melhus, just make whatever edits you want to that page and hit the "Submit for review!" button when you're happy with it. I can tell you now that it won't be set live until it has at least two secondary sources on it, though - see WP:BASIC - so you'll want to add some examples of press coverage or awards or similar. --Lord Belbury (talk) 16:48, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Surrender Dorothy.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Surrender Dorothy.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --evrik (talk) 13:50, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Birth, Death and Marriage Records

Hello,

I note your comments regarding birth, death and marriage records. However, this is crazy; these records are maintained by the National Archives, an office of the Department for Digital, Cultura, Media and Sport - a department of the UK Government. You are saying that we cannot accept the UK Government's own records as a "reliable source" but the wiki community seems quite happy to accept newspaper reports, many of which are significantly less reliable. Utterly daft.

the largest and smallest moto services in the uk

Hi lord belbury, The source that I got for the largest and smallest moto in the UK is on a Twitter DM from the official Moto account. Is there a way I can screenshot it and send it to you so I can prove it's a reliable source please.

Thanks for considering.

Rock balancing

Your personalizing the content dispute at the Rock balancing talk page, which has been going on for a while now without my commenting on it, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated indefinitely. [3] Geogene (talk) 11:59, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

@Geogene: You've reverted every edit to the article since May, with no attempt to integrate any of the added content, I would call that WP:OWNERSHIP. Claiming that an open RfC about scope can only achieve "progress" if I tell you what wording I want and you tell me what you think about that only reinforces that perspective. The RfC and the article would get along fine without any further input from either of us. --Lord Belbury (talk) 12:09, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
I don't think that RfC is going anywhere. It's attracted some WP:IJUSTDON'TLIKEIT commentary, but those are not policy-based arguments. And you're not proposing alternatives of your own, so it looks like an open ended argument. Geogene (talk) 12:13, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
The RfC will close with an independent call being made either way on the scope of the article and whether "rock balancing is a form of vandalism" is a useful framing. Editors can discuss specific wordings after that has happened. --Lord Belbury (talk) 12:22, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
Hello. I see you restored a personal attack with this edit, in addition to an unsourced/OR rant that is a violation of NOTFORUM. [4] You have crossed the line, and we now need administrator intervention in this dispute. Geogene (talk) 07:08, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi. I was restoring three deleted comments, where your edit summary deleting them was "not a forum. Go ahead and follow it up..." and didn't state any objection to the language used. I'll notify the user of NPA and ask them to retract. The main comments you deleted are a bit tangential but I wouldn't say they were entirely off-topic. --Lord Belbury (talk) 08:14, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Well, you should read the content first, before knee jerk reverting it then. It seems obvious enough that that's what you did. Geogene (talk) 16:45, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
I considered whether the content was off-topic forum chat before restoring it, and decided that it wasn't. But sure, let's both be considerate when reverting in future. --Lord Belbury (talk) 17:04, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

Decentralized autonomous organizations

Hi Lord Belbury,

I added a citation that shows the LLC registration of the Cyber Republic as a registered legal entity. Surely that constitutes a reliable source.

Kindest regards 149.22.64.178 (talk) 09:08, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

When you click to edit Decentralized_autonomous_organization#List_of_notable_DAOs it says "Only add names here if the organization has their own article on Wikipedia, or if you can provide an independent, reliable source that establishes its membership in this list's group, please. Anything else will be removed."
LLC registration and press releases are not independent sources. --Lord Belbury (talk) 09:16, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

XCOPY's CC0 Releases

Hey Lord Belbury, Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia and for the message on my Talk Page.

I wanted to tell you that, before making any edits or reverts to XCOPY's page, I opened a new section on their Talk Page and sent an Email to the Wikimedia Commons VRT, providing proof and explanations of anything concerning Right-Click Save As, CC0/Public Domain License and artist's releases. I hope my contribution will be enough for you to make edits and for it to be clear to everyone. Thank you! JohnnyCoal (talk) 11:51, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

@JohnnyCoal: Thanks, VRT would be perfect if that's an option.--Lord Belbury (talk) 12:01, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm DeFacto. I noticed that you made a comment on the page Talk:Greased piglet that didn't seem very civil. Wikipedia is built on collaboration, so it's one of its core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. DeFacto wrote, "@Lord Belbury, this (as was the discussion at talk:dead cat strategy#RfC on examples, an RfC which went against your view anyway) is about the application of Wiki policies related to OR, synth, and due weight, and nothing at all to do with personal politics. And as I totally refute your allegations, which seem to say more about your personal agenda than mine, and suggest you strike that unfounded personal attack, which has no place on this article talkpage. -- DeFacto (talk). 10:01, 25 July 2022 (UTC)" [5]. That looks as civil as what Belbury wrote. Proxima Centauri (talk) 11:03, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

Hey Lord Belbury.

Belbury, ("The Scariest Picture on the Internet (REAL).") is Sonee/Princess Ruu/The Melancholic Princess. And the painting is not just in YouTube. it's in the Whole Internet. And the painting was in fact drawn by ArtStation artist Robert Chang. WHY? The girl who painted the painting is not real. She was just made up and she just wanted to portrait a girl who was separated from his father King. If the people looks at it for more that 5 minutes, The girl's emotion will change from depressed to a simper. LA938215 (talk) 06:24, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

@LA938215: If the New York Times article (which describes it as a YouTube video called "The Scariest Picture on the Internet (REAL).") is out of date or incomplete, you need to add other, reliable sources to support the additional statements that you're making about the artwork. --Lord Belbury (talk) 07:57, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
OK, I understand. LA938215 (talk) 05:20, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Cap badge article

Regarding your edit there, have you seen the greater variety of photographs of badges on commons? Here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Cap_badges Dreddmoto (talk) 22:15, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

@Dreddmoto: I didn't look that far, the one that was already further down in the article seemed fine, with a bit of cropping. You're welcome to change the lead image if you think a different example would be more illustrative of the concept. --Lord Belbury (talk) 13:25, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

I don't know, perhaps. I just wanted to show you that there are more choices of photograph available. Maybe one of these? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:OSCE_cap_badge.jpg or https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:P%26O_Cruises_-_Officer_Cap_Badge.jpg You can choose. --Dreddmoto (talk) 19:05, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

@Dreddmoto: Seems better to show a photo of a cap on a person's head, to me, for clear context and scale. --Lord Belbury (talk) 19:35, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for replying. That last point was helpful to me. --Dreddmoto (talk) 21:59, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Ghost hunting and charlatans

Hello, I recently received the following message from you, after linking the Wikipedia page on charlatans, to the ghost hunting page: " Hello, I'm Lord Belbury. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Ghost hunting seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Lord Belbury (talk) 07:58, 27 July 2022 (UTC) "

I responded in the reply underneath the message, but since you asked me to message you on your talk page if I believed the edit was a mistake, I'll post my reply here as well: " Ghosts are objectively fake. Ghost hunting is often done by individuals who are taking advantage of the ignorant for profit and should link to the Wikipedia page on charlatans. That page discusses famous spiritualists who have been caught lying and faking evidence of ghosts with pseudoscience. Please consider adding the charlatan link back to the ghost hunting page, for the sake of truth and to protect the innocent people who are being lied to." Thank you for your consideration, sincerely, Michael Leary Michaelterryleary (talk) 02:16, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Dead character costume main image

Hey thanks for the quick edit and for finding the NCIS pic. I think that's a great additional image. However like you said the quality is lower and I'd also prefer to keep it consistent with the images of the scrubs pic. I have a lot more pics from a recent short we did and will upload that instead when I get around to it :) Cheers Adenosine Triphosphate (talk) 16:43, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

@Adenosine Triphosphate: Sounds great, my main consideration was avoiding the repetition of an image within the article. --Lord Belbury (talk) 16:45, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
yep no worries cheers :) Adenosine Triphosphate (talk) 16:46, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

I kinda want to use the pics with the squibs as an 'easter egg' in some of the articles like jacket and down jacket (with or without mentioning it explicitly in the caption), thoughts? Adenosine Triphosphate (talk) 21:50, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

@Adenosine Triphosphate: Sorry, didn't occur to me that this was intentional, I thought you must have added them before uploading the non-squib images.
That kind of secret content goes against some of the style guide. There's one actually called MOS:EASTEREGG which discourages links that only make sense after the reader has clicked them (so we shouldn't casually write about a parka with embedded squib implying that it's a regular part of the jacket, it should be written out in full that it's a bullet squib for a film shoot), and MOS:IMAGEQUALITY prefers images that don't have unnecessary extra details (Rice is best represented with an image of plain rice, not fried rice).
Using a photo with a squib without mentioning that fact would be okay, Wikipedia often uses a photo with some weird photobomb or other detail if it's all we've got. If we have a choice between two photos where one has a surprising detail and one doesn't, though, it'd always be better to use the plain one. --Lord Belbury (talk) 08:42, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
alright, cheers, you seem to be quite knowledgeable in this regard, much appreciated. i was also curious to see if anyone would notice the squibs on the clothes - normally in many movies they are still quite visible (but in theory, they should be quite well hidden), so they usually get the actor to change clothes just before and cut to the scene where the person gets shot. i'll keep working on these topics as I think it's been long overdue to have it on wikipedia. a lot of information on the internet is just patchy.
how did you first come across these articles by the way? they are quite niche topics to search for! Adenosine Triphosphate (talk) 18:48, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
@Adenosine Triphosphate: I saw one of your photos go up on Commons and went through to read the article. I always like reading up on niche topics, to learn something new and to maybe fix up or flag some obvious errors or omissions. Nice to see an expert offering their knowledge, and particularly good to see someone contributing professional photos to articles that lack them. --Lord Belbury (talk) 08:06, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

About this sock puppetry, I am sorry. However, I would agree to halting completely if you please, please let the page I indicated here alone. It is an honest addition.
