G'day!

G'day there, Kiran90, and welcome to Wikipedia! Good authors are always welcome on the project, and I hope you like the place and decide to stick around!

Sometimes new editors find it useful to review our "five pillars", all you need to know about editing in "wiki markup", or this detailed tutorial. The stuff we all really need to know is best summed up here: write from a neutral point of view, play nice with others, and don't let the rules get you down. If you have any questions or need any help, my talkpage is always open for business, or you can see Wikipedia:Newcomers help page. Here's a tip to start you off: if you type four tildes (~~~~) at the end of any messages you leave on talkpages (like this one) Wikipedia will automatically insert your name and the current date and time after your message. Cool, eh?

By the way, I'm going to take a punt in the dark and say you're Australian. If so, excellent! Aussies make good Wikipedians (yes, oh yes, we do). You may be interested in Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board, where Australian Wikipedians occasionally meet to try to help coordinate our efforts. Again, welcome to the project, and happy editing! fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 13:40, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

- For the record, i know very little australians my age who actually say "G'Day", but.... yeh... --58.162.103.251 11:45, 26 August 2006 (UTC) (Kiran90, not signed in) now stamped Kiran 12:03, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Gday there!

Regarding your edits to Anglican Church Grammar School, I reverted the claims as they were large, and unverified, which is not to say they do not belong but there needs to be some way we can verify the information. Welcome to Wikipedia btw! Ansell 10:11, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

To sign edits on pages the easiest way is to put 4 tildes "~" after your edit. Ansell 11:00, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I am not (yet) expressing an opinion as to the substantive edits you made to Brisbane Grammar School, but removing links to the references is unproductive. Please at least avoid doing that. --Nlu (talk) 17:14, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough. Notice the comment on your talkpage and thanks for the tip! Kiran90 10:13, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

THE WIKIPEDA IRC SPAM PROJECT IS RECRUITING NOW

WHY ME
Your recent request to use VandalProof software has been refused as you have too few edits to the English Wikipedia.
We need editors to look through recently edited pages and decide whether the links are spam or not.
If the link qualifies as spam, you will need to revert the page to remove the link and warn the 'spammer'.
This will increase your edit count and allow the VandalProof team to approve you in future !
In fact, the Wikipedia IRC Spam Project shares many VandalProof administrators and users.
HOW TO JOIN

  • 1. Install an IRC client.
(ChatZilla, IceChat and X-Chat are free. X-Chat works on all platforms) - a full list is available here.
  • 2. Visit irc://irc.freenode.net/wikipedia-spam
This channel lists, in real time, all external links added to Wikipedia.
Around 50% of the links listed are suspicious and need to be checked.
We flag especially suspicious links in RED.
  • 3. Begin Checking Links
Click on any diff (the Wikipedia URL) listed in the IRC channel to begin checking and reverting as necessary.
    If you revert, remember to place a spam warning {{subst:spam1}} → {{subst:spam4}}
We need to be able to block persistent spammers just as we do persistent vandals.
  • Remember - If you need help or admin intervention visit irc://irc.freenode.net/wikipedia-spam-t

POLICY Before you begin, please read WP:EL and WP:SPAM. These polices are the basis of spam fighting.

Copyright violations

Please do not copy and paste text from other sources, ie bgs website. Wikipedia cannot accept text that you have not written yourself. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 09:02, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

There is so evidence of copying. Copying a bunch of text and then saying, "the school sumarises it thus" is not good enough. Either re-write the entire text in your own words or stop editing. If you don't stop violating copyright right now, I will block you to protect Wikipedia. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 10:16, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

You can use direct quotes, but you have to be specific about referencing the source (URL, book details etc). Sarah Ewart (Talk) 10:32, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I'm having a very hard time believing that you have written this text [1]. I've been through it several times and I believe it has been lifted from a school brochure or something. Words like "cohort" just don't ring true from your messages to me. Further more, it reads like a publicity brochure, not encyclopedic text. I'm deleting, please don't readd it at the present time. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 10:47, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

You have already attempted to insert slabs of copyright material and I strongly suspect you are trying to again. Next week I will be sending the text to BGS and if they recognise the material as their own, you will be blocked. If they say you have written it yourself, you may use it. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 21:56, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

If you attempt to insert that text in the meanwhile, I will block you. I am not going to warn you again. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 21:59, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I did indicate the source. I said in the edit summary that it has been copied from the BGS site. [2]. I believe it has been taken from a non-internet source such as a publicity brochure, diary etc. It is pr material. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 01:18, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

I know this is different material. I'm saying that you lifted the first version from the school's website and I believe the new version has been taken from non-internet material produced by or for the school. Furthermore, it is not encyclopedic, reads like PR material and is not suitable. I doubt you are able to provide relaibale sources to verify most of the claims in that material, which is required under Wikipedia policy. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 01:33, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

It's not my version. If you find copyright material in any articles here, remove it. Just don't replace it with copyvios of your own. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 01:35, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

See above. It's not my version and if you find copyright material on Wikipedia, you should remove it. Even if it means cutting an article back to a short stub. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 01:36, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

No, that's not how we do it. We cut out the copyright material. We don't replace it with new material which is unencyclopedic in tone and a likely new copyvio. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 01:39, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Under the GFDL licence, we can't keep text that is copyright. I encourage you to write an article on your school, but please do so in a neutral WP:NPOV tone and without copying material written by others. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 01:50, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

That template is a talk page template, not an article one. I moved it to the talk page. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 04:54, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

3RR warning

Also, you need to be warned about 3RR violations.

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 01:44, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Your signature

Could you change your signature in your preferences please. At the moment when you sign your talk page posts, you're creating a link to a page in the article space called Kiran90, rather than your user page User:Kiran90. Just go to Special:Preferences (or click on the "my preferences" link at the top) and change your signature to something like: "[[User:Kiran90|Kiran90]]". Thanks. — Moondyne 13:50, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Blocked

Kiran, I've blocked you for persistently posting copyright material you have lifted from BGS and then blatantly lying about it. You've had (and ignored) plenty of warnings and I simply cannot let this go on any longer because it makes the Foundation vulnerable to legal action. Copyright violations aren't just a policy matter, it's also a legal issue. I really didn't want to block you but you left me with no choice. Currently your block is indefinite but I will review it and set a time limit once I've had a chance to look closer at your contributions. If you wish to respond, you may reply here on your talk page or you may email me Special:Emailuser/Sarah_Ewart. Sarah 05:16, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Kiran, per emails, I have unblocked your account. Please, if you are unsure in future, ask me or another admin for help. That's what we're here for. If you want to start the year with a clean slate, feel free to archive this talk page. Sarah 15:09, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Seeing your question on Sarah's page, I'll respond anyways. There's a couple of different methods, explained in detail at Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask either Sarah at her talk page or me at mine. If you wish for someone to archive your page for you as you don't feel comfortable doing it at this stage, that's fine, and you can ask either Sarah or me. Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 09:26, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
