I don't see much evidence that you're a habitual flamer, so I want to be clear about something: I like pretty much everything you've listed on your userpage. I live not far from your former base of Tacoma. I have VHS and DVD copies of the movie Valley Girl, plus the dynamite soundtrack. I can tell you every single Roxy Music ever released. And instead of looking for any common ground we might have, you came with both guns blazing. You could easily have made a positive first impression if you'd just asked why. BTW, I did study very hard the list of tags and so think I might know which one would be the best one for the picture should I ever get the chance to actually use it, but I still really need help with the rest. And the link you provided me was only useful if I'd been interested in copying information from one website, which I have never been interested in. I wrote my text as an original product, created after doing lots of careful research of the band's history. That was the easy part. The whole photography thing is what's giving me a massive headache. I'm sorry it's such a pain, but it is important for Wikipedia not to accept photographs without clear license information. If it doesn't already have a free license of some sort and you can't contact the photographer (like, if they died) the photograph cannot be used. Sucks, but true. I've only been at this site since April, so you really are helping out a n00b to the site, someone trying to get a feel for it. And I appreciate your assistance. You're quite welcome. Finding images that you haven't taken yourself that have a suitable license is a tricky thing for almost anyone. If you do hear from the photographer you'll need to make sure he/she understands the ramifications of a GFDL license (per Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission). Many professional photographers have quite a negative response to this sort of license (You want what? Anyone can redistribute this image, and even modify it, and I don't get a nickel? What's wrong with you?). I think the only reason the text part works as well as it does (and there are plenty of text copyright violations) is because of the disclaimer on the text entry box. If you enter text here that you originally write, by entering it you've agreed to license it under the GFDL. Lots of folks in the software world get this concept, since it originated with the open source movement. It's perhaps not as immediately noticeable, but licensing the content here under GFDL is as unusual as letting anyone update the content. -- Rick Block (talk) 02:48, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Re. Colin Thurston and "Heroes"

Hi mate, thanks for explaining where it came from. Sorry if I seemed to give you short shrift when I changed it, normally I'd talk to you first but I'd double-checked all my main sources like Buckley and Pegg, as well as a few spots on the net, just in case I'd missed something - I own vinyl and CD versions of the album (for what it's worth, it's my fave Bowie, just nudging out Station to Station) and knew it wasn't there. Discogs has just got it wrong. However I agree with you that Thurston deserves more credit than he seems to get. Some album articles credit engineers and some don't - I don't but I never remove those credits when I see them, I'd just like to see it consistent. Anyway, it's simple enough to see Thurston gets more credit - why not create an article for him and throw in a discography - do you want to start it or will I? By the way, one album he did co-produce with Bowie (and Iggy Pop, but all were uncredited on the sleeve) was Lust for Life - check out the article I wrote for it. New Wave Wikiproject

A great idea, and hopefully this will lead to some consistency between the articles. I have noticed that on your proposal page you mentioned that post-punk would be addressed to some extent since one site includes post-punk bands. It's true that in America most every punk-influenced band was called New Wave by your average Joe Modernrock, but really post-punk and New Wave were two separate yet parallel movements that emerged from the immediate aftermath of punk. Books about rock music tend to discuss the two separately, and books like Simon Reynolds' Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984 delineate the genre pretty definitively. However, what I suggest is that the project cover BOTH, rather than treating one or the other as subordinate to the other. Call it "Wikiproject:Post-punk and New Wave". That way the project has a broader scope yet excellently fills the gap between the Punk and Alternative Wikiprojects. WesleyDodds 10:50, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

for fixing a reference footnote in the Scars article I'm largely responsible for. I didn't bone up on Wikipedia footnote referencing as much as I should've. Though I did get a lot of footnote training when I was a senior in high school and a freshman in college, the whole thing about where to put the footnote numberings wasn't really covered. I was looking up information on Kajagoogoo and wondered where Pemberton was (I r American) so I clicked on the article linkage and, after clarifying the disambiguation on the Limahl bio, was surprised to find Limahl not listed therein. So I would definitely check up on whomever added that information to the bio to see where they got that information from for sure. (I'm too lazy to Google now.) Of Scars and albums

Just a note, the move button at the top of the page does everything you needed to do to get Scars (Scars album) to Scars (Gary Moore album). Right now I've tagged the latter for a history merge, so as to fix it.

Re Peel Sessions artists

Doesn't look like it will, at least for the time being. If some weeks/months from now Peel Sessions artists appears at CfD again, you could copy-paste its members' names onto a page in your own userspace (e.g. User:Krushsister/List of Peel Sessions artists) as a kind of backup, especially if you think the outcome will be the category's deletion. If it looks like people would accept/support a list rather than the category, you could then copy-paste (or just move) User:Krushsister/List of Peel Sessions artists to List of Peel Sessions artists. Hi. I highly appreciate your cooperation and response. Unfortunately, a list would not work. Not only would it be unwieldy (with over 200 items, the list would take ages to load up), it wouldn't concisely group together the musical artists who have done at least one Peel Session...

Well, faced with deletion or a not-very-useful list (in userspace), I'd take the list, otherwise knowing who/what was in the category would be lost (or at least a hassle to recover). It should be a while now before anyone sends Category:Peel Sessions artists to CfD (unless they don't notice it's recently been discussed) and that while could be very long, if ever at all; I'd say there's plenty of other categories that are closer to deletion, most yet to appear on CfD!

Hey, you had the chance to make your case to keep the category. If you couldn't, with your vastly superior knowledge of The History Of Music and all, convince people that the category was worthwhile, then I guess that speaks to your ineffectualness. The information is preserved in list form, so maybe you should spend more of your time working on that and less time worrying about my taint. Otto4711 05:07, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

• So...why exactly is it my fault that you didn't have the chance to comment on the CFD? If you have a problem with the way the CFD was conducted, then take it to WP:DRV instead of leaving crank messages on peoples' talk pages. Consensus is loud and clear about categorizing people by their performances and the Peel Sessions were deemed to fall into that category. As Otto said, the info wasn't deleted, it was converted from a category into List of The Peel Sessions artists. The conventional wisdom is that the category system doesn't work very well with this kind of thing. A tagging system might, but we don't have one. You could take this to Deletion review to ask for it to be turned back into a category, but you can link a list to related albums, and include bands that we don't have articles on, and add commentary. You can't do any of those things with a category, so this is really a chance to improve things.   As Angus suggests, Deletion review is the place to start if you want to try to restore the category; given Fred's comments, it sounds like there's something to consider. However, as Angus also suggests, a list may be an improvement, as links to the tracks performed during a group's Session could then be included. (I haven't heard anything billed as from a Peel Session for a long time, so hope this applies.)  Either way, my understanding is that nothing is necessarily deleted forever, so please keep contributing!  Best wishes, David Kernow (talk) 10:58, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
