Re Ann Bishop[edit]

Firstly congratulations on getting this article up to GA standard. That takes a LOT of work. Well done. I have made a few minor changes to the article since which I hope you wont mind too much.

One minor niggle: In English the semicolon is similar in function to the comma. It is not (as far as I know) supposed to be used to join two (or more) sentences into a single sentence. That instead is the function of a colon or a conjunction.

Example:

'The cat sat on the mat; the dog joined it there.'

This is more properly

'The cat sat on the mat: the dog joined it there.'

An alternative is

'The cat sat on the mat and the dog joined it there.'

As I (currently) understand the use of a semicolon it is used as an alternative to a comma but can also be used to separate subordinate clauses within a sentence. The distinction here is between subordinate clauses which may separated by a semicolon and sentences which can be joined by a colon. The initial letter of the phrase following a semicolon should be in lower case while that following a colon may be either in upper or lower case.

The uses of semicolons and colons may differ considerably between languages and have VERY different uses in programming. It also is quite possible that English is not your first language: if this is the case please accept my apologies.

I'm probably sounding like a 'Grammer Nazi' here which I'm not usually. Lord knows I make enough 'mistooks' myself (typos are my speciality). However the misuse of a semicolon is (sadly) common and IMHO detracts from an article.

Addition:

According to WP the asyndeton is an use of the comma to coordinate separate sentences and is an exception to the usual rule governing the use of commas. Don't you just love WP :)

Canis Minor[edit]

Okay, have listed this at Peer Review as I felt like it was a bit awkward. Looks better now. Do you want to get stuck in and help and be a co-nom or find another one to work on together..either way is ok..Only thing is, I think I probably prefer the simpler layout of the referencing for Canis Minor as it is now as opposed to Leo Minor. Hey Cas, I'd love to get involved in this one! I'll do some work on it today and this weekend - whatever you want for the references is fine, I'll go with whatever you've got. I did notice that there's some Harvard-style and some full citations, I assume you want the full citations? I'll be going back to university this week so I'll be able to get some non-Western mythology sources in there soon. My original rule is that I'll use a harvard style if I have a book with different pages that I am using for different segments of text. Hence the one book with refs to different bits of it, with the full book ref at the bottom. Hmm, looks good, I'll try to start some work on that once I've gotten through this pile of CMi sources. I'm quite serious about doing them all for GA/FA; I burned out on my own but company makes it quite doable! I figure, they're articles in practically every Wikipedia, they're on the vital list...it's a pretty important project. :) Btw - I found several non-Western astronomy sources in my library, plus one more Greek myth that I typed up but my computer ate. Right - we can try and figure next candidate to work on.......Orion (constellation) was one which I figured out a way of detailing out all the stars and things without it being too listy (one source did it by region and hence I've divvied up the Orion_(constellation)#Notable_features section into belt , head, club etc. Still needs a stack of reorganising and I fear the mythology of the main pattern could be...ummm...huge. I did have a hankering for Canis Major (done one dog, may as well do its chum)....Bootes we've had a bit of a go at but it's also huge....it'd be nice to do Pegasus to pair up with Andromeda, or Corona Borealis (maybe get both crowns on the mainpage as a double-header..). Or plough through the zodiac constellations, I'd be up for that. I also buffed Circinus (constellation), Pictor, Pyxis and Phoenix (constellation) for DYK so far - all of these are pretty small so are good starters for FAC just to get us used to them...I find I'm still finding my feet a bit with these articles...but then again they can be a bit boring...while the biggies have lots of cool things in them.....given I live in Oz I am lean a bit to southern hemisphere thingies......oh but there's also Eta Carinae...and Procyon...and Canopus and Rigel.....damn, spoilt for choice....So we can measure communal enthusiasm and take it from there....Casliber (talk · contribs) 14:18, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

StringTheory, it'd be *awesome* to have your help! I'm really keen on doing the other Andromeda myth constellations (Perseus, Cetus, Cassiopeia, and Cepheus). There's a ton of interesting features in all of them and I think it'd be nice to have that little suite done. Wikipedia Ambassadors update[edit]

Hi! You're getting this message because you are or have been a Wikipedia Ambassador. A new term is beginning for the United States and Canada Education Programs, and I wanted to give you an update on some important new information if you're interested in continuing your work this term as a Wikipedia Ambassador.

You may have heard a reference to a transition the education program is going through. This is the last term that the Wikimedia Foundation will directly run the U.S. and Canada programs; beginning in June, a proposed thematic organization is likely to take over organizing the program. You can read more about the proposal here.

Another major change in the program will take effect immediately. Beginning this term, a new MediaWiki education extension will replace all course pages and Ambassador lists. (See Wikipedia:Course pages and Help:Education Program extension for more details.) Included in the extension are online volunteer and campus volunteer user rights, which let you create and edit course pages and sign up as an ambassador for a particular course.

If you would like to continue serving as a Wikipedia Ambassador — even if you do not support a class this term — you must create an ambassador profile. If you're no longer interested in being a Wikipedia Ambassador, you don't need to do anything.

Please do these steps as soon as possible

First, you need the relevant user rights for Online and/or Campus Ambassadors. (If you are an admin, you can grant the rights yourself, for you as well as other ambassadors.) Just post your rights request here, and we'll get you set up as quickly as possible.

Once you've got the ambassador rights, please set up at a Campus and/or Online Ambassador profile. You can do so at:

Going forward, the lists of Ambassadors at Special:CampusAmbassadors and Special:OnlineAmbassadors will be the official roster of who is an active Ambassador. If you would like to be an Ambassador but not ready to serve this term, you can un-check the option in your profile to publicly list it (which will remove your profile from the list).

After that, you can sign on to support courses. The list of courses will be at Special:Courses. (By default, this lists "Current" courses, but you can change the Status filter to "Planned" to see courses for this term that haven't reached their listed start date yet.)

As this is the first term we have used the extension, we know there will be some bugs, and we know the feature set is not as rich as it could be. (A big wave of improvements is already in the pipeline. And if you know MediaWiki and could help with code review, we'd love to have your help!) Please reach out to me (Sage Ross) with any complaints, bug reports, and feature suggestions. The basic features of the extension are documented at Wikipedia:Course pages, and you can see a tutorial for setting up and using them here.

Communication and keeping up to date

In the past, the Education Program has had a pretty fragmented set of communication channels. We're trying to fix that. These are the recommended places to discuss and stay up-to-date on the education program:

  1. The education noticeboard has become the main on-wiki location for discussion of the Education Program. You can post there about broad education program issues as well as issues with individual courses.
  2. The Ambassadors Announce email list is a very low-traffic announcements list of important information all Ambassadors need to be aware of. We encourage all Ambassadors (and other interested Wikipedians) to subscribe to the list; follow the instructions on the link to add your email address.
  3. If you use IRC regularly, or need to try to reach someone immediately, the #wikipedia-en-ambassadors connect IRC channel is the place to find me and fellow Ambassadors.
Ambassador training and resources

We now have an online training for Ambassadors, which is intended to be both an orientation about the Wikipedia Ambassador role for newcomers and the manual for how to do the role. (There are parallel trainings for students and for educators as well.)

Please go through the training if you feel like you need a refresher on how a typical class is supposed to go and where the Ambassadors fit in, or if you want to review and help improve it. If there's something you'd like to see added, or other suggestions you have for it, feel free to edit the training and/or leave feedback. A primer on setting up and using course pages is included in the educators' training.

The Resources page of the training is the main place for Ambassador-related resources. If there's something you think is important as a resource that's not on there, please add it.

Finally, whether or not you work with any classes this term, I encourage you to post entries to the Trophy Case whenever you see excellent work from students or if you have great examples from past semesters. And, as always, let students (and other editors!) know when they do things well; a little WikiLove goes a long way!

Hey! Good to hear from you again! It's actually going pretty well, I got Casliber into writing them as well and he's done a few. I finished Auriga (constellation) and Aries (constellation) before I took a break - burnout and my first semester at university and all that. Now I'm doing Canis Minor with Cas and it's going great! Hah, I know about burnout. Every so often I try some big topics, and although I usually get them done (newest one being 2002 Pacific typhoon season), they're quite gruesome and take a lot out of me! Nice work with those other constellations. I've been busy IRL, which oddly makes me more productive on here. Since I have less time, I spend it more wisely on content building, and on stuff I know I can't just finish in a day. Congrats on the first semester of university, keep that up! Interested in helping ambassador a molecular biology course?[edit]

Hi, Keilana, I had a look at your OA profile, and was wondering if you'd be interested in helping me to OA a section of Molecular Biology for this semester (course officially starts right now). The course pages are here: Section 81 and Section 82. Right now I am the only one for both sections. I think ideally I could recruit three others, for two OAs per section -- then the work would be spread out and pretty easy, I think. It's not a whole lot of work, but the professor is not an experienced Wikipedian, and I do try to help her not only with answering student questions, but also with evaluations -- just checking to make sure the students did the assignments. Meant to let you know that I'm helping a bit with the wikipedia part of a course on encyclopedias (including early European ones in Duke's rare books collection) being given by Mattia Begali in the classics dept. Help with a tedious task?[edit]

Hi, I've just assigned all the students to groups, and created a "groups" table in each of the course pages (here and here. Now I'd like to create each group page, using this one as a template. Do you think you could do that? It's a little tedious because you have to make sure the "81" and "82", and other bits of data, are correct for each one -- 13 pages altogether.

If you need help, could you solicit User:Serendipodous? If you are too busy, let me know and I will do it.

WikiCup 2013 January newsletter[edit]

Signups are now closed; we have our final 127 contestants for this year's competition. 64 contestants will make it to the next round at the end of February, but we're already seeing strong scoring compared to previous years. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) currently leads, with 358 points. At this stage in 2012, the leader (Irish Citizen Army Grapple X (submissions)) had 342 points, while in 2011, the leader had 228 points. We also have a large number of scorers when compared with this stage in previous years. Florida 12george1 (submissions) was the first competitor to score this year, as he was last year, with a detailed good article review. Some other firsts:

Featured articles, portals and topics, as well as good topics, are yet to feature in the competition.

This year, the bonus points system has been reworked, with bonus points on offer for old articles prepared for did you know, and "multiplier" points reworked to become more linear. For details, please see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There have been some teething problems as the bot has worked its way around the new system, but issues should mostly be ironed out- please report any problems to the WikiCup talk page. Here are some participants worthy of note with regards to the bonus points:

  • United States Ed! (submissions) was the first to score bonus points, with Portland-class cruiser, a good article.
  • Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions) has the highest overall bonus points, as well as the highest scoring article, thanks to his work on Enrico Fermi, now a good article. The biography of such a significant figure to the history of science warrants nearly five times the normal score.
  • Chicago HueSatLum (submissions) claimed bonus points for René Vautier and Nicolas de Fer, articles that did not exist on the English Wikipedia at the start of the year; a first for the WikiCup. The articles were eligible for bonus points because of fact they were both covered on a number of other Wikipedias.

Also, a quick mention of British Empire The C of E (submissions), who may well have already written the oddest article of the WikiCup this year: did you know that the Fucking mayor objected to Fucking Hell on the grounds that there was no Fucking brewery? The gauntlet has been thrown down; can anyone beat it?

It struck me that while you had been searching for stuff on Canis Minor and entering cutlural material there, that dumping some Procyon-only material into Procyon would be prudent to avoid re-researching it later on. I am starting to get intrgiued about some of these stars..Procyon just starting tl leave the main sequence etc....and maybe it'd be a good collaboration sooner rather than later. WikiCup 2013 February newsletter[edit]

Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, will progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.

Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:

  1. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), primarily for an array of warship GAs.
  2. London Miyagawa (submissions), primarily for an array of did you knows and good articles, some of which were awarded bonus points.
  3. New South Wales Casliber (submissions), due in no small part to Canis Minor, a featured article awarded a total of 340 points. A joint submission with Alaska Keilana (submissions), this is the highest scoring single article yet submitted in this year's competition.

Other contributors of note include:

Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by British Empire The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...

March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!

From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. Canopus[edit]

I notice you added some detail to the Carina page on mythology associated with the star Canopus. As it was on the star in particular, rather than the constellation as whole, I'm thinking it would be better placed on the Canopus page. What do you think? Hey Moonraker, I think that all of it should definitely also appear in the Canopus article. I'm not sure all of it should be removed from the Carina article, though I'm not adamantly against it, maybe just the major mythologies should be kept (e.g. Arabic, Chinese, Greco-Roman, Aztec, and Maori)? It's a hard balance to strike and I do think the focus of the article should be on the constellation, but I don't want to neglect mentioning Canopus and how it fits in. Hi Keilana, How are you? I am writing to you because I have some questions about the class I am teaching.

-Enrollment: I assume that the next step it will be to have my students enrolled in the class. I see that they need "a token provided by your instructor or one of the ambassadors for your course". What exactly is this "token"?

-Schedule/feedback: If it possible I would like that my students could get feedback from other editors. What strategy do you suggest? When do you should post a first version of their entry? Where should they post it? (sandbox?) Students picked an entry and they collected the bibliography. The last day of class is April 24th. Please let me know and thanks again for you help! Hi Keilana, I'm having a number of problems adapting to all this Wikipedia-speak and Wikipedia processes and really need some help -- most immediately I need help with downloading images. I'm merely trying to download some simple images that are already on Wikipedia Commons (and also on Wikipedia pages) -- and in fact I'm trying to download the images directly from Wikipedia Commons, yet this is taking a ridiculous amount of time and still no luck. I have to say that the Wikipedia instructions are extremely unhelpful. Please help me out. I may be over 50, but I'm also an Ivy League grad and have been a lawyer in high tech fields for over 20 years, so I doubt I'm wrong about Wikipedia's problematic formats and instructions. Sorry to bother you, but this is really frustrating. I'm spending a large sum of money on tuition to learn molecular biology and not to be a Wikipedia expert. Please help. WikiCup 2013 March newsletter[edit]

We are halfway through round two. Pool A sees the strongest competition, with five out of eight of its competitors scoring over 100, and Pool H is lagging, with half of its competitors yet to score. WikiCup veterans lead overall; Pool A's Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (2010's winner) leads overall, with poolmate London Miyagawa (submissions) (a finalist in 2011 and 2012) not far behind. Pool F's New South Wales Casliber (submissions) (a finalist in 2010, 2011 and 2012) is in third. The top two scorers in each pool, as well as the next highest 16 scorers overall, will progress to round three at the end of April.

Today has seen a number of Easter-themed did you knows from WikiCup participants, and March has seen collaboration from contestants with WikiWomen's History Month. It's great to see the WikiCup being used as a locus of collaboration; if you know of any collaborative efforts going on, or want to start anything up, please feel free to use the WikiCup talk page to help find interested editors. As well as fostering collaboration, we're also seeing the Cup encouraging the improvement of high-importance articles through the bonus point system. Highlights from the last month include GAs on physicist Niels Bohr (Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions)), on the European hare (Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions)), on the constellation Circinus (Alaska Keilana (submissions) and New South Wales Casliber (submissions)) and on the Third Epistle of John (Indiana Cerebellum (submissions)). All of these subjects were covered on at least 50 Wikipedias at the beginning of the year and, subsequently, each contribution was awarded at least three times as many points as normal.

Wikipedians who enjoy friendly competition may be interested in participating in April's wikification drive. While wikifying an article is typically not considered "significant work" such that it can be claimed for WikiCup points, such gnomish work is often invaluable in keeping articles in shape, and is typically very helpful for new writers who may not be familiar with formatting norms.

A quick reminder: now, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. Hi Keilana, Thank you so much for giving Mike feedback! really appreciated. The other students should post a first draft by april 3th. They should also upload an illustration by april 10th. The semester will be over on april 24th.

I am trying to figure out the best strategy for the other 12 students. If I understood it correctly the Guild of Copy Editors that you suggested to Mike is an option only when the article is already in the mainspace. However, the other 12 students are not familiar with Wikipedia as Mike. Therefore, ideally I think it would be better to have them to post first on their sandbox and having ambassadors giving them feedback first.But I don't want to take advantage of you and the other ambassador. Diberri's Tools Question[edit]

Hi Keilana, I have to use Diberri's Template Filling tool for citing journal articles using a pubmed ID for my Wikipedia article, XRCC4, for the Molecular Biology class at JHU. I have looked up the instructions and they are not clear. Can you please help explain the step-by-step instructions or provide a link with clearer instructions? Do I begin by choosing "cite journal" under the templates pull down menu? When I choose this method, it lets me fill in all the journal specifics but only creates a named inline reference. If I use Diberri's correctly, would the reference start with DOI as a link? Thank you for your help! A favor -Environmental law articles ready for preliminary review[edit]

Hi Keilana. I see that you're an online ambassador. I'm the Professor for Aaron Frank's environmental law class, and while you're not signed up for my course, I was wondering if you'd be willing to take a look at any or all of the articles my students are working on. One of the aspects of this sort of course is that students understand that they are putting their work out before the wikipedia community for review. In the past, there hasn't been that much activity on their pages as they were working on them. I was hoping that if you were willing, you could take a look. If not, no problem.

The students now have draft articles in mainspace and are starting to review each other's articles, and they could also use a preliminary review by an experienced Wikipedian in this area. WikiCup 2013 April newsletter[edit]

We are a week into Round 3, but it is off to a flying start, with Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions) claiming for the high-importance Portal:Sports and Portal:Geography (which are the first portals ever awarded bonus points in the WikiCup) and Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) claiming for a did you know of sea, the highest scoring individual did you know article ever submitted for the WikiCup. Round 2 saw very impressive scores at close; first place New South Wales Casliber (submissions) and second place Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) both scored over 1000 points; a feat not seen in Round 2 since 2010. This, in part, has been made possible by the change in the bonus points rules, but is also testament to the quality of the competition this year. Pool C and Pool G were most competitive, with three quarters of participants making it to Round 3, while Pool D was the least, with only the top two scorers making it through. The lowest qualifying score was 123, significantly higher than last year's 65, 2011's 41 or even 2010's 100.

The next issue of The Signpost is due to include a brief update on the current WikiCup, comparing it to previous years' competitions. This may be of interest to current WikiCup followers, and may help bring some more new faces into the community. We would also like to note that this round includes an extra competitor to the 32 advertised, who has been added to a random pool. This extra inclusion seems to have been the fairest way to deal with a small mistake made before the beginning of this round, but should not affect the competition in a large way. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact one of the judges.

A rules clarification: content promoted between rounds can be claimed in the round after the break, but not the round before. The case in point is content promoted on 29/30 April, which may be claimed in this round. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. I realize that this article is the subject of an educational assignment but it also is a Wikipedia article where normal talk page guidelines apply. Hence the most straight forward way to discuss improving this article is on the article's talk page and not through private e-mails. I know for sure I have some Polynesian and Chinese stuff hanging around; I think Perseus was featured in one of the few things I could find about Japanese star lore so I'll try to track that down. WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre[edit]

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

Possible Adminship[edit]

Hello! I am andrewrp, and I would like to get active editing Wikipedia again. Currently, as well as in the past, I have done article anti-vandalism work, as well as CFD's using NPwatcher. I have taken a brief hiatus from Wikipedia to work on other projects, but would like to start working again. In addition to my anti-vandalism, I would also like to get more involved on actually editing and improving articles, as I see this issue as a sort of weak point for me. My reasons for desiring administratorship are numerous. In my brief time I have been back here (though I occasionally monitored), there seems to be large backlogs in AIV, Speedy Deletion, as well as page protection. I have a pretty flexible schedule right now that would allow me to clear these backlogs when they become a problem. There also seems to be (not sure if this is the product of when I visit), a larger amount of vandalism then there was a while back. I realize I most likely am not ready for an administratorship yet. When I was getting started, I think I took my important position as a rollbacker and anti-vandalism watcher too lightly. I do feel, as well, I had not taken the time to thoroughly familiarize myself with various Wikipedia policies. As a result, I have gotten myself into various uncomfortable and very bad situations, which I feel could possibly jeopardize my candidacy. I would like to ask you if it would be possible to review my account and provide me with steps I may take as I return to editing that would help me not only become an administrator, but also help the Wikipedia community as a whole. The more the merrier. Please feel free to review the sources used as well. I think in general it is agreed around here the more reliable are the reference sources, rather than the academic journal sources. If you can access the Anchor Bible Dictionary, also, to see if the author is in fact named either at the article itself, or in the list of contributors, that would be one less thing I would have to do later. By the way, considering this matter is also related to something which the arbitration committee is apparently accepting, I don't think any sort of formal or informal mediation is necessarily going to be useful, at least until the end of arbitration. My short-term goal in asking for mediation help is to be able to lay out the content issues in a logical way so that the reviewers at FAR can understand them. Some of them may be rather easily resolved in a calm atmosphere (e.g. adding content about Justin Martyr to the article), and we should try to resolve them. I believe the bigger issues - such as JC's stated desire to reduce this feature article to a stub and start over - are beyond the scope of mediation. You should also be aware that JC is in the process of filing for arbitration, an action which I support. The arbitration committee will want to know if further mediation efforts are likely to be fruitful. That's where your overall "3rd opinion" assessment is going to be especially important. You may also want to read User:John Carter/Guidelines discussion to help make sense of the talk page. High quality sources, Encyclopedia pillar of wikipedia, and Current discussions which might relate to some proposed guidelines are particularly relevant. The point is to get rid of secondary sources and replace them with a limited, pre-approved list of tertiary sources, primarily religious dictionaries and encyclopedias. You clearly did - you have a longstanding history of seemingly jumping to hysterical conclusions about the conduct of others, including In ictu oculi on Dougweller's talk page, where you wanted to take him to ANI for disagreeing with you, and elsewhere. I stand by my first point, because the article seems to be basically the effort of one person with a rather clear and obvious history of POV problems regarding the broad topic of the Ebionites, and particularly the Ebionite Jewish Community/Ebionite Community, which apparently considers itself the “revival” of the original Ebionites, that person being you. You put this version of the article together in userspace, asking and apparently receiving few comments, and then requested, basically, a rubber stamp of your work. Following the usual procedure of developing the article in article space, there is a very good chance that it would have undergone more thorough review which might have resulted in some of the material being contested earlier. It is in fact not unreasonable to think that you sought to avoid any sort of outside review, possibly trying to game the system, by doing so. I repeat my basic point that the article does not seem to in any way reasonably comport to the existing standards of other encyclopedic content to any degree of quality. And by saying it needs rewrite my primary concern was that the structure of the article could, reasonably, be changed to conform to the standards of other existing reference articles, considering there is no clear MOS for religion yet. In that case, following the lead of other reference sources seems reasonable. You have a longstanding history of overreaction, Iggy, and emotionalism. Please make some apparent effort to overcome them and actually deal with the points made, rather than your own irrational conclusions about them, if you can. Thank you. You might wildly speculative and honestly fairly clearly wrong aspersions about my motivations, for a start. I was not referring to reference works per se, but highly regarded ones, which most reasonable people would realize means those which are still highly regarded. The way to etermine that is to check the reviews at the time of publication, and most major reference works get multiple lengthy reviews, and to determine in the relevant academic journals if those opinions are still held in high regard. Maybe if you had edited more than a half dozen pages in your life, you might have a better grasp of such things. Also, as I said on Nishidani's talk page, the purpose is primarily to come up with guidelines regarding "religious" topics which are either minority opinions in the outside world, opinions of minorities in the internal world of religion and belief, and opinions which had been held earlier, but are now not given much acceptance. Those topics are the essence of the six links I added at the bottom of the page. And I am truly curious about your recent concern for "defamation." None of us here are really supposed to be concerned about our reputations. That is an indication, sometimes, of some sort of COI. I remember, oh, someone telling me about the Ebionite webring. The "reputations," if any, of editors here on webrings, or anywhere else, is not considered an acceptable motivation, and never has been. I don't have the time to check up on that, but I would be interested in finding out if someone called Ovadyah or Ignorates was a frequently discussed topic on them, or a particularly frequent contributer there.
Also, to Keilana, the recent proposal was made the way it was because the last previous proposal got derailed by two editors who have very strong religious opinions and are, unlike Ignocrates, rather widely known around wikipedia. It was to prevent the sometimes irrational comments of those editors, and editors like them, that I started it, effectively, by invitation. I do think that there is a good basis for thinking we should have some such guidelines, and if you think it would be useful to maybe discuss the proposal in the Signpost, feel free to do so. A score of 321 was required to survive round 3, further cementing this as the most competitive WikiCup yet; round 3 was survived in 2012 with 243 points, in 2011 with 76 points and in 2010 with 250 points. The change may in part be to do with the fact that more articles are now awarded bonus points, in addition to more competitive play. Reaching the final has, in the past, required 573 points (2012, a 135% increase on the score needed to reach round 4), 150 points (2011, a 97% increase) and 417 points (2010, a 72% increase). This round has seen over a third of participants claiming points for featured articles (with seven users claiming for multiple featured articles) and most users have also gained bonus points. However, the majority of points continue to come from good articles, followed by did you know articles. In this round, every content type was utilised by at least one user, proving that the WikiCup brings together content contributors from all corners of the project.

Round 3 saw a number of contributions of note. Idaho Figureskatingfan (submissions) claimed the first featured topic points in this year's competition for her excellent work on topics related to Maya Angelou, the noted American author and poet. We have also continued to see high-importance articles improved as part of the competition: Wyoming Ealdgyth (submissions) was awarded a thoroughly well-earned 560 points for her featured article Middle Ages and 102 points for her good article Battle of Hastings. Good articles James Chadwick and Stanislaw Ulam netted Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions) 102 and 72 points respectively, while 72 points were awarded to Poland Piotrus (submissions) for each of Władysław Sikorski and Emilia Plater, both recently promoted to good article status. Collaborative efforts between WikiCup participants have continued, with, for example, New South Wales Casliber (submissions) and Canada Sasata (submissions) being awarded 180 points each for their featured article on Boletus luridus.

A rules reminder: content promoted between rounds can be claimed in the round after the break, but not the round before. The case in point is content promoted on the 29/30 June, which may be claimed in this round.
