In question: that Thomas Hinde was the surgeon in Benjamin West's portrait of the death of General Wolfe

Hello,

I have always understood that the surgeon in this painting of Wolfe's death was Dr John Adair, who was my ancestor. I have read discussions about this portrait character's identity but I have never read that the surgeon was Thomas Hinde, as you suggest. Can you provide proof that this is so? I have just looked up references online from the British Museum and the National Portrait Gallery of Canada, and both give Adair as the doctor.
