Kyriakos, I reverted your edit to the Australian totals in the above because I cannot see why you say there's only 156 bios done. If you look at Category:Australian ODI cricketers you'll see at the top it says "There are 159 pages in this section of this category.". Subtract one for the list itself and we have 158 articles.

- Kyriakos, I'm unsure of what "full list" your referring to. In List of cricketers and List of Australian ODI cricketers, there are blue links to Rod McCurdy (was previously Rodney McCurdy until 16/2) and to Graeme Porter (was previously misspelt as Graham Porter until 16/2). So both of these full lists show 100% (ie. 158) articles completed.

Preventing an edit war on the saints
It was the established operation of the WikiProject Saints to have a section in the info box on a sample prayer. Some editors have been recently been attacking this in the individual articles.
It is my belief that prayers in a literary or historic context are NPOV. I can understand that some may consider the inclusion of a prayer to be hagiographic, but freedom of religion is not freedom from religion.
There is a 3RR about to happen on a number of these articles. I am trying to be philosophical about this, but donât want to yield the point when what is happening goes against the consensus and borders on vandalism.
It is my understanding that if an editing disagreement occurs that the status quo, in this case leaving the prayers in place, holds until it is resolved. I encourage you to comment on this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Saints. I have posted my thoughts at the village pump.

Homosexuality in Ancient Greece
There was a revert war going on in that article. I added a section which shows other scholarly opinions which suggest most Ancient Greeks did not practice homosexuality. It was immediately reverted even though I gave sources. The only reason they had was because it was done by a sockpuppet. If YOU go to that article and go to "history" and revert to the last edit by james577 we can add some truth to it. And they won't have an excuse since you are not a sockpuppet. I want you to revert back to the revision of james577. The only reason it couldnt get done is because it was done by a sockpuppet. If you do it, they will have no reason to change.
- Hi, Kyriakos. James577, Tame500 and Sam328 are all sockpuppets of the banned user Cretanpride. He's been upset for several months now about the article Homosexuality in Ancient Greece; he seems to think that it defames Greek history and culture. As it happens, the article reflects a widespread scholarly consensus, that a certain form of homosexual behaviour was a widely accepted part of ancient Greek culture in the city-states, and other forms were discouraged and stigmatized; it doesn't say that all, or even most, ancient Greeks practiced it, though Cretanpride seems to think it does. The article used to be more one-sided, but now mentions the minority view that homosexual practices were largely limited to the aristocracy; however, this isn't good enough for Cretanpride. After several blocks for edit warring, 3RR violations, disruption and sockpuppetry (see here), Cretanpride was banned, but he's continued to create sockpuppets and try to push for his POV. Cretan War
Unfortunately this project is actually inactive, because its founder could not and still cannot energetically participate for some reasons. I now saw you had submitted the article for A-Class status in the Military project. If I knew it I'd have voted (not that my vote would change everything). When I return from Myconos in a couple of days, I'll go once again through the article and I'll do some prose tweaks. I think the article will finally pass A-Class Candidacy. - I have now finished copyediting the article. Sorry it took so long; I just forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me though! I have one inquiry in particular now that I've given it a second look....towards the end of the Piracy and war section, you describe the battle between the Macedonians and the Rhodians in a somewhat disjointed fashion. For example, in the following paragraph the Macedonians are doing well:
- With the treaty concluded, Philip's army then attacked Ptolemy's territories in Thrace. Then the Macedonian fleet headed south and took over the island of Samos, which belonged to Ptolemy V, and captured the Egyptian fleet stationed there. The fleet then turned north and laid siege to the island of Chios. The combined navies of Pergamum, Rhodes, Cyzicus and Byzantium under the command of Attalus and Theophiliscus of Rhodes attacked the Macedonian fleet under the command of Philip between Chios and the mainland of Asia Minor. Attalus' group of ships were separated from the rest of the fleet and were pursued by Philip but managed to make it to the mainland. He thought that his enemies would catch up to him so he scattered coins from his treasury ship on the sand so when the Macedonians landed would not chase after him but instead would stop to gather the loot. When Philip landed and found Attalus' ships abandoned he thought that the Pergamese monarch had perished. He then towed off the ships that Attalus had deserted on the beach. Meanwhile Attalus escaped to Erythrae.[14]
- But then, the next sentence reads:
- The battle turned to the allies' favour and the Macedonian fleet was routed. The Rhodians and their allies then returned to their base in Chios.

I went once again quickly throught the article. It looks fine. My major concern is that users who are often reviewing in FAC like Raymond Palmer were not positive. I also think that all the concerns have to do with prose and typos. The references and the photos are fine (although you still don't have pages in two of your citations!).
UberCruxic obviously upgraded the prose level and it might be OK in FAC as it is now. But again I think it'd be a close call. The ideal solution would be a second independent copy-editing. If I had to suggest a second copy-editor, I'd definitely suggest User:Robth, who is, according to me, the best copy-editor around in military history articles. But I know that his program is more than full right now! Even if he does not have the time to copy-edit, you could politely ask him to review the article.
If you think that this plan for a second copy-edit-review is diffucult to be implemented, then go yourself once again line by line through the text. It does not matter if you have read the article 100 times already! Once again! And very very carefully! In order to correct typos and prose deficiences you might unexpectedely find. And then go for FAC and be ready to give your fight!

GA review
Hi, thanks for the contact regarding this article. It's great to see you have taken the review on board in a positive way.
The article appears most interesting but needs alot of work to take it forward, particularly if you would like it to reach GA status.
One of the best ways to get high quality feedback is to visit Wikipedia:Peer review and follow the instructions there.
With regards to your question about pictures however, are there no pictures from the Sparta or Roman related articles from which you can use? Are there any of the sites, weapons, armour etc? Famous statues, art, portraits of commanders?
Two major issues with this article are the excessive introduction (see WP:LEAD), and the limited range of sources (consider visiting other online encyclopedias for references (Britannica, Encarta etc)).

My opinion
Kyriakos, just be careful with Jhamez84's suggestions. I know he wants to help, but I'm afraid some of his recommendations could harm the article. For instance:
- "Nabis, the tyrant of Sparta, gained the Spartan throne in 207 BC after he deposed (not "disposed") the rightful king.": This sentence is NOT biased. I believe Jhamez84 is wrong. I don't know why he regerds it as POV. Maybe because he misunderstood the word "tyrant". In any case, I regard your description as historically accurate. Think twice before you change it!
- The lead of World War II is a bad bad bad example! Your lead is a bit long, but, don't use the lead Jhamez84 mentions as an example. Just follow WP:LEAD's instructions.
With some tweaks your article is an easy GAC. After all, it is awarded A-Class status by the Military Project, which is above GA status! Regard the GA nomination (if you still want to go on with it) as an additional review before FAC. And don't take for granted what the GA reviewers say! They are often wrong I'm afraid! At least in FAC you (usually!) have more than one reviewer! Τα λÎμε!--Yannismarou 20:26, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

The Achean league itself was very reliant on Roman protection and support, so anything under "Achean protection" was in fact under Roman protection in case it mattered to Rome. - I don't mind Holleaux. He can say what he wants, but Livy is a primary source and if he says Rome you have to mention it (of course you mention both versions in this case). Holleaux needs to source his claim with a primary source that the free Laconians were an Achean protectorate (as far as that is possible, because primary sources don't mention the Acheans acting a lot on their own). I've made a few comments at the nomination page. On the whole, I think what the article needs is a careful rewrite to try to contextualize things a bit. Gruen should be helpful here. But really, what it needs is a bit of time and reflection. So I suggest that you wait a day. Read the Gruen, think about it. Read the article, think about it. You'll need to add {{Random portal component}} to the main portal page, then create a set of numbered subpages (e.g. Portal:Military of Greece/Selected article/1, Portal:Military of Greece/Selected article/2, etc.) for it to rotate through. For my frankness and lack of explanation. I attempted to provide ideas but may have fallen short. These points will be added to the FA page.
- Livy too heavily depended upon
- Article doesn't compare to current FA in the category of war. Algerian Civil War was the example I found. Of course less information may be available due to the historical nature of the article).
- Article failed GA status (possibly at quite an earlier stage but I was under the impression that the article was quite young) and so would be better suited being put through that again (I know not an argument per se but I wanted to point it out). Ciraric 22:45, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Re: Treaties
If those treaties had something to do with military affairs, wars, etc., then yes. (It should be noted, of course, that most peace treaty articles tend to wind up getting merged into the associated war articles; it's only a small number of treaties that really warrant full articles of their own.) Numbers of Spartan troops
do I count right if there are 30,000 Spartan troops? 15,000 stationed in Argos, 10,000 citizens, 3,000 new mercenaries and 1,000 basic mercenaries + 1,000 specially selected? =30,000 + citizens from Argos? Wandalstouring 20:04, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Roman-Spartan War
I found out some minor infomation about the Spartan armour of the time. They used a Thracian helmet which had no nose guard and left more room unprotected at the front of the face than the Corinthian helmet. Kyriakos 00:17, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Some issues on the Roman Spartan War
While most editors probably won't notice and let the article pass FA, there are some issues that remain unclear.
- Why did all naval powers of the Aegean sea and Rome have such an immense interest in hindering tiny Sparta from building some ships?
- How exactly were the Spartans armed. Sparta had hoplite units for the longest time and made their shield longer and thus heavier, but also the lances longer and shorter swords. and traditionally they could have quite a lot of light infantry. It isn't clear whether the neodymen that compromised the majority of later Spartan troops used a similar equipment or were armed more like the rest of Greece. Furthermore there was the introduction of a throwing spear(xyston) among hoplites so while we lack sources it may be possible that the Spartan troops fought with throwing spears and afterwards a hoplite phalanx.
- It isn't clear whether the numbers belong to the army or navy and how many of them were Romans, Acheans, etc.
- Writing more about the short lifed military and social reforms of Nabis could help to give more background info. See for example Battle of Marathon
- What happened to the Spartans who were too poor to be full Spartans? were they restored by Nabis? Did they help with military know-how?
- How did Nabis rise to power. Perhaps give a short explanation why the time before Nabis was considered one of Sparta's weakest and that he was not the first tyrant + short note on the Agiad- Eurypontid conflict ending the dual monarchy
- Machanidas (a tyrant) 210 - 207 BC
- Pelops (Eurypontid) 210 - 206 BC - last King from either of the old dynasties, opponent of Machanidas.
- I think there is a problem with the copy-right tag of Image:Ancient peloponnese.jpg.
- In "Notes" Cretan and Lance need some citing IMO.
- Before going to FAC check once again typos and possible prose deficiencies.
- I don't know if the lack of a map of the military campaign itself will count in FAC. For me it is not that important, but I cannot predict other users' stance.--Yannismarou 14:32, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Siege of Paros
ΧαίÏεÏαι. The Persian Wars box was expanded by me several months ago mostly to show how wide the conflict was. It contains already several errors, having Sardis third instead of second. I am not sure if Paros is part of the conflict since it was a war among Greeks and if we are to add Paros why not add the war betzeen Aegina and Athens which is more relevant? In any case a better time to discuss the issue which is purely theoretical is after the article is written Ikokki 16:06, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Pfff!! I know the problem. There are indeed overlaps. And the WP:GREECE is not actually working! It looks like a dead project. After all most of the Wikipedians know WP:HOG and not WP:GREECE. Merge seems the most reasonable solution. But I'm really not sure which project should be merged to the other! WP:GREECE is dead but with a broader scope! WP:HOG is working with more members but with a more limited scope. On the other hand we must see what should be done with the archives of WP:HOG. And if we merge the last one into WP:GREECE will all the members of the first one accept to be members of the second one? I don't know ... Having initiated WP:HOG, I don't think I have the clear mind needed in this case; maybe I'm not so objective in this case.

Re: Maniots
I suppose that it would, to an extent; but the article is getting to be quite long. I would actually suggest splitting out much of the military history to a separate article (or series of articles); e.g. Military history of the Maniots, Military history of the Maniots in the Ottoman period, etc. That would both allow for a broader overview article (the Maniots do have non-military aspects to write about, after all) that wouldn't be absurdly long, and neatly solve the scoping problem. Hi, about your suggestion of first hearing Deucalionite: there is a little problem, I'm afraid. It just so happens that I had to block him for an extended period of time just the other day, over an unrelated issue of image copyright. The timing is intirely incidental, I can assure you, although he'll probably think I just wanted him out of the way. Now, we have four options: wait till he's back; get his input only through his own talkpage; get him unblocked to enable him to participate; or simply go ahead regardless of him. To be absolutely frank with you, I'm biased in this matter, as I have a history of rather negative interactions with the guy, and I have no confidence in his ability to contribute constructively to such a discussion. My honest opinion is that the article is better off without him, and so are our chances of continuing to have a good constructive collaboration. But of course I'm aware it would be unfair if I used my own block in order to force this through. All I'm saying is, we have no moral obligation to wait for him, and I'd personally recommend we shouldn't. If he really wants to contribute, he can always get his block lifted by some other admin any time, by simply promising not to continue doing what got him blocked. But I doubt he'll do that. I'm not sure I really see the point of having our own version of it. If we don't want to follow the outside process, we could just as easily condense the scale; there's no particular need for a level between A-Class and B-Class. (Essentially, our B-Class is going to function as a GA-like process, with a single reviewer evaluating based on set criteria; a separate version of this for GA seems like a waste of time.) Sorry, for the delay in responding, but I did not forger. The problem is that during the week I also work and I do not have mush time for WP. Well, let's start:
- Roman-Spartan War: I cannot predict the outcome of a new FA. It may succeed, because it is now better, I would support it, but I do not know what the others will do. One reservation I have is that the article already has two failed GACs. I may not agree with GAC's reviewers decisions, but they are official decisions whether we like it or not; and they are quite recent. I'm afraid this may influence FA reviewers. I suggest you get the article first through GAC, and then go for FAC.
- I'll check Maniot in detail during the weekend.
- I saw you are in editor's review. Do you intend to run for adm?

Eretria
Hi Kyriakos.
Sorry for my late response old friend, I've just been quite busy. Firstly, I'd like to thank you for that Barnstar, I am honoured to be given that by a Wikipedian who obviously knows his stuff quite well. But now let's get to business shall we LOL. I received your re-route link to the talk on the Siege of Eretria, and now realize what they are looking for. I'm going to try to make the wording stronger. One problem is that they want more and different sources, which will be rather difficult because that engagement is rather a minor one when compared to Thermopylae, Salamis etc. Thus Herodotus is the only significant authority on the battle. I'm going to try and look for modern analysis on the battle and try to incorporate it. By the way, I wanted to add that if you have any particular articles you are working, please don't hesitate in telling me, I would be quite happy to assist and copy-edit them and add whatever insight I may have on them. That Roman-Spartan War seems to be really coming along.
By the way, just one question regarding the functioning of Wiki, is there any particular and effective way of finding the number of edits one has? It has really puzzled me, how do I count them all up, there is just a giant list. LOL. --Arsenous Commodore 21:53, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Roman-Spartan War
Could you look up the exact Greek terms (in Greek letters) for full citizen Spartan, Lacaedomonia and Sparta in old Greek, prefereably Doric or Koine. Modern research literature often uses exact old Greek terms rather than transcriptions. Possibly this can also be added to other Greek terms, but note not modern Greek, Doric or Koine. How to proceed on Roman-Spartan War
You have the rare luck that someone with a professional background reviews Roman-Spartan War. This is a good start to turn it into an extraordinary work. Perhaps you can remember when the article was entirely referenced with Livy. In this case you were criticised for not using modern scholarly literature. Your reaction was to replace the quotes from Livy with references to modern scholars who referenced their statements from Livy. A better approach would have been if you didn't remove the references to Livy, but mentioned secondary and tertiary sources that supported the interpretation of Livy you chose to present, but without any need to replace the Livy inline citations. What Semperf essentially wants is the Livy and Polybius referenced version. Furthermore he objects to some of your secondary sources because their factual accuracy may be flawed, while others are recognized works. As far as I can see you quoted nothing important from these sources, so I suggest to remove them and work together with Semperf to bring any sections that are based on these works in accordance with primary and recognized secondary works. Hi Kyriakos. I'm in the process of striking some of my comments that are no longer relevant or that I no longer care about.
- One of the things that still needs to be fixed is in the formatting of references:
- in italics with the double-single-quotemark '', but the italic is not ended with another, but with a single double-quotemark ("). The result is this: Holleaux, Rome and the Mediterranean; 218-133 B.C", 190. This needs to be fixed.
- Also, is there no way to replace the Smith? Semperf 14:57, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi Kyriakos, I'm happy you've been easily elected coordinator for the Military History Project :-) Don't you think it's time for a nice RfA? Obviously I don't have to be necessarily the nominator, as you may prefer Yannis, as you've collaborated so much with him. What I'm afraid is severely prohibited is to refuse: sadly WP:SECRET CLAUSES makes it clear (if you know the clauses that is ;-)) that acceptance must be prompt and ready ;-) Now, you don't want to violate them, do you ;-) Come on, another secret clause promises a piece of cake for those who partecipate to a RfA. Laconian War
I just found out that you're the creator of the article, so I guess it will be easier if you perform the move. My move was reverted, eventhough it was a clear WP:NAME issue. The 'Spartan-Roman war' name doesn't exist anywhere, nor does it describe the conflict correctly. "Laconian War" exists in English translations of Greco-Roman texts and is therefore not OR. Do you agree to rename the article temporarily to "Laconian War, at least until the most popular name is discovered? In my opinion this is it. Hi Kyriakos, sorry for awnsering so late to your question, but wasn't sure how to awnser, so I first decided to consult a friend, and had to wait for his response. After the consultation, two possibilities emerged: 1) let the RfA reach its natural end, and use the negative votes to better yourself, so, if unfortunately you don't do it this time (remember you need 80% supports, 75-80% bureaucrats decide), you will be in a stronger position next time. 2) withdraw from the RfA, by removing your nomination (that is taking away {{Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Kyriakos}} from the WP:RfA page), if you feel the chances to reach consensus are low.--Aldux 17:56, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- Advice: don't withdraw! It is going to be a close call, but, in any case, even if you fail, it is not going to be a "humiliating defeat" (a 68% percentage of support is nothing but himiliating! Raul recently promoted an adm with 69% per cent of support, but there was strong reaction to his decision! Maniots
Hello adelphe. Yes, I too am ecstatic to see the Maniots article finally reach GA status. It took some pushing, but it was worth the effort. As for your request to make the Maniots article reach FA status, I'd be more than honored to help you. I believe that before we set out respective goals towards making the Maniots a featured article, we should take concrete steps to first ensure that the article first reaches A status. With that base in mind, we can then work to truly crafting an article that all other encyclopedias will envy.
To the best of my ability, I have been monitoring our behavioral dynamics. They are as follows:
- 1) Deucalionite: Creates article.
- 2) Kyriakos: Expands article.
- 3) Deucalionite: Edits article.
- 4) Kyriakos: Edits article.
- 5) Deucalionite: Polishes article.
- 6) Kyriakos: Polishes article.
- 7) End Result: Article acquires better rating.
Notice the pattern? Of course, there is always the reverse to look forward to:
- 1) Kyriakos: Creates article.
- 2) Deucalionite: Expands article.
- 3) Kyriakos: Edits article.
- 4) Deucalionite: Edits article.
- 5) Kyriakos: Polishes article.
- 6) Deucalionite: Polishes article.
- 7) End result: Article acquires better rating.
Overall, our respective abilities are compatible and also reflect our respective interests in ensuring that Greek historical articles are accurate and comprehensive. Of course, I will honestly tell you what I can and cannot do before we decide to expand further the Maniots article and refine it to a significant degree. I recommend that we conduct a simple "abilities assessment" in order to ensure how we can help each other.

Athens, history of a major power in ancient Greece is a potential wikireader I do have in mind. Major issues are fairly well covered with FAs. In my opinion, especially the editors from Pericles and Alcibiades are capabale of extraordinary works and with their help we could create an excellent wikireader. I already discussed the idea with Yannismarou. He is supportive, but lacks time to do the whole task. Could you help to set up the project. - A wikireader is complete book or a collection of essays that do have a common theme. They are created from the material we do have in article form.
- In this case I suggest to create an overview of the history using chapters. These chapters do essentially contain articles or material from articles. Intermissions such as short biographies(the parts that are not part of the main text) or essays on different additional aspects can be inserted into the main body. GAC backlog elimination drive

Also, the links to Livy in the Nabis article don't work either now. It seems that the url for all the references is no longer http://mcadams.psc.-etc., but -posc-. Thus Vulso's triumph is at http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/txt/ah/Livy/Livy39.html, and one only has to change 39 to 38 to make it work. I hope this helps. Hello. I am currently trying to contribute to a battle in respect to giving a reason why a Viking force had to withdraw from a native attack, which I think was instrumental to the article itself and since the person in question received her place in history for that act. Its my understanding that Wikipedia is meant for contributions, but the people at that region see fit to leave the situation vague. They have told me that I cannot simply copy and past from references and, in short order, I re-wrote the small addition in my own words. I don't see what the problem here is, however, they simply revert my edits and give me vague conclusion to why they have done so. The site is intended to be used for non-commercial reproduction so we have no problems in copyright infringement. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. InternetHero 23:00, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
