GOCE July 2013 news report

Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter
  • Participation: Out of 30 people who have signed up for this drive so far, 18 have participated. If you have signed up for the drive but have not yet participated, it isn't too late. If you haven't signed up for the drive, sign up now!
  • Progress report: Thus far we have reduced the number of May/June 2012 articles to just 124 articles, so we're on the right track. Unfortunately, for the first time in GOCE history, the number of articles in the backlog has actually gone up during this drive. While all participants are currently doing a fine job, we just don't have as many of them as we have had in the past. We have over 500 editors on our mailing list, but only 18 editors who have done a copy edit for the drive. If you're receiving this newsletter, it's because you have an interest in copy editing. Join the drive! Even if you only copy edit one article, it helps. Imagine how much progress we could make if everyone chipped in just one article.

The Wikipedia Library

Hey! I've done a major redesign of The Wikipedia Library portal. As one of our original volunteers, I'd love you to check it out, pick a role, create a profile to share your story and skills, sign up for the newsletter, and see how you can get involved. I'd also be interested in having a skype chat with you in the next few weeks to see how we can best put your energy to use (or email if that's better for you). Hope you're doing well, Ocaasi t | c 13:25, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Dear Livitup, Thank you for the suggestion . Please give me more time to find other cites and add more meat. Also, please could you help me. I am always looking to work with other on makeing good articles with great cites. Thanks. Geraldshields11 (talk) 14:12, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Somebody else has tagged your article for speedy deletion, so if you are going to look for more sources, you should contest that... follow the instructions in the red box in the top of your article. The other option you have is to work on it in your Userspace until it's ready for prime time, and then move it in to the main wiki when it's ready. If you have any other questions, let me know. LivitEh?/What? 14:19, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. Please help with the edits. Geraldshields11 (talk) 16:32, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
Dear Livitup, I followed your advice and moved the text to my sandbox at User:Geraldshields11/sandbox/femspyww2. Then, another user deleted my sandbox area. Please help. Geraldshields11 (talk) 22:48, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
I see you contacted the admin who deleted it, and got a copy emailed to you. I suppose this closes the matter for now and you can work on it offline. When it's in a good state for a starter article, copy/paste it back into the Wiki. Let me know if there's anything else you would like me to do. LivitEh?/What? 15:34, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

You marked this article as reviewed. Are you aware than an editor asked for it to be created at Articles for Creation 6 times and was rejected? Are you aware that another editor (actually the same one using a different account name) created it directly and had it tagged as non-notable, so that the article was speedy-deleted? What criteria, exactly, are you using? Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:08, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

I was not aware that it was rejected 6 times at AFC. My criteria is WP:N, which this article barely seemed to meet based on the coverage in industry magazines (yes, I realize that one source is a blog, but it's the blog of an industry publication), and being cited in a book that I don't have access to, so I assumed good faith. It doesn't hurt my pride any that you CSD'ed it; for me it was a coinflip and I'm not going to cry if it gets deleted. LivitEh?/What? 21:15, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Got it, thanks for the come-back. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:37, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

Since you've proposed the deletion of that article, it's been edited. It's about a movie with an international cast, it's on IMDB, and there are two newspapers as sources. I hope you find that adequately verifiable and notable enough. – Tintazul msg 13:14, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Indeed, the two newspaper sources make it notable enough that I'll not propose any further action. You should realize, however, that IMDB is not considered a reliable source by Wikipedia, and that a movie having an IMDB page does noting to support notability. For more information, see WP:RS/IMDB. LivitEh?/What? 16:05, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the review of the Patrice Arent article. --Thelema12 (talk) 17:08, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Talkback

Hello, Livitup. You have new messages at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Briz District.
Message added 09:54, 10 September 2013 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Based on my readings of the archives, articles on barangays are kept on a case-by-case basis (usually if they have some significance), while non-notable ones are merged, either to the municipality/city's article, or to a "List of barangays in X" article. You can check the archives of Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines for the actual discussions (as you can see, the notability of barangays has been a problem of the WikiProject since pretty much the dawn of TP). Than and happy editing. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 09:54, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
