Googol/Google

Googleplex reference: I have a signed copy of the original paperback Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the word is there on page 127. Briantist 22:22, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

• A search-engine related reference (from the first book, 1979, Chapter 25, page 127) when Lunkwill and Fook are shocked at Deep Thought's self-depreciation: "And are you not," said Fook leaning anxiously forward, "a greater analyst than the Googleplex Star Thinker in the Seventh Galaxy of Light and Ingenuity which can calculate the trajectory of every single dust particle throughout a five-week Dangrabad Beta sand blizzard?" (Note the spelling is the same as Google, not the number googol).

Clearly it is a reference to the fact that Google took their word, perhaps unwittingly, from the book, not the other way round!!

fark.com: ultrafark

why? because it's an on-going joke, and part of the lore. i don't know if you visit the site or not, but ultrafark is always being referenced in the threads. though not very well written, the inclusion of ultrafark is a valid submission. --emerson7 03:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Hello JohnDBuell. I noticed you edited the page Douglas Adams to improve the ambiguous links to Cambridge, England, and accordingly removed the Template:Ambiguous link tags. Re:Page moves

That was entirely my bad, and I apologize. I was doing mass moves from (TV series) to (television series) and I figured that someone would eventually get around to updating the redirects. Geniac, has just brought to my attention that WP:TV-NAME is being disputed, however; and discussion on the talk page looks like it's going to result in (TV series) being the standard ("(television series) was the standard being used on the page when I referred to it"). I'm really sorry for any inconvenience caused (especially since I've already updated about twenty or so redirects to "television") but I'll try and undo the damage ASAP. -ryand 19:02, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Clue for you: rule, essay, guideline, dessert topping, or floor wax; what it is, doesn't matter. What does is the point, that whining about how other bad articles exist is no free pass for the bad articles you want to keep. Whether you or I piss off the Finns is not my concern.

So they issued 27 albums? So what? Did they sell a lot of them? Can you prove it? Did any of them have any impact besides as public-radio giveaways? Is there anything that can be said other than track listings? Any verifiable and reliable sources that tells you anything other than directory-style information? WAHS Saigon

Sorry for error. I go to West, and for the past month they have been billing it as the first high school in IL to perform "Miss Saigon", so thus that is what I knew. So like always (happened with "Cats" too), some other high school beats us to it. IPs and uncivil edit summaries

Hi John. I understand the edit summary your reported to WP:ANI upset you, and please don't take this the wrong way, but I would suggest that you just ignore it. It seems to be a fact of life that some people have nothing better to do that run around the internet being huge jerks, or at least a fact of life on the internet, and there usually isn't anything that can be done to prevent it. The best action is to ignore it. And believe me, I have been a target of numerous childish personal attacks, including some in edit summaries and one page-move vandalism of my userpage. I have found that "revert, block when appropriate, ignore" is the least stressful course of action. Natalie 00:05, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I am a coding Luditte, so I don't know what that would entail in the coding of the MediaWiki software. I believe (but don't know for sure) that the current thinking is that Oversight exists, so there isn't a need to erase edit summaries and not the edits. But dev stuff is like Ancient Greek to me. Combining The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (fictional device) with The Guide (character)

The following headlines contain all the information from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (fictional device), which I didn't find in The Guide (character). Otherwise it's all there (in addition to a lot more). So if this is added, nothing is lost. So please add what you find fitting into the latter article.

Publisher

In the first chapter of the story we get to know that on earth, though, it was never published, and Arthur was the first homo sapiens to ever hear about the guide.

Entries

The second chapter says that it contains many omissions and much that is either apocryphal or at least wildly inaccurate, but otherwise contains almost the same as older, "more pedestrian" work.

Physical properties

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is described as a "micro sub meson electronic component"-format, since it countains so much information, that it would require a space of "several inconveniently large buildings" to carry it. The size of the contents is stated to be "a million" pages, i.e. smaller than wikipedia. However, if the former description would apply, more than a billion pages would be a better estimation. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Thanks! Nice to know one's contribs to wiki are appreciated (as well as being chopped, changed, deleted or argued about). I originally was just going to add a couple of points, but ended up writing a lot more than I intended. I'd forgotten just HOW convoluted the plot was!
