The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page

Alessio Cerci picture[edit]
About this image, I need some written statement from the author where he/she states the picture is ineligible to copyright. In this sense, I would suggest you to upload this picture in the Wikimedia Commons using the OTRS validation system (here for details). If you fail to comply with these requirements, I would be necessarily forced to consider deleting the picture. I am involved with copyright violations in a daily basis, including false licensing (e.g. pictures taken from newspages but uploaded here as "claimed" GFDL). - Good to know. I was concerned by the fact the Flickr version of the picture is styled as copyrighted ("all rights reserved"), rather than made available with a Creative Commons license (a feature allowed on Flickr pictures). Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Allegro non Troppo LOW.jpeg}[edit]
Thank you for uploading Image:Allegro non Troppo LOW.jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. A question regarding Allegro non troppo[edit]
Hello KingPenguin. I was noticing the good work that you have done on the page for this gem (POV I know) of a film and I was wondering if you might be able to answer a question that has come up. Last night I rewatched Fantasia 2000. I then had to pull Allegro... of the shelf and view it again. Both films use Stravinsky's The Firebird but the renditions are very different from one another. So much so that I almost thought that the subtitle translation in Allegro... might be wrong. On playing it back I realized that it was I who was mistaken. As I researched it here at wikiP I found that F2000 used what is called the "1919 Suite". So my question is do you happen to know which of the other three versions of this music is used in Allegro...? I note that the page for Allegro... lists the segments played as the - The Princesses' Khorovod and The Infernal Dance of King Katscheï - but, I still think that they must be from one of the other three Suites as the PK segment is in both films yet sounds very different. If you do I think that the info should be added to the page for the film. If you don't please don't worry about it, I'll keep searching to see if I can come up with anything. Hello... thanks for all the hard work. However, it appears that a lot of the links you are adding are to one specific site (Kidzworld). I'd like to ask that you please avoid over-using one site, given that there are numerous more established reference sites available, and that the KW site has recently been spammed across Wikipedia. As well, much of the text you have used Kidzworld to reference could easily be referenced from the game itself, or from the manufacturer, given that they are plot-related details. AS Roma images[edit]
Hey KingPenguin. Sorry I had to delete the images for now, but there were just a few little doubts. Obviously, it's an unusual situation we've got here. In short, it's proving hard to show that the copyright holder knew what she was doing when agreeing to release the images. Instead, could she send an email to [email protected] asserting, in a believable fashion that she is the copyright holder and that the images are public domain. Just saying "no copyright" implies she didn't think there was any to start with (which there is). Obviously, there's the translation issue; that address can handle emails in Italian and English. The process would be:
- Upload again (to commons)
- Put {{OTRS pending}}
- Get her to email that address as above
- Wait for her OTRS to be approved.

Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]
Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive[edit]
G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
- updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Backlog Banzai[edit]
In the month of September, Wikiproject Military history is running a project-wide edit-a-thon, Backlog Banzai. There are heaps of different areas you can work on, for which you claim points, and at the end of the month all sorts of whiz-bang awards will be handed out. Every player wins a prize!
