Hi Jim1138,

In May this year a chap called Mike Smith of Tom Smith Plants, with whom we had been working, tried to rip-off our plant as his own. Prior to Chelsea Flower Show he pre-announced the plant.

After numerous discussions with RHS Chelsea they agreed to display the plant with Tom Smith Plants (Mike Smith) as the Exhibitor and Neal and Bob Price of ChilliBobs Ltd as the breeders/growers - see attached photo. (sorry photo not loading??)

We have been trying for a number of moths now to have this cleared up.

I tried to upload a photo showing the correct information as taken at RHS Chelsea and displayed by them but even though it is our photo WiKi will not allow it?

Hopefully I have used this talk page correctly?

Regards Bob

Hi Jim1138,

I forgot.... One of the citations (Evening Post Nottingham) already included in the article shows the correct story and Neal Price as grower/breeder.

Plus I have the RHS Chelsea photo

(edit conflict)@Bobprice: This works. I'm not sure what I can do with a photo. If this was such a big deal, I would expect there to be a retraction in the Telegraph article, or a significant mention of the false claim in a major publication. If you can find that, I would suggest mentioning the false claim in the article rather it vanishing. As I (and others) have no way of verifying Neal Price's claim other than a wp:reliable source, the article needs to reflect what RS states. This is per wp:v and wp:or If you have a good source on this and would like some help, let me know here. Or, wp:ping me to your talk page. I get a lot of complaints and stuff disappears rather rapidly here. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 09:30, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi Jim1138,
Here is an article from the BBC on the 17th May 2017 which cleared up the ownership/breeder question.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-east-wales-39946962
Mike Smith had the plant for 2 months prior to Chelsea to bring it to "Show Condition" his words - and it quite clearly states that the plant was loaned to him by us.
This was done after Mike Smith claimed it was his and I spoke with BBC Wales to give the true story.
Does that help?
Regards
Bob
Bobprice (talk) 09:43, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
@Bobprice: Can't you get a retraction or correction from BBC and Telegraph? That would clear things up. From an impartial reader's standpoint, I would find it confusing at best. This phrase: Mr Smith was loaned the chilli plant by Mr Price about three months ago, who grew it using a new plant food developed with Nottingham Trent University. Did Smith or Price make the discovery using the plant food? Was it a low-Scoville plant and only made into a high-Scoville with the plant food. Whose discovery was it? Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:57, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi Jim1138,

Valid questions. 1. The plant was discovered by my son Neal as part of our growing cycle at the chilli farm in 2016. 2. Because we were doing trials with Nottingham Trent University and 7 of the plants looked different from the batch of 3 1/2 year old seeds of Infinity we were using we had the pods tested in November 2016. 3. The nano iron plant additive, whilst it does increase yields, and scoville a little, was not the reason for us seeing the high results - we know for example yields are increased by up to 69% and that scoville heat can increase by 10% to 20% using nano iron. Trials in 2015 and 2016 showed this. Certainly not the 150% increase seen in these plants if they were Infinity 4. Nottingham Trent University - Dr Gareth Cave - had the pods measured and found them to be between 2.2m and 2.7m scovilles (average 2.48m) 5. We were going to sit on the plant for another season and nurtured the mother plants through to 2017 for a new season 6. In March 2017 the University asked if we could loan the plant to Mike Smith for his RHS Chelsea exhibition, especially as they had measured it at 2.48m average scovilles 7. We agreed and in March 2017 we loaned the plant to Mike Smith to get it "show ready" for Chelsea and it was delivered to his location in Wales 8. The university arranged for dancers at the Tom Smith Plants exhibition stand, and my Son Neal was there from Wednesday 10th May 2017 to help Mike set up the stand and get ready for the show 9. Unfortunately, on Tuesday 9th May Mike Smith decided to announce to the world that he had developed the worlds hottest chilli - this, along with horrendous claims in his announcement was then made public in articles such as the Telegraph article. There is even a video of the claim. 10. NTU distanced themselves from the article as Mike Smith had claimed "Weapons Grade" "if you eat it you will die" etc. 11. Neal threatened to withdraw the plant from Chelsea and after discussions with RHS, they acknowledged the plant as his and the photo shows correctly who the breeder was 12. We went back to the BBC (Wales) and they corrected the original story on the 17th May 2017 and stories such as the one in Nottingham Post were then printed 13. We had no contact back from Telegraph and a number of other agencies that we approached for retraction 14. Mike Smith withdrew Neal's attendance at Chelsea at his exhibition stand during RHS Chelsea show 15. Since then we have been trying to correct the story but people just copy/paste the WiKi article 16. Just as a footnote The Dragons Breath Chilli is our trademarked product and the only valid source for the seeds. Mike Smith has dropped out of the equation for the moment as we are speaking with the RHS and will have a letter from them (sent to him) asking for full retraction of many of the statement he made

The truth is.... This is Neal's Plant... He had it tested..... Mike Smith is a charlatan who tried to rip it off for his own publicity at Chelsea

Regards

Bob Bobprice (talk) 08:35, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

@Bobprice: Is it trademarked or patented? Monsanto regularly patents plants. If Neal Price has the patent on the plant, that should seal the deal. BTW: The Nottingham Post link didn't seem to work. It would be rather difficult to put all the evidence together here. This is getting over my abilities. I will ask someone else to look into this. Please try to keep the sections together. You keep adding a new section; it's best to just add to the tread. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:46, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
@Oshwah: Any suggestions on this? Thanks Jim1138 (talk) 08:48, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi Bobprice - Reading through this talk page discussion, it looks like there's a dispute with the content on the Dragon's Breath (chili pepper) regarding who first discovered or developed it. Am I correct? The article needs to reflect what is stated within the reliable sources that it's citing, and it typically shouldn't be updated or modified in order to state differently unless the content within the sources also change. An important principle that we follow is that Wikipedia content is based on fact, not based on truth. We always write content that is based off third-party reliable sources, since they are what provide information that we see as verifiable and what is most likely to be accurate. This is what the content in our best and most well-written articles will cite and reflect, and in a neutral point of view without bias or opinion. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:38, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

the update to my page entry

Hi Jim1138

I understand you have removed the update I did for the page about me. I also totally understand that it is a encyclopaedia and not social media or personal web page. I was loathe to have to make the corrections myself (i never set the page up in the first place). i have no idea who did.

But I was just trying to correct the very outdated information on there. I am no longer simply an "art historian" nor am I at Goldsmiths any more. I was simply trying to correct the misinformation about me and which people keep using about me!

But now my edit is deleted I guess it will have to stay as erroneous as it has been now for years!

Best Gavin

@Gavinbutt: You should realize that I have know idea who you really are - wp:Wikipedia is anonymous. If you have a source about this, you could add it to talk:Gavin Butt. Or, leave the wp:reliable sources here, and I will do something with them. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 09:33, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello, i have changed it before, and then i added a source, the source is still there. Under 'References', 5: Benedikt Magnusson 460kg deadlift at the Ronnie Coleman Classic 2011. Also, Eddie Hall's 462 is said to be raw (a deadlift where only a weight belt is allowed), but he is using straps, and as far as i can tell, a folded down deadlift suit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w95Yi9HcQ7s Even without the suit it is not considered raw.

You are a senior on Wikipedia. You look like neutral person. A user Uanfala is trying to change Saraiki status from dialect of Punjabi to separate language. Tesa Vilar edit

Hi Jim1138, I recently tried altering the Tesa Vilar article on Wikipedia. The reason is, that the information is not correct, I am Tesa Vilar, and I only competed in road cycling for one year, and did not attend the world championship. I find this article inaccurate, as it is not true. I know you got the information from pro-cycling stats, which you can check, and it shows, that I was only on the team in 2015. I would kindly like this page removed. Please let me know if there is anyone else I should contact.

Thanks a lot!

Origin of Joe Musashi.

Hello. I would like to talk about the origin of Joe Musashi. I do not have sources, but I think it's obvious that Musashi from Japan, he lives in the village of Oboro, which is in Tokyo (Capital City of Japan), especially since there is not reliable sources that he came from America either. 92.37.171.77 (talk) 13:36, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Well, there are sources that do state the US. I don't care one way or the other. You need to provide some source that is more reliable then the existing ones. wp:verifiablity Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 19:51, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Show me the source that he was born in the US please. 92.37.142.217 (talk) 22:43, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Presumably one or both of the Japanese-language citations at the end of the sentence containing "New York". As they are images, Google translate doesn't work. Got an RS stating otherwise? I mean, Joe is such a common Japanese name. Jim1138 (talk) 22:54, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
This text was rewritten from the Japanese user manual of The Super Shinobi (aka The Revenge of Shinobi). Can I use this site as a source? 92.37.142.217 (talk) 23:31, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
From google translate, I see "Three years from then ... .... Now, Musashi was far away from "Shinobi no Sato" where I was born and raised." No idea. Jim1138 (talk) 23:51, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
"Shinobi no Sato" actually is the village of Oboro (Oboro no Sato), it is in Japan. 92.37.142.133 (talk) 00:08, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
Well, it appears to be a better source than what is there now. So, I agree with its use. I assume Musashi was "born" in Japan, immegrated to New York, took on his new family name "Musashi" and an "American" first name of Joe. Might want to untangle that on the Joe Musashi page. Thanks for the discussion. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 01:11, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
No, he was not immegrated anywhere, Musashi and his future bride Naoko still live in the "Shinobi no Sato" (Oboro Village) with Master. Later, Musashi went on "Musha Shugyō" (ascetic martial arts training). When Musashi came back, he found his Master at the last gasp and missing Naoko; this led to the events of The Revenge of Shinobi. 92.37.142.216 (talk) 01:46, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
So, why is his name "Joe"? Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 02:24, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
I will answer you. "Joe" is a non-standard romanization of the Japanese name "丈", more correct romanization: "Jo". You know the Ninja Gaiden series? The father of the protagonist Ryu Hayabusa, also called "Joe" Hayabusa (隼 丈, Hayabusa Jō). 92.37.142.177 (talk) 02:57, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
Totally unfamiliar. The only other I know is 久石 譲. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 03:30, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
Well, thank you for the discussion. See you! 92.37.142.227 (talk) 04:04, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

The Santa Monica Observer, which had previous reported the death of Mildred Goldman (purportedly singer Marcie Blane) pulled that article, invvestigated, and posted this follow-up article.

libelous information under the entry Ingrid Detter and under the House of Frankopan

I have complained three times now about libelous information that some vandals re-insert under the entry of Ingrid Detter and under the entry for the House of Frankopan. This family is not extinct. The titles of members of this family has been confirmed in court cases. We complained on 29th April 2017, having again taken out libelous information. But in October the libelous information was back. We wrote again on 25th Oct to the Head of Wikipedia, corrected the information but within a week the libelous information was back. We will now take action in the courts unless you protect the corrections now inserted. This family was declared 'enemy of the people' under communism but Croatia is still under influence by the Old Guard who seek to eliminate this family by libel.(Saluspopuli (talk) 11:09, 1 November 2017 (UTC)).

My edit for John

I wanted him to see that, he deserved that after raking me through the coals for my well-intentioned edits. The least you can do is repost it without the comment at the end Jessejess (talk) 05:15, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

@Jessejess: Editing on Wikipedia is difficult enough. No need for abuse. Consider asking what to do at the wp:teahouse. Jim1138 (talk) 05:17, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

What he said was abuse. He may not have cussed, but he beat me over the head about my edits, saying they were absolutely pathetic when most people reading the article would have accepted it without problem — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jessejess (talkcontribs) 05:20, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

@Jessejess: Actually, I was the first to remove the photo you added here to Stuart, Florida, with the edit summary "removed exceptionally low quality photo". But you insisted on adding it back. Then User:John from Idegon removed it for the same reason. Then you got upset and started deleting sourced content from the article. An analogy would be you trying out for your school's football team, and not making the team because you were completely out of shape and had no football skills. So you show up for the first practice anyway, and the coach kicks you out, so you throw something onto the field because your feelings are hurt. Of course people are going to be less than sweet to you. Instead of running here and there looking for sympathy because two editors called your crappy picture crappy, why don't you instead borrow a better quality camera, learn how to work it, and walk around Stuart taking some really nice photos of notable locations? I guarantee you'd get a much different response. Also, please take a moment to read MOS:IMAGES and H:GS. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 12:45, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

I reposted it in much better quality actually. At first it was from the lower quality 240 setting on Youtube, then I increased the quality to the highest HD (1080). You don't seem to realize that. I'm not looking for sympathy. I don't even care anymore. I just want to voice the concerns of everyone who has worked hard for doing something (that in all honesty, the vast majority of visitors to this site would accept without question) only to have it be reverted. My camera is NOT bad. Maybe the video (yes, it's stills from VIDEO, maybe that lessens the quality I don't know) is not as good as the camera usually does due to lighting conditions or something, but it's not a bad camera. 8 Megapixels, although outdated now, is not bad. I have plenty of other stuff from my trip (a lot of which probably looks better, even to you), but I'll probably never even try after this experienceJessejess (talk) 13:47, 1 November 2017 (UTC) Also read his latest comment to me on his talk page. That definitely qualifies as abuse. Numerous personal attacks on me and depreciating comments about me because of my photos. And yet he's allowed to continue being an editor here without reprimand or anything? He must've done this to someone else before. Wikipedia has some amazing double standardsJessejess (talk) 14:25, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

File:Riverwalk, Shepards Park, October 2017.jpg
File:Riverwalk, October 2017.jpg
Jim1138, thank you for allowing me to discuss this on your talk page. @Jessejess: The two most recent images you uploaded to Stuart, Florida were posted with this edit. I have also posted them on the right. My suspicion is that until now, you have never in your life had someone tell you that something you have done is of low quality, and this is your response. Reminds me of when I was a kid and played baseball in little league. One day I caught a ride home with a friend and his father. My friend was a very nice kid, but a terrible baseball player. The whole way home in the car, this kid and his dad cussed out everyone for spoiling this kid's game...the blind umpire, the stupid coach, his crappy teammates. You get the picture. Those who volunteer at Wikipedia have high standards, and will politely remove edits which are of low quality, as are both your pictures. Instead of inquiring about what was wrong with your photos, you instead chose to just add them back to the article, and what you received was a very grownup response. Now you are seeking more sympathy by saying "I did a poor job on my first effort, so now I'm just going to quit!" If you are expecting someone here to say "it's ok Jesse, we really liked your pictures! We'll just lower our standards because your self-esteem is what's really important", it's not going to happen. I think I'm done here. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:39, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

You still don't seem to understand that I vastly increased the quality on my youtube video before re-submitting. In any case it's obvious you don't accept any photos of anything shot without an extremely expensive and professional camera, so I'm done here as nothing from my camera will ever be good enough obviously. Honestly, many people like my videos on Youtube and don't complain. I've never gotten a single complaint on my youtube page and I often get a lot of views. I don't have the time or the will or the energy to waste on this site with all the jerks here. You'll find that very few do and you won't have much to pick from on the pages on your site. But I guess that's what you want. Goodbye. Jessejess (talk) 15:21, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

The photos should be posted by a wp:reliable source and not uploaded to Wikipedia. Otherwise there could be concerns that the photos were 'shopped. The two images would allow a conclusion of "some versions had the quote". Be careful about the statement that the US version did not have it. Only add information that is obvious and not based on your conclusion, even if you think it "is obvious". Such conclusions are wp:synthesis and are not allowed on Wikipedia. I tried to edit a page but within seconds, the lies & insults were back again. So I edited this page once more to correct inaccurate facts etc but the lies & insults came back again. Then one of your colleagues sent me a message saying that if I try to correct this again I will be held to be in an 'editing war' and I will be blocked forever. But I am the victim. And now the lies are still there, now moved from 'The House of Frankopan' than another editor has now just renamed 'Frankopan' on Wikipedia. There he says the family is 'extinct' although official court judgments prove otherwise. He also calls the living members of the Frankopan family under he heading 'controversial name claiming'. Is it not the other editor who should be warned and/or blocked? I would be grateful for your advice. All I want is to contribute to the Truth. My corrections are all well documented by official Court documents but the lies refer only to insulting tabloid gossip.(Saluspopuli (talk) 21:01, 1 November 2017 (UTC)).(Saluspopuli (talk) 20:39, 1 November 2017 (UTC)).

If they are living people, I would suggest opening a ticket (start a new section) on wp:Biographies of living persons/noticeboard (BLPN). Read and familiarize yourself with the instructions on the top of the page. See help:talk pages and wp:talk page guidelines You will need to supply wp:evidence in the form of wp:citations to wp:reliable sources (RS). Be careful not to waste people's time (a common problem). If the information you wish to purge is reliably sourced, you might have problems getting it removed. Then, you would need to approach the sources (i.e. newspapers, etc.) as per wp:verifiability (WP:V), Wikipedia only reflects what RS states. Hope this helps. Your disruptive editing at German battleship Bismarck

At 4:34 UTC today you carried out 5 edits, which is not humanly possible. Obviously you were relying your own knowledge to revert my edit and not on the sources plural of swordfish is swordfishes. When the article which cites a source says The Swordfish then attacked; Bismarck began to turn violently as her anti-aircraft batteries engaged the bombers.[103] it means there was 1 (one) Swordfish which fired torpedoes, and not two. Pringles3000 (talk) 04:50, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

@Pringles3000: I'm a super-user. What should it have said? "The swordfishes attached". "Swordfish" is both singular and plural. One swordfish, ten swordfish. Example in article: The aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal with a flight of Swordfish overhead. Jim1138 (talk) 05:06, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, and I am the facetious super-user Sigma 9. Pringles3000 (talk) 05:14, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Revert-warring

Reverting someone ten times as you did here is probably not the most productive method to solving problems like that. I would suggest going to ANI or AIV and leaving it alone. You can clean the mess up after the editor is blocked. Nihlus 04:02, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

@Nihlus: People often don't like personal attacks being dumped on their talk pages. When doing wp:RCP, one gets a lot of abuse. It seems to be exempt per WP:3RRNO. It would be nice not to waste my time on such, but... Jim1138 (talk) 05:06, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
I'm not saying you were edit warring, but revert-warring, which is something I came up with to describe the tendency of people to revert vandals until the vandal gets blocked (sometimes to the tune of 20+ edits). Night time (UTC) is often a prime time for this as blocks aren't as quick. Normally IRC is the best way to get an admin's attention so you can just avoid it all together and move on. Nihlus 05:16, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
@Nihlus: I have gone to IRC a number of times. Strong correlation between unmanned AIV and unmanned IRC. It seems to be good for oversight, but every time I've used it for rapid-fire vandalism when no response was forthcoming on AIV, nothing has happened. BTW: I noticed that Operator873 stopped editing after the talk-page redacting. Jim1138 (talk) 05:59, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
For what it's worth, it has been good lately, especially since you can use the !admin command to ping admins if it is urgent. That's essentially what I did in this case, as I contacted Tony on IRC. Nihlus 06:03, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
@Nihlus: Thanks, I'll definitely will try IRC again. I did use the ping previously. I noticed that Operator873 fled the coup after the redact. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 06:06, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Bhutan-Tourism section

Hey Jim1138, I wanted to ask what is the appropriate method to add new information since, in my point of view, tourism section of Bhutan should also include small info about when is the best time to visit Bhutan. (MB13666 (talk) 07:56, 3 November 2017 (UTC))

Replying on MB13666's talk page. Jim1138 (talk) 08:28, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Rob Moore Wikipedia

Jim,

Are you the person responsible for un-editing of my amendments to my wiki page?

I have been banned for 'vandalism' - what the heck does that even mean? I'm removing harmful and non-related links about me that someone keeps adding to the footer of the page - who is doing this? This has happened 5 times.

And, why any are you banning ME for correcting false information on my page?

This is absurd and would like to lodge a complaint — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.10.85.39 (talk) 20:12, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

The place to do so would be wp:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard (BLPN). Please familiarize yourself with the instructions on BLPN. also, wp:BLP, wp:DUE, help:talk pages, and wp:Talk page guidelines. Please understand that Wikipedia, per wp:Verifiability reflects what wp:Reliable sources (RS) state. If RS states such and you disagree, you should take it up with the RS. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:34, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

I am the author of article titled Neabsco Iron Works . You deleted two edits I did unlogged last night. I get removing the Jefferson quote. With no citation, although it is in the other citations on the page. But removing the Charcoal link to a Wikipedia article, that I don't get. Please let me know your reasoning or correct your corrections Michael Veax (talk) 17:10, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

@Michael Veax: My apology, it looked like someone plopped their bit o' wp:OR into the article. Did not seem to meet wp:V. It would be nice if you would wp:cite the journal, volume, page no, etc. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 22:01, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Jim thank you. I don't have the original cited source material on the Jefferson quote. So I will include a citation for the website I got it from last night. I have to figure out Editing Wikipedia as I add material, so be it. Since you didn't explain removing the Link to the charcoal article. Please explain the removal or correct your removing it, by adding it back please. It should read in part. Charcoal (include linking text) making. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael Veax (talkcontribs) 00:48, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

@Michael Veax: I removed per wp:OVERLINK. It seems a common word to me. If you think it important to the understanding of the article, please feel free to relink.
I think an wp:EL would be fine for the Jefferson citation. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 01:46, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Jim I hate to beat a dead horse, but if you read the article Neabsco Iron Works, you would have learned that charcoal was an integral part of it Iron blasting I even stressed it was an involved process. There for I troubled my self (twice now) to add that over link . Thank you for your help with the Jefferson quote. I note an instance with another article I edited, a number of years ago, that someone in your position, informed me of a problem with my edits, made suggestions, and gave me time for corrections. Which I gladly did. They didn't just delete my work. It's caiied co-operation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael Veax (talkcontribs) 22:00, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
@Michael Veax: Your edits are archived in the wp:page history. I didn't delete them, just removed them; only once. There is an immense amount of unsourced content added to Wikipedia. Unfortunately, I don't have the time nor resources to add a {{citation needed}} tag to each one and monitor them for being sourced at a later date. I removed unsourced 40+ times in the last two days or so. That is likely why WP:BURDEN is in a prominent position.
I have given you a fair amount of my time and advice. If that is not cooperation, I don't know what is.
Would you please format your threads per help:talk pages and remember to sign talk with four tildes? See wp:Signatures. It's difficult to follow when you reply in a different section (i.e. in the "jim" section below which I moved up to this section). Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 22:26, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Regarding the charcoal link, if you think someone would not know what charcoal was and might click on it, then link it. I can see something like lignite being linked, but I suspect charcoal would be rather well-known. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 00:58, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

Hey - I made changes and you reverted back to the old version because I didn't explain why. I have answers for it all - possible to revert back to the version i did if i share? thx — Preceding unsigned comment added by Julez1109 (talkcontribs) 03:40, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

Cleveland Heart (Total Artificial Heart) and LVAD

Jim

Thank you for your help. I'm trying to add this information to the Artificial Heart Wikipedia page

Human Fitting Studies of Cleveland Heart Continuous-Flow Total Artificial Heart. Abstract Implantation of mechanical circulatory support devices is challenging, especially in patients with a small chest cavity. We evaluated how well the Cleveland Heart continuous-flow total artificial heart (CFTAH) fit the anatomy of patients about to receive a heart transplant. A mock pump model of the CFTAH was rapid-prototyped using biocompatible materials. The model was brought to the operative table, and the direction, length, and angulation of the inflow/outflow ports and outflow conduits were evaluated after the recipient's ventricles had been resected. Thoracic cavity measurements were based on preoperative computed tomographic data. The Cleveland Heart CFTAH fit well in all five patients (height, 170 ± 9 cm; weight, 75 ± 24 kg). Body surface area was 1.9 ± 0.3 m (range, 1.6-2.1 m). The required inflow and outflow port orientation of both the left and right housings appeared consistent with the current version of the Cleveland Heart CFTAH implanted in calves. The left outflow conduit remained straight, but the right outflow direction necessitated a 73 ± 22 degree angulation to prevent potential kinking when crossing over the connected left outflow. These data support the fact that our design achieves the proper anatomical relationship of the CFTAH to a patient's native vessels.

ASAIO J. 2017 Sep 25. doi: 10.1097/MAT.0000000000000670. [Epub ahead of print] The Utility of a Wireless Implantable Hemodynamic Monitoring System in Patients Requiring Mechanical Circulatory Support. Feldman DS1, Moazami N, Adamson PB, Vierecke J, Raval N, Shreenivas S, Cabuay BM, Jimenez J, Abraham WT, O'Connell JB, Naka Y. Author information Abstract Proper timing of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation in advanced heart failure patients is not well established and is an area of intense interest. In addition, optimizing LVAD performance after implantation remains difficult and represents a significant clinical need. Implantable hemodynamic monitoring systems may provide physicians with the physiologic information necessary to improve the timing of LVAD implantation as well as LVAD performance when compared with current methods. The CardioMEMS Heart sensor Allows for Monitoirng of Pressures to Improve Outcomes in NYHA Class III heart failure patients (CHAMPION) Trial enrolled 550 previously hospitalized patients with New York Heart Association (NYHA) class III heart failure. All patients were implanted with a pulmonary artery (PA) pressure monitoring system and randomized to a treatment and control groups. In the treatment group, physicians used the hemodynamic information to make heart failure management decisions. This information was not available to physicians for the control group. During an average of 18 month randomized follow-up, 27 patients required LVAD implantation. At the time of PA pressure sensor implantation, patients ultimately requiring advanced therapy had higher PA pressures, lower systemic pressure, and similar cardiac output measurements. Treatment and control patients in the LVAD subgroup had similar clinical profiles at the time of enrollment. There was a trend toward a shorter length of time to LVAD implantation in the treatment group when hemodynamic information was available. After LVAD implantation, most treatment group patients continued to provide physicians with physiologic information from the hemodynamic monitoring system. As expected PA pressures declined significantly post LVAD implant in all patients, but the magnitude of decline was higher in patients with PA pressure monitoring. Implantable hemodynamic monitoring appeared to improve the timing of LVAD implantation as well as optimize LVAD performance when compared with current methods. Further studies are necessary to evaluate these findings in a prospective manner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.132.156.42 (talk) 06:30, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

First, this is way, way too technical. Regarding studies, about all you might add is something like "studies show that it is effective" (or not). Maybe a few technical details that make it unique: 3D-printed, low cost, high-reliability. Etc. The abstract doesn't belong directly on the page. It can be added as a wp:citation. Look at some of the other LVAD mentions, use that as a general guide. Though, some of that appears to be plugging the product. You should ask at the wp:Teahouse for advice on this. Jim thank you for prodding me to do a proper adding of content and sourcing. I studied a bit and it seemed easier than I thought. I missed your comment about my overlink of charcoal. That seemed a bit snarky. I get everyone knows what charcoal is. But, because of it's importance in Iron Blasting, the amount of deforestation for large quantities of wood needed for making charcoal and the intensive process of production, all mentioned in the article and sources. I felt it was an appropriate to overlink the charcoal article. Within the second paragraph, it gets to exactly to the information I wanted to convey to readers of my article. Again thank you for your help and support ions.Michael Veax (talk) 01:41, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Jackson Talk

Hi there, Jim1138, I just want to say, I think I may know why you removed my changes, but I'm not 100% sure, but just so you know my addings were not made up in any way, I just simply looked through other J5 compilation CD booklets which I have, some of which actually state that these were originally recorded during it's album sessions, such as "Listen I'll Tell You How" (taken from "I Want You Back! Unreleased Masters") was recorded in May 1969, but if you have any questions, I would gladly answer them for you, the best as I can92.2.200.26 (talk) 09:42, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

If it is on the CD booklet, I would think that closely associated. I'll restore your edit. Thanks for the discussion. Cheers Jim1138 (talk)

Oh, yeah, also "To Sir, With Love" doesn't actually come from any album, but is available on YouTube, so if you want to get rid of it you can, oh, I almost forgot, thanks for your reply, and like I said in my previous message, if you have any questions, such as when did The Jackson 5 originally record their cover version of "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" or even do a list of their entire Motown sessions, all of which I do have available, so yeah, fill free to leave a question92.2.200.26 (talk) 10:57, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

I have so many questions about your edit. First of all, the page says "promoting belief in pseudoscience". Pseudoscience applies to many topics, such as phrenology, psychic powers, spiritual healing, etc. Does that mean creationists believe in all of the aforementioned topics? If not, either a clarification should be made, or the wording should be altered. Secondly, why do you so insist in this particular wording? My rewording didn't change the factual content of the sentence and didn't alter the meaning in any way - in addition to being less ambiguous and grammatically correct (removal of the superfluous the comma). I would really like to know the reasons.OlJa 22:23, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

@Oldstone James: This sort of conversation is best made on the article's talk page talk:Creationism. When one states they are "using science to solve x" That doesn't mean they are using all science. Saying it's pseudoscience doesn't mean it covers the gamut. Jim1138 (talk) 22:29, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Moving discussion to talk:Creationism. Oldstone James, please discuss on talk:creationism. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 22:31, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Why are you removing my changes? What allows you to do that (apart form contributing to wiki in the past)? Do you have any idea about chemistry or chromatograhpy? Retention factor is simly incorrect. As wrong as it can be. See: https://goldbook.iupac.org/html/R/R05353.html

George Hotz

Hotz talked about how he wrote his first computer program when he was five, while sitting on his father’s lap at their Apple II. By fifth grade, he was building his own video-game console with an electronic-projects kit from Radio Shack. His parents often found household appliances (remote controls, answering machines) gutted. “He always liked learning stuff, and if that was how he did it, great,” his father, George Hotz, Sr., a high-school computer teacher, told me. Hotz, bored with his classes and letting his grades slide, became known at school as an inventive joker who rolled down the hallways in wheeled sneakers and once hacked several classroom computers to simultaneously play Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. His mother, Marie Minichiello, a social worker, told me that although she punished him for his acts of mild disobedience, she always supported him. “I didn’t want school to kill his passion,” she said. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2012/05/07/machine-politics — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.188.98.58 (talk) 08:01, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

Deleting Changes to Aztec society

I'm just curious as to why you reverted all of the changes my colleague and I have made to this article? I agree as a whole the original article is not well referenced, but the additions we have made have citations. Also, the original structure/organization of the article was not great and seemed like there was no rhyme or reason to it, which is another change my colleague and I made to help make the article flow better. If you could I would like a better explanation than my changes were "unreferenced" or a specific example of where our additions were not cited properly. Thanks. Tdbdh4 (talk) 00:09, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

@Tdbdh4: Wikipedia takes wp:verifiability quite seriously. Don't add content such as this, and add {{citation needed}} tags. It needs to be cited when you add the content. Some uncited parts doesn't make it a free-for-all. Jim1138 (talk) 00:15, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi Jim1138,

I recently tried adding in a new section for Notable People to the Intermittent Fasting page and received a message that it was removed because it violated the external links policy. I was trying to add citations/sources related to each individual. Should I just list the individuals but remove sources to the style of fasting they practice?

I am new to editing so I appreciate your guidance and help on this. Thanks!

Hello Jim You deleted my updates on the page Australian National Flag Association. I did have some trouble updating the references ... but they are out of date - eg if you click on 2,3,4 they take you to the same page which does not contain the content referred to. Most of the historical reference material and other information that was contained at www.australianflag.org.au is now contained at www.australianflag.net.au . Further, the statement that "In 2003 the Australian Capital Territory branch of the ANFA was renamed as the Australian Flag Society.[6][7][8] " is inaccurate. None of the cited references support the statement, and in fact the Australian Flag Society is a completely different group to the Australian National Flag Association. Zac Miles is no longer national spokesman; Allan Pidgeon AM chairs the national association - refer citation from Government House http://gg.gov.au/sites/default/files/files/honours/ad/ad2017/slkh83xzcb/AM%20Final%20Media%20Notes%20(M-Z).pdf: "Service includes: President, Australian National Flag Association of Queensland Inc., since 2000 and Foundation Member, since 1983. @Flag3901: I can understand the issue. Please, per wp:verifiability, cite a source for your updates? Without them, I, nor anyone else can easily determine their accuracy. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 08:06, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
