.950 JDJ Cartridge page

Hi Jeff, I know this is probably not your concern, but I am new to Wiki and don't know what to do about it or who I should contact and I am not sure of the correct information, so I do not want to try to edit it myself. Is there an easy way to mark a section as questionable or conflicting data?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.950_JDJ

Basically, the .950JDJ page has conflicting information in the Cartridge section and the ballistics section. The Cartridge section lists a much heavier projectile (3600g) than the ballistics section (2400g).

I also wanted to thank you for your work on Wikipedia.

You can just delete this if you wish. Regards, Scott Johnson. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sjjohnso (talkcontribs) 17:34, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

@Sjjohnso: The refs (such as they are) conflict on the matter. What is your response to the concerns in this edit?   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 18:44, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

950 JDJ page

Hi, when I said you can delete this, I meant you could delete my message and pretend that you never saw it. I have a feeling I am just creating problems for you. I am disabled and pretty sick, so I am having a real hard time figuring out what is the proper thing to do with this wiki page.

Looking at the proposed edit you sent me, I tend to agree that we should just delete the whole page. That would be the easiest by far. The following (in hopefully bold) is my take on what could be listed on the page with some hope that it is accurate. I deleted a lot and inserted some editing below. I am sure someone would argue about what I have listed below. The fact remains that only 3 of the rifles were ever built. There is no factory ammo available. Everything, including the projectile is custom made and therefore we don't know the actual specifications or actual ballistics for any of it. It is a rifle that exists so that a select few can brag that they fired a .950 JDJ.

This is the most I would leave:

The .950 JDJ is a powerful, extremely large caliber rifle cartridge developed by American gunsmith and weapon designer J. D. Jones of SSK Industries.

Cartridge The .950 JDJ is among the world's most powerful, and largest caliber rifle cartridges.[citation needed] Loaded .950 JDJ cartridges are approximately the length of an empty .50 BMG casing (i.e., 4"), and are based on a 20 x 102 mm Vulcan case shortened and necked up to accept the .950" bullet. Projectiles are custom-machined and the cartridge is hand loaded. Factory ammunition is no longer available.

Rifles As its name implies, rifles chambered for the cartridge have a bore diameter of 0.950", which would normally classify them as Destructive Devices under the 1968 (1934) National Firearms Act. However, SSK sought and received a "Sporting Use Exception" to de-regulate the rifles, meaning they can be purchased like any other Title I rifle by a person over age 18 with no felonious criminal record.[citation needed] The rifles themselves, of which only 3 have been made, use McMillan stocks and extraordinarily thick Krieger barrels bearing a large muzzle brake. Overall, depending on options, the rifles weigh from approximately 50 to 110 pounds (23 to 50 kg) and are therefore only practical for shooting from a bench rest. Despite the weight, recoil is very significant. There are YouTube videos of people firing the 50 pound (23kg) version of the rifle and the recoil can be seen to be brutal.

Ballistics There is no ballistic data that can be documented.

Sunday July 30: Action=History Wiki-Hackathon @ Ace Hotel

On the last Sunday of every month, the Boardroom at Ace Hotel New York hosts Action Equals History — a unique opportunity for New Yorkers to learn hands-on in a technology training/workshop session about the mechanics, practices and benefits of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects. This is an opportunity for all to gather, share and work collectively towards a more robust account of history.

For this month, we'll focus on Wikipedia casual editing, ways to use and develop Wikidata, building better edit-a-thon tools for a variety of different thematic campaigns, and user-testing them with the community. Towards a goal of advancing these tools for wider use with diverse local groups.

Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Pharos (talk) 14:21, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
