Welcome from Ravedave[edit]

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome. -Ravedave 18:14, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Conads20001.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Conads20001.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 07:43, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Fad Gadget - Fireside Favorites.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fad Gadget - Fireside Favorites.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:56, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Paul Slocum[edit]

A tag has been placed on Paul Slocum, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Realkyhick 21:37, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:A2600 Space Invaders.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:A2600 Space Invaders.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 16:05, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Josh, I like your map (though it's not correct fully) Got a PSD/PDF/PSPIMAGE of it? Misou 03:05, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you indicate the source and copyright status for the map here ? You missed Slovakia and I would like to change it a little but can't do it as long the copyright status is not clear. I assume you used the [1] BlankMap-World.png wich is under a free license and you could use the same type of free license.-- Stan talk 03:40, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, a neat map that. Now I'm going to quibble!
The best list of Orgs is at http://www.churchofscientology.com/ Smi.org you got, the best for Missions. See my list at http://www.daisy.freeserve.co.uk/stolgy_5.htm which uses both.
The labelling could be misinterpreted as each country having one branch! 'Countries with Scientology Churches'/'Countries with Missions only'?

'Countries that recognize Scientology as a religion' is meaningless I'm afraid. Some countries (eg Taiwan) have a government approval system for religious organisations but most do not. Usually it is branches of government - the tax authorities for example - that have to make such decisions, and their rulings are not binding on their governments. In my country for example (UK) recognition is mixed, the CoS has some tax exemptions but not others. The UK government does not however recognise the CoS as a religion having no authority to do so for any religion aside from the two Established Churches, such would require a major constitutional change.
Besides, 'religion' gets you into the "no it's a cult" debate. It would be better as a simple 'Orgs and Missions' map I think. Countries with ASOs would be a better third color. --Hartley Patterson 09:53, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I apologize for not answering anyone's questions until now. I obtained the information from a detailed list of all Scientology orgs online. It made a distinction between the missions and the actual churches which is how the differrent colors came into being. Anyone who would like to improve it or make it into a vector image is absolutely encouraged to do so. I think someone already has. LittleRoughRhinestone 17:19, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate images uploaded[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Iran USA Locator.png. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Iran-US Locator.png. The copy called Image:Iran-US Locator.png has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. License tagging for Image:Israel Zimbabwe Locator.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Israel Zimbabwe Locator.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:05, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Teisco logo.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Teisco logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. A tag has been placed on The Grape requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. File copyright problem with File:Scientology presence worldwide.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Scientology presence worldwide.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:36, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Would you be willing to answer a short 5 minute survey? If so, please email me at [email protected]. It would be helpful if you could include your Wikipedia username when emailing.
