Hi, I'm a newer editor with a question about my edit adding the term "physician" and instead reverting to the term "animal rights activist" on this page [[1]]. The cited source does not use the term “animal rights activist.” Also, "animal rights activist" is a contentious label that lacks precision. See this Wikipedia guidance on Biographies of Living Persons:
“Do not label people with contentious labels, loaded language, or terms that lack precision, unless a person is commonly described that way in reliable sources. Instead use clear, direct language and let facts alone do the talking.”
“Material that may adversely affect a person's reputation should be treated with special care.”
The term “animal rights activist” can be an inflammatory term and connotes a person involved in street-level activism. The cited source (a 2006 article by Meredith Wadman) did not use the term “animal activist". Also, if one were to include Wadman’s opinions in Wikipedia, they must not be stated as facts, but as opinions attributable to her, and should not be placed in the first sentence of this Wikipedia profile. (See Neutral Point of View: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view.)
With all that said, could someone help me understand why my edit was reverted? What is needed for this change to go through? Ldc6 (talk) 23:09, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Animal rights activist" is not a "contentious label." That's pretty much it... A type of cabinet (talk) 22:24, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
