Compact TOC

It isn't clear to me why you are using the Template:Compact ToC on Scottish island featured lists, which, on my browser at least, simply removes the TOC. I am removing the template from these articles. Ben MacDui 10:41, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

I should have verified that the parent category Apinae had a subcategory Bumblebees, and made sure each of the parent categories listed the subcategory up the chain, rather than adding in each child node to all categories. The problem was that I was giving each node multiple parent categories rather than defining a hierarchy.Kibi78704 (talk) 04:15, 31 August 2014 (UTC).

Thanks, I've unblocked you. Please be careful when mass-adding categories ... the current category structure is there for a very good reason. (For future reference, to make a category display inline, put a colon before the category name like Category:Bumblebees ... see the wiki-markup). Also, I don't think adding the same navbox to zillions of articles is a good idea without restructuring it or making new ones, but you'd have to talk to the people more experienced with navboxes about that. While checking your earliest edits from yesterday (UTC), I noticed your creation of categories such as Category:Apidae, Category:Nomadinae and Category:Xylocopinae. Hopefully I've preserved all the articles in the last two categories during my mass-rollback of your edits, but I accidentally removed almost everything from Category:Apinae. I don't know anything about this subject (the bumblebee article is only on my watchlist to protect it against vandalism), but it seems that almost everything in Category:Apidae can be wholesale moved (not copied!) to Category:Apinae, but I'll leave you to do that if you like since you know the subject better. Tools that make these category manipulations far easier are HotCat and AutoWikiBrowser; if you'd used those tools (especially the first one), I might've understood what you were doing a bit bit better). Sorry if I was a bit heavy-handed earlier, but your rapid changes without explanation completely freaked me out. Graham87 07:18, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Actually, I believe I created the categories ApiNae, Nomadinae, and Xylocopinae, which are subfamilies of ApiDae. It took me most of the day to do that work, and I no longer have the time (or heart) to repeat it. I was trying to make comprehensive lists in the categories of the all existing bee articles. Please stop spamming the category "Honey Plants"

I have just reverted about a dozen of your edits where you added the category "Honey Plants: to various articles. Article categories have to comply with the standard rules of Wikipedia, meaning that they have to be referenced and notable. If the article never mentions that theplantis a honey producer, then you can not add it to the category "honey plants". In the vast majority of the revisions you have been making, there is no mention of the plants in question being important honey producers. In one case, the Honey Locust, the article actually states that the plant is never an important honey producer. SO please stop making these endless additions to plant articles until; you can provide a reference within the article that the warrant inclusion in the category. Thank you. 3) Using Wikipedia articles as sources for other Wikipedia articles in the manner that you are doing is strictly forbidden. See WP:CIRCULAR

4) It is forbidden specifically to stop this sort of thing happening. The articles on Honey and Monofloral Honey don't quote any sources. The Honey article even tags the section you are using as "Citation Needed". You are using that unreferenced (and provably incorrect) information to reinforce any erroneous information it contains. That is verboten. You need external references on the page that you are adding the category to. If you want to include Honey and Monofloral Honey in the category Honey Plants, that's great, but you can not extend that top other article unless it specifically noted n that article, not just in other Wikipedia articles.

5) You aren't even using those sources correctly. Neither article never lists Honey Locust, for example, as a honey source. That's something you appear to have invented yourself.

6) I can't even see what the category "Honey Plants" is meant to include. If it is going to incorporate ever plant that might conceivably be use by some species for honey production, as you are using it by incorporating entire genera of wild plants, it will run to over 3 million entries. I'll raise this on the talk page and if nobody can explain why it exists or what the scope is, I will nominate it for deletion.

7) The take home message is that you can't just go on endlessly adding this category to ever species of flowering plant on the planet. A the very least the article needs to note that the plant is a honey producer for inclusion. Mark Marathon (talk) 07:32, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

I did not create the category "Honey Plants", but I am a beekeeper, and was looking for flora to add to the garden at my new home. I have been researching this topic for quite some time, and have been frustrated in finding a comprehensive list. My intention was to have a single location that could be used by other beekeepers as a similar reference.
I see you have a history of edit wars, and have even been blocked for the practice. I have no wish to get into a fight with you, but I will say that rather than discussing your issues with me as a rational person might do, you have decided to undo all of my work without bothering to inquire what was behind my efforts; not very cooperative of you, was it? I want to export the latest version of template:cite web to the Scottish Gaelic Wikipedia/Uicipeid na Gàidhlig. The reason I want to do this is because the version of template:cite web that is currently on gd.wikipedia.org/wiki does not seem to support multiple authors. That is, author1..n, first1..n, and last1..n do not seem to be recognized by the existing template.
I have spoken to one of the site admins, (Sionnach) on gd.wikipedia.org/wiki, who is supportive of this upgrade.

I read in Template:Convert/Transwiki guide that exporting template:convert to another wiki is a non-trivial, multi-step process, so I thought it better to ask about exporting template:cite web before leaping.

First, though, I want to know what is involved with exporting these templates to a different wiki. That is, I need to have a clear set of instructions. Is there a help page that talks about generic transwiki templates or exporting templates to other language wikis?

• There is an older version of template:cite web already on gd.wikipedia.org, so any changes must be backward compatible.
  • I am not sure what version exists on gd.wikipedia.org/wiki.
  • The parameters in the existing template:cite web seem to retain the English parameter names. I.e., I don't believe any translations have been performed on the existing template.
• So far, I have not made any notifications to the group of 36 active users on gd.wikipedia.org/wiki about this potential upgrade.
  • I am not really sure how to go about doing so, or whether it is even necessary.

If this export goes well, there are other templates, including template:cite web, that I want to export to gd.wikipedia.org/wiki.

Template:Cite web on the English Wikipedia is an empty shell that does nothing but invoke a Lua module:

That's all (excepting the documentation). In contrast, the Scottish Gaelic Wikipedia still uses a non-Lua version of the template. So you'll want to import Module:Citation/CS1 (and the various associated modules and documentation pages). I'd suggest you then set up some dummy template such as gd:Teamplaid:Cite web test to invoke the imported module and fiddle around with that until you're sure it's appropriately translated and is backward compatible, for example by copy-pasting a couple of somewhat intricate uses of gd:Teamplaid:Cite web and changing them to "Cite web test" with the same parameters to see if something breaks. Once you're reasonably comfortable the test template works well, swap the code of the live template for an invocation of the Lua module (or ask an admin to do it for you, if the live template is protected).
